  • Cache front end for the JetS3t API

    - by Joshua
Storage via JetS3t REST API seems to be very slow. Is there a caching front end for the JetS3t API for avoiding a network hit on the fetch calls [link text][1] [1]: http://jets3t.s3.amazonaws.com/api/org/jets3t/service/S3Service.html#getObject(org.jets3t.service.model.S3Bucket, java.lang.String, java.util.Calendar, java.util.Calendar, java.lang.String[], java.lang.String[], java.lang.Long, java.lang.Long)

  • Jets3t on Android

    - by Chubbs
Hey guys, I am trying to use the Jets3t library within an Android application, and I keep getting errors with the Rest service when I use the library. 04-27 16:47:39.491: ERROR/S3Service(225): Couldn't initialize a sax driver for the XMLReader I have tried to include the Xerces library and the Crimson library, and it dont play well. I get this error: Attempt to include a core class (java.* or javax.*) in something other than a core library. It is likely that you have attempted to include in an application the core library (or a part thereof) from a desktop virtual machine. This will most assuredly not work. At a minimum, it jeopardizes the compatibility of your app with future versions of the platform. It is also often of questionable legality. If you really intend to build a core library -- which is only appropriate as part of creating a full virtual machine distribution, as opposed to compiling an application -- then use the "--core-library" option to suppress this error message. Is there something I can do to get it working ?

  • Adding S3 metadata using jets3t

    - by billintx
    I'm just starting to use the jets3t API for S3, using version 0.7.2 I can't seem to save metadata with the S3Objects I'm creating. What am I doing wrong? The object is successfully saved when I putObject, but I don't see the metadata after I get the object. S3Service s3Service = new RestS3Service(awsCredentials); S3Bucket bucket = s3Service.getBucket(BUCKET_NAME); String key = "/1783c05a/p1"; String data = "This is test data at key " + key; S3Object object = new S3Object(key,data); object.addMetadata("color", "green"); for (Iterator iterator = object.getMetadataMap().keySet() .iterator(); iterator.hasNext();) { String type = (String) iterator.next(); System.out.println(type + "==" + object.getMetadataMap().get(type)); } s3Service.putObject(bucket, object); S3Object retreivedObject = s3Service.getObject(bucket, key); for (Iterator iterator = object.getMetadataMap().keySet() .iterator(); iterator.hasNext();) { String type = (String) iterator.next(); System.out.println(type + "==" + object.getMetadataMap().get(type)); } Here's the output before putObject Content-Length==37 color==green Content-MD5==AOdkk23V6k+rLEV03171UA== Content-Type==text/plain; charset=utf-8 md5-hash==00e764936dd5ea4fab2c4574df5ef550 Here's the output after putObject/getObject Content-Length==37 ETag=="00e764936dd5ea4fab2c4574df5ef550" request-id==9ED1633672C0BAE9 Date==Wed Mar 24 09:51:44 CDT 2010 Content-MD5==AOdkk23V6k+rLEV03171UA== Content-Type==text/plain; charset=utf-8

  • jets3t and Downloading Files from AmazonS3 with Different Name

    - by Gregg
We're using AmazonS3 for file storage and recently found out that we need to keep some sort of directory structure. Since S3 doesn't allow that, we know we can name the files according to their structure for storage. For example... abc/123/draft.doc What I want to know is if I want to provide a public link to this particular file is there anyway that the file can simply be draft.doc instead of abc/123/draft.doc ?

  • Using a "local" S3 emulation layer as a replacement for HDFS?

    - by user183394
I have been testing out the most recent Cloudera CDH4 hadoop-conf-pseudo (i.e. MRv2 or YARN) on a notebook, which has 4 cores, 8GB RAM, an Intel X25MG2 SSD, and runs a S3 emulation layer my colleagues and I wrote in C++. The OS is Ubuntu 12.04LTS 64bit. So far so good. Looking at Setting up hadoop to use S3 as a replacement for HDFS, I would like to do it on my notebook. Nevertheless, I can't find where I can change the jets3t.properties for setting the end point to localhost. I downloaded the hadoop-2.0.1-alpha.tar.gz and searched the source without finding out a clue. There is a similar Q on SO Using s3 as fs.default.name or HDFS?, but I want to use our own lightweight and fast S3 emulation layer, instead of AWS S3, for our experiments. I would appreciate a hint as to how I can change the end point to a different hostname. Regards, --Zack

  • Is it safe to use S3 over HTTP from EC2, as opposed to HTTPS

    - by Marc
I found that there is a fair deal of overhead when uploading a lot of small files to S3. Some of this overhead comes from SSL itself. How safe is it to talk to S3 without SSL when running in EC2? From the awesome comments below, here are some clarifications: this is NOT a question about HTTPS versus HTTP or the sensitivity of my data. I'm trying to get a feeling for the networking and protocol particularities of EC2 and S3. For example Are we guaranteed to be passing through only the AWS network when communicating from EC2 to S3 Can other AWS users (apart from staff) sniff my communications between EC2 and S3 Is authentication on their api done on every call, and thus credentials are passed on every call? Or is there some kind of authenticated session. I am using the jets3t lib. Feedback from people with some AWS experience would be appreciated. Thanks Marc

  • Problem with copying local data onto HDFS on a Hadoop cluster using Amazon EC2/ S3.

    - by Deepak Konidena
Hi, I have setup a Hadoop cluster containing 5 nodes on Amazon EC2. Now, when i login into the Master node and submit the following command bin/hadoop jar <program>.jar <arg1> <arg2> <path/to/input/file/on/S3> It throws the following errors (not at the same time.) The first error is thrown when i don't replace the slashes with '%2F' and the second is thrown when i replace them with '%2F': 1) Java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid hostname in URI S3://<ID>:<SECRETKEY>@<BUCKET>/<path-to-inputfile> 2) org.apache.hadoop.fs.S3.S3Exception: org.jets3t.service.S3ServiceException: S3 PUT failed for '/' XML Error Message: The request signature we calculated does not match the signature you provided. check your key and signing method. Note: 1)when i submitted jps to see what tasks were running on the Master, it just showed 1116 NameNode 1699 Jps 1180 JobTracker leaving DataNode and TaskTracker. 2)My Secret key contains two '/' (forward slashes). And i replace them with '%2F' in the S3 URI. PS: The program runs fine on EC2 when run on a single node. Its only when i launch a cluster, i run into issues related to copying data to/from S3 from/to HDFS. And, what does distcp do? Do i need to distribute the data even after i copy the data from S3 to HDFS?(I thought, HDFS took care of that internally) IF you could direct me to a link that explains running Map/reduce programs on a hadoop cluster using Amazon EC2/S3. That would be great. Regards, Deepak.
