  • How much does it cost to make a phone?

    - by geoffreyf67
I was curious if there are any websites that detail how much it costs to make a phone. Not a cell phone but a landline phone. It seems that the ones with any decent features have always cost $100+ and I'd have thought that the price would have dropped over the years but that doesn't seem to be happening. So I figured I'd look into the cost of making the phones. G-Man

  • why can't macports find make

    - by GeoffreyF67
I am trying to run macports like thus: port install php5 When I do so, however, I get this error: Error: Unable to open port: can't read "build.cmd": Failed to locate 'make' in path: '/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin' or at its MacPorts configuration time location, did you move it? So I looked at my path: declare -x PATH="/Developer/usr/bin:/opt/subversion/bin:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/usr/local/php5/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin" and then looked to make sure make was in one of those dirs: ls -l /Developer/usr/bin/make $ lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 7 Aug 7 16:47 /Developer/usr/bin/make -> gnumake And typing: make produces: make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. So I know that it's there. But macports can't find it. Any ideas? G-Man

  • OS X Address Not Available - How do I open this port?

    - by GeoffreyF67
I am trying to get xdebug working on my snow leopard box. It uses port 9000. When I ask slickedit to monitor this port is gives an error that the address is not available. I've gone to canyouseeme.org to see if the port is open. It says the port is NOT open. I've verified that I have that port forwarding to my box from the router and i do NOT have the mac firewall running. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

  • Hardware Lossless Compression for Hard Drives?

    - by GeoffreyF67
I happened across this article about hardware based hard drive encryption and realized that not only would this give a great way to protect your data but it would also speed up the applications that we use to encrypt that data. This lead me to wonder... Would it be possible to do the same thing for compression so that all of the data is compressed or uncompressed appropriately as it is read and written to the drive? I haven't done any firmware programming in quite some time so I'm not even sure this is technically possible. If it were, however, it could probably give quite a bit more storage space to folks. What are the pros and cons of programming such an approach to be used in the firmware? G-Man

  • What method should be used for searching this mysql dataset?

    - by GeoffreyF67
I've got a mysql dataset that contains 86 million rows. I need to have a relatively fast search through this data. The data I'll be searching through is all strings. I also need to do partial matches. Now, if I have 'foobar' and search for '%oob%' I know it'll be really slow - it has to look at every row to see if there is a match. What methods can be used to speed queries like this up? G-Man

  • How can I return a value from GM_xmlhttprequest?

    - by GeoffreyF67
I have this code here: var infiltrationResult; while(thisOption) { var trNode = document.createElement('tr'); var tdNode = document.createElement('td'); var hrefNode = document.createElement('a'); infPlanetID = thisOption.getAttribute('value'); var myURL = "http://www.hyperiums.com/servlet/Planetinf?securitylevel=90&newinfiltr=New+infiltration&planetid=" + PlanetID + "&infplanetid=" + infPlanetID; GM_xmlhttpRequest({ method: 'GET', url: myURL, headers: { 'User-agent': 'Mozilla/4.0 (compatible) Greasemonkey', 'Accept': 'application/atom+xml,application/xml,text/xml', }, onload: function(responseDetails) { if (responseDetails.responseText.match(/<b>Invalid order<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><BR><center><font color=#AAAA77 face=verdana, arial size=2>The target planet is blocking all infiltrations[\s\S]<BR><BR>/im)) { // Successful match infiltrationResult = 'Invalid Order'; } else { // Match attempt failed infiltrationResult = 'Infiltration Successfully Created'; } } }); When I add alert(infiltrationResult); right after it is assigned, I correctly see the string. However, after the function has exited, I have try the same alert and I get: undefined Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I'm guessing it's some simple silly javascript synxtax I'm missing here :) G-Man

  • Sending forgot password emails

    - by GeoffreyF67
I am building a service that will have a 'forgot my password' feature. In addition to that, it will also email users when results are ready from my service. I would like to ensure delivery of my emails so I was looking around to find a service that would let me send emails. All that I've been able to find so far are services that require a user to opt-in to a list. In other words, I've been unable to find any that will let me send customized messages to individual users. I am currently using swiftmailer for php but would really like to find a service to do this...Anyone know of one? G-Man

  • How can I optimize the import of this dataset in mysql?

    - by GeoffreyF67
I've got the following table schema: CREATE TABLE `alexa` ( `id` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL, `rank` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL, `domain` varchar(63) NOT NULL, `domainStatus` varchar(6) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`rank`), KEY `domain` (`domain`), KEY `id` (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 It takes several minutes to import the data. To me that seems rather slow as we're only talking about a million rows of data. What can I do to optimize the insert of this data? (already using disable keys) G-Man

  • Delay garbage collection?

    - by GeoffreyF67
I'm using chrome (the dev version for my mac). I was looking at the timeline for my page loading and I saw that there is a 150ms delay due to some garbage collection taking place while loading the page. http://cl.ly/cce10619c698a5b276e2 It's the yellow line. I was curious if there's any way to stop this, delay it, whatever so I get the page to load faster? G-Man
