  • error when I use GWT RPC

    - by Sebe
Hello everyone... I have a problem with Eclipse when I use an RPC.. If I use a single method call it's all in the right direction but if I add a new method to handle the server I get the following error: com.google.gwt.core.client.JavaScriptException: (null): null at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.BrowserChannelServer.invokeJavascript(BrowserChannelServer.java:237) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.ModuleSpaceOOPHM.doInvoke(ModuleSpaceOOPHM.java:126) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.ModuleSpace.invokeNative(ModuleSpace.java:561) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.ModuleSpace.invokeNativeBoolean(ModuleSpace.java:184) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.JavaScriptHost.invokeNativeBoolean(JavaScriptHost.java:35) at com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.impl.RpcStatsContext.isStatsAvailable(RpcStatsContext.java) at com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.impl.RequestCallbackAdapter.onResponseReceived(RequestCallbackAdapter.java:221) at com.google.gwt.http.client.Request.fireOnResponseReceived(Request.java:287) at com.google.gwt.http.client.RequestBuilder$1.onReadyStateChange(RequestBuilder.java:395) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:597) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.MethodAdaptor.invoke(MethodAdaptor.java:103) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.MethodDispatch.invoke(MethodDispatch.java:71) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.OophmSessionHandler.invoke(OophmSessionHandler.java:157) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.BrowserChannelServer.reactToMessagesWhileWaitingForReturn(BrowserChannelServer.java:326) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.BrowserChannelServer.invokeJavascript(BrowserChannelServer.java:207) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.ModuleSpaceOOPHM.doInvoke(ModuleSpaceOOPHM.java:126) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.ModuleSpace.invokeNative(ModuleSpace.java:561) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.ModuleSpace.invokeNativeObject(ModuleSpace.java:269) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.JavaScriptHost.invokeNativeObject(JavaScriptHost.java:91) at com.google.gwt.core.client.impl.Impl.apply(Impl.java) at com.google.gwt.core.client.impl.Impl.entry0(Impl.java:214) at sun.reflect.GeneratedMethodAccessor13.invoke(Unknown Source) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:597) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.MethodAdaptor.invoke(MethodAdaptor.java:103) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.MethodDispatch.invoke(MethodDispatch.java:71) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.OophmSessionHandler.invoke(OophmSessionHandler.java:157) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.BrowserChannelServer.reactToMessages(BrowserChannelServer.java:281) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.BrowserChannelServer.processConnection(BrowserChannelServer.java:531) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.BrowserChannelServer.run(BrowserChannelServer.java:352) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) Can I have more services in an asynchronous call right? • Windows RPC vs XML-RPC

    - by Y.Z
Is there any benchmark about encoding/decoding certain common typed data in Microsoft RPC NDR engine (DCE 1.1) in comparison with that in XML-RPC-C/C++ in the de-facto C/C++ implementation in XML-RPC? Actually I have to choose between Windows RPC and XML-RPC-C/C++ to implement my own common object infrastructure for High Performance Computing on Windows. Any recommandation about which with regard to their performance? Thank you. Best Regards, Yang

  • GWT Javascript Exception in Hosted Mode: Result of expression 'doc.getBoxObjectFor' [undefined] is

    - by holmes
Anyone ever seen this exception? I'm running in hosted mode on GWT 1.6.4 on a mac. I'm using the AutoSuggest and it's throwing this exception trying to show the popup. It works fine in compiled mode, but obviously hosted mode is rather important. • How To: UiBinder + GWT MVP + multiple independent display areas

    - by Prt Yz
    I am using GWT MVP and UiBinder to create an app with a DockLayoutPanel. I want the north and south docks to be static, containing buttons and links. I want to have dynamic views in the center and two different areas of the east dock. As these dynamic areas should be independent of each other, I am setting up different ActivityMapper and ActivityManager's for each dynamic display area; center, east-top, and east-bottom. How can I independently initialize these 3 different display areas when the application is loaded? How can I switch from one Activity to another in one display area without affecting the other areas? When I use the the PlaceController's goTo to switch from one Place to another in one area, the other area's Activity is stopped. Mayday, please help, mayday! The following is some of my code: AppViewImpl.ui.xml <g:DockLayoutPanel styleName="{style.dockPanel}" unit="PX" width="975px" height="100%"> <!-- DOCK PANEL EAST --> <g:east size="220"> <g:LayoutPanel styleName="{style.eastPanel}"> <g:layer left="0px" width="220px" top="0px" height="105px"> <g:SimpleLayoutPanel ui:field="topRightPanel"/> </g:layer> <g:layer left="0px" width="220px" top="110px" height="340px"> <g:InlineLabel styleName="{style.label}" text="ANOTHER DISPLAY AREA"/> </g:layer> </g:LayoutPanel> </g:east> <!-- DOCK PANEL NORTH --> <g:north size="110"> <g:LayoutPanel styleName="{style.northPanel}"> <g:layer left="0px" width="755px" top="0px" height="105px"> <g:InlineLabel styleName="{style.label}" text="NORTH PANEL"/> </g:layer> </g:LayoutPanel> </g:north> <!-- DOCK PANEL SOUTH --> <g:south size="20"> <g:LayoutPanel styleName="{style.southPanel}"> <g:layer left="0px" width="755px" top="0px" height="20px"> <g:InlineLabel styleName="{style.label}" text="SOUTH PANEL"/> </g:layer> </g:LayoutPanel> </g:south> <!-- DOCK PANEL CENTER --> <g:center> <g:SimpleLayoutPanel ui:field="mainPanel" /> </g:center> </g:DockLayoutPanel> MyModule.java public class MyModule implements EntryPoint { private Place defaultPlace = new DefaultPlace(""); public void onModuleLoad() { // Create ClientFactory using deferred binding so we can replace with // different impls in gwt.xml ClientFactory clientFactory = GWT.create(ClientFactory.class); EventBus eventBus = clientFactory.getEventBus(); PlaceController placeController = clientFactory.getPlaceController(); // Start ActivityManager for the main widget with our ActivityMapper ActivityMapper topRightActivityMapper = new TopRightActivityMapper(clientFactory); ActivityManager topRightActivityManager = new ActivityManager(topRightActivityMapper, eventBus); topRightActivityManager.setDisplay(clientFactory.getAppView().getTopRightPanel()); // Start ActivityManager for the main widget with our ActivityMapper ActivityMapper mainActivityMapper = new AppActivityMapper(clientFactory); ActivityManager mainActivityManager = new ActivityManager(mainActivityMapper, eventBus); mainActivityManager.setDisplay(clientFactory.getAppView().getMainPanel()); // Start PlaceHistoryHandler with our PlaceHistoryMapper AppPlaceHistoryMapper historyMapper = GWT .create(AppPlaceHistoryMapper.class); PlaceHistoryHandler historyHandler = new PlaceHistoryHandler(historyMapper); historyHandler.register(placeController, eventBus, defaultPlace); RootLayoutPanel.get().add(clientFactory.getAppView()); // Goes to place represented on URL or default place historyHandler.handleCurrentHistory(); new AppController(clientFactory); } } AppController.java public class AppController implements AppView.Presenter { private ClientFactory clientFactory; AppController(ClientFactory clientFactory){ this.clientFactory = clientFactory; goTo(new TopRightAPlace("")); } @Override public void goTo(Place place) { clientFactory.getPlaceController().goTo(place); } } TopRightAViewImpl.java public class TopRightAViewImpl extends Composite implements TopRightAView { interface Binder extends UiBinder<Widget, TopRightAViewImpl> { } private static final Binder binder = GWT.create(Binder.class); private Presenter listener; @UiField Button button; public TopRightAViewImpl() { initWidget(binder.createAndBindUi(this)); } @Override public void setName(String name) { button.setHTML(name); } @Override public void setPresenter(Presenter listener) { this.listener = listener; } @UiHandler("button") void onButtonClick(ClickEvent event) { listener.goTo(some other place); } }

  • GWT Dynamic loading using GWT.create() with String literals instead of Class literals

    - by Sathish
GWT.create() is the reflection equivalent in GWT, But it take only class literals, not fully qualified String for the Class name. How do i dynamically create classes with Strings using GWT.create()? Its not possible according to many GWT forum posts but how is it being done in frameworks like Rocket-GWT (http://code.google.com/p/rocket-gwt/wiki/Ioc) and Gwittir (http://code.google.com/p/gwittir/wiki/Introspection)

  • GWT - occasional com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.SerializationException

Hello we are haunted by occasional occurences of exceptions such as: com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.SerializationException: Type 'xxx' was not assignable to 'com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.IsSerializable' and did not have a custom field serializer. For security purposes, this type will not be serialized.: instance = xxx at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.impl.ServerSerializationStreamWriter.serialize(ServerSerializationStreamWriter.java:610) at com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.impl.AbstractSerializationStreamWriter.writeObject(AbstractSerializationStreamWriter.java:129) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.impl.ServerSerializationStreamWriter$ValueWriter$8.write(ServerSerializationStreamWriter.java:152) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.impl.ServerSerializationStreamWriter.serializeValue(ServerSerializationStreamWriter.java:534) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RPC.encodeResponse(RPC.java:609) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RPC.encodeResponseForSuccess(RPC.java:467) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RPC.invokeAndEncodeResponse(RPC.java:564) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RemoteServiceServlet.processCall(RemoteServiceServlet.java:188) at de.softconex.travicemanager.server.TraviceManagerServiceImpl.processCall(TraviceManagerServiceImpl.java:615) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RemoteServiceServlet.processPost(RemoteServiceServlet.java:224) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.AbstractRemoteServiceServlet.doPost(AbstractRemoteServiceServlet.java:62) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:710) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:803) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.internalDoFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:290) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.doFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:206) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.filters.ReplyHeaderFilter.doFilter(ReplyHeaderFilter.java:96) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.internalDoFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:235) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.doFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:206) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapperValve.invoke(StandardWrapperValve.java:230) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContextValve.invoke(StandardContextValve.java:175) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.security.SecurityAssociationValve.invoke(SecurityAssociationValve.java:179) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.security.JaccContextValve.invoke(JaccContextValve.java:84) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardHostValve.invoke(StandardHostValve.java:127) at org.apache.catalina.valves.ErrorReportValve.invoke(ErrorReportValve.java:102) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.service.jca.CachedConnectionValve.invoke(CachedConnectionValve.java:157) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardEngineValve.invoke(StandardEngineValve.java:109) at org.apache.catalina.connector.CoyoteAdapter.service(CoyoteAdapter.java:262) at org.apache.coyote.ajp.AjpAprProcessor.process(AjpAprProcessor.java:419) at org.apache.coyote.ajp.AjpAprProtocol$AjpConnectionHandler.process(AjpAprProtocol.java:378) at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.AprEndpoint$Worker.run(AprEndpoint.java:1508) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) The application is normally running fine. The indicated class implements Serializable (the whole object graph). So far the only patterns / observations are: we seem to have the issue only when the application is used inside an iframe the problem seems to happen when a new version of the application has been deployed running firefox in privacy mode (disabling all caches etc.) doesn't fix the problem Any ideas? • JSON-RPC and Json-rpc service discovery specifications

    - by Artyom
Hello, I'm going to implement JSON-PRC web service. I need specifications for this. So far I had found only one resource that can be called as real specifications: JSON-RPC 1.0 http://json-rpc.org/wiki/specification Proposal of JSON-PRC 2.0: http://groups.google.com/group/json-rpc/web/json-rpc-2-0 (why is it on google groups?) However I've seen that JavaScript frameworks like Dojo actively use JSON-RPC SMD Service Mapping Description proposal But it requires JSON Schema specifications, but it redirects to incorrect URL as reference. So far I had found following: http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-zyp-json-schema-02 And it is still draft... Can anybody point me to some actual specifications... At least something official updated? Because it looks like that implementing JSON-RPC 1.0 as is may be not enough, at least for frameworks like Dojo. Or am I wrong? Questions: Would implementation of JSON-RPC 1.0 specifications be enough to provide JSON-RPC service for most of modern clients, and how many clients there (if at-all) that actually support beyond JSON-RPC 1.0 capabilities (SMD, Schema, 2.0)? Because it looks like that JSON-RPC 1.0 is only one that has official specifications (and not draft) If I should implement SMD, or it is recommended can somebody point to official, most recent specifications of Json Schema and Service Mapping Description or links I found are really "the specifications?" Are JSON-RPC 2.0, SMD and JSON-Schema drafts stable enough to implement them? Note: do not suggest existing JSON-RPC service implementations. Anybody?

  • How to include an external jar in gwt client side?

  • How to include an external jar in a GWT module?

    - by Sergio del Amo
I would like to use the org.apache.commons.validator.GenericValidator class in a view class of my GWT web app. I have read that I have to implicitely tell that I intend to use this external library. I thought adding the next line into my App.gwt.xml would work. <inherits name='org.apache.commons.validator.GenericValidator'/> I get the next error: Loading inherited module 'org.apache.commons.validator.GenericValidator' [ERROR] Unable to find 'org/apache/commons/validator/GenericValidator.gwt.xml' on your classpath; could be a typo, or maybe you forgot to include a classpath entry for source? • Attempting to ping RPC endpoint 6001/6004 (Exchange Information Store) on server on Exchange2010

    - by MadBoy
I have Exchange 2010 in hosting setup like: TMG 2010 as load balancer Exchange 2010 x 2 (CAS,MAILBOX,HUB on each server) AD1, AD2 machines File witness All people currently connect thru OWA or POP3/SMTP and that works fine. The problem is autodiscovery doesn't work and RPC in terms of setting up Outlook doesn't work too. It doesn't work if I am connected with VPN or not. The thing is it used to work. Before reinstall of my machine 2 days ago I was able to get mails successfully thru Outlook that was set up using autodiscovery (but I was getting reports setting up of new clients wasn't working - so not sure why my outlook continued to work). I used https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com to track it down and basically the message is more or less this: Attempting to ping RPC endpoint 6004 (NSPI Proxy Interface) on server autodiscover.domain.pl. The attempt to ping the endpoint failed. Additional Details The RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE error (0x6ba) was thrown by the RPC Runtime process. I tried different solutions like disabling IP v6, followed couple of links and did all they proposed and it's still at the very same point: C:\Users\admin>netstat -a | find "6001" TCP 0.0.0.0:6001 EXCHANGE2:0 LISTENING TCP [::]:6001 EXCHANGE2:0 LISTENING C:\Users\admin>netstat -a | find "6002" C:\Users\admin>netstat -a | find "6003" C:\Users\admin>netstat -a | find "6004" I followed (and few others): http://helewix.com/blog/index.php/Microsoft-Solutions/2011/02/10/exchange-2010-how-to-open-ports-6001-6002-and-6004-on-your-server-for-telnet-to-work-and-rpc-to-be-able-to-connect-2 http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2008/06/20/3405633.aspx http://messagexchange.blogspot.com/2008/12/outlook-anywhere-failing-rpc-end-points.html Although most relate to Exchange 2007 and I have Exchange 2010 but there's not much things I can find on Exchange 2010 for the current problem. After applying all of those solutions error 6004 changed into error 6001 which doesn't bring me to my problems any closer. At this point even thou error was 6001 and 6004 was no more the 6004 port was still closed while 6001 stayed open. Attempting to ping RPC endpoint 6001 (Exchange Information Store) on server autodiscover.domain.pl. The attempt to ping the endpoint failed. Additional Details The RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE error (0x6ba) was thrown by the RPC Runtime process. C:\Users\admin>netstat -a | find "6001" TCP 0.0.0.0:6001 EXCHANGE2:0 LISTENING TCP [::]:6001 EXCHANGE2:0 LISTENING C:\Users\admin>netstat -a | find "6002" C:\Users\admin>netstat -a | find "6003" C:\Users\admin>netstat -a | find "6004" So I reverted back to square one. I suspect it's a problem with TMG but really can't be sure. I tried multiple combinations but all fail.

  • Easy GWT Animations

    - by brad
I've started looking at some external GWT libraries for animations, but they all seemd a bit overkill for what i want. I'm trying to mimic JQuery Tools scrollabel plugin in GWT for a scrolling navigation (think iphone). User clicks an item, page scrolls to the child panel of that item, which may also have children that can be clicked. All I need to do is slide a div, x number of pixels backwards and forwards over some fixed rate of time The only real tutorial i've found on writing animations in GWT is 2 years old and seems a bit verbose, (managing individual frames etc...) Is there no simpler solution for easily moving a div from one position to another without requiring all the extra cruft? Forgive me but I'm coming from jQuery coding that has this built in simply and easily.

  • GWT dev mode throws ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException when compile GinjectorImpl.java

I overdid ModuleSpace.java and printed out the class name at line 665 before Class.forName() which points out it is trying to load the generated GinjectorImpl.java I found out my generated GinjectorImpl.java is about 9MB and with 100K+ lines of code. When I randomly remove some modules from my GWT app it works again, so I'm guessing it is too large for ASM to compile. Any suggestions? • GWT and java.io.Serializable

    - by Ethan Leroy
Hello, In my GWT app I have the following model class: import com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.IsSerializable; public class TestEntity implements IsSerializable { public String testString; } This class implements the GWT custom IsSerializable marker interface - which I really don't like, because I use my model classes not only for GWT. So I prefer java.io.Serializable. But if I modify the class to implement Serializable instead of IsSerializable, the GWT RPC mechanism doesn't work anymore. I don't get an error on the server side, but on the client AsyncCallback.onFailure is invoked. I am using... GWT 1.7.0. Spring 2.5.6.SEC01 Spring and GWT are configured as described here.

  • Slow XML-RPC in Windows 7 with XML-RPC.NET

    - by Emre Sahin
I'm considering to use XML-RPC.NET to communicate with a Linux XML-RPC server written in Python. I have tried a sample application (MathApp) from Cook Computing's XML-RPC.NET but it took 30 seconds for the app to add two numbers within the same LAN with server. I have also tried to run a simple client written in Python on Windows 7 to call the same server and it responded in 5 seconds. The machine has 4 GB of RAM with comparable processing power so this is not an issue. Then I tried to call the server from a Windows XP system with Java and PHP. Both responses were pretty fast, almost instantly. The server was responding quickly on localhost too, so I don't think the latency arise from server. My googling returned me some problems regarding Windows' use of IPv6 but our call to server does include IPv4 address (not hostname) in the same subnet. Anyways I turned off IPv6 but nothing changed. Are there any more ways to check for possible causes of latency?

  • Dynamically creating GWT screens using Metadata?

    - by Francis Shanahan
I have an AWT applet application that needs to be ported over to GWT. The applet screens are described in meta data and the applet renders each screen dynamically using reflection. We'd like the same thing in GWT/ExtGWT. I've built a working version of this ExtJS whereby the metadata is turned into ExtJS Screen configs in the form of JSON. The drawback with this approach is the "wiring" of controls to data needs to be written in Javascript. GWT is preferred since it'd be all Java code, no JS. Upon digging in it's possible to render the screens using GWT off the metadata using GWT.create(). The problem I'm having is the wiring to hook a dynamically created button for example to an event handler requires reflection which is not supported in GWT. Is this conclusion correct? and if so, are there any other ways to achieve this type of dynamic UI using ExtGWT?

  • How can I call a GWT RPC method on a server from a non GWT (but Java) gapplication?

    - by hansi
I have a regular Java application and want to access an GWT RPC endpoint. Any idea how to make this happen? My GWT application is on a GAE/J and I could use REST for example but I already have the GWT RPC endpoints and don't want to build another façade. Yes, I have seen http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1330318/invoke-a-gwt-rpc-service-from-java-directly, but this discussion goes into a different direction.

  • Ext-GWT / GXT (Not So) Simple Layout Issue?

    - by Xandel
Hi all, I have posted this question on the Ext-GWT forums, I am just hoping that someone here might have an answer for me! I am struggling to do something I initially thought was simple but am beginning to believe is impossible... I have got a "layout template" of sorts - simply consisting of a few GWT DockLayoutPanel's within each other and finally ending in LayoutPanels. GWT's LayoutPanel is designed to size the widget (or Composite) that's added to it to its full size and does so perfectly with pure GWT widgets. The idea of my "layout template" is that I don't know the EXACT height and width of the very inner LayoutPanel's because I may set certain panels sizes (of the outer DockLayoutPanels) differently when instantiating this template. All I would like is to add a Grid component to one of the inner most LayoutPanels and have it size itself (height AND width) to fit as normal GWT widgets do (works perfectly with a GWT Label for instance). I am VERY new to GXT (as in I started using it earlier today) and I do realize that GXT builds its Components differently to the way GWT builds its Widgets on the DOM. Is there anyway to achieve the desired result? I have tried adding the grid to a ContentPanel with a Layout of FitLayout, I have tried AnchorLayout, I have tried adding the grid directly... Nothing seems to work... Any advice or even a push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Xandel

  • Calling a GWT service in a different context than the GWT Module Base?

    - by Epaga
I have a GWT module with the X-GWT-Module-Base http://host:8080/foo/ and would like to call a (GWT) service which is located at http://host:8080/bar/. The reason is for example that I want to be able to share a GWT service between two different GWT client projects. All I've gotten to work so far is if the service is located within the module context, i.e. http://host:8080/foo/bar works fine, using @RemoteServiceRelativePath("bar") in my service interface. It seems that the @RemoteServiceRelativePath only allows a value relative to the module base URL...so is there some other way to accomplish what I'm trying to accomplish?

  • Sending persisted JDO instances over GWT-RPC

    - by Ben Daniel
I've just started learning Google Web Toolkit and finished writing the Stock Watcher tutorial app. Is my thinking correct that if one wants to persist a business object (like a Stock) using JDO and send it back and forth to/from the client over RPC then one has to create two separate classes for that object: One with the JDO annotations for persisting it on the server and another which is serialisable and used over RPC? I notice the Stock Watcher has separate classes and I can theorise why: Otherwise the gwt compiler would try to generate javascript for everything the persisted class referenced like JDO and com.google.blah.users.User, etc Also there may be logic on the server-side class which doesn't apply to the client and vice-versa. I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. I don't want to have to create two versions of all my business object classes which I want to use over RPC if I don't have to.

  • Is it worth learning either GWT or Vaadin?

    - by NimChimpsky
I consider myself a decent java/web developer. In my career I have always used servlets and ejb's with a web front end, most recently incoporating jquery and ajax. I can see the theoretical benefit of using GWT or Vaadin: it is my understanding they convert Java code to the required JavaScript/HTML. So the developer gets the benefit of cross browser compatibility and compile time error checking (of web GUI elements). My question is threefold: Are there any other benefits I am missing that would be gained using Vaadin or GWT? I am actually quite confident and productive using HTML and JavaScript - so will I actually see any benefit? Or will it just make my knowledge of these areas redundant (as they are handled by GWT/Vaadin)? Will the end result be that I can create enterprise scale data driven websites in a reasonably short time? I can however already do this, and I have not wasted any time learning GWT/Vaadin.
