  • Confusion for mime files: magic, magic.mgc, magic.mime

    - by Florence Foo
    I'm using Ubuntu. I'm trying to use ruby gem 'shared-mime-info' for an application I'm writing. I understand that magic.mgc is a compiled version of magic file which has magic number definitions for the different file types. BUT I don't understand why is it /usr/share/mime/magic is in binary format instead of just normal text file with each parameters separated by white space like everywhere else I'm finding on the internet when it's referencing this file? The /usr/share/mime/magic has the word 'MIME-Magic' at the beginning of the file and prioritize the rest of the stuff like. So it doesn't look like magic.mgc at all. [100:application/vnd.scribus] >1=^@^KSCRIBUSUTF8 [90:application/vnd.stardivision.writer] >2089=^@ shared-mime-info seems to want a magic file in the binary non compiled format as above and I wanted to add definition for DOCX but how does one update or generate this file without using a hex editor? There is a reference to the magic file I found at: http://standards.freedesktop.org/shared-mime-info-spec/shared-mime-info-spec-latest.html And it mention this file is updated with update-mime-database but what if I just want to add some new entry to it. hex editor? Anyway I ended up using hexer to make a new magic file in ~/.local/share/mime/ with only the entry I wanted to add and the MIME-Magic header. Seems to work (assuming I will ever deal with docx for now). 00000000: 4d 49 4d 45 2d 4d 61 67 69 63 00 0a 5b 36 30 3a MIME-Magic..[60: 00000010: 61 70 70 6c 69 63 61 74 69 6f 6e 2f 76 6e 64 2e application/vnd. 00000020: 6f 70 65 6e 78 6d 6c 66 6f 72 6d 61 74 73 2d 6f openxmlformats-o 00000030: 66 66 69 63 65 64 6f 63 75 6d 65 6e 74 2e 77 6f fficedocument.wo 00000040: 72 64 70 72 6f 63 65 73 73 69 6e 67 6d 6c 2e 64 rdprocessingml.d 00000050: 6f 63 75 6d 65 6e 74 5d 0a 3e 30 3d 00 08 50 4b ocument].>0=..PK 00000060: 03 04 14 00 06 00 0a -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- .......---------

  • mime-attachment incompatibility on forwarded messages from android to an iphone

    - by Peter Carrero
A couple of guys got the evo android in the office. I got an iphone. When I receive a forwarded email from one of those phones, the forwarded piece comes as a mime-attachment that the iphone cannot open. I also tried this with a motorola droid and got the same result. I am not sure if the issue is the android sending the message on the wrong format or the iphone not being able to understand a mime type that it should... Has anyone experienced this, and, most importantly, found a fix/workaround? Thanks.

  • Server reporting incorrect mime type for css files

We have a VPS server that we host our websites on. I have written a CMS using CodeIgniter. On one of the interfaces, I am attempting to upload a css file to the system. This worked correctly when we had it hosted on shared hosting. Since we've moved it to the VPS, I am getting an "incorrect filetype" error. It all comes down to the fact that the server is reporting a mime type of text/x-c for the css file rather than text/css. I logged in via shell and ran the following command on an existing valid css file (to make sure it wasn't an issue with either CodeIgniter or with php). file --brief --mime 'filename.css' 2>&1 The server gave me the following in response to my command: text/x-c; charset=us-ascii My question ... is there some sort of server setting that I need to tweak to get the server to correctly identify the css file as text/css? Do I just have to add a mime type for the css files to the server? I found the mime types file (etc/mime.types), and it just hase video types and a couple other that I have no idea what they are. There is nothing in there for css or images or html files. Unless I'm looking in the wrong spot. I'm not a server person, so I'm hoping someone can help me out. • NGINX MIME TYPE

    I have my nginx conf file so that when ever a mobile device visits my site the url gets rewritten to m.mysite.com I did it by adding the following set $mobile_rewrite do_not_perform; if ($http_user_agent ~* "android.+mobile|avantgo|bada\/|blackberry|blazer|compal|elaine|fennec|hiptop|iemobile|ip(hone|od)|iris|kindle|lge |maemo|midp|mmp|netfront|opera m(ob|in)i|palm( os)?|phone|p(ixi|re)\/|plucker|pocket|psp|symbian|treo|up\.(browser|link)|vodafone|wap|windows (ce|phone)|xda|xiino") { set $mobile_rewrite perform; } if ($http_user_agent ~* "^(1207|6310|6590|3gso|4thp|50[1-6]i|770s|802s|a wa|abac|ac(er|oo|s\-)|ai(ko|rn)|al(av|ca|co)|amoi|an(ex|ny|yw)|aptu|ar(ch|go)|as(te|us)|attw|au(di|\-m|r |s )|avan|be(ck|ll|nq)|bi(lb|rd)|bl(ac|az)|br(e|v)w|bumb|bw\-(n|u)|c55\/|capi|ccwa|cdm\-|cell|chtm|cldc|cmd\-|co(mp|nd)|craw|da(it|ll|ng)|dbte|dc\-s|devi|dica|dmob|do(c|p)o|ds(12|\-d)|el(49|ai)|em(l2|ul)|er(ic|k0)|esl8|ez([4-7]0|os|wa|ze)|fetc|fly(\-|_)|g1 u|g560|gene|gf\-5|g\-mo|go(\.w|od)|gr(ad|un)|haie|hcit|hd\-(m|p|t)|hei\-|hi(pt|ta)|hp( i|ip)|hs\-c|ht(c(\-| |_|a|g|p|s|t)|tp)|hu(aw|tc)|i\-(20|go|ma)|i230|iac( |\-|\/)|ibro|idea|ig01|ikom|im1k|inno|ipaq|iris|ja(t|v)a|jbro|jemu|jigs|kddi|keji|kgt( |\/)|klon|kpt |kwc\-|kyo(c|k)|le(no|xi)|lg( g|\/(k|l|u)|50|54|e\-|e\/|\-[a-w])|libw|lynx|m1\-w|m3ga|m50\/|ma(te|ui|xo)|mc(01|21|ca)|m\-cr|me(di|rc|ri)|mi(o8|oa|ts)|mmef|mo(01|02|bi|de|do|t(\-| |o|v)|zz)|mt(50|p1|v )|mwbp|mywa|n10[0-2]|n20[2-3]|n30(0|2)|n50(0|2|5)|n7(0(0|1)|10)|ne((c|m)\-|on|tf|wf|wg|wt)|nok(6|i)|nzph|o2im|op(ti|wv)|oran|owg1|p800|pan(a|d|t)|pdxg|pg(13|\-([1-8]|c))|phil|pire|pl(ay|uc)|pn\-2|po(ck|rt|se)|prox|psio|pt\-g|qa\-a|qc(07|12|21|32|60|\-[2-7]|i\-)|qtek|r380|r600|raks|rim9|ro(ve|zo)|s55\/|sa(ge|ma|mm|ms|ny|va)|sc(01|h\-|oo|p\-)|sdk\/|se(c(\-|0|1)|47|mc|nd|ri)|sgh\-|shar|sie(\-|m)|sk\-0|sl(45|id)|sm(al|ar|b3|it|t5)|so(ft|ny)|sp(01|h\-|v\-|v )|sy(01|mb)|t2(18|50)|t6(00|10|18)|ta(gt|lk)|tcl\-|tdg\-|tel(i|m)|tim\-|t\-mo|to(pl|sh)|ts(70|m\-|m3|m5)|tx\-9|up(\.b|g1|si)|utst|v400|v750|veri|vi(rg|te)|vk(40|5[0-3]|\-v)|vm40|voda|vulc|vx(52|53|60|61|70|80|81|83|85|98)|w3c(\-| )|webc|whit|wi(g |nc|nw)|wmlb|wonu|x700|xda(\-|2|g)|yas\-|your|zeto|zte\-)") { set $mobile_rewrite perform; } if ($mobile_rewrite = perform) { rewrite ^ http://m.mywebsite.com redirect; break; } I got it from http://detectmobilebrowsers.com/ IT WORKS.But none of my images/js/css files load only the HTML. • Ubuntu: Getting rid of a mimetype entry

    - by Epaga
I have a pesky mimetype entry that I can't seem to get rid of. Here is the current situation: xdg-mime query filetype myfile.mfe application/pesky Using assogiate I have found out the information about this mime type entry (but can't delete it there). I have the following 'pesky.xml' XML file which was used to create the mime type (as far as I can tell, since it exactly matches the entry in assogiate...): <?xml version='1.0'?> <mime-info xmlns='http://www.freedesktop.org/standard'> <mime-type type="application/pesky"> <comment>my pesky type</comment> <glob pattern="*.mfe"/> <magic priority="100"> <match type="string" offset="0" value="application/pesky"/> </magic> </mime-type> <mime-info> However, the following has no effect: sudo xdg-mime uninstall --mode system --novendor pesky.xml The file association remains. Any ideas?

  • Utility for extracting MIME attachments

    - by tripleee
I am looking for a command-line tool for Unix (ideally, available in a Debian / Ubuntu package) for extracting all MIME parts from a multipart email message (or the body from a singlepart with an interesting content-type, for that matter). I have been using the mimeexplode tool which ships with the Perl MIME::Tools package, but it's not really production quality (the script is included as an example only, and has issues with what it regards as "evil" character sets) and I could certainly roll my own script based on that, but if this particular wheel has already been innovated, perhaps I shouldn't.

  • Proper MIME type for fonts

    - by David Hedlund
Searching the web, I find heaps of different suggestions for what the proper MIME type for a font is, but I have yet to try any MIME type that rids me of a Chrome warning such as the following: Resource interpreted as font but transferred with MIME type font/otf The font is an OTF. I've tried the following MIME types so far font/otf application/font-otf application/font application/otf application/octet-stream application/x-font-otf application/x-font-TrueType (I know it's not truetype, but one source quoted this for OTF)

  • How change Subversion's default binary mime-type?

    - by lamcro
Subversion sets a binary file's svn:mime-type property to application/octet-stream by default. I need to change this default to some other mime-type. When I import for the first time this code, I would like Subversion to set mime-type to the one I choose. The reason is that my code base contains code in binary files (proprietary format), and I have the applications necessary to emulate diff and diff3 for these. But Subversion does not let me due to their default mime-type. Please note: There is no default extension (*.jar, *.py, etc) for these code files. Some files don't even have an extension. So configuring mime-type by file extension is not possible.

  • How to add a MIME handler to Firefox and Internet Explorer from an installer

    - by JustSmith
I'm looking to create an installer that will add a handler for a MIME type in Firefox and Explorer. The installer I will be using will be either INNO (a.k.a Oh Nooo!) or NSIS. I'm looking for for how Mozilla and Microsoft recommend adding the handler. So far all I have been able to find for Firefox is how to Add/Remove/Augment manually which no matter how simple is something I would like to hide from the user.

  • How detect the file type (MIME) without considering the file extension?

    - by stuzzo
I find a similar post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/58510/using-net-how-can-you-find-the-mime-type-of-a-file-based-on-the-file-signature and it is the same result I want, I tried to use it but I received always application/octet-stream instead of video/x-flv or video/x-msvideo. I think I miss something, have you any suggest for me? Should I add some kind of information on my workspace?

  • Extract attachments from Mbox throw MIME

    - by Simeon
I am a littlebit frustrated, im working on a project with the aim to build a system witch print automatically e-mail attachments of incoming mails ("E-Mail to Print"-system). I already set up a e-mail server (exim4) which receive perfectly e-mail and stores them to a mbox in /var/mail/ - now I want to extract the attachments out of the mbox file throw MIME to the original .PDF, .DOC, .JPG, .GIF, ... and save them in a directory, from where they get print. After the e-mail attachments got extracted they should be deleted, so they don't get extracted again. But how can I get this to work? I am not a coder, so I looked for existing scripts and programs but found nothing to work with. Could anyone give me little help - I would be very thankful! Thanks, Simeon

  • Difference between adding MIME types in IIS via Websites vs Local Computer?

    - by Alex Key
What is the difference between adding MIME types in these 2 different situations? When in IIS 6 manager... Right click on the computer name (local computer) properties mime types Right click on the "Web sites" folder properties http headers mime types I'm guessing that perhaps option 1 adds MIME types for FTP also? However if that were true i'd expect to be able to add MIME types specifically in the properties of FTP (and not just websites). thanks for your help.

  • Parse and display MIME multipart email on website

    - by aidan
I have a raw email, (MIME multipart), and I want to display this on a website (e.g. in an iframe, with tabs for the HTML part and the plain text part, etc.). Are there any CPAN modules or Template::Toolkit plugins that I can use to help me achieve this? At the moment, it's looking like I'll have to parse the message with Email::MIME, then iterate over all the parts, and write a handler for all the different mime types. It's a long shot, but I'm wondering if anyone has done all this already? It's going to be a long and error prone process writing handlers if I attempt it myself. Thanks for any help.

  • Getting A File's Mime Type In Java

    - by Lee Theobald
I was just wondering how most people fetch a mime type from a file in Java? So far I've tried two utils: JMimeMagic & Mime-Util. The first gave me memory exceptions, the second doesn't close its streams off properly. I was just wondering if anyone else had a method/library that they used and worked correctly?

  • Override mime type with VS Web Dev Server

    - by Douglas
I would like to serve xbaps from the VS web dev server (cassini) to Firefox, but when served from the dev server, Firefox offers to download this file. As far as I can tell, this is because the dev server is serving the xbap file with a mime type of "application/octet-stream" instead of "application/x-ms-xbap", which works when served from IIS. Does anyone know how to change the mime type which the dev server uses for *.xbap files?

  • QFileDialog filter from mime-types

    - by Mathias
    I want the filter in a QFileDialog to match all audio file types supported by Phonon on the platform in question. 1 - However I am not able to find a way in Qt to use mime types in a filter. How can I do that? 2 - Or how can I find the corresponding file extensions for the mimetypes manually? The solution should be Qt based, or at least be cross platform and supported everywhere Qt is. Following is a short code describing my problem: #include <QApplication> #include <QFileDialog> #include <QStringList> #include <phonon/backendcapabilities.h> QString mime_to_ext(QString mime) { // WHAT TO REALLY DO ?? // NEEDLESS TO SAY; THIS IS WRONG... return mime.split("/").back().split('-').back(); } int main(int argc, char **argv) { QApplication app(argc, argv); QStringList p_audio_exts; QStringList p_mime_types = Phonon::BackendCapabilities::availableMimeTypes(); for(QStringList::iterator i = p_mime_types.begin(), ie = p_mime_types.end(); i != ie; i++) { if((*i).startsWith("audio")) p_audio_exts << mime_to_ext(*i); } QString filter = QString("All Files(*)"); if(!p_audio_exts.isEmpty()) { QString p_audio_filter = QString("Audio Files (*.%1)").arg(p_audio_exts.join(" *.")); filter = QString("%1;;%2").arg(p_audio_filter).arg(filter); } QFileDialog dialog(NULL, "Open Audio File", QString::null, filter); dialog.exec(); }
