  • Package management fails in update-manager with gzip problems and compilation errors. U12.04LTS

    - by HarveyP
Similar to but not the same as Package management system corrupted. Cannot install or remove packages. U12.04LTS (an earlier problem) with package management system. Followed all of L. D. James suggestions in his answer to no avail. This time as well as the gzip error I am also getting compilation errors. The difference may be due to a lack of compilation in my earlier problem so it may be the same error. The packages concerned are enumerated in the output from update-manager below. Also included below that is the output from apt-get -f install apt-get autoremove gives same output. Tried update without SSL updates - 9 to install and got "Unhandled Error in aptdaemon". Output number 3 below. One at a time - output 4 - is for firefox, first in the list of packages. Falls over at libssl1.0.0 despite deselection of it from update ... Tried apt-get install --reinstall dpkg which succeeded, apt-get install --reinstall tar and apt-get install --reinstall gzip both of which failed at libssl1.0.0 as ever. (as suggested by Subv3rsion elsewhere in this forum) Now cannot apt-get update with complete success even after changing server and apt-get clean - output number 5 below ... 1). Output from update-manager The following packages will be upgraded:<> firefox firefox-globalmenu firefox-locale-en libavcodec-extra-53 libavformat53 libavutil-extra-51 libjson0 libpostproc52 libssl1.0.0 libswscale2 openssl 11 to upgrade, 0 to newly install, 0 to remove and 0 not to upgrade.<br> Need to get 0 B/46.5 MB of archives. • Bulk Rename Tool is a Lightweight but Powerful File Renaming Tool

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
There’s no need to settle for overly simplistic file renaming tools as long as Bulk Rename Tool is around. It’s lightweight, insanely customizable, portable, and sure to make short work of any renaming task you throw at it. Bulk Rename Tool is a great portable application (available as an installed version if you crave context menu integration) that blasts through file renaming tasks. The main panel is intimidatingly packed with toggles and variables you can alter; this isn’t a one-click solution by any means. That said, once you get comfortable using the interface it’s lightening fast and extremely flexible. One tip that will save you an enormous amount of frustrating when you get started: make sure to highlight the files you want to change in the file preview window (located in the upper right corner) or else you won’t see the preview and won’t know if the changes you’re making in the control panel are yielding the file names you desire. Hit up the link below to read more and grab a copy; Bulk Rename Tool is free, Windows only. • Cross compilation of udns for power pc

    - by pragya
I have libraries of x86 architecture that I want to cross compile for power pc. I have already cross compiled different libraries for power pc by setting environment variables for powerpc and using appropriate options with ./configure. Now, I want to cross compile libudns for powerpc. In ./configure --help I am not getting those appropriate options to cross compile. For libudns, I set environment variables for powerpc and ran ./configure but it throws following error: configure: fatal: $CC (powerpc-linux-gnu-gcc) is not a working compiler

  • "Error detecting shell" when launching Gnome Tweak Tool

    - by user70988
It was working before I started the process of installing Gnome. I've poked around on Google but can't find anything. If I log into Gnome the screen is massively zoomed in and I have to pan around the page. I was hoping the appropriate setting would be in the tweak tool. __ WARNING : Error detecting shell Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/tweaks/tweak_shell_extensions.py", line 149, in __init__ shell = GnomeShellFactory().get_shell() File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/utils.py", line 38, in getinstance instances[cls] = cls() File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/gshellwrapper.py", line 143, in __init__ proxy = _ShellProxy() File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/gshellwrapper.py", line 44, in __init__ result, output = self.proxy.Eval('(s)', js) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gi/overrides/Gio.py", line 148, in __call__ kwargs.get('flags', 0), kwargs.get('timeout', -1), None) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gi/types.py", line 43, in function return info.invoke(*args, **kwargs) GError: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.Shell was not provided by any .service files WARNING : Shell not running Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/tweaks/tweak_shell.py", line 59, in __init__ self._shell = GnomeShellFactory().get_shell() File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/utils.py", line 38, in getinstance instances[cls] = cls() File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/gshellwrapper.py", line 143, in __init__ proxy = _ShellProxy() File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/gshellwrapper.py", line 44, in __init__ result, output = self.proxy.Eval('(s)', js) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gi/overrides/Gio.py", line 148, in __call__ kwargs.get('flags', 0), kwargs.get('timeout', -1), None) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gi/types.py", line 43, in function return info.invoke(*args, **kwargs) GError: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.Shell was not provided by any .service files WARNING : Could not list shell extensions Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/tweaks/tweak_shell.py", line 64, in __init__ extensions = self._shell.list_extensions() AttributeError: ShellThemeTweak instance has no attribute '_shell' Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/gnome-tweak-tool", line 76, in <module> MainWindow() File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/mainwindow.py", line 44, in __init__ model) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/tweakview.py", line 40, in __init__ self._model.load_tweaks() File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/tweakmodel.py", line 135, in load_tweaks mods = __import__("gtweak.tweaks", globals(), locals(), tweak_files, 0) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/tweaks/tweak_shell.py", line 236, in <module> GSettingsSwitchTweak("org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power", "lid-close-suspend-with-external-monitor"), File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/widgets.py", line 116, in __init__ _GSettingsTweak.__init__(self, schema_name, key_name, **options) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/widgets.py", line 105, in __init__ options.get("summary",self.settings.schema_get_summary(key_name)), File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/gsettings.py", line 122, in schema_get_summary return self._schema._schema[key]["summary"] KeyError: 'lid-close-suspend-with-external-monitor'

  • How to change fonts using gnome-tweak-tool?

    - by john the fatbloke
As a non-techie type user, I've managed to find the "Advanced Settings" option in the "other" menu listing, which is good (sort of). In the past, I've routinely installed the windows fonts from my windows partition. Now even though I have the msttcorefonts package installed, and all of the .ttf windows fonts installed (as far as I can tell), it doesn't matter whether I log out and back in (which in the past has brought up some of the stuff I've wanted installed), or even if I just restart the Ubuntu completely from boot, none of them are listed. So how do I make the gnome tweek tool see the directory with all the fonts in it please ?

  • How can I enable Gnome Shell Extensions with Ubuntu 11.10?

I am having a problem similar to that asked (and solved) here: Can't enable GNOME Shell extensions. • Cannot install shell-themes using gnome-tweak-tool

    - by Chris
How do I fix this? I will attempt to upload a screenshot of the problem. Notice there is an error like triangle near the shell themes and nothing is select-able. Also there are no shell extensions under the shell extensions tab. I have come across many postings on how to fix this but none worked for me. I currently have 12.04 LTS. I have a custom Phenom quad core machine with Radeon HD 5770 graphics if that helps.

  • .net VS2008 compilation analyzer tool ?

    - by Matthieu
Hi, I'm looking for a tool that allows me to analyze the compilation of a VS Solution (about 30 VS projects inside). I would like to know after the global solution compilation, which projets fail and forward errors to developers. Of course, I could analyze the compilation report... but I'm pretty sure that great tools are available ! What is for you the best one ? Thanks a lot !

  • How to improve Visual C++ compilation times?

    - by dtrosset
I am compiling 2 C++ projects in a buildbot, on each commit. Both are around 1000 files, one is 100 kloc, the other 170 kloc. Compilation times are very different from gcc (4.4) to Visual C++ (2008). Visual C++ compilations for one project take in the 20 minutes. They cannot take advantage of the multiple cores because a project depend on the other. In the end, a full compilation of both projects in Debug and Release, in 32 and 64 bits takes more than 2 1/2 hours. gcc compilations for one project take in the 4 minutes. It can be parallelized on the 4 cores and takes around 1 min 10 secs. All 8 builds for 4 versions (Debug/Release, 32/64 bits) of the 2 projects are compiled in less than 10 minutes. What is happening with Visual C++ compilation times? They are basically 5 times slower. What is the average time that can be expected to compile a C++ kloc? Mine are 7 s/kloc with vc++ and 1.4 s/kloc with gcc. Can anything be done to speed-up compilation times on Visual C++?

  • How to get more details of a java compilation

    - by Farid
Hi, We are using an ant script in order to build our application. I recently made a change in one jar required by our app. However, when running the ant script, the compilation fails and the error message shown let me think that the compiler is using a previous version of the jar. Also, compilation throug my IDE works fine. Manual compilation with the javac command and specifying my new jar works as well. When looking at the classpath used by ant to build, I can see that the jar seems to be the correct one. So I am a bit lost actually, don't know where to look at ... Any ideas ? I also wanted to know if this is possible to get the path of the jar javac is really using when compiling a particular class .. Thanks and regards

  • How to reduce compilation times with Boost Asio

    - by Artyom
Boost.Asio is great library but it has one huge drawback -- extreamly slow compilation times. A simple implementation (really simple) of HTTP protocol (about 1k lines of code) requires about 13.5s to compile under GCC 4.4! I tryed to use PCH but it does not improve compilation times too much (about 1s. only). So are there any tutorials on how to make Boost.Asio compilation times faster? For example what headers should I exactly include for what class. I use for example: io_service, tcp::ip::sockets, tcp::ip::acceptor, deadline_timer, buffers and few functions like async_read, async_write. Any suggestions? P.S.: I do use pimpl whenever I can.

Tehnologies: - CruiseControlNet - Asp.net MVC 2 RTM - enabled view compilation The problem is UrlParameter.Optional setting. I can't seem to make it work when I use this setting inside a view. When I compile inside Visual Studio, everything works fine, but when CCNet uses MSBuild to compile it it fails with following error: errorCS0103: The name 'UrlParameter' does not exist in the current context pointing to the line inside my view where this parameter is set on: Html.RenderAction(...) that sets certain route parameter(s) to optional. I tried adding <%@ Assembly name="System.Web.Mvc" %> at the top of my view, but it didn't work either. It works of course when I disable view compilation, but that's not really an option. And I also don't want to set my optional parameters to string.Empty. Anyone has any hint on this?

  • iOS - conditional compilation (xcode)

    - by sol
I have created an additional iPad target for what was originally an iphone app. From the Apple docs: "In nearly all cases, you will want to define a new view controller class to manage the iPad version of your application interface, especially if that interface is at all different from your iPhone interface. You can use conditional compilation to coordinate the creation of the different view controllers." But they don't give any example or detail on what conditional compilation is. Can anyone give an example? And where would I do this?

  • Boot disc Dual-Core CPU stress tool

    - by Ssvarc
Looking for a tool that can test a daul-core cpu via a boot disc, thus bypassing Windows (and ensuring that only the hardware is being tested). UBCD4Win's included Prime95 is an older version and it can't run two threads at once. Ditto for UBCD. Any idea? And while I'm asking, is there a boot tool for GPU's? Thanks!
