  • Unable to reserve a job with beanstalkd

    - by Brian Hogg
I have tried on two different servers to get beanstalkd up and running and do a couple tests (locally on MacOSX compiled from source, and on a CentOS server installed with yum) I can get the server running either with sudo beanstalkd -d -p 11300 or sudo beanstalkd -p 11300 & I then tried using the php lib and it just froze. Connecting directly: telnet localhost 11300 I do the following to mimic the PHP test script: use foo USING foo put 0 0 120 5 hello INSERTED 1 reserve-with-timeout 0 TIMED_OUT If I just run reserve It's stuck indefinitely. Any ideas?

  • Stats/Monitor/Inspector for beanstalkd

    - by Tim Lytle
Does anyone know of an app that can monitor a beanstalkd queue? I'm looking for something that shows stats on tubes and jobs, and allows you to inspect the details. I'm not really picky about language/platform, just want to know if there's something out there before I write my own.

  • Stale connection with Pheanstalk

    - by token47
I'm using beanstalkd to offload some work to other machines. The setup is a bit unusual, the server is on the internet (public ip) but the consumers are behind adsl lines on some peoples homes. So there is a linux server as client going out through a dynamic ip and connecting to the server to get a job. It's all PHP and I'm using pheanstalk library. Everything runs smoothly for some time, but then the adsl changes the IP (every 24h hours the provider forces a disconnect-reconnect) the client just hangs, never to go out of "reserve". I thought that putting a timeout on the reserve would help it, but it didn't. As it seems, the client issues a command and blocks, it never checks the timeout. It just issues a reserve-with-timeout (instead of a simple reserve) and it is the servers responsibility to return a TIME_OUT as the timeout occurs. The problem is, the connection is broken (but the TCP/IP doesn't know about that yet until any of the sides try to talk to the other side) and if the client blocked reading, it will never return. The library seems to have support for some kind of timeouts locally (for example when trying to connect to server), but it does not seem to contemplate this scenario. How could I detect the stale connection and force a reconnect? Is there some kind of keepalive on the protocol (and on the pheanstalk itself)? Thanks!

  • What do I use when a cron job isn't enough? (php)

    - by mike
I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to running a pretty hefty PHP task thousands of times a day. It needs to make an IMAP connection to Gmail, loop over the emails, save this info to the database and save images locally. Running this task every so often using a cron isn't that big of a deal, but I need to run it every minute and I know eventually the crons will start running on top of each other and cause memory issues. What is the next step up when you need to efficiently run a task multiple times a minute? I've been reading about beanstalk & pheanstalk and I'm not entirely sure if that will do what I need. Thoughts???

I tried installing beanstalkd with sudo apt-get install beanstalkd (also with -f option) and I get the following error: Reading package lists... • Running django custom management commands with supervisord

    - by mfsaint
I'd like to use supervisord to run some commands for my Django project but I keep getting the following error: supervisor.log: 2012-05-18 17:52:15,784 INFO spawnerr: can't find command 'source' If I remove the "source" command, the log shows the same error: can't find command 'python'. supervisord.conf excerpt: [program:django] directory=/home/mf/projects/djangopj/ command=beanstalkd -l 127.0.0.1 -p 11300 command=source /home/mf/virtualenvs/env/bin/activate command=python manage.py command1 command=python manage.py command2 user=mf autostart=true autorestart=true I tried removing the directory and adding the absolute path to the commands but I kept getting the same error. I run supervisord with the following command: supervisord -c supervisord.conf -l supervisor.log

  • Best Work Queue service for distributed clusters

    - by onewheelgood
Hi there. I require a simple work queue type system for asynchronous task management. I have looked at both beanstalkd and gearman. However, both these seem to assume that the client and the queue server are on the same network, and therefore that there will always be a reliable network between them. I need one that can support the client and server being in different places in the world, and be able to manage temporary loss of network connection between clusters. Ideally, this would work in such a way where I post a job to a local proxy that attempts to send it to the main queue server. If there is no network connection, it would try again later, however it would not lose the job or delay the client. Any recommendations?

  • gevent install on x86_64 fails: "undefined symbol: evhttp_accept_socket"

    - by digitala
I'm trying to install gevent on a fresh EC2 CentOS 5.3 64-bit system. Since the libevent version available in yum was too old for another package (beanstalkd) I compiled/installed libevent-1.4.13-stable manually using the following command: ./configure --prefix=/usr && make && make install This is the output from installing gevent: [gevent-0.12.2]# python setup.py build --libevent /usr/lib Using libevent 1.4.13-stable: libevent.so running build running build_py running build_ext Linking /usr/src/gevent-0.12.2/build/lib.linux-x86_64-2.6/gevent/core.so to /usr/src/gevent-0.12.2/gevent/core.so [gevent-0.12.2]# cd /path/to/my/project [project]# python myscript.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "myscript.py", line 9, in <module> from gevent.wsgi import WSGIServer as GeventServer File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/gevent/__init__.py", line 32, in <module> from gevent.core import reinit ImportError: /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/gevent/core.so: undefined symbol: evhttp_accept_socket I've followed exactly the same steps on a local VirtualBox instance (32-bit) and I'm not seeing any errors. How would I fix this?

  • MMS2R and Multiple Images Rails

    - by Maletor
Here's my code: require 'mms2r' class IncomingMailHandler < ActionMailer::Base ## # Receives email(s) from MMS-Email or regular email and # uploads that content the user's photos. # TODO: Use beanstalkd for background queueing and processing. def receive(email) begin mms = MMS2R::Media.new(email) ## # Ok to find user by email as long as activate upon registration. # Remember to make UI option that users can opt out of registration # and either not send emails or send them to a [email protected] # type address. ## # Remember to get SpamAssasin if (@user = User.find_by_email(email.from) && email.has_attachments?) mms.media.each do |key, value| if key.include?('image') value.each do |file| @user.photos.push Photo.create!(:uploaded_data => File.open(file), :title => email.subject.empty? ? "Untitled" : email.subject) end end end end ensure mms.purge end end end and here's my error: /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.4/lib/commands/runner.rb:48: undefined method photos' for true:TrueClass (NoMethodError) from /usr/home/xxx/app/models/incoming_mail_handler.rb:23:in each' from /usr/home/xxx/app/models/incoming_mail_handler.rb:23:in receive' from /usr/home/xxx/app/models/incoming_mail_handler.rb:21:in each' from /usr/home/xxx/app/models/incoming_mail_handler.rb:21:in receive' from /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/actionmailer-2.3.4/lib/action_mailer/base.rb:419:in receive' from (eval):1 from /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in eval' from /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.4/lib/commands/runner.rb:48 from /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in gem_original_require' from /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' from /home/xxx/script/runner:3 I sent an email to the server with two image attachments.
