  • Programmatically adding a site to the Allowed Sites of the IE Pop-up Blocker (VB.NET)

    A few more details. I need to programmatically (Winforms, VB.NET) check if a site is in the Allowed Sites list of the IE Pop-Up Blocker (IE 7 and 8 and Windows XP, Vista and 7) and if not, add it. The application is fully trusted and I don't want to disable the Pop-Up blocker entirely. To clarify some things, this is for a web-automation application with several users across 3 countries. I want to avoid receiving tons of emails and explaining each time how to add the website to the Allowed Sites manually. Also, some of the users have Google Toolbar installed, which also has a Popup Blocker creating trouble to my app. Can this also be done programmatically?

    On a old machine (512 MB RAM) I am currently running ubuntu jaunty and firefox 3.0.15. I tried the ad blocker addon add block plus but it eats lots of RAM (300 MB). Is high memory load of this add-on a bug, which is fixed in a newer version or just normal? If so, why is the memory usage so high? Is there another ad blocker add-on for firefox or another browser- add-on combination for linux (ubuntu jaunty) which uses significant less RAM?

    Hi serverfault universe, I work for a medium sized (roughly 200 user) company. We are attempting to intagrate our new Cisco Spam Video Blocker (ironport) device into our network so that it acts as an incoming filter then passes it off to our Lotus domino mail server. And also vise versa. The way our network is setup currently has an mx record pointing to our Domino mail SMTP incoming server which is currently setup to be an inbound gateway and filter (using symantec domino mail software). We want to replace the inbound gateway with the ironport. Our company has also invested in a pool of external IP addresses which I believe has been currently assigned to our web, email, servers. What would the proper course of action be to successfully integrate the device be? Mx record change? Replace the domino gateway completely with the ironport? We attempted to set the ironport device to the external IP of what our mx record is pointing to without much success. Any help on proper setup would be greatly appreciated.

  • Browser popup blocker blocking jasper reports generated from flex

    Hi all, I have a flex application that uses navigateToURL() to call a servlet. The servlet in turn generates a JasperReport and then uses exportReport() to show the report in a new browser tab. Now, my problem is this. I want to generate multiple reports at once, each opening in its own tab. It all works fine except that in Firefox the built in browser pop-up blocker sees every new tab that is opened after the first report tab as a pop-up. It blocks this and is giving me endless headaches. I also tried this in IE8, Safari, Chrome and Opera with no problems. Any help as to how I can get past the Firefox pop-up blocker would be much appreciated. Pieter

  • Chrome pop-up blocker fail?

    I have this problem since just a few days. I've been a heavy Chrome user for several years, but it never happened before: Sometimes absolutely uncalled for pop-ups appear, when I click something absolutely legit. It seems to happen at a very precise rate of two pop-ups every hour or so. The pop-ups are not very varied, it seems to be a fixed set of some 4-5 ads. At first I thought I caught some malware, but after a full scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, I found absolutely nothing. In addition the problem exists only with Chrome. When I use Firefox, this never ever happens. What is even more puzzling is that it happens on both of my rigs and started on the same day. I have a removable storage that I dock to both of them and access one machine from the other via RDP, but still... It seems this is a problem that others face too. See this Google forum and here. Could it be that the latest Chrome build is just acting up? (Just in case it matters: I run Chrome version 24.0.1312.57 m on Win 7.)

  • MsSql Server high Resource Waits and Head Blocker

    Hi I have a MS SQL Server 2008 Standard installation running a database for a webshop. The current size of the database is 2.5 GB. Running on Windows 2008 Standard. Dual Intel Xeon X5355 @ 2.00 GHz. 4 GB RAM. When I open the Activity Monitor, I see that I have a Wait Time (ms/sec) of 5000 in the "Other" category. In the Processes list, all connections from the webshop, the Head Blocker value is 1. I see every day that when I try to access the website, it can take 20-30 secs before it even starts to "work". I know that it is not network latency. (I have a 301 redirect from the same server that is executed instantly). When the first request has been served, it seems as if it's not a sleep anymore and every subsequent request is served instantly with the speed of light. The problem was worse two weeks ago, until I changed every query to include WITH (NOLOCK). But I still experience the problem, and the Wait times in the Activity Monitor is about the same. The largest table (Images) has 32764 rows (448576 KB). Some tables exceed 300000 rows, thought they're much smaller in size than the Images table. I have the default clustered index for every primary key column, only. Any ideas?

Here is 91.205.43.252 (91.205.43.251 - 91.205.43.253) used by back3.stopspamers.com (back2.stopspamers.com, back1.stopspamers.com) in geo-cluster on dedicated servers in Switzerland. The queries: http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=91.205.43.251 http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=91.205.43.252 http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=91.205.43.253 tell that: 91.205.43.251 - 91.205.43.253 are all listed in the SBL80808 blacklist And SBL80808 blacklist tells: "Ref: SBL80808 91.205.40.0/22 is listed on the Spamhaus Block List (SBL) 01-Apr-2010 05:52 GMT | SR04 Spamming and now seems this place is involved in other fraud" 91.205.43.251-91.205.43.253 are not listed amongst criminal ip-addresses individually but there is no way to remove it individually from black listing. How to remove this individual (91.205.43.251-91.205.43.253) addresses from SPAMHAUS blacklist? And why the heck SPAMHAUS is blacklisting spam-stopping service? This is only one example of a bunch. This ip-addresses 91.205.43.251 - 91.205.43.253 are not blacklisted individually, they are blacklisted through its supernet 91.205.40.0/22. Update2: http://www.spamhaus.org/sbl/sbl.lasso?query=SBL80808#removal tells: "To have record SBL80808 (91.205.40.0/22) removed from the SBL, the Abuse/Security representative of RIPE (or the Internet Service Provider responsible for supplying connectivity to 91.205.40.0/22) needs to contact the SBL Team" There are dozens of "abusers" in that blacklist SBL80808. The company using that dedicated server is not an ISP or RIPE representative to treat these issues. Even if to treat it, it is just a matter of pressing "Report spam" on internet to be again blacklisted, this is fruitless approach.   • Adding AJAX call to function triggered popup blocker

    Hi folks, I have a client who wants to open variously sized images in a centered popup. I tried to get them to use FancyBox but they don't want interstitial presentation, so... I initially was opening a generic popup which resized and centered onload based on image size but they don't like the shift so I added a PHP script to echo the sizes and used jQuery to fetch the size info to feed into the pop up call. But it appears the delay this causes is setting off all popup blockers.     Recently I, along with the rest of the world, have seen a significant increase in what appears to be scraping from Amazon AWS-related sources. So simply put, I blocked all incoming requests from the Amazon cloud for our hosted application. I know that some good services/bots are now hosted on the cloud, and I'm wondering if certain IP addresses should be allowed, as they may gather data that would in the end benefit our site's SEO rankings? -- UPDATE -- I added a feature to block requests from the following hosts: Amazon Softlayer ServerDeals GigAvenue Since then, I have seen my network traffic decrease (monitored by network out bytes). Average operation is around 10,000,000 bytes. You can see where last week I was not blocking, then started blocking. I've since removed the blocks and will see what the outcome is.

That web service is only available without ads when you pay for a premium account. Would it be illegal when I block this ads in my Desktop Application? When you use this web service over the browser, every user has the chance to block ads with adblocker addons. So why not block this stuff in my Desktop Application?

  • Bayesian content filter for vbulletin [on hold]

    I've been tasked with coming up with a tool to automatically flag some posts for moderator attention on a large vbulletin forum. It's not spam per se, but the task has a lot in common with the sort of handling that might be done by a spam protection plugin (a mod in vbulletin speak). There's only so much I can say, but the task does not involve bad users, so much as particular kinds of posts which the moderators need to be aware of. Filtering out user registrations and links is therefore not useful, and we are talking about posts by real human users. What I'm looking for is an existing bayesian classification plugin, or something that I can study to get an understanding of how to do the vbulletin side of the interface in order to build such a thing. Ie I'd need ways for moderators to list flagged posts, and to correct the classification of posts which have been mis-classified. Ideally I want a 3 way split with an "unsure" category in order to reduce what has to be reviewed to find any mis-classifications. Any pointers? I've searched around a bit, and so far what I've found has been more or less entirely targetted at intervening in sign-ups (mostly using stopforumspam), captchas, and use of external services like akismet which are spam specific.
