• Building static nav in concrete5

  I've inherited a site built with the CMS concrete5. I'm just starting to dissect it but was hit with a wicked short deadline on a complete overhaul to the nav. So, I want to build out a static nav and then go back when I have more time and integrate it with the auto-nav. Does anybody have experience working with concrete5? If so: Where would I drop my custom static nav? Is it possible to select it from the admin (so that the current one is still available if the client wants to switch back via the admin)? Thanks!

• Can I use Code Igniter with Concrete5?

  I am building a site that will (obvisouly) have a front end public portion that I want to drive with Concrete5, but then it will also have a members section that I would like to build with Code Igniter. Does anyone have any idea how I could do that? I guess I could just throw the Code Igniter code into a sub directory, but would I run into any issues with that?

• Deploying concrete5 on nginx

  I have a concrete5 site that works 'out of the box' in apache server. However I am having a lot of trouble running it in nginx. The inner pages display an "Access denied". Possibly the rewrite is not working, in effect I think its querying and trying to execute php files directly instead of going through the concrete dispatcher. I am totally lost here. • High quality/performance shared hosting (in northern Europe)

  I work as a web developer on almost all levels. However, my typical customer is a 1-5 guys running some sort of consulting business. They have (or want) a web page with some kind of CMS so the can perform most (or all) editing themselves. I normally opt for Concrete5 as my default CMS because it's the most user friendly (and free) CMS I have found. My good recurring customers I host on my own server as a service, but I need a good host for the customers where I want to deliver a product and not be responsible for whatever may happen in the future. However, I still struggle with hosting! Experience shows that the typical ~1$ shared hosting is waaay to slow to run concrete5 smoothly, and a VPS is out of the question because I don't want to maintain it. So, where can I find as fast (from northern Europe), reliable, shared host where I can put a site and don't have to worry about the server going down or being unmaintained. I expect this should cost around $10-$20 but I'm open to all kinds of suggestions because different customers have different budgets.

• News Portal CMS

  I am looking for a specific news portal CMS. I know all the major "general" CMS (like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla) and even the less known ones (like TYPO3, Expression Engine, Text Pattern or Concrete5). I'm already working with a Drupal distribution called OpenPublish and another WordPress installation to determine which would be better, but these are more of a Plan B. I would like to work directly with a CMS that was build exactly for this kind of tasks specific to a news / media portal. It doesn't matter if the CMS is commercial (however, I don't want to pay a monthly fee) or free, but I need to be able to use it on my own server / hosting and I need to be able to access it's source code (not to modify it, but to integrate it with future plugins / modules). If you know any CMS that qualifies for this job, please let me know. In the last few days I was all over Google but I couldn't anything worth mentioning.

• IE 8 doesn't appear to clear cache on demand. Is anyone else seeing this?

  I have a client that uploads updated pdf files to her Concrete5 CMS, through the file manager, replacing the old file with the same name. She then does a cms "clear cache" and exits as she should. Then, in testing, she finds that the old file still comes up when clicking on the link. On further review, the cms file manager version tracking shows that the file has been updated, and, for me, the new file comes up, as it should, when clicking the link. My client hase also refreshed her browser cache and still, she only gets the old file when clicking on the link. She says that, while she can't seem to force an immediate cache update, overnight it appears to update. My client is also part of a large company-wide lan and intranet. Is it possible that there is a cache function placed outside of her local browser and cms cache that is not updating?

• Single-developer GIT workflow (moving from straightforward FTP)

  I'm trying to decide whether moving to VCS is sensible for me. I am a single web developer in a small organisation (5 people). I'm thinking of VCS (Git) for these reasons: version control, offsite backup, centralised code repository (can access from home). At the moment I work on a live server generally. I FTP in, make my edits and save them, then reupload and refresh. The edits are usually to theme/plugin files for CMSes (e.g. concrete5 or Wordpress). This works well but provides no backup and no version control. I'm wondering how best to integrate VCS into this procedure. I would envisage setting up a Git server on the company's web server, but I'm not clear how to push changes out to client accounts (usually VPSes on the same server) - at the moment I simply log into SFTP with their details and make the changes directly. I'm also not sure what would sensibly represent a repository - would each client's website get their own one? Any insights or experience would be really helpful. I don't think I need the full power of Git by any means, but basic version control and de facto cloud access would be really useful.

• Using Alias in Apache ONLY if local directory not present?

  Hey all, We're running a reseller web host, and aliasing a particular directory for ALL the sites within. This is all happening through WHM/Cpanel, which could possibly complicate my question. We want all hosts to run their "/concrete" directory through a shared location on the server. This is working fine by adding "Alias /concrete/ "/usr/local/share/concrete5/concrete-latest/concrete/" to the apache include editor in WHM. However, if a local concrete/ directory exists within the particular webroot of the virtual host, we'd rather use that than "/concrete" globally. It would also be nice if we could make this alias change in the context of the virtual host, within WHM (and I haven't found a great way to modify virtual host sections in WHM without hacking a file that I don't believe we're supposed to hack.) Thoughts?

• Jenkins CI - Cannot allocate memory

  I tested jenkins-ci successfully on a ubuntu 10.4 (with vmware fusion) on my local computer. Now I want to install and use it on my virtual server at hosteurope. The basic installation was no problem, but now I have problems with my build project. After pulling an mercurial update from a repository, ant is invoked and throws the following error in my build project: "Buildfile: /var/lib/jenkins/workspace/concrete5-seed-clean/build.xml [property] java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "/usr/bin/env": java.io.IOException: error=12, Cannot allocate memory" There is a known problem with heap size at virtual servers at hosteurope (http://faq.hosteurope.de/index.php?cpid=13918), so I tried to set the heap size manually: # for ant export ANT_OPTS="-Xms512m -Xmx512m" # jenkins # edited /etc/default/jenkins, added line JAVA_ARGS="-Xms512m -Xmx512m" # restarted jenkins via /etc/init.d/jenkins restart After setting this for ant, the command "ant -diagnostics" runs through and does not cause an error, but the error still occurs when I try to build the project. Server-Details: - http://www.hosteurope.de/produkt/Virtual-Server-Linux-L Ubuntu 10.4 LTS RAM: 1GB / Dynamic 2GB My questions: - Is 1GB enough for Jenkins or do I have to upgrade the server? - Is this error caused by ant or jenkins? Update: I got it running with ant options -Xmx128m -Xms128m, but sometimes the error occurs again. (this freaks me out, cause i can not reproduce it by now :/ ) Help much appreciated! • Varnish going sick

  I'm having trouble with Varnish, it works for a couple of views and then just goes sick... The weird thing is that it does work for about 20 or 30 requests. If I call apache directly it works fine. I'm running Varnish Version: 3.0.3-1 on Debian Squeeze and, for now, Apache on port 80 and Varnish on port 8080 on the same server.. I'm using https://github.com/mattiasgeniar/varnish-3.0-configuration-templates as base for my VCLs and modified the VCLs to support Concrete5. • .htaccess - alias all www-only requests to subdirectory

  Trying to install the wonderful Concrete5 CMS to use as my main site engine - the problem is it has about 15 different files and directories, and they clutter up my root. I'd really like to move it to a /_concrete/ subdirectory, and still maintain it in the domain root. htaccess has never been my strong suit - after a lot of research and learning, and a lot of error 500s, my frustration is overriding my pride and I'm posting here. Here's exactly what I'm trying to accomplish: Any requests that come through www.domain.com are forwarded to www.domain.com/_concrete/, except in the case of an existing file. The end-user URL shouldn't change - they will still see the site as www.domain.com, even though they're being served www.domain.com/_concrete/. Multiple subdomains exist on this site as sub-folders within the root - thus, only requests coming through www.domain.com should be redirected. Here's the closest I got with my htaccess, which produces an error 500: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?domain\.com [NC] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !^_concrete RewriteRule ^(.*)$ _concrete/$1 [L,QSA] This is the result of 4 hours of sweat and blood (mostly blood), so I have to be close. I'm hoping one of your fine minds can point out a stupid mistake and put this thing to rest swiftly. Thanks for your time! Addendum: I previously posted .htaccess - alias domain root to subfolder a while ago, which got me started. Please don't fall into the trap of thinking it's a duplicate.
