• How to make gVim transparent on Ubuntu 10.10?

  I have a .gvimrc file that works fine on OS X 10.6, but won't work on Ubuntu. It contains a line that reads set transparency=15, and when i run gVim it reports: Error detected while processing /home/user/.gvimrc: line 25: E518: Unknown option: transparency=15 Any ideas to make gVim transparent by default? • GVim Stop at end of line with arrows

  When using the arrow keys in Vim on Linux, they act the same way as h and l , stopping when the end of a line is reached. GVim on Windows doesn't do this, instead allowing the arrow keys continue past the end (or beginning) of a line and on to the next line. Is there any way to change the arrow key behaviour and cause them to stop at the end of a line like the character navigation keys? NOTE: I am not looking for a way to get to the beginning or end of a line, I realize that 0 and $ do this.

• VIM disable highlighting upon search deletion

  I recently learned a new shortcut in VIM that I find extremely useful. d/search_text Which will delete everything up to, but not including, "search_text", from the current position. However, the thing that is annoying is that this will highlight all occurrences of "search_text" after performing the operation. Is there any way that I could disable the highlight feature when performing this operation?

• Ubuntu 10.04 problems - GVIM and Sound

  Hey Guys ! Well, i have 2 problems .. not exactly problems, but one is a question, and the other is a problem . QUESTION I have installed gVim on my laptop and now i want to install plugins and customize my vimrc . Where is the 'plugin' , 'color' , 'docs' directory located in order for me to drop those files in ? And where do i need to put the .vimrc file for gVim to be able to recogonize it ? PROBLEM Sound isn't working. I dont know whats the problem @ all. It just doesnt play . And NO its not on mute. i Checked. If any other input is required from the terminal , please ask for it. I'm kinda a n00b in all this. Please help. Thanks in advance

• Best way to organize filetype settings in .vim and .vimrc?

  I'm going through my vim dotfiles to tidy them up. I've noticed that through time I've added various filetype specific settings in various inconsistent ways. Let's suppose I'm customizing for Python: au BufRead,BufNewfFile *.py (do something). I don't like this because some Python files might not have the .py termination. au FileType python (do something). This seems a better option because it doesn't depend on the file having the .py termination. The drawback is that Vim doesn't know about some filetypes. I can make Vim recognize additional filetypes, but I also have various inconsistent ways of doing it: a .vim/filetype.vim file, another in .vim/after/filetype.vim and various set filetype commands in .vimrc. Add a .vim/ftplugin/python.vim file with filetype specific settings. I understand the $VIMRUNTIME/ftplugin/python.vim can override whatever settings I make here. One problem is that I'm not sure how this interacts with .vim/filetype.vim and .vim/after/filetype.vim. Add a .vim/after/ftplugin/python.vim. I understand that this is loaded after $VIMRUNTIME/ftplugin/python.vim so it can overwrite settings from there. As in the previous method I'm not sure how it interacts with the filetype.vim files. So I have at least four ways of doing this, not mentioning syntax files and filetype-specific plugins. It seems to me the best way to do this is to put my filetype specific settings in after/ftplugin so they don't get overwritten, and filetypes.vim in after for the same reason. However, before I proceed I'd like to ask if anyone has suggestions about the best way to deal with filetype specific settings.

• Python not Working in Vim

  I have a new install of VIM from the automatic windows installer: gvim73_46.exe I have Python 2.7 (32 bit) installed. If I open gvim, and type: :set python? I get E518: Unknown option. If I try typing: :python 'hello' Vim crashes. What could be wrong? Here are the contents of :version in case they are helpful, although python is installed, and it is using Python 2.7. I also checked, and C:\Windows\System32\python27.dll is where it should be... I am really lost here. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going wrong? • Vim digraphs is not working

  I've tried to input digraphs in Vim (without vi compatibility), and unfortunately I can't. After using ControlKP * it should input big greek pi letter. I've also tried using PBS * with :set digraph, but no success either.   Hi there, I'm using macvim and I love it. I also happen to really like the default font. My question is: How do I change the font size in my .gvimrc? I want it to be bigger, without changing the font from the default. All the examples I've seen specify a font then a ':' then the size. So how do I just change the size not the font itself? Thanks!

• Change default settings in MacVim

  I want to do some changes in MacVim to suit my needs. I'm new in it, so stick with me. The basic changes I want to do is to start the program with the following settings: Line numbers activated Top toolbar deactivated Auto-indenting activated I found out that you can write set lines=xx columns=yy to the /Users/USERNAME/.gvimrc file and it will change the default window width-height Also, you can change the color scheme with :colorscheme scheme in that file, too, but I don't know how to change the other settings.
