  • Getting "<kml:..." everywhere, updating a Kml file

    - by Rafe Lavelle
I'm reading in a Kml file, changing the placemarks' names, and saving it again. var KmlFile = XDocument.Load("C:\\Inetpub\\wwwroot\\GeotagService\\Kml\\Photographs.kml"); XNamespace KmlNamespace = "http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2"; // find the Placemarks in the Photos folder IEnumerable<XElement> Placemarks = KmlFile.Element(KmlNamespace + "kml").Element(KmlNamespace + "Document").Element(KmlNamespace + "Folder").Elements(KmlNamespace + "Placemark"); foreach (XElement p in Placemarks){ p.Element(KmlNamespace + "name").Value = "testing"; } KmlFile.Save("C:\\Inetpub\\wwwroot\\GeotagService\\Kml\\Photographs.kml"); When I save it however, every element is prefixed with <kml:, like this: <kml:Folder> <kml:name>Photos</kml:name> <kml:open>1</kml:open> <kml:Placemark> <kml:name>testing</kml:name> <kml:LookAt> <kml:longitude>-10.02717694938161</kml:longitude> <kml:latitude>53.48672543547379</kml:latitude> <kml:altitude>0</kml:altitude> </kml:LookAt> <kml:styleUrl>#msn_ylw-pushpin1</kml:styleUrl> <kml:Point> <kml:coordinates>-10.02867619360582,53.48651240326751,0</kml:coordinates> </kml:Point> </kml:Placemark>... Tomalak's comment on this question about blank xmlns gives me a clue that it might be inconsistencies between the namespaces of the document and the elements, but I can't see how I'm doing that. Anyone know?

    - by user1653126
I have this code, i am trying to toggle some kml layers. The problem is that when i click the marker it isn't showing the infowindow. Maybe someone can show me my error. Thanks. • What is the best practice with KML files when adding geositemap?

    - by Floran
    Im not sure how to deal with kml files. Now important particularly in reference to the Google Venice update. My site basically is a guide of many company listings (sort of Yellow Pages). I want each company listing to have a geolocation associated with it. Which of the options I present below is the way to go? OPTION 1: all locations in a single KML file with a reference to that KML file from a geositemap.xml MYGEOSITEMAP.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9" xmlns:geo="http://www.google.com/geo/schemas/sitemap/1.0"> <url><loc>http://www.mysite.com/locations.kml</loc> <geo:geo> <geo:format>kml</geo:format></geo:geo></url> </urlset> ALLLOCATIONS.kml <kml xmlns="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"> <Document> <name>MyCompany</name> <atom:author> <atom:name>MyCompany</atom:name> </atom:author> <atom:link href="http://www.mysite.com/locations/3454/MyCompany" rel="related" /> <Placemark> <name>MyCompany, Kalverstraat 26 Amsterdam 1000AG</name> <description><![CDATA[<address><a href="http://www.mysite.com/locations/3454/MyCompany">MyCompany</a><br />Address: Kalverstraat 26, Amsterdam 1000AG <br />Phone: 0646598787</address><p>hello there, im MyCompany</p>]]> </description><Point><coordinates>5.420686499999965,51.6298808,0</coordinates> </Point> </Placemark> </Document> </kml> <kml xmlns="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"> <Document> <name>MyCompany</name><atom:author><atom:name>MyCompany</atom:name></atom:author><atom:link href="http://www.mysite.com/locations/22/companyX" rel="related" /><Placemark><name>MyCompany, Rosestreet 45 Amsterdam 1001XF </name><description><![CDATA[<address><a href="http://www.mysite.com/locations/22/companyX">companyX</a><br />Address: Rosestreet 45, Amsterdam 1001XF <br />Phone: 0642195493</address><p>some text about companyX</p>]]></description><Point><coordinates>5.520686499889632,51.6197705,0</coordinates></Point></Placemark> </Document> </kml> OPTION 2: a separate KML file for each location and a reference to each KML file from a geositemap.xml (kml files placed in a \kmlfiles folder) MYGEOSITEMAP.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9" xmlns:geo="http://www.google.com/geo/schemas/sitemap/1.0"> <url><loc>http://www.mysite.com/kmlfiles/3454_MyCompany.kml</loc> <geo:geo> <geo:format>kml</geo:format></geo:geo></url> <url><loc>http://www.mysite.com/kmlfiles/22_companyX.kml</loc> <geo:geo> <geo:format>kml</geo:format></geo:geo></url> </urlset> *3454_MyCompany.kml* <kml xmlns="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"> <Document><name>MyCompany</name><atom:author><atom:name>MyCompany</atom:name></atom:author><atom:link href="http://www.mysite.com/locations/3454/MyCompany" rel="related" /><Placemark><name>MyCompany, Kalverstraat 26 Amsterdam 1000AG</name><description><![CDATA[<address><a href="http://www.mysite.com/locations/3454/MyCompany">MyCompany</a><br />Address: Kalverstraat 26, Amsterdam 1000AG <br />Phone: 0646598787</address><p>hello there, im MyCompany</p>]]></description><Point><coordinates>5.420686499999965,51.6298808,0</coordinates></Point></Placemark> </Document> </kml> *22_companyX.kml* <kml xmlns="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"> <Document><name>companyX</name><atom:author><atom:name>companyX</atom:name></atom:author><atom:link href="http://www.mysite.com/locations/22/companyX" rel="related" /><Placemark><name>companyX, Rosestreet 45 Amsterdam 1001XF </name><description><![CDATA[<address><a href="http://www.mysite.com/locations/22/companyX">companyX</a><br />Address: Rosestreet 45, Amsterdam 1001XF <br />Phone: 0642195493</address><p>some text about companyX</p>]]></description><Point><coordinates>5.520686499889632,51.6197705,0</coordinates></Point></Placemark> </Document> </kml> OPTION 3?

  • Merging Two KML Files to Display Them with Different Marker Icons on Google Maps

    - by Maxim Z.
Let's say that I have two spreadsheets with addresses. I uploaded these spreadsheets into Google Fusion Tables, geocoded the addresses, and exported the results as KML files. Now, I want to take these two KML files and merge them, while maintaining the location data and using it to map the points with Google Maps. Well, I found a way to easily merge the KML files: import both of them into a "My Maps" map with Google Maps! However, my problem is this: when I do that, all of the locations in my data have the same marker icon on the map. From past experience, I know that these markers can be somehow defined inside the KML files. Is it possible to combine these two KML files while giving one's points one marker icon and the other's points another marker icon? Just in case my question is confusing, what I mean, is giving the first set of points blue markers, for example, and the other set of points red markers, so that they can be overlayed.

  • How to output KML by GAE

    - by Niklas R
    Hi I use KML for a google map where entities have a geopt.db coordinate and soft memory limit was exceeded with 213.465 MB after servicing 1 requests total. The log says /list.kml 200 13130ms 10211cpu_ms 4238api_cpu_ms The file list.kml which outputs about 455,7 KB is a template as follows <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><kml xmlns="http:// www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:gx="http://www.google.com/kml/ext/2.2" xmlns:kml="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:atom="http:// www.w3.org/2005/Atom"> <Document>{% for a in list %} <Placemark> <name> </name> <description> <![CDATA[<a href="http://{{host}}/{{a.key.id}}"> {{ a.title }} </a> <br/>{{a.text}}]]> </description> <Style> <IconStyle> <Icon> <href> http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/mapfiles/ms/icons/green-dot.png </href> </Icon> </IconStyle> </Style> <Point> <coordinates> {{a.geopt.lon|floatformat:2}},{{a.geopt.lat|floatformat:2}} </coordinates> </Point> </Placemark> {% endfor %} </Document> </kml> Is there a memory leak in the template or the python that passes the list variable? Can I improve using other template engine or other framework than default? Is kmz compression a good idea in this case? Thanks in advance for any suggestion where or how to change the code.

  • Extract <name> attribute from KML

    - by Ozaki
I am using OpenLayers for a mapping service. In which I have several KML layers that are using KML feeds from server to populate data on the map. It currently plots: images / points / vector lines & shapes. But on these points it will not add a label with the value of the for the placemark in the KML. What I have currently tried is: ////////////////////KML Feed for * Layer// var surveylinelayer = new OpenLayers.Layer.Vector("First KML Layer", { projection: new OpenLayers.Projection("EPSG:4326"), strategies: [new OpenLayers.Strategy.Fixed()], protocol: new OpenLayers.Protocol.HTTP({ url: firstKMLURL, format: new OpenLayers.Format.KML({ extractStyles: true, extractAttributes: true }) }), styleMap: new OpenLayers.StyleMap({ "default": KMLStyle }) }); then the Style as follows: var KMLStyle = new OpenLayers.Style({ //label: "${name}", // This method will display nothing fillOpacity: 1, pointRadius: 10, fontColor: "#7E3C1C", fontSize: "13px", fontFamily: "Courier New, monospace", fontWeight: "strong", labelXOffset: "0", labelYOffset: "-15" }, { //dynamic label context: { label: function(feature) { return "Feature Name: " + feature.attributes.name; // also displays nothing } } }); Example of the KML: <Placemark> <name>POI1</name> <Style> <LabelStyle> <color>ffffffff</color> </LabelStyle> </Style> <Point> <coordinates>0.000,0.000</coordinates> </Point> </Placemark> When debugging I just hit "feature is undefined" and am unsure why it would be undefined in this instance?

  • How to prepare KML file for Android Emulator Control?

    - by AndroiDBeginner
I am trying to test my application with location information. You know the Emulator Control has an ability to load from KML file. (Eclipse - DDMS - Emulator Control - Location Controls - KML - Load KML...) I've prepared KML file using Google earth application with its "Add path". Then saved it by .kml extension and load it on the Eclipse. Eclipse didn't load this KML file. How to prepare KML file for Android Emulator Control?

  • DDMS won't load (or doesn't parse?) KML file

    - by nderraugh
I can't get DDMS to load any KML files. I have a KML file for example with the following in it: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <kml xmlns="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2"> <Placemark> <name>Simple placemark</name> <description>Attached to the ground. Intelligently places itself at the height of the underlying terrain.</description> <Point> <coordinates>-122.0822035425683,37.42228990140251,0</coordinates> </Point> </Placemark> </kml> The docs at http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/ddms.html seem to indicate that I only need to launch my app and fire up DDMS and load the KML. That doesn't work. I even tried the Google Earth solution suggested at the same link. I'm using SDK 1.5_r2. I am doing something wrong or missing something?

  • Placemark name from KML to OpenLayers Label.

    - by Ozaki
TLDR I have a KML layer in OpenLayers. It pulls out the geometries images placemarks etc. But will not apply a label to any of my placemarks etc: I am stumped by this one my StyleMap is as follows: var styleMap = new OpenLayers.StyleMap({ fillOpacity: 1, pointRadius: 10, label: "${name}", //I believe this should pull the name attr from the KML fontColor: "#7E3C1C", fontSize: "13px", fontFamily: "Courier New, monospace", fontWeight: "strong", labelXOffset: "0", labelYOffset: "-15" }); and the layer: var mykmllayer= new OpenLayers.Layer.Vector("KML Layer", { styleMap: styleMap, projection: new OpenLayers.Projection("EPSG:4326"), strategies: [new OpenLayers.Strategy.Fixed()], protocol: new OpenLayers.Protocol.HTTP({ url: URLTOKML, format: new OpenLayers.Format.KML({ styleMap: myStyles, extractStyles: true, extractAttributes: true }) }) }); (Insert shameless bump here)bump Does anyone know maybe what I am missing or a reason why this wouldn't work?

  • Generating a KML heatmap from given data set of [lat, lon, density]

    - by Will Croft
I am looking to build a static KML (Google Earth markup) file which displays a heatmap-style rendering of a few given data sets in the form of [lat, lon, density] tuples. A very straightforward data set I have is for population density. My requirements are: must be able to feed in data for a given lat, lon must be able to specific the given density of the data at that lat, lon must export to KML The requirements are language agnostic for this project as I will be generating these files offline in order to build the KML used elsewhere. I have looked at a few projects, most notably heatmap.py, which is a port of gheat in Python with KML export. I have hit a brick wall in the sense that the projects I have found to date all rely on building the heatmap from the density of [lat, lon] points fed into the algorithm. If I am missing an obvious way to adapt my data set to feed in just the [lat, lon] tuples but adjusting how I feed them using the density values I have, I would love to know!

  • String of KML needs to be converted to java objects

    - by spartikus
I have a string of kml coming in on a request object. I have used xjc to create the kml java objects. I am looking for an easy way to create the kml nested java objects from this string. I could parse the string and create each object in the tree by hand but wouldn't it be cool if there was a library or something that would create the java objects for me? Something like KmlType type = parseKML(mykmlStringFromTheRequest); Then type would be a Tree of kml objects. Thanks for the help all.

  • Marshaling and Unmarshaling of kml codes for Google Earth

    - by Kayson
May i inquire more knowledge on marshaling and unmarshaling of kml codes? Regarding those used in Google earth. I need to do a project on flight airlines, linking them with an arc which is a polygon to connect placemarks with placemarks. I've tried to compile sample codes of HelloKML but still unable to marshal and produce the kml codes itself. Please someone explain marshaling and unmarshaling of codes and producing of kml codes. Thanks in advance.

  • Google Maps KML Solution Validation

    - by user728584
Google Maps newbie (GIS newbie), I'm looking at a solution to map an overlay (number of polygons) on-top of Google maps and wondered if using a KML file was a viable solution? Basically, I have a number of address (address data) that I will pass to our internal GIS system, the GIS system hands me back a KML file (one file with a number of different locations) and then I draw the polygon using the KML Layering options: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/layers Sound like a viable solution? Cheers

  • Programmatically creating vector arrows in KML

    - by mettadore
Does anyone have any practical examples of programmatically drawing icons as vectors in KML? Specifically, I have data with a magnitude and an azimuth at given coordinates, and I would like to have icons (or another graphical element) generated based on these values. Some thoughts on how I might approach it: Image directory (a brute force way): Make an image director of 360 different image files (probably batch rotate a single image) each pointing in a cooresponding azimuth. I've seen things like "Excel to KML," but am looking for code that I can use within a program, rather than a web utility. Issue: Arrow does not contain magnitude context, so that would have to be a label. I'd rather dynamically lengthen the arrow. Line creation in KML: Perhaps create a formula that creates a line with the origin at the coordinate points, with the length of the line proportional to the magnitute, and angled according to azimuth. There would then be two more lines, perhaps 30 degrees or so extending from the end of the previous line to make the arrow head. Issues: Not a separate image icon, so not sure how it would work in KML. Also not sure how easy it would be to generate this algorithm. Separate image generation: Perhaps create a PHP file that uses imagemagick or something similar to dynamically generate a .png file in a similar method to the above, and then link to the icon using the URI "domain.tld/imagegen.php?magnitude=magvalue&azimuth=azmvalue". Issue: Still have the problem of actually writing the algorithm for image generation. So, the question: has anyone else come up with solutions for programmatic vector (rather than merely arrow) generation?

  • infoWindow position and click/unclick controls - controlling KML groundoverlays

    - by wendysmith
    I've made a lot of progress on this project (with earlier help with forum member Eric Badger, thanks!!) but I now need help with fine-tuning the infoWindow. Presently, you checkbox one of the historic maps choices -- the map appears as a ground overlay, and if you click it, you get info about the map which appears in a div (yellow area at the bottom). I want the info to appear in a more traditional window on the map, just to the center-right of the overlay map. It should have a close-option (X at the top corner?) Also, if you uncheck one of the boxes -- the overlay map disappears but the info window should close as well.  As you see my javascript skills are very limited. I would very much appreciate your help with this. Here's the test webpage: Here's the script: function showphilpottsmap(philpottsmapcheck) { if (philpottsmapcheck.checked == true) { philpottsmap.setMap(map); } else { philpottsmap.setMap(null); } } function showbrownemap(brownemapcheck) { if (brownemapcheck.checked == true) { brownemap.setMap(map); } else { brownemap.setMap(null); } } function showchewettmap(chewettmapcheck) { if (chewettmapcheck.checked == true) { chewettmap.setMap(map); } else { chewettmap.setMap(null); } } function showjamescanemap(jamescanemapcheck) { if (jamescanemapcheck.checked == true) { jamescanemap.setMap(map); } else { jamescanemap.setMap(null); } } var infoWindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow(); function openIW(FTevent) { infoWindow.setContent(FTevent.infoWindowHtml); infoWindow.setPosition(FTevent.latLng); infoWindow.setOptions({ content: FTevent.infoWindowHtml, position: FTevent.latLng, pixelOffset: FTevent.pixelOffset }); infoWindow.open(map); } var philpottsmap; var brownemap; var chewettmap; var jamescanemap; function initialize() { var mylatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(43.65241745, -79.393923); var myOptions = { zoom: 11, center: mylatlng, streetViewControl: false, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP, }; map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions); //End map parameters brownemap = new google.maps.KmlLayer('http://wendysmithtoronto.com/mapping/1851map_jdbrowne.kml', {preserveViewport:true, suppressInfoWindows:true}); google.maps.event.addListener(brownemap, 'click', function(kmlEvent) { document.getElementById('sidebarinfo').innerHTML = kmlEvent.featureData.description; }); chewettmap = new google.maps.KmlLayer('http://wendysmithtoronto.com/mapping/1802mapwilliamchewett.kml', {preserveViewport:true, suppressInfoWindows:true}); google.maps.event.addListener(chewettmap, 'click', function(kmlEvent) { document.getElementById('sidebarinfo').innerHTML = kmlEvent.featureData.description; }); philpottsmap = new google.maps.KmlLayer('http://wendysmithtoronto.com/mapping/1818map_phillpotts.kml', {preserveViewport:true, suppressInfoWindows:true}); google.maps.event.addListener(philpottsmap, 'click', function(kmlEvent) { document.getElementById('sidebarinfo').innerHTML = kmlEvent.featureData.description; }); jamescanemap = new google.maps.KmlLayer('http://wendysmithtoronto.com/mapping/1842jamescanemapd.kml', {preserveViewport:true, suppressInfoWindows:true}); google.maps.event.addListener(jamescanemap, 'click', function(kmlEvent) { document.getElementById('sidebarinfo').innerHTML = kmlEvent.featureData.description; }); } Thanks very much!   • Refresh / Redraw a Layer in OpenLayers (KML) Network-Link Auto Refresh

    - by Ozaki
TLDR I want to refresh a layer on a timer so it plots the new kml data (like update-link / network link) So far I have tried action function as follows: function RefreshKMLData(layer) { layer.loaded = false; layer.setVisibility(true); layer.redraw({ force: true }); } set interval of the function: window.setInterval(RefreshKMLData, 5000, KMLLAYER); the layer itself: var KMLLAYER = new OpenLayers.Layer.Vector("MYKMLLAYER", { projection: new OpenLayers.Projection("EPSG:4326"), strategies: [new OpenLayers.Strategy.Fixed()], protocol: new OpenLayers.Protocol.HTTP({ url: MYKMLURL, format: new OpenLayers.Format.KML({ extractStyles: true, extractAttributes: true }) }) }); the url for KMLLAYER with Math random so it doesnt cache: var MYKMLURL = var currentanchorpositionurl = 'http://' + host + '/data?_salt=' + Math.random(); I would have thought that this would Refresh the layer. As by setting its loaded to false unloads it. Visibility to true reloads it and with the Math random shouldn't allow it to cache? So has anyone done this before or know how I can get this to work?

  • Android map performance with > 800 overlays of KML data

    - by span
I have some a shape file which I have converted to a KML file that I wish to read coordinates from and then draw paths between the coordinates on a MapView. With the help of this great post: How to draw a path on a map using kml file? I have been able to read the the KML into an ArrayList of "Placemarks". This great blog post then showed how to take a list of GeoPoints and draw a path: http://djsolid.net/blog/android---draw-a-path-array-of-points-in-mapview The example in the above post only draws one path between some points however and since I have many more paths than that I am running into some performance problems. I'm currently adding a new RouteOverlay for each of the separate paths. This results in me having over 800 overlays when they have all been added. This has a performance hit and I would love some input on what I can do to improve it. Here are some options I have considered: Try to add all the points to a List which then can be passed into a class that will extend Overlay. In that new class perhaps it would be possible to add and draw the paths in a single Overlay layer? I'm not sure on how to implement this though since the paths are not always intersecting and they have different start and end points. At the moment I'm adding each path which has several points to it's own list and then I add that to an Overlay. That results in over 700 overlays... Simplify the KML or SHP. Instead of having over 700 different paths, perhaps there is someway to merge them into perhaps 100 paths or less? Since alot of paths are intersected at some point it should be possible to modify the original SHP file so that it merges all intersections. Since I have never worked with these kinds of files before I have not been able to find a way to do this in GQIS. If someone knows how to do this I would love for some input on that. Here is a link to the group of shape files if you are interested: http://danielkvist.net/cprg_bef_cbana_polyline.shp http://danielkvist.net/cprg_bef_cbana_polyline.shx http://danielkvist.net/cprg_bef_cbana_polyline.dbf http://danielkvist.net/cprg_bef_cbana_polyline.prj Anyway, here is the code I'm using to add the Overlays.
