  • Garbled UI with vnc, chicken-of-the-vnc, gridengine, qmon

    - by bmargulies
Ubuntu 11.04 gridengine version 6.2u5-1ubuntu1 I start a desktop with the vncserver command. My ~/.vnc/xstartup ends with 'gnome-session'. I connect to it using chicken-of-the-VNC on my MacOSX Lion system. I run 'qmon'. Much of qmon works, but several critical tasks show hopelessly garbled grid layouts. I have filed a bug report, but I suspect that there is something I am missing that would render (ahem) them legible.

  • Building Android app from ant via Hudson - chicken and egg problem

    - by Eno
When using an Android-generated ant build file, the file references your SDK installation via an sdk.dir property inside the local.properties files which is generated by "android update project -p .". The comments in build.xml suggest that local.properties should NOT be checked into version control. BUT, when you run your build from Hudson, it does a fresh checkout of your code from version control, hence local.properties does not exist and subsequently the build fails without sdk.dir being set. So its kind of chicken and egg problem. As a workaround I have checked local.properties into version control for now (nobody else will use it) but I was curious as to how other developers had tackled this problem ?

  • PList Chicken/Egg Scenario

    - by David van Dugteren
Hi, I want to read/write to cache.plist If I want to read an existing premade plist file stored in the resources folder I can go: path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] bundlePath]; NSString *finalPath = [path stringByAppendingPathWithComponent@"cache.plist"]; NSMutableDictionary *root = ... But then I wish to read it from the iPhone. Can't, the Resources folder is only readable. So I need to use: NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomain,YES So how can I have my plist file preinstalled to the Document Directory location? Thus meaning I don't have to mess around with untidy code copying the plist file over at startup. (Unless that's the only way).

  • Faith and Godaddy [closed]

    - by yuval
Let's remove the capitalizations from the name GoDaddy - the hosting company: godaddy. Now let's look at the spacing a little differently: god addy, and capitalize: God Addy: God Addy: The address of God Did anybody notice this? How many negative votes will this question get? How long until someone closes the discussion on this question? All of this and more... NOW! Someone favorited this! woo! In addition to my serious and intelligent previous question: Who came first, the chicken or the egg?

  • How to debug problems in Linux kernel module `init()`?

    - by Kimvais
I am using remote (k)gdb to debug a problem in a module that causes a panic when loaded e.g. when init() is called. The stack trace just shows that do_one_initcall(mod->init) causes the crash. In order to get the symbol file loaded in the gdb, I need to get the address of the module text section, and to get that I need to get the module loaded. Because the insmod in busybox (1.16.1) doesn't support -m so I'm stuck to grep modulename /proc/modules + adding the offset from nm to figure out the address. So I'm facing a sort a of a chicken and an egg problem here - to be able to debug the module loading, I need to get the module loaded - but in order to get the module loaded, I need to debug the problem... So I am currently thinking about two options - is there a way to get the address information either: by printk() in the module init code by printk() somewhere in the kernel code all this prior to calling the mod->init() - so I could place a breakpoint there, load the symbol file, hit c and see it crash and burn...

  • SVN Workflow - Chicken Before the Egg - Before merging V1 with V2, I need code from V1 to work on V2

    - by Jake
Hi, Our distributed team (3 internal devs and 3+ external devs) use SVN to manage our codebase for a web site. We have a branch for each minor version (4.1.0, 4.1.1, 4.1.2, etc...). We have a trunk which we merge each version into when we do a release and publish to our site. An example of the problem we are having is thus: A new feature is added, lets call it "Ability to Create A Project" to 4.1.1. Another feature which depends on the one in 4.1.1 is scheduled to go in 4.1.2, called "Ability to Add Tasks to Projects". So, on Monday, we say 4.1.1 is 'closed' and needs to be tested. Our remote developers usually will start working on features/tickets for 4.1.2 at this point. Throughout the week we will test 4.1.1 and fix any bugs and commit them back to 4.1.1. Then, on Friday or so, we will tag 4.1.1, merge it with trunk, and finally, merge it with 4.1.2. But, for the 4-5 days we are testing, 4.1.2 doesn't have the code from 4.1.1 that some of the new features for 4.1.2 depend on. So a dev who is adding the "Ability to Add Tasks To Projects" feature, doesn't have the "Ability to Create a Project" feature to build upon, and has to do some file copy shenanigans to be able to keep working on it. What could/should we do to smooth out this process? P.S. Apologies if this question has been asked before - I did search but couldn't find what I'm looking for.

  • Chicken and egg problem (restore database) when trying to write unit test against SQl Server 2008.

    - by Hamish Grubijan
Ok, they are not unit tests but end-to-end tests. The setup is somewhat involved. Unit tests will use C#, ODBC connection. Every unit tests will try to clean up after itself, but every 20 tests or so (once per C# class) we would need to do a full database restore. I do not think I can do it over an ODBC connection, according to this document: http://www.sql-server-performance.com/articles/dba/Obtain_Exclusive_Access_to_Restore_SQL_Server_p1.aspx Msg 6104, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot use KILL to kill your own process. However, I would like to, so that 199 tests do not go amok because of a bad clean-up. Is there another way? Perhaps I can open a different "connection" such as use COM automation or something of that sort, and then kill all database connections from there? If so, how can I do that? Also, will the clients be able to re-connect automatically after a restore, or would I have to dismantle everything once every 20 tests or so? If you find this question confusing, please let me know what your questions are. Thanks!

  • How to generate DELETE statements in PL/SQL, based on the tables FK relations?

    - by The chicken in the kitchen
Is it possible via script/tool to generate authomatically many delete statements based on the tables fk relations, using Oracle PL/SQL? In example: I have the table: CHICKEN (CHICKEN_CODE NUMBER) and there are 30 tables with fk references to its CHICKEN_CODE that I need to delete; there are also other 150 tables foreign-key-linked to that 30 tables that I need to delete first. Is there some tool/script PL/SQL that I can run in order to generate all the necessary delete statements based on the FK relations for me? (by the way, I know about cascade delete on the relations, but please pay attention: I CAN'T USE IT IN MY PRODUCTION DATABASE, because it's dangerous!) I'm using Oracle DataBase 10G R2. • SR Activity Summaries Via Direct Email? You Bet!

    - by PCat
Courtesy of Ken Walker. I’m a “bottom line” kind of guy.  My friends and co-workers will tell you that I’m a “Direct Communicator” when it comes to work or my social life.  For example, if I were to come up with a fantastic new recipe for a low-fat pan fried chicken, I’d Tweet, email, or find a way to blast the recipe directly to you so that you could enjoy it immediately.  My friends would see the subject, “Awesome New Fried Chicken” and they’d click and see the recipe there before them.Others are “Indirect Communicators.”  My friend Joel is like this.  He would post the recipe in his blog, and then Tweet or email a link back to his blog with a subject, “Fried Chicken.”  Then Joel would sit back and expect his friends to read the email, AND click the link to his blog, and then read the recipe.  As a fan of the “Direct” method, I wish there was a way for me to “Opt-in” for immediate updates from Joel so I could see the recipe without having to click over to his blog to search for it.The same is true for MOS.  If you’ve ever opened a Service Request through My Oracle Support (MOS), you know that most of the communication between you and the Oracle Support Engineer with respect to the issue in the SR, is done via email.  Which type of email would you rather receive in your email account? Example1:Your SR has been updated.  Click HERE to see the update. Or Example2:Your SR has been updated.  Here is the update:  “Hi John, Oracle Development has completed the patch we’ve been waiting for!  Here’s a direct “LINK” to the patch that should resolve your issue.  Please download and install the patch via the instructions (included with the link) and let me know if it does, in fact, resolve your issue!”Example2 is available to you!  All you need to do is to “Opt-In” for the direct email updates.  The default is for the indirect update as seen in Example1.  To turn on “Service Request Details in Email” simply follow these instructions (aided by the screenshot below):1.    Log into MOS, and click on your name in the upper right corner.  Select “My Account.”2.    Make sure “My Account” is highlighted in bold on the left.3.    Turn ON, “Service Request Details in Email” That’s it!  You will now receive the SR Updates, directly in your email account without having to log into MOS, click the SR, scroll down to the updates, etc.  That’s better than Fried Chicken!  (Well; almost better....).

  • Solving algorithm for a simple problem

    - by maolo
I'm searching for an algorithm (should be rather simple for you guys) that does nothing but solve the chicken or the egg problem. I need to implement this in C++. What I've got so far is: enum ChickenOrEgg { Chicken, Egg }; ChickenOrEgg WhatWasFirst( ) { ChickenOrEgg ret; // magic happens here return ret; } // testing #include <iostream> using namespace std; if ( WhatWasFirst( ) == Chicken ) { cout << "The chicken was first."; } else { cout << "The egg was first."; } cout << endl; Question: How could the pseudocode for the solving function look? Notes: This is not a joke, not even a bad one. Before you close this, think of why this isn't a perfectly valid question according to the SO rules. If someone here can actually implement an algorithm solving the problem he gets $500 in cookies from me (that's a hell lot of cookies!). Please don't tell me that this is my homework, what teacher would ever give his students homework like that?

  • Set preferred language in Chrome and other Google services

    - by Super Chicken
Whenever I'm abroad and access Google's search (via Chrome browser, on my own laptop) or other Google services, they are presented to me in the local language. How can I get Google services displayed in English and instruct Chrome to use google.com (instead of the country-specific site)? My language setting in Windows is English, so Chrome should already use this by default, and I've also set my language preference in iGoogle to English (U.S.), yet if I'm in France, for example, my searches take place on google.fr and sites like the Google News are in French. Chrome tries to be helpful by suggesting to translate these pages for me, but it would be far better to direct to the original English version of these sites in the first place. How do I fix this?

  • MySQL: Query to obtain recipes using all given ingredients.

    - by John_A
hi I have the following simplified tables: CREATE TABLE recipe(id int, name varchar(25)); CREATE TABLE ingredient(name varchar(25)); CREATE TABLE uses_ingredient(recipe_id int, name varchar(25)); I want to make a query that returns all id's of recipes that contain both Chicken and Cream. I have tried SELECT recipe_id FROM uses_ingredient INNER JOIN (SELECT * FROM ingredient WHERE name="Chicken" OR name="Cream") USING (name) GROUP BY recipe_id HAVING COUNT(recipe_id) >= (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM theme); which gives me :"ERROR 1248 (42000): Every derived table must have its own alias" and is probably wrong too. Next I tried SELECT recipe_id FROM (SELECT * FROM ingredient WHERE name="Chicken" OR name="Cream") AS t INNER JOIN uses_ingredient USING (name) GROUP BY recipe_id HAVING COUNT(recipe_id)>= (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM t); which gives "ERROR 1146 (42S02): Table 'recipedb.t' doesn't exist" I want to avoid creating temporary tables including using ENGINE=MEMORY.

Also how do you know when you get an autorelease object? And for a1, i dont have to loop through the array and release each object first? What if i called [a1 removeAllObjects]; does that call [[a1 objectAtIndex:#] release]; Am i supposed to release those objects after ive added them to the array?

Below is my HTML code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="all" href="style/food.css" /> <!--[if IE 7]> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" href="style/ie7.css" /> <![endif]--> </head> <body> <div class="main_content_inner_ko"> <div class="product_item"> <img src="images/product_icons/BigNTasty.png" alt="Big N&rsquo;   • A MongoDB find() that matches when all $and conditions match the same sub-document?

    - by MichaelOryl
If I have a set of MongoDB documents like the following, what can I do to get a find() result that only returns the families who have 2 pets who all like liver? Here is what I expected to work: db.delegation.find({pets:2, $and: [{'foods.liver': true}, {'foods.allLike': true}] }) Here is the document collection: { "_id" : ObjectId("5384888e380efca06276cf5e"), "family": "smiths", "pets": 2, "foods" : [ { "name" : "chicken", "allLike" : true, }, { "name" : "liver", "allLike" : false, } ] }, { "_id" : ObjectId("4384888e380efca06276cf50"), "family": "jones", "pets": 2, "foods" : [ { "name" : "chicken", "allLike" : true, }, { "name" : "liver", "allLike" : true, } ] } What I end up getting is both families because they both have at least one food marked as true for allLike. It seems that the two conditions in the $and are true if any foods sub-document matches, but what I want is the two conditions to match for the conditions as a pair. As is, I get the Jones family back (as I want) but also Smith (which I don't). Smith gets returned because the chicken sub-doc has allLike set to true and the liver sub-doc has a name of 'liver'. The conditions are matching across separate foods sub-docs. I want them to match as a pair on a foods document. This code is not the real use case, obviously. I have one, but I've simplified it to protect the innocent...

  • add an image in listview

    - by danish
Hi I would like to add more images in my list view as this code below only displays image 1 and 2 continuously in each row. What I want to do is display a different image for each different row. Here is mycode below; Thanks for any help. I am not good at java please change the code where necessary and I can then refer to it. public class starters extends ListActivity { private static class EfficientAdapter extends BaseAdapter { private LayoutInflater mInflater; private Bitmap mIcon1; private Bitmap mIcon2; private Bitmap mIcon3; private Bitmap mIcon4; private Bitmap mIcon5; private Bitmap mIcon6; private Bitmap mIcon7; private Bitmap mIcon8; private Bitmap mIcon9; private Bitmap mIcon10; public EfficientAdapter(Context context) { // Cache the LayoutInflate to avoid asking for a new one each time. mInflater = LayoutInflater.from(context); // Icons bound to the rows. mIcon1 = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(context.getResources(), R.drawable.starters1); mIcon2 = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(context.getResources(), R.drawable.starters2); mIcon3 = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(context.getResources(), R.drawable.starters3); mIcon4 = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(context.getResources(), R.drawable.starters4); mIcon5 = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(context.getResources(), R.drawable.starters5); mIcon6 = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(context.getResources(), R.drawable.starters6); mIcon7 = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(context.getResources(), R.drawable.starters7); mIcon8 = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(context.getResources(), R.drawable.starters8); mIcon9 = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(context.getResources(), R.drawable.starters9); mIcon10 = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(context.getResources(), R.drawable.starters10); } public int getCount() { return DATA.length; } public Object getItem(int position) { return position; } public long getItemId(int position) { return position; } public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { // A ViewHolder keeps references to children views to avoid unneccessary calls // to findViewById() on each row.
