  • Google App Engine JDO error caused by GregorianCalendar ?

    - by Frank
    My class looks like this : import javax.jdo.annotations.IdGeneratorStrategy; import javax.jdo.annotations.IdentityType; import javax.jdo.annotations.PersistenceCapable; import javax.jdo.annotations.Persistent; import javax.jdo.annotations.PrimaryKey; @PersistenceCapable(identityType=IdentityType.APPLICATION) public class Contact_Info implements Serializable { @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy=IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) Long Id; public static final long serialVersionUID=26362862L; @Persistent String Contact_Id=""; @Persistent GregorianCalendar Date_1; public Contact_Info() { } public void setId(Long value) { Id=value; } public Long getId() { return Id; } public void setContact_Id(String value) { Contact_Id=value; } public String getContact_Id() { return Contact_Id; } public void setDate_1(GregorianCalendar value) { Date_1=value; } public GregorianCalendar getDate_1() { return Date_1; } public String toString() { return Contact_Id; } } When it's run, I got the following error : java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException org.datanucleus.store.appengine.EntityUtils.getPropertyName(EntityUtils.java:62) org.datanucleus.store.appengine.DatastoreFieldManager.storeObjectField(DatastoreFieldManager.java:839) org.datanucleus.state.AbstractStateManager.providedObjectField(AbstractStateManager.java:1037) PayPal_Monitor.Contact_Info.jdoProvideField(Contact_Info.java) PayPal_Monitor.Contact_Info.jdoProvideFields(Contact_Info.java) org.datanucleus.state.JDOStateManagerImpl.provideFields(JDOStateManagerImpl.java:2715) org.datanucleus.store.appengine.DatastorePersistenceHandler.insertPreProcess(DatastorePersistenceHandler.java:341) org.datanucleus.store.appengine.DatastorePersistenceHandler.insertObjects(DatastorePersistenceHandler.java:251) If I take out the "GregorianCalendar Date_1", it works correctly, what should I do to fix it ? I do need the date in it. Frank

  • Problem getting weeks in a month with NSCalendar...

    - by AngrySpade
    I am creating a calendar control of sorts... One thing I need to know is how many weeks are there in a Month... So NSCalendar rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate Seems to be exactly what I need... Except I am noticing something that seems off and I can't quite figure out why this is happening... The following code... NSCalendar *calendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSDateComponents *dateComponents = [[NSDateComponents alloc] init]; [dateComponents setYear: 2010]; [dateComponents setDay: 1]; for (int x=1; x<=12; x++) { [dateComponents setMonth: x]; NSDate *date = [calendar dateFromComponents:dateComponents]; NSLog(@"Date: %@", date); NSRange range = [calendar rangeOfUnit: NSWeekCalendarUnit inUnit: NSMonthCalendarUnit forDate:date]; NSLog(@"%d Weeks in Month %d", range.length, [dateComponents month]); } Is returning the following debug messages... 2010-03-14 13:08:10.350 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-01-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.351 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 1 2010-03-14 13:08:10.352 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-02-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.352 Scrap[4256:207] 4 Weeks in Month 2 2010-03-14 13:08:10.353 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-03-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.353 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 3 2010-03-14 13:08:10.354 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-04-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.355 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 4 2010-03-14 13:08:10.356 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-05-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.357 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 5 2010-03-14 13:08:10.358 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-06-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.358 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 6 2010-03-14 13:08:10.359 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-07-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.360 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 7 2010-03-14 13:08:10.361 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-08-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.364 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 8 2010-03-14 13:08:10.364 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-09-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.365 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 9 2010-03-14 13:08:10.366 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-10-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.366 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 10 2010-03-14 13:08:10.367 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-11-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.367 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 11 2010-03-14 13:08:10.369 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-12-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.369 Scrap[4256:207] 52 Weeks in Month 12 I cant quite figure out why I get 52 weeks in month 12. Any clues? Edit on 3/20/2010: Seeing as how I couldnt use rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate to calculate the number of weeks in a month. I decided to figure out a different way of calculating the same value. I figured I should do this in a non-Gregorian localized way, so I attempted to start with getting the number of days in a week, but I got the result of 28 days in a week. So I started writing more code to figure out why... I wanted to make sure that the type of NSCalendar that I was playing with was in fact what I was supposed to be getting... And that led me to finding some differences... NSCalendar *currentCalendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSLog(@"Calendar with 'currentCalendar' Identifier: %@", [currentCalendar calendarIdentifier]); NSCalendar *calendarWithIdentifier = [[[NSCalendar alloc] initWithCalendarIdentifier: NSGregorianCalendar] autorelease]; NSLog(@"Calendar created with identifier Identifier: %@", [calendarWithIdentifier calendarIdentifier]); NSDate *now = [[NSDate alloc] init]; NSDateComponents *currentMonth = [currentCalendar components: NSMonthCalendarUnit | NSYearCalendarUnit fromDate: now]; NSDate *currentMonthDate = [currentCalendar dateFromComponents: currentMonth]; NSRange daysInWeekRange = [currentCalendar rangeOfUnit: NSDayCalendarUnit inUnit: NSWeekCalendarUnit forDate: currentMonthDate]; NSLog(@"CurrentCalendar: Length:%u Location:%u", daysInWeekRange.length, daysInWeekRange.location); currentMonth = [calendarWithIdentifier components: NSMonthCalendarUnit | NSYearCalendarUnit fromDate: now]; currentMonthDate = [calendarWithIdentifier dateFromComponents: currentMonth]; daysInWeekRange = [calendarWithIdentifier rangeOfUnit: NSDayCalendarUnit inUnit: NSWeekCalendarUnit forDate: currentMonthDate]; NSLog(@"GregorianCalendar: Length:%u Location:%u", daysInWeekRange.length, daysInWeekRange.location); And that got me the following log results... 2010-03-20 21:02:27.245 Scrap[52189:207] Calendar with 'currentCalendar' Identifier: gregorian 2010-03-20 21:02:27.246 Scrap[52189:207] Calendar created with identifier Identifier: gregorian 2010-03-20 21:02:27.248 Scrap[52189:207] CurrentCalendar: Length:28 Location:1 2010-03-20 21:02:27.249 Scrap[52189:207] GregorianCalendar: Length:7 Location:1 Taking direction from @CarlNorum's experience, I compiled the code snippet as a 10.6 Cocoa application, and I got the following... 2010-03-20 21:05:35.636 ScrapCocoa[52238:a0f] Calendar with 'currentCalendar' Identifier: gregorian 2010-03-20 21:05:35.636 ScrapCocoa[52238:a0f] Calendar created with identifier Identifier: gregorian 2010-03-20 21:05:35.637 ScrapCocoa[52238:a0f] CurrentCalendar: Length:6 Location:1 2010-03-20 21:05:35.638 ScrapCocoa[52238:a0f] GregorianCalendar: Length:7 Location:1 I saw hope in that creating a NSCalendar Instance explicitly as a Gregorian Calendar would lead to better results in my original problem... So I modified that original code NSCalendar *currentCalendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSLog(@"Calendar with 'currentCalendar' Identifier: %@", [currentCalendar calendarIdentifier]); NSCalendar *calendarWithIdentifier = [[[NSCalendar alloc] initWithCalendarIdentifier: NSGregorianCalendar] autorelease]; NSLog(@"Calendar created with identifier Identifier: %@", [calendarWithIdentifier calendarIdentifier]); NSDateComponents *dateComponents = [[[NSDateComponents alloc] init] autorelease]; [dateComponents setYear: 2010]; [dateComponents setDay: 1]; for (int x=1; x<=12; x++) { [dateComponents setMonth: x]; NSDate *date = [currentCalendar dateFromComponents: dateComponents]; NSRange range = [currentCalendar rangeOfUnit: NSWeekCalendarUnit inUnit: NSMonthCalendarUnit forDate: date]; • Problem getting weeks in a month...

    - by AngrySpade
    I am creating a calendar control of sorts... One thing I need to know is how many weeks are there in a Month... So NSCalendar rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate Seems to be exactly what I need... Except I am noticing something that seems off and I can't quite figure out why this is happening... The following code... NSCalendar *calendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSDateComponents *dateComponents = [[NSDateComponents alloc] init]; [dateComponents setYear: 2010]; [dateComponents setDay: 1]; for (int x=1; x<=12; x++) { [dateComponents setMonth: x]; NSDate *date = [calendar dateFromComponents:dateComponents]; NSLog(@"Date: %@", date); NSRange range = [calendar rangeOfUnit: NSWeekCalendarUnit inUnit: NSMonthCalendarUnit forDate:date]; NSLog(@"%d Weeks in Month %d", range.length, [dateComponents month]); } Is returning the following debug messages... 2010-03-14 13:08:10.350 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-01-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.351 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 1 2010-03-14 13:08:10.352 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-02-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.352 Scrap[4256:207] 4 Weeks in Month 2 2010-03-14 13:08:10.353 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-03-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.353 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 3 2010-03-14 13:08:10.354 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-04-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.355 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 4 2010-03-14 13:08:10.356 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-05-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.357 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 5 2010-03-14 13:08:10.358 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-06-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.358 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 6 2010-03-14 13:08:10.359 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-07-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.360 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 7 2010-03-14 13:08:10.361 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-08-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.364 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 8 2010-03-14 13:08:10.364 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-09-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.365 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 9 2010-03-14 13:08:10.366 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-10-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.366 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 10 2010-03-14 13:08:10.367 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-11-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.367 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 11 2010-03-14 13:08:10.369 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-12-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.369 Scrap[4256:207] 52 Weeks in Month 12 I cant quite figure out why I get 52 weeks in month 12. Any clues? Edit on 3/20/2010: Seeing as how I couldnt use rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate to calculate the number of weeks in a month. I decided to figure out a different way of calculating the same value. I figured I should do this in a non-Gregorian localized way, so I attempted to start with getting the number of days in a week, but I got the result of 28 days in a week. So I started writing more code to figure out why... I wanted to make sure that the type of NSCalendar that I was playing with was in fact what I was supposed to be getting... And that led me to finding some differences...   • How to use CellRenderer for GregorianCalendar?

    - by HansDampf
    So I have been trying to use the example from Tutorial and change it so it fits my program. The getColumnValue method returns the object that holds the information that is supposed to be displayed. Is this the way to go or should it rather return the actual String to be displayed. I guess not because that way I would mix the presentation with the data, which I was trying to avoid. public class IssueTableFormat implements TableFormat<Appointment> { public int getColumnCount() { return 6; } public String getColumnName(int column) { if(column == 0) return "Datum"; else if(column == 1) return "Uhrzeit"; else if(column == 2) return "Nummer"; else if(column == 3) return "Name"; else if(column == 4) return "letzte Aktion"; else if(column == 5) return "Kommentar"; throw new IllegalStateException(); } public Object getColumnValue(Appointment issue, int column) { if(column == 0) return issue.getDate(); else if(column == 1) return issue.getDate(); else if(column == 2) return issue.getSample(); else if(column == 3) return issue.getSample(); else if(column == 4) return issue.getHistory(); else if(column == 5) return issue.getComment(); throw new IllegalStateException(); } } The column 0 and 1 contain a GregorianCalendar object, but I want column 0 to show the date and 1 to show the time. So I know using cellRenderers can help here. This is what I tried. public class DateRenderer extends DefaultTableCellRenderer { public DateRenderer() { super(); } public void setValue(Object value) { GregorianCalendar g =(GregorianCalendar) value; value=g.get(GregorianCalendar.HOUR); } } But the cell doesnt show anything, what is wrong here?

  • Quickest way to clone a GregorianCalendar?

    - by wds
    I'm trying to make a deep copy of an object, including a GregorianCalendar instance. I'm always wary of using clone() and it doesn't seem to have been overridden here, so I'm just doing the copy field by field. Ideally, there'd be a copy constructor, which I could use like so: GregorianCalendar newCalendar = new GregorianCalendar(oldCalendar); Unfortunately I can't find any such functionality in the API and am stuck trying to figure out which fields I need to get an exact copy. So, to make a copy of one of these calendars, how would you do it? Am I missing some simple shortcut here?

  • Strange behaviour with GregorianCalendar

    - by Spark
    I just encountered a strange behaviour with the GregorianCalendar class, and I was wondering if I really was doing something bad. This only appends when the initialization date's month has an actualMaximum bigger than the month I'm going to set the calendar to. Here is the example code : // today is 2010/05/31 GregorianCalendar cal = new GregorianCalendar(); cal.set(Calendar.YEAR, 2010); cal.set(Calendar.MONTH, 1); // FEBRUARY cal.set(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH, cal.getActualMaximum(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH)); cal.set(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY, cal.getActualMaximum(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY)); cal.set(Calendar.MINUTE, cal.getActualMaximum(Calendar.MINUTE)); cal.set(Calendar.SECOND, cal.getActualMaximum(Calendar.SECOND)); cal.set(Calendar.MILLISECOND, cal.getActualMaximum(Calendar.MILLISECOND)); return cal.getTime(); // => 2010/03/03, wtf I know the problem is caused by the fact that the calendar initialization date is a 31 day month ( may ), which mess with the month set to february (28 days). The fix is easy ( just set day_of_month to 1 before setting year and month ), but I was wondering is this really was the wanted behaviour. Any thoughts ?

    I am trying to get this to output all the weekdays (MON-FRI) between 5/16/2010 (a sunday) and 5/25/2010 (a tuesday). The correct output should be 17,18,19,20,21,24,25. However, the result im getting is 17,18,19,20,21,17,18,19. The other methods just split up the string the date is in import java.util.*; public class test { public static void main(String[] args) { String startTime = "5/16/2010 11:44 AM"; String endTime = "5/25/2010 12:00 PM"; GregorianCalendar startCal = new GregorianCalendar(); startCal.setLenient(true); String[] start = splitString(startTime); //this sets year, month day startCal.set(Integer.parseInt(start[2]),Integer.parseInt(start[0])-1,Integer.parseInt(start[1])); startCal.set(GregorianCalendar.HOUR, Integer.parseInt(start[3])); startCal.set(GregorianCalendar.MINUTE, Integer.parseInt(start[4])); if (start[5].equalsIgnoreCase("AM")) { startCal.set(GregorianCalendar.AM_PM, 0); } else { startCal.set(GregorianCalendar.AM_PM, 1); } GregorianCalendar endCal = new GregorianCalendar(); endCal.setLenient(true); String[] end = splitString(endTime); endCal.set(Integer.parseInt(end[2]),Integer.parseInt(end[0])-1,Integer.parseInt(end[1])); endCal.set(GregorianCalendar.HOUR, Integer.parseInt(end[3])); endCal.set(GregorianCalendar.MINUTE, Integer.parseInt(end[4])); if (end[5].equalsIgnoreCase("AM")) { endCal.set(GregorianCalendar.AM_PM, 0); } else { endCal.set(GregorianCalendar.AM_PM, 1); } for (int i = startCal.get(Calendar.DATE); i < endCal.get(Calendar.DATE); i++) { startCal.set(Calendar.DATE, i); startCal.set(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK, i); if (startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.MONDAY || startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.TUESDAY || startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.WEDNESDAY || startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.THURSDAY || startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.FRIDAY) { System.out.println("\t" + startCal.get(Calendar.DATE)); } } } private static String[] splitDate(String date) { String[] temp1 = date.split(" "); // split by space String[] temp2 = temp1[0].split("/"); // split by / //5/21/2010 10:00 AM return temp2; // return 5 21 2010 in one array } private static String[] splitTime(String date) { String[] temp1 = date.split(" "); // split by space String[] temp2 = temp1[1].split(":"); // split by : //5/21/2010 10:00 AM String[] temp3 = {temp2[0], temp2[1], temp1[2]}; return temp3; // return 10 00 AM in one array } private static String[] splitString(String date) { String[] temp1 = splitDate(date); String[] temp2 = splitTime(date); String[] temp3 = new String[6]; return dateFill(temp3, temp2[0], temp2[1], temp2[2], temp1[0], temp1[1], temp1[2]); } private static String[] dateFill(String[] date, String hours, String minutes, String ampm, String month, String day, String year) { date[0] = month; date[1] = day; date[2] = year; date[3] = hours; date[4] = minutes; date[5] = ampm; return date; } private String dateString(String[] date) { //return month+" "+day+", "+year+" "+hours+":"+minutes+" "+ampm //5/21/2010 10:00 AM return date[3]+"/"+date[4]+"/ "+date[5]+" "+date[0]+":"+date[1]+" "+date[2]; } }

  • Java calendar day_of_week not working

    - by Raptrex
    I have a for loop starting at startTime going up to endTime and I would like it to print out the date if it is either a monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, or friday. Currently, it is only printing out the endTime date. The other stuff splits the string, which you can ignore. Since 5/16/2010 is a sunday, it should print out 17,18,19,20,21, 24 and 25. However it only prints 25 import java.util.*; public class test { public static void main(String[] args) { String startTime = "5/16/2010 11:44 AM"; String endTime = "5/25/2010 12:00 PM"; GregorianCalendar startCal = new GregorianCalendar(); startCal.setLenient(true); String[] start = splitString(startTime); //this sets year, month day startCal.set(Integer.parseInt(start[2]),Integer.parseInt(start[0])-1,Integer.parseInt(start[1])); startCal.set(GregorianCalendar.HOUR, Integer.parseInt(start[3])); startCal.set(GregorianCalendar.MINUTE, Integer.parseInt(start[4])); if (start[5].equalsIgnoreCase("AM")) { startCal.set(GregorianCalendar.AM_PM, 0); } else { startCal.set(GregorianCalendar.AM_PM, 1); } GregorianCalendar endCal = new GregorianCalendar(); endCal.setLenient(true); String[] end = splitString(endTime); endCal.set(Integer.parseInt(end[2]),Integer.parseInt(end[0])-1,Integer.parseInt(end[1])); endCal.set(GregorianCalendar.HOUR, Integer.parseInt(end[3])); endCal.set(GregorianCalendar.MINUTE, Integer.parseInt(end[4])); if (end[5].equalsIgnoreCase("AM")) { endCal.set(GregorianCalendar.AM_PM, 0); } else { endCal.set(GregorianCalendar.AM_PM, 1); } for (int i = startCal.get(Calendar.DATE); i < endCal.get(Calendar.DATE); i++) { if (startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.MONDAY || startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.TUESDAY || startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.WEDNESDAY || startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.THURSDAY || startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.FRIDAY) { startCal.set(Calendar.DATE, i); System.out.println(startCal.get(Calendar.DATE)); } } } private static String[] splitDate(String date) { String[] temp1 = date.split(" "); // split by space String[] temp2 = temp1[0].split("/"); // split by / //5/21/2010 10:00 AM return temp2; // return 5 21 2010 in one array } private static String[] splitTime(String date) { String[] temp1 = date.split(" "); // split by space String[] temp2 = temp1[1].split(":"); // split by : //5/21/2010 10:00 AM String[] temp3 = {temp2[0], temp2[1], temp1[2]}; return temp3; // return 10 00 AM in one array } private static String[] splitString(String date) { String[] temp1 = splitDate(date); String[] temp2 = splitTime(date); String[] temp3 = new String[6]; return dateFill(temp3, temp2[0], temp2[1], temp2[2], temp1[0], temp1[1], temp1[2]); } private static String[] dateFill(String[] date, String hours, String minutes, String ampm, String month, String day, String year) { date[0] = month; date[1] = day; date[2] = year; date[3] = hours; date[4] = minutes; date[5] = ampm; return date; } private String dateString(String[] date) { //return month+" "+day+", "+year+" "+hours+":"+minutes+" "+ampm //5/21/2010 10:00 AM return date[3]+"/"+date[4]+"/ "+date[5]+" "+date[0]+":"+date[1]+" "+date[2]; } }

  • java gregorian calendar timer

    I have this java program which calculates the time that the person took to respond to the confirm dialog box. But it seems that both time1 and time 2 gets the same value. What have I done wrong here: import javax.swing.JOptionPane; import java.util.*; public class DialogTimer{ public static void main(String args[]){ int time1, time2, milli1, milli2, sec1, sec2, timeDifference; final int MILLISECSINSECOND =1000; JOptionPane.showConfirmDialog(null, "Is stealing ever justified? • add more than 30 days with Calendar's add() method in Java

    - by Haes
    Hi, I'm not quite sure what field to use when adding more than 30 days to a Java Calendar object. Is there any difference in between Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH and Calendar.DAY_OF_YEAR? Example: GregorianCalendar d = new GregorianCalendar(); d.add(Calendar.DAY_OF_YEAR, 90); vs GregorianCalendar d = new GregorianCalendar(); d.add(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH, 90); Thanks.

  • Concurrency and Calendar classes

    - by fbielejec
    I have a thread (class implementing runnable, called AnalyzeTree) organised around a hash map (ConcurrentMap slicesMap). The class goes through the data (called trees here) in the large text file and parses the geographical coordinates from it to the HashMap. The idea is to process one tree at a time and add or grow the values according to the key (which is just a Double value representing time). The relevant part of code looks like this: // grow map entry if key exists if (slicesMap.containsKey(sliceTime)) { double[] imputedLocation = imputeValue( location, parentLocation, sliceHeight, nodeHeight, parentHeight, rate, useTrueNoise, currentTreeNormalization, precisionArray); slicesMap.get(sliceTime).add( new Coordinates(imputedLocation[1], imputedLocation[0], 0.0)); // start new entry if no such key in the map } else { List<Coordinates> coords = new ArrayList<Coordinates>(); double[] imputedLocation = imputeValue( location, parentLocation, sliceHeight, nodeHeight, parentHeight, rate, useTrueNoise, currentTreeNormalization, precisionArray); coords.add(new Coordinates(imputedLocation[1], imputedLocation[0], 0.0)); slicesMap.putIfAbsent(sliceTime, coords); // slicesMap.put(sliceTime, coords); }// END: key check And the class is called like this (executor is ExecutorService executor = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(NTHREDS) ): mrsd = new SpreadDate(mrsdString); int readTrees = 1; while (treesImporter.hasTree()) { currentTree = (RootedTree) treesImporter.importNextTree(); executor.submit(new AnalyzeTree(currentTree, precisionString, coordinatesName, rateString, numberOfIntervals, treeRootHeight, timescaler, mrsd, slicesMap, useTrueNoise)); // new AnalyzeTree(currentTree, precisionString, // coordinatesName, rateString, numberOfIntervals, // treeRootHeight, timescaler, mrsd, slicesMap, // useTrueNoise).run(); readTrees++; }// END: while has trees Now this is running into troubles when executed in parallel (the commented part running sequentially is fine), I thought it might throw a ConcurrentModificationException, but apparently the problem is in mrsd (instance of SpreadDate object, which is simply a class for date related calculations). The SpreadDate class looks like this: public class SpreadDate { private Calendar cal; private SimpleDateFormat formatter; private Date stringdate; public SpreadDate(String date) throws ParseException { // if no era specified assume current era String line[] = date.split(" "); if (line.length == 1) { StringBuilder properDateStringBuilder = new StringBuilder(); date = properDateStringBuilder.append(date).append(" AD") .toString(); } formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd G", Locale.US); stringdate = formatter.parse(date); cal = Calendar.getInstance(); } public long plus(int days) { cal.setTime(stringdate); cal.add(Calendar.DATE, days); return cal.getTimeInMillis(); }// END: plus public long minus(int days) { cal.setTime(stringdate); cal.add(Calendar.DATE, -days); //line 39 return cal.getTimeInMillis(); }// END: minus public long getTime() { cal.setTime(stringdate); return cal.getTimeInMillis(); }// END: getDate } And the stack trace from when exception is thrown: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 58 at sun.util.calendar.BaseCalendar.getCalendarDateFromFixedDate(BaseCalendar.java:454) at java.util.GregorianCalendar.computeFields(GregorianCalendar.java:2098) at java.util.GregorianCalendar.computeFields(GregorianCalendar.java:2013) at java.util.Calendar.setTimeInMillis(Calendar.java:1126) at java.util.GregorianCalendar.add(GregorianCalendar.java:1020) at utils.SpreadDate.minus(SpreadDate.java:39) at templates.AnalyzeTree.run(AnalyzeTree.java:88) at java.util.concurrent.Executors$RunnableAdapter.call(Executors.java:471) at java.util.concurrent.FutureTask$Sync.innerRun(FutureTask.java:334) at java.util.concurrent.FutureTask.run(FutureTask.java:166) at java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor.runWorker(ThreadPoolExecutor.java:1110) at java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor$Worker.run(ThreadPoolExecutor.java:603) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:636) If a move the part initializing mrsd to the AnalyzeTree class it runs without any problems - however it is not very memory efficient to initialize class each time this thread is running, hence my concerns. How can it be remedied?

  • understand SimpleTimeZone and DST Test

    - by Cygnusx1
    I Have an issue with the use of SimpleTimeZone class in Java. First, the JavaDoc is nice but not quite easy to understand in regards of the start and end Rules. But with the help of some example found on the web, i managed to get it right (i still don't understand why 8 represents the second week of a month in day_of_month!!! but whatever) Now i have written a simple Junit test to validate what i understand: package test; import static org.junit.Assert.assertEquals; import java.sql.Timestamp; import java.util.Calendar; import java.util.GregorianCalendar; import java.util.SimpleTimeZone; import org.apache.log4j.Logger; import org.junit.Test; public class SimpleTimeZoneTest { Logger log = Logger.getLogger(SimpleTimeZoneTest.class); @Test public void testTimeZoneWithDST() throws Exception { Calendar testDateEndOut = new GregorianCalendar(2012, Calendar.NOVEMBER, 4, 01, 59, 59); Calendar testDateEndIn = new GregorianCalendar(2012, Calendar.NOVEMBER, 4, 02, 00, 00); Calendar testDateStartOut = new GregorianCalendar(2012, Calendar.MARCH, 11, 01, 59, 59); Calendar testDateStartIn = new GregorianCalendar(2012, Calendar.MARCH, 11, 02, 00, 00); SimpleTimeZone est = new SimpleTimeZone(-5 * 60 * 60 * 1000, "EST"); est.setStartRule(Calendar.MARCH, 8, -Calendar.SUNDAY, 2 * 60 * 60 * 1000); est.setEndRule(Calendar.NOVEMBER, 1, Calendar.SUNDAY, 2 * 60 * 60 * 1000); Calendar theCal = new GregorianCalendar(est); theCal.setTimeInMillis(testDateEndOut.getTimeInMillis()); log.info(" Cal date = " + new Timestamp(theCal.getTimeInMillis()) + " : " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDisplayName()); log.info(" Cal use DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().useDaylightTime()); log.info(" Cal In DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); log.info("offset = " + theCal.getTimeZone().getOffset(theCal.getTimeInMillis())); log.info("DTS offset= " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDSTSavings()); assertEquals("End date Should be In DST", true, theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); theCal.setTimeInMillis(testDateEndIn.getTimeInMillis()); log.info(" Cal date = " + new Timestamp(theCal.getTimeInMillis()) + " : " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDisplayName()); log.info(" Cal use DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().useDaylightTime()); log.info(" Cal In DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); log.info("offset = " + theCal.getTimeZone().getOffset(theCal.getTimeInMillis())); log.info("DTS offset= " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDSTSavings()); assertEquals("End date Should be Out DST", false, theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); theCal.setTimeInMillis(testDateStartIn.getTimeInMillis()); log.info(" Cal date = " + new Timestamp(theCal.getTimeInMillis()) + " : " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDisplayName()); log.info(" Cal use DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().useDaylightTime()); log.info(" Cal In DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); log.info("offset = " + theCal.getTimeZone().getOffset(theCal.getTimeInMillis())); log.info("DTS offset= " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDSTSavings()); assertEquals("Start date Should be in DST", true, theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); theCal.setTimeInMillis(testDateStartOut.getTimeInMillis()); log.info(" Cal date = " + new Timestamp(theCal.getTimeInMillis()) + " : " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDisplayName()); log.info(" Cal use DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().useDaylightTime()); log.info(" Cal In DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); log.info("offset = " + theCal.getTimeZone().getOffset(theCal.getTimeInMillis())); log.info("DTS offset= " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDSTSavings()); assertEquals("Start date Should be Out DST", false, theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); } } Ok, i want to test the date limits to see if the inDaylightTime return the right thing! So, my rules are : DST start the second sunday of March at 2am DST end the first sunday of november at 2am In 2012 (now) this give us the march 11 at 2am and November 4 at 2am You can see my test dates are set properly!!! Well here is the output of my test run: 2012-11-01 18:22:44,344 INFO [test.SimpleTimeZoneTest] - < Cal date = 2012-11-04 01:59:59.0 : Eastern Standard Time> 2012-11-01 18:22:44,345 INFO [test.SimpleTimeZoneTest] - < Cal use DST = true> 2012-11-01 18:22:44,345 INFO [test.SimpleTimeZoneTest] - < Cal In DST = false> 2012-11-01 18:22:44,345 INFO [test.SimpleTimeZoneTest] - <offset = -18000000> 2012-11-01 18:22:44,345 INFO [test.SimpleTimeZoneTest] - <DTS offset= 3600000> My first assert just fails and tell me that 2012-11-04 01:59:59 is not inDST... !!!!??? If i put 2012-11-04 00:59:59, the test pass! This 1 hour gap just puzzle me... can anyone explain this behavior? Oh, btw, if anyone could elaborate on the : est.setStartRule(Calendar.MARCH, 8, -Calendar.SUNDAY, 2 * 60 * 60 * 1000); Why 8 means second week of march... and the -SUNDAY. I can't figure out this thing on a real calendar example!!! Thanks

  • Weird behaviour of Calendar and DateFormat

    - by Nejc
    I encountered really strange behaviour when constructing a Calendar object and then formating it in a particular style. Let the code do the talking: public class Test { public static void main(String[] args) { SimpleDateFormat frmt = new SimpleDateFormat(); frmt.applyPattern("yyyy-MM-dd"); GregorianCalendar date = new GregorianCalendar(2012,1,1); System.out.println(frmt.format(date.getTime())); } } The output is: 2012-02-01 The expected output is of course: 2012-01-01 What am I doing wrong?

  • iPhone Crash Report

    - by skywalker168
    My iPhone app is crashing for certain users in UK. I tried using UK timezone and their region format but couldn't reproduce the crash on my iPhone or emulator. Eventually got a crash report and I was able to symbolicate it. However, I have a hard time understanding the results. It appears thread 0 crashed in a system library. The only call from my app is main.m. Thread 4 has something familiar. It was at: My App 0x00004cca -[TocTableController parser:didEndElement:namespaceURI:qualifiedName:] (TocTableController.m:1369) Code is: NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[[NSDateFormatter alloc] init] autorelease]; It crashed doing alloc/init? Out of memory, only in UK? Any one has idea what might be cause? Thanks in advance! I have a class like this : import java.io.*; import java.util.*; public class Contact_Info_Entry implements Serializable { public static final long serialVersionUID=26362862L; String Contact_Id,First_Name="",Last_Name="",Company_Name="",Branch_Name="",Address_1="",Address_2="",City="",State="",Zip="",Country="",E_Mail="",Phone; int I_1,I_2; float F_1,F_2; boolean B_1,B_2; GregorianCalendar Date_1, Date_2; Vector<String> A_Vector=new Vector<String>(); public Contact_Info_Entry() { } ...... } If I want to translate it to a class for JDO, do I need to define each field by it self or can I do a group at a time ? For instance do I have to make it like this : @PersistenceCapable(identityType=IdentityType.APPLICATION) public class Contact_Info_Entry implements Serializable { @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy=IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) private Long id; @Persistent public static final long serialVersionUID=26362862L; @Persistent String Contact_Id; @Persistent String First_Name; @Persistent String Last_Name; ...... @Persistent int I_1; @Persistent int I_2; ... @Persistent float F_1; ... @Persistent boolean B_1; @Persistent boolean B_2; @Persistent GregorianCalendar Date_1; ... @Persistent Vector<String> A_Vector=new Vector<String>(); public Contact_Info_Entry() { } ...... } Or can I do a group at a time like this : @PersistenceCapable(identityType=IdentityType.APPLICATION) public class Contact_Info_Entry implements Serializable { @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy=IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) private Long id; @Persistent public static final long serialVersionUID=26362862L; @Persistent String Contact_Id,First_Name,Last_Name=""; ...... @Persistent int I_1=0,I_2=1; ... @Persistent float F_1; ... @Persistent boolean B_1,B_2; @Persistent GregorianCalendar Date_1; ... @Persistent Vector<String> A_Vector=new Vector<String>(); public Contact_Info_Entry() { } ...... } Or can I skip the "@Persistent" all together like this : import java.io.*; import java.util.*; @PersistenceCapable(identityType=IdentityType.APPLICATION) public class Contact_Info_Entry implements Serializable { public static final long serialVersionUID=26362862L; String Contact_Id,First_Name="",Last_Name="",Company_Name="",Branch_Name="",Address_1="",Address_2="",City="",State="",Zip="",Country="", E_Mail="",Phone; int I_1,I_2; float F_1,F_2; boolean B_1,B_2; GregorianCalendar Date_1, Date_2; Vector<String> A_Vector=new Vector<String>(); public Contact_Info_Entry() { } ...... } Which are correct ? • How do I get date form week, working also with 53-week years? c#

    - by Oskar Kjellin
    Hey, I have made a function to cound the weeks in a year, and that works fine. The problem is that I need a method to get the mondaydate of the week. This is a swedish calendar. The code below works well for years that have 52 weeks, but some years(like 2009) has 53 weeks. Then I got a date from januari as the mondaydate(cant be right). So please help me to get it to work for all years. What I probably could do is check if the year has 53 weeks and then do some checks but I'd like it to go smooth without special checks. Here's what I've come up with: public static DateTime GetDateFromWeek(int year, int week) { //First day of the year DateTime d = new DateTime(year, 1, 1); GregorianCalendar calendar = new GregorianCalendar(GregorianCalendarTypes.MiddleEastFrench); d = calendar.AddWeeks(d, week); d = d.AddDays(1 - (double)d.DayOfWeek); return d; }

  • JAVA: ICEFACES: component <ice:selectInputDate> mapped on a "java.util.Calendar" field

    - by blummihaela
    Does anybody knows how can component <ice:selectInputDate> be mapped on a java.util.Calendar field, not java.util.Date? I am using from IceFaces version 1.8.2, the component <ice:selectInputDate>. This component requires to be bound with a java.util.Date proeprty. For example, value="#{bean.myDate}", the myDate field must be of type java.util.Date. But I need my date field to be of type java.util.Calendar. My trials: I have tried to use standard converter or a custom one: Standard one: <f:convertDateTime pattern="dd/MM/yyyy" /> it formats correct the value in GUI, but when setting it on the property bean.myDate of type Calendar I get following error message: [5/3/10 12:09:18:398 EEST] 00000021 lifecycle I WARNING: FacesMessage(s) have been enqueued, but may not have been displayed. sourceId=j_id12:j_id189:myDate[severity=(ERROR 2), summary=(/WEB-INF/xhtml............file.xhtml @507,51 value="#{bean.myDate}": Can't set property 'myDate' on class 'bean' to value '5/11/10 3:00 AM'.), detail=(/WEB-INF/xhtml........file.xhtml @507,51 value="#{bean.myDate}": Can't set property 'myDate' on class '...bean...' to value '5/11/10 3:00 AM'.)] Custom one: <f:converter converterId="c2d"/> getAsObject - returns the java.util.Calendar object out of the submitted String. getAsString - receives an Object, and returns the String formatted. NOTE: this method was hacked so instead of expecting java.util.Calendar, to be complementary with getAsObject method. Instead, the hacked method getAsString, expects an java.util.Date, provided as parameter (by ice:selectInputDate) and returns the String formatted. But still an error message occurs: [5/3/10 12:55:34:299 EEST] 0000001f D2DFaceletVie E com.icesoft.faces.facelets.D2DFaceletViewHandler renderResponse Problem in renderResponse: java.util.GregorianCalendar incompatible with java.util.Date java.lang.ClassCastException: java.util.GregorianCalendar incompatible with java.util.Date at com.icesoft.faces.component.selectinputdate.SelectInputDate.getTextToRender(SelectInputDate.java:252) Any hint is very useful! Thanks, Mihaela

  • JAVA - Create variable names using a loop?

    - by SeerUK
    Hi, first time poster, long time reader so be gentle with me :) See the following code which works to generate me timestamps for the beginning and end of every month in a financial year. int year = 2010; // Financial year runs from Sept-Aug so earlyMonths are those where year = FY-1 and lateMonths are those where year = FY int[] earlyMonths = {8, 9, 10, 11}; // Sept to Dec int earlyYear = year -1; for (int i : earlyMonths) { month = i; Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(); cal.clear(); cal.set(earlyYear,month,1,0,0,0); Long start = cal.getTimeInMillis(); cal.clear(); cal.set(earlyYear,month,1); lastDayofMonth = cal.getActualMaximum(GregorianCalendar.DAY_OF_MONTH); cal.set(earlyYear,month,lastDayofMonth,23,59,59); Long end = cal.getTimeInMillis(); } int[] lateMonths = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7}; // Jan to Aug for (int i : lateMonths) { month = i; Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(); cal.clear(); cal.set(year,month,1,0,0,0); Long start = cal.getTimeInMillis(); cal.clear(); cal.set(year,month,1); lastDayofMonth = cal.getActualMaximum(GregorianCalendar.DAY_OF_MONTH); cal.set(year,month,lastDayofMonth,23,59,59); Long end = cal.getTimeInMillis(); } So far so good, but in order to use these results I need these timestamps to be output to variables named by month (to be used in a prepared statement later in the code. e.g. SeptStart = sometimestamp, SeptEnd = some timestamp etc etc. I don't know if it is possible to declare new variables based on the results of each loop. Any ideas?

  • Get Last Friday of Month in Java

    - by Nick Klauer
    I am working on a project where the requirement is to have a date calculated as being the last Friday of a given month. I think I have a solution that only uses standard Java, but I was wondering if anyone knew of anything more concise or efficient. Below is what I tested with for this year: for (int month = 0; month < 13; month++) { GregorianCalendar d = new GregorianCalendar(); d.set(d.MONTH, month); System.out.println("Last Week of Month in " + d.getDisplayName(d.MONTH, Calendar.LONG, Locale.ENGLISH) + ": " + d.getLeastMaximum(d.WEEK_OF_MONTH)); d.set(d.DAY_OF_WEEK, d.FRIDAY); d.set(d.WEEK_OF_MONTH, d.getActualMaximum(d.WEEK_OF_MONTH)); while (d.get(d.MONTH) > month || d.get(d.MONTH) < month) { d.add(d.WEEK_OF_MONTH, -1); } Date dt = d.getTime(); System.out.println("Last Friday of Last Week in " + d.getDisplayName(d.MONTH, Calendar.LONG, Locale.ENGLISH) + ": " + dt.toString()); }
