  • Listing the contents of a LZMA compressed file?

    - by ssn
Is it possible to list the contents of a LZMA file (.7zip) without uncompressing the whole file? Also, can I extract a single file from the LZMA file? My problem: I have a 30GB .7z file that uncompresses to 5TB. I would like to manipulate the original .7z file without needing to do a full uncompress.

I got a LZMA library on 7-zip site, but that didn't worked. I'm not using files, just stream. And for some why the library on 7-zip site just write the header on the stream but not compress the stream. Some one faced the some problem ? Have some example ? Know other LZMA library for Delphi ? • How do I use the 7-zip LZMA SDK 9.x to self-extract?

    - by Christopher
I am writing a SFX for an installer. I have a number of good reasons for doing this, primarily: The installer is actually a large Python program which uses plugins. Using py2exe or pyinstaller makes doing plugins annoyingly complicated. I want to be able to pass command-line options directly to the Python installer script, as if it were getting run directly. Using the existing 7-zip SFX modules is clunky because I cannot pass command-line options directly into the processes I want to start. I need more flexibility than any of the existing SFX modules I have seen provide. I have already tried using the SDK to open the file, seek to the 7z archive signature, and run the decompression from there. That fails because the SzArEx_Open() call appears to assume that you are starting at a 0 offset in the file. I am using the File_Seek() call to perform the seeking. It seems like there must be a way to do this, since the 7z archive format itself supports multiple embedded streams. Any pointers to examples would be awesome, but narrative explanation is also quite welcome!

  • why is LZMA SDK (7-zip) so slow

    - by Tono Nam
    I found 7-zip great and I will like to use it on .net applications. I have a 10MB file (a.001) and it takes: 2 seconds to encode. Now it will be nice if I could do the same thing on c#. I have downloaded http://www.7-zip.org/sdk.html LZMA SDK c# source code. I basically copied the CS directory into a console application in visual studio: Then I compiled and eveything compiled smoothly. So on the output directory I placed the file a.001 which is 10MB of size. On the main method that came on the source code I placed: [STAThread] static int Main(string[] args) { // e stands for encode args = "e a.001 output.7z".Split(' '); // added this line for debug try { return Main2(args); } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine("{0} Caught exception #1.", e); // throw e; return 1; } } when I execute the console application the application works great and I get the output a.7z on the working directory. The problem is that it takes so long. It takes about 15 seconds to execute! I have also tried http://stackoverflow.com/a/8775927/637142 approach and it also takes very long. Why is it 10 times slower than the actual program ? Also Even if I set to use only one thread: It still takes much less time (3 seconds vs 15): (Edit) Another Possibility Could it be because C# is slower than assembly or C ? I notice that the algorithm does a lot of heavy operations. For example compare these two blocks of code. They both do the same thing: C void main() { time_t now; int i,j,k,x; long counter ; counter = 0; now = time(NULL); /* LOOP */ for(x=0; x<10; x++) { counter = -1234567890 + x+2; for (j = 0; j < 10000; j++) for(i = 0; i< 1000; i++) for(k =0; k<1000; k++) { if(counter > 10000) counter = counter - 9999; else counter= counter +1; } printf (" %d \n", time(NULL) - now); // display elapsed time } printf("counter = %d\n\n",counter); // display result of counter printf ("Elapsed time = %d seconds ", time(NULL) - now); gets("Wait"); } output c# static void Main(string[] args) { DateTime now; int i, j, k, x; long counter; counter = 0; now = DateTime.Now; /* LOOP */ for (x = 0; x < 10; x++) { counter = -1234567890 + x + 2; for (j = 0; j < 10000; j++) for (i = 0; i < 1000; i++) for (k = 0; k < 1000; k++) { if (counter > 10000) counter = counter - 9999; else counter = counter + 1; } Console.WriteLine((DateTime.Now - now).Seconds.ToString()); } Console.Write("counter = {0} \n", counter.ToString()); Console.Write("Elapsed time = {0} seconds", DateTime.Now - now); Console.Read(); } Output Note how much slower was c#. Both programs where run from outside visual studio on release mode. Maybe that is the reason why it takes so much longer in .net than on c++. Conclusion I cannot seem to know what is causing the problem. I guess I will use 7z.dll and invoke the necessary methods from c#. A library that does that is at: http://sevenzipsharp.codeplex.com/ and that way I am using the same library that 7zip is using as: // dont forget to add reference to SevenZipSharp located on the link I provided static void Main(string[] args) { // load the dll SevenZip.SevenZipCompressor.SetLibraryPath(@"C:\Program Files (x86)\7-Zip\7z.dll"); SevenZip.SevenZipCompressor compress = new SevenZip.SevenZipCompressor(); compress.CompressDirectory("MyFolderToArchive", "output.7z"); }

  • Unpacking a ZTE ZXV10 H108L router firmware

    - by v3ng3ful
I binwalked a firmware of a ZTE ZXV10 H108L, and got some encouraging results of uImage uboot, and LZMA compression, as well as a Squashfs 3.0 LZMA compressed filesystem. 256 0x100 uImage header, header size: 64 bytes, header CRC: 0xE70BCBB9, created: Thu Nov 10 04:54:54 2011, image size: 804172 bytes, Data Address: 0x80002000, Entry Point: 0x80266000, data CRC: 0x6EFE90F1, OS: Linux, CPU: MIPS, image type: OS Kernel Image, compression type: lzma, image name: MIPS Linux-2.6.20 320 0x140 LZMA compressed data, properties: 0x5D, dictionary size: 8388608 bytes, uncompressed size: 2637958 bytes 851968 0xD0000 Squashfs filesystem, big endian, lzma signature, version 3.0, size: 2543403 bytes, 632 inodes, blocksize: 65536 bytes, created: Thu Nov 10 04:56:12 2011 Now what I did is, to test several portions of the file (320byte-end, 851968byte-end, and many more) using dd, and trying with certain tools to uncompress/unpack the filesystem of the firmware. After some digging I found out the best tool to do this is the firmware_mod_kit, that understands a squashfs-lzma v3 filesystem. Although I ended up really frustrated as unsquashfs-lzma v3 reported a cold "zlib::uncompress failed, unknown error -3". Do you have any ideas? Could it be that, the firmware is corrupted on purpose to discourage attempts like this? Router file Thanks

  • What does the number after 7-zip's -m switch mean?

    - by AndreKR
    7-zip has a command line switch to set the compression method, -m followed by a number, e.g. -m0=LZMA. What does the number (0 in the example) mean? Different numbers produce slightly different compression results and performance: time 7z -m0=LZMA -mx=9 -ms=on -mmt=off real 0m2.292s user 0m2.190s sys 0m0.080s time 7z -m1=LZMA -mx=9 -ms=on -mmt=off real 0m2.405s user 0m3.240s sys 0m0.070s time 7z -m0=LZMA -mx=9 -ms=on -mmt=on real 0m1.038s user 0m1.920s sys 0m0.150s time 7z -m1=LZMA -mx=9 -ms=on -mmt=on real 0m1.187s user 0m2.800s sys 0m0.130s

  • msys+mingw - is there installer or at least .tar.lzma/.zip?

    - by Maciej Piechotka
I try to install n'th time the msys+mingw - however with little success. I need the minimal developer system (standard tools such as sed/awk+autotools+gcc) however each time something is not working (for example currently when I try to run autotools m4 goes into some error loop on AC_INIT). I know they stopped providing installer 'for easy update of components' and they are working on something but maybe there is something unofficial.

  • Netcat file transfer problem

    - by thepurplepixel
    I have two custom scripts I just wrote to facilitate transferring files between my VPS and my home server. They are both written in bash (short & sweet): To send: #!/bin/bash SENDFILE=$1 PORT=$2 HOST='<my house>' HOSTIP=`host $HOST | grep "has address" | cut --delimiter=" " -f 4` echo Transferring file \"$SENDFILE\" to $HOST \($HOSTIP\). tar -c "$SENDFILE" | pv -c -N tar -i 0.5 | lzma -z -c -6 | pv -c -N lzma -i 0.5 | nc -q 1 $HOSTIP $PORT echo Done. To receive: #!/bin/bash SERVER='<myserver>' SERVERIP=`host $SERVER | grep "has address" | cut --delimiter=" " -f 4` PORT=$1 echo Receiving file from $SERVER \($SERVERIP\) on port $PORT. nc -l $PORT | pv -c -N netcat -i 0.5 | lzma -d -c | pv -c -N lzma -i 0.5 | tar -xf - echo Done. The problem is that, for a very quick second, I see something flash along the lines of "Connection Refused" (before pv overwrites it), and no file is ever transferred. The port is forwarded through my router, and nmap confirms it: ~$ sudo nmap -sU -PN -p55515 -v <my house> Starting Nmap 5.00 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2010-04-21 18:10 EDT NSE: Loaded 0 scripts for scanning. • Embedding an existing exe file into another program

    - by Milad
Is there a way to link an existing .exe file with other C++ source files during compilation? What I'm actually trying to do is to compress and decompress some files in my console program using LZMA(7zip) SDK but unfortunately it's very difficult to use for a newbie. There is a command line version of LZMA called 7za.exe and I am wondering if I can somehow embed it into my program and use it like a function. It can be easily used with system() function (which seems to be a very dangerous thing to use) but then if I send my program to someone who doesn't have 7za.exe in the right folder it won't work. I came across CreateProcess() function in windows.h header files but it seems to achieve what system() does in a more proper and advanced way. I don't know if it can actually link the exe file like an object file during compilation

  • Alien deletes .deb when converting from .rpm

    - by Andre
I'm trying to convert .rpm to .deb using alien. sudo alien -k libtetra-1.0.0-2.i386.rpm Alien says that: libtetra-1.0.0-2.i386.deb generated But when I check the folder - there is just original .rpm and no .deb. It looks like it's perhaps a bug? or I don't know. I simply installed 32-bit version of Ubuntu in VirtualBox and converted package there. For some reason I couldn't convert 32-bit package in 64 OS. and that is that. If someone ever finds the reason ffor this behavior - plz. post somewhere in comments. Thanks
