• Is the Microsoft Surface restricted to Chinese display language in China and Hong Kong

  I currently live in China so my only options to buy a Surface tablet is to buy it here or in Hong Kong. Problem is that by default the entire UI is in Chinese. In the x86 version of Windows 8 you can install additional language packs to solve this, but I'm wondering if this is true for the tablet as well In the shop (Sunning) they will not let me try that, and if I buy one and it turns out you can't install language packs than I'm pooched. Can't find any official information on it either, at least nothing that refers to the tablet directly. (and whether or not the Chinese version is restricted in some way)

  I have a multi-language site for English and Chinese (Hong Kong). My previous setting for Chinese Hong Kong (zh-hk) had: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" dir="ltr" lang="zh-hk" xml:lang="zh-hk"> Shortly, I began to notice browser with other Chinese language sub-codes like zh-tw and zh-cn were seeing my English site in search engines instead of Chinese Hong Kong (zh-hk), which makes sense. I want to change my html lang to: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" dir="ltr" lang="zh" xml:lang="zh"> Would this cover all Chinese language settings? Also, would Google prefer to show pages that match language subcodes of the browser/country (zh-hk for Hong Kong, zh-cn for Taiwan) than a general language code (zh)?

• Web Server Routing Based On Location

  I have a website that has users from both Hong Kong and Australia. Unfortunately, since the server is located in Australia, users from Hong Kong are going to suffer latency problems. Traffic has to go through US before travelling back to Australia. So I've setup a server in Hong Kong as well, and users using the .hk TLD are going to be redirected to the Hong Kong web server. It shares the same database server with the Australian server but due to aggressive SQL query caching, impact on performance from latency from SQL queries are negligible. But for users accustomed to the Hong Kong website but have since traveled to Australia, they suffer from additional latency because they go to the .hk site which redirects to the HK server even when they're in Australia. The website is targeted at international students from Hong Kong so this is an significant issue for me. Instead of redirecting users to the closest web server based on the TLD, how do I redirect users based on their location? Currently I am using nginx, postgres and Django. Say I know how to estimate users' location based on users' IP addresses, what is my next step? At what level would I work on? What topic should I read up?

It is also because the Windows PC is locked down by company policy. I cannot install useful applications like cygwin at will. • How to switch between the upper and lower pane in emacs?

  I am using the erlang mode in Aquamacs. The mode, by default, creates a new pane and buffer "*erlang*" when I hit C-C C-K to compile an erlang file. (as seen in the attached screen shot) What is the easiest way to switch between these two panes? I do not think "C-x b" is applicable in this case because 'C-X b' then "*erlang" is slow considering I have to switch between my files and the erlang shell rather frequently.

A lof of result are rather dated too. I checked the documentation but it does not mention any tables. What is the root cause of this problem? At the very least I would like to see a list of the required tables somewhere?

• Install full version of Unity on Chrome OS using crouton

  I have an Acer Chromebook. Using crouton, I installed Ubuntu (unity) on it. I am pretty familiar Ubuntu 12.04. But the installed one is very minimized package. My fonts are missing and I manually installed language pack for Korean but still browser can't display Korean characters. Is there a way to install the whole packages via crouton like when you install Ubuntu 12.04 with the CD? Or is there a script that installs the missing packages on the bare Ubuntu? Thanks. Sam

  I've just installed a Ubuntu for a file server. It will share a folder (samba) and employees of my company will save photos on that. Currently the total amount of the photos is about 100GB and every day 20MB will be added. My question is about backup plan. I want to backup the photos to a remote server using a cron job. I can think of 2 things. rsync git Image files won't be changed so rsync will do. But as people say, I must git all my data. What would you do? Thanks. Sam

• UIImages on UITableView?

  what is the best method to display about 300 png images into a UITableView.. i dont wanna display them at the same time... i have 3 tableViewControllers that will each display about 100 imgaes.. (its for a catalog so the images are important to display) i used [uiimage imageNamed:] but that method caches the images and they dont get released so the memory usage is big.... is there any way to release the cache when the nav controller pushes a different view controller? i also tried [uiimage alloc] initWithContentsOfFile] but the images wont display.... any help?

• Pasting images in TinyMCE on rails app

  Hi, I found a weird problem with TinyMCE editor. Copying & pasting images from another domain works fine but if the images are on the same domain the path are relative but not correct sometimes. I figured out that the problem is related to the rails URL scheme. Example) Images are copied from http://mydomain.com/index.html page and the real images path is http://mydomain.com/photos/image.jpg. Editor page: http://mydomain.com/posts/new = image path is set as ../photos/image.jpg http://mydomain.com/posts/edit/123 = image path is set as ../../photos/image.jpg So I tried http://mydomain.com/posts/new/ and it worked.   Hi, I am developing a rails 2.3.2 app. I need to keep session_id for an order record, retrieve it and finally delete the session_id when the order is completed. It worked when I used cookies as session store but it doesn't for active_record store. (I restarted my browser, so no cache issue.) I know rails 2.3 implements lazy session load. I read some info about it but am still confused. Can somebody clarify how I use session_id for such a case? What I am doing is... A user make an order going through several pages. There is no sign-up, neither login. So I keep session_id in the order record so that no other user can access the order. @order = Order.last :conditions = {:id = params[:id], :session_id = session[:session_id] } When the order is finished, I set nil to session_id column. How would you implement such a case in lazy session(and active_record store) environment? Thanks. Sam

• How do I refresh TinyMCE for the code that I add with JavaScript

  Hi, I need to insert code for flash to TinyMCE with JavaScript. If I insert the same code using HTML menu of TinyMCE, it automatically add flash icon to the editor. But if I insert the code using JavaScript, the actual code is inserted but it shows nothing on the screen. One trick I found is toggle TinyMCE to normal textarea and back to TinyMCE. Then, it shows the flash icon. Is there a better way to do that? Thanks. Sam
