  • Problem getting weeks in a month with NSCalendar...

    - by AngrySpade
    I am creating a calendar control of sorts... One thing I need to know is how many weeks are there in a Month... So NSCalendar rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate Seems to be exactly what I need... Except I am noticing something that seems off and I can't quite figure out why this is happening... The following code... NSCalendar *calendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSDateComponents *dateComponents = [[NSDateComponents alloc] init]; [dateComponents setYear: 2010]; [dateComponents setDay: 1]; for (int x=1; x<=12; x++) { [dateComponents setMonth: x]; NSDate *date = [calendar dateFromComponents:dateComponents]; NSLog(@"Date: %@", date); NSRange range = [calendar rangeOfUnit: NSWeekCalendarUnit inUnit: NSMonthCalendarUnit forDate:date]; NSLog(@"%d Weeks in Month %d", range.length, [dateComponents month]); } Is returning the following debug messages... 2010-03-14 13:08:10.350 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-01-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.351 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 1 2010-03-14 13:08:10.352 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-02-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.352 Scrap[4256:207] 4 Weeks in Month 2 2010-03-14 13:08:10.353 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-03-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.353 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 3 2010-03-14 13:08:10.354 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-04-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.355 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 4 2010-03-14 13:08:10.356 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-05-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.357 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 5 2010-03-14 13:08:10.358 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-06-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.358 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 6 2010-03-14 13:08:10.359 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-07-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.360 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 7 2010-03-14 13:08:10.361 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-08-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.364 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 8 2010-03-14 13:08:10.364 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-09-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.365 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 9 2010-03-14 13:08:10.366 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-10-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.366 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 10 2010-03-14 13:08:10.367 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-11-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.367 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 11 2010-03-14 13:08:10.369 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-12-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.369 Scrap[4256:207] 52 Weeks in Month 12 I cant quite figure out why I get 52 weeks in month 12. Any clues? Edit on 3/20/2010: Seeing as how I couldnt use rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate to calculate the number of weeks in a month. I decided to figure out a different way of calculating the same value. I figured I should do this in a non-Gregorian localized way, so I attempted to start with getting the number of days in a week, but I got the result of 28 days in a week. So I started writing more code to figure out why... I wanted to make sure that the type of NSCalendar that I was playing with was in fact what I was supposed to be getting... And that led me to finding some differences... NSCalendar *currentCalendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSLog(@"Calendar with 'currentCalendar' Identifier: %@", [currentCalendar calendarIdentifier]); NSCalendar *calendarWithIdentifier = [[[NSCalendar alloc] initWithCalendarIdentifier: NSGregorianCalendar] autorelease]; NSLog(@"Calendar created with identifier Identifier: %@", [calendarWithIdentifier calendarIdentifier]); NSDate *now = [[NSDate alloc] init]; NSDateComponents *currentMonth = [currentCalendar components: NSMonthCalendarUnit | NSYearCalendarUnit fromDate: now]; NSDate *currentMonthDate = [currentCalendar dateFromComponents: currentMonth]; NSRange daysInWeekRange = [currentCalendar rangeOfUnit: NSDayCalendarUnit inUnit: NSWeekCalendarUnit forDate: currentMonthDate]; NSLog(@"CurrentCalendar: Length:%u Location:%u", daysInWeekRange.length, daysInWeekRange.location); currentMonth = [calendarWithIdentifier components: NSMonthCalendarUnit | NSYearCalendarUnit fromDate: now]; currentMonthDate = [calendarWithIdentifier dateFromComponents: currentMonth]; daysInWeekRange = [calendarWithIdentifier rangeOfUnit: NSDayCalendarUnit inUnit: NSWeekCalendarUnit forDate: currentMonthDate]; NSLog(@"GregorianCalendar: Length:%u Location:%u", daysInWeekRange.length, daysInWeekRange.location); And that got me the following log results... 2010-03-20 21:02:27.245 Scrap[52189:207] Calendar with 'currentCalendar' Identifier: gregorian 2010-03-20 21:02:27.246 Scrap[52189:207] Calendar created with identifier Identifier: gregorian 2010-03-20 21:02:27.248 Scrap[52189:207] CurrentCalendar: Length:28 Location:1 2010-03-20 21:02:27.249 Scrap[52189:207] GregorianCalendar: Length:7 Location:1 Taking direction from @CarlNorum's experience, I compiled the code snippet as a 10.6 Cocoa application, and I got the following... 2010-03-20 21:05:35.636 ScrapCocoa[52238:a0f] Calendar with 'currentCalendar' Identifier: gregorian 2010-03-20 21:05:35.636 ScrapCocoa[52238:a0f] Calendar created with identifier Identifier: gregorian 2010-03-20 21:05:35.637 ScrapCocoa[52238:a0f] CurrentCalendar: Length:6 Location:1 2010-03-20 21:05:35.638 ScrapCocoa[52238:a0f] GregorianCalendar: Length:7 Location:1 I saw hope in that creating a NSCalendar Instance explicitly as a Gregorian Calendar would lead to better results in my original problem... So I modified that original code NSCalendar *currentCalendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSLog(@"Calendar with 'currentCalendar' Identifier: %@", [currentCalendar calendarIdentifier]); NSCalendar *calendarWithIdentifier = [[[NSCalendar alloc] initWithCalendarIdentifier: NSGregorianCalendar] autorelease]; NSLog(@"Calendar created with identifier Identifier: %@", [calendarWithIdentifier calendarIdentifier]); NSDateComponents *dateComponents = [[[NSDateComponents alloc] init] autorelease]; [dateComponents setYear: 2010]; [dateComponents setDay: 1]; for (int x=1; x<=12; x++) { [dateComponents setMonth: x]; NSDate *date = [currentCalendar dateFromComponents: dateComponents]; NSRange range = [currentCalendar rangeOfUnit: NSWeekCalendarUnit inUnit: NSMonthCalendarUnit forDate: date]; • Problem getting weeks in a month...

    - by AngrySpade
    I am creating a calendar control of sorts... One thing I need to know is how many weeks are there in a Month... So NSCalendar rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate Seems to be exactly what I need... Except I am noticing something that seems off and I can't quite figure out why this is happening... The following code... NSCalendar *calendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSDateComponents *dateComponents = [[NSDateComponents alloc] init]; [dateComponents setYear: 2010]; [dateComponents setDay: 1]; for (int x=1; x<=12; x++) { [dateComponents setMonth: x]; NSDate *date = [calendar dateFromComponents:dateComponents]; NSLog(@"Date: %@", date); NSRange range = [calendar rangeOfUnit: NSWeekCalendarUnit inUnit: NSMonthCalendarUnit forDate:date]; NSLog(@"%d Weeks in Month %d", range.length, [dateComponents month]); } Is returning the following debug messages... 2010-03-14 13:08:10.350 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-01-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.351 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 1 2010-03-14 13:08:10.352 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-02-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.352 Scrap[4256:207] 4 Weeks in Month 2 2010-03-14 13:08:10.353 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-03-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.353 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 3 2010-03-14 13:08:10.354 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-04-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.355 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 4 2010-03-14 13:08:10.356 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-05-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.357 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 5 2010-03-14 13:08:10.358 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-06-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.358 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 6 2010-03-14 13:08:10.359 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-07-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.360 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 7 2010-03-14 13:08:10.361 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-08-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.364 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 8 2010-03-14 13:08:10.364 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-09-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.365 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 9 2010-03-14 13:08:10.366 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-10-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.366 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 10 2010-03-14 13:08:10.367 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-11-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.367 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 11 2010-03-14 13:08:10.369 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-12-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.369 Scrap[4256:207] 52 Weeks in Month 12 I cant quite figure out why I get 52 weeks in month 12. Any clues? Edit on 3/20/2010: Seeing as how I couldnt use rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate to calculate the number of weeks in a month. I decided to figure out a different way of calculating the same value. I figured I should do this in a non-Gregorian localized way, so I attempted to start with getting the number of days in a week, but I got the result of 28 days in a week. So I started writing more code to figure out why... I wanted to make sure that the type of NSCalendar that I was playing with was in fact what I was supposed to be getting... And that led me to finding some differences...   • How to: group by month with SQL

    - by AngelEyes
    I took this particular code from http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/jeffs/archive/2007/09/10/group-by-month-sql.aspx, a good read. Shows you what to avoid and why.   The recommended technique is the following:   GROUP BY dateadd(month, datediff(month, 0, SomeDate),0)   By the way, in the "select" clause, you can use the following:   SELECT         month(dateadd(month, datediff(month, 0, SomeDate),0)) as [month],         year(dateadd(month, datediff(month, 0, SomeDate),0)) as [year],   Just remember to also sort properly if needed:   ORDER BY dateadd(month, datediff(month, 0, SomeDate),0)

  • EXSLT date:format-date template without document() XSLT 1.0

    - by DashaLuna
    Hello guys, I'm using date:format-date template EXSLT file I'm using XSLT 1.0 and MSXML3.0 as the processor. My date:format-date template EXSLT file's declaration is: <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:msxsl="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xslt" xmlns:tui="http://www.travelbound.co.uk/" xmlns:date="http://exslt.org/dates-and-times" exclude-result-prefixes="msxsl tui date" version="1.0"> ... </xsl:stylesheet> I cannot use document() function due to the 3rd party restrictions. So I have changed the months and days (similarly) from XML snippet: <date:months> <date:month length="31" abbr="Jan">January</date:month> <date:month length="28" abbr="Feb">February</date:month> <date:month length="31" abbr="Mar">March</date:month> <date:month length="30" abbr="Apr">April</date:month> <date:month length="31" abbr="May">May</date:month> <date:month length="30" abbr="Jun">June</date:month> <date:month length="31" abbr="Jul">July</date:month> <date:month length="31" abbr="Aug">August</date:month> <date:month length="30" abbr="Sep">September</date:month> <date:month length="31" abbr="Oct">October</date:month> <date:month length="30" abbr="Nov">November</date:month> <date:month length="31" abbr="Dec">December</date:month> </date:months> to the variable: <xsl:variable name="months"> <month length="31" abbr="Jan">January</month> <month length="28" abbr="Feb">February</month> <month length="31" abbr="Mar">March</month> <month length="30" abbr="Apr">April</month> <month length="31" abbr="May">May</month> <month length="30" abbr="Jun">June</month> <month length="31" abbr="Jul">July</month> <month length="31" abbr="Aug">August</month> <month length="30" abbr="Sep">September</month> <month length="31" abbr="Oct">October</month> <month length="30" abbr="Nov">November</month> <month length="31" abbr="Dec">December</month> </xsl:variable> And correspondingly, I've changed the code that originally uses document() function from: [from month processing bit of EXSLT stylesheet] <xsl:variable name="month-node" select="document('')/*/date:months/date:month[number($month)]" /> to use MSXML3.0 node-set function: <xsl:variable name="month-node" select="msxsl:node-set($months)/month[number($month)]" /> So I assumed that this would work. According to the EXLT instructions "The format pattern string is interpreted as described for the JDK 1.1 SimpleDateFormat class." [I used current version]. I'm specifing the month in accordance to SimpleDateFormat class as 'dd MMMMM yyyy' so that the month will be the full month's name, for example January. But it doesn't work :( I've looked in EXSLT stylesheet and it has got the logic to do that. Also there is logic to display the name of the week for a day using 'E' pattern, which doesn't work for me. Maybe changing from using document() to variables broke it. Would really appreciate any help. Many thanks!

  • python calendar to calculate month backwards

    - by Suhail
    Hi, we are trying to create a calendar function in python. we have created a small content management system, the requirement is, there will be a drop down list on the top right hand corner of the website, which will give the options - Months - 1 month, 2 months, 3 months and so on..., if the user selects 8 months then it should show the postscount for the last 8 months. the issue is we tried to write a small code which would do the month calculations, but the bug is that it does not consider the months beyond the current year, it shows the postscount only for months of the current year. for example: if the user selects 3 months, it will show the count for the l 3 months i.e present month and the previous 2 months, but if the user selects option more than 4 months, it does not consider the months from previous year, it still shows the month of the present year only. I am pasting the code below:- def __getSpecifiedMailCount__(request, value): dbconnector= DBConnector() CdateList= "select cdate from mail_records" DateNow= datetime.datetime.today() DateNow= DateNow.strftime("%Y-%m") DateYear= datetime.datetime.today() DateYear= DateYear.strftime("%Y") DateMonth= datetime.datetime.today() DateMonth= DateMonth.strftime("%m") #print DateMonth def getMonth(value): valueDic= {"01": "Jan", "02": "Feb", "03": "Mar", "04": "Apr", "05": "May", "06": "Jun", "07": "Jul", "08": "Aug", "09": "Sep", "10": "Oct", "11": "Nov", "12": "Dec"} return valueDic[value] def getMonthYearandCount(yearmonth): MailCount= "select count(*) as mailcount from mail_records where cdate like '%s%s'" % (yearmonth, "%") MailCountResult= MailCount[0]['mailcount'] return MailCountResult MailCountList= [] MCOUNT= getMonthYearandCount(DateNow) MONTH= getMonth(DateMonth) MailCountDict= {} MailCountDict['monthyear']= MONTH + ' ' + DateYear MailCountDict['mailcount']= MCOUNT var_monthyear= MONTH + ' ' + DateYear var_mailcount= MCOUNT MailCountList.append(MailCountDict) i=1 k= int(value) hereMONTH= int(DateMonth) while (i < k): hereMONTH= int(hereMONTH) - 1 if (hereMONTH < 10): hereMONTH = '0' + str(hereMONTH) if (hereMONTH == '00') or (hereMONTH == '0-1'): break else: PMONTH= getMonth(hereMONTH) hereDateNow= DateYear + '-' + PMONTH hereDateNowNum= DateYear + '-' + hereMONTH PMCOUNT= getMonthYearandCount(hereDateNowNum) MailCountDict= {} MailCountDict['monthyear']= PMONTH + ' ' + DateYear MailCountDict['mailcount']= PMCOUNT var_monthyear= PMONTH + ' ' + DateYear var_mailcount= PMCOUNT MailCountList.append(MailCountDict) i = i + 1 #print MailCountList MailCountDict= {'monthmailcount': MailCountList} reportdata = MailCountDict['monthmailcount'] #print reportdata return render_to_response('test.html', locals())

  • Add characters to month loop?

    - by JM4
    I currently have a php loop running exactly how I need it with proper validations (in both php and javascript) with one exception, if the month is less than 2 digits, (i.e. 1,2,3,4), I need for a '0' to appear before: 01 - January 02 - February ... 10 - October My code for the loop is currently: <select name="Month"> <option value="">Month</option> <?php for ($i=1; $i<=12; $i++) { echo "<option value='$i'"; if ($fields["Month"] == $i) echo " selected"; echo ">$i</option>"; } ?> </select> any ideas? Also note, this month date is being stored in session, not interested in printing to screen

  • jquery fullcalendar - viewDisplay to pass selected month to events (reload events per month)

    - by newbieToFullCalendar
    Hi, How can I pass the selected month from viewDisplay to the events function (which is a php call to the DB to load the events)? Only events for one month should get loaded at a time, but I'm afraid of what might happen if the user decides to click 'next' multiple times really quickly... My other option is to load 6 months forward and 6 months backwards of events so when the user moves between months, it would be seamless, but there are at least three events per day everyday so I'm guessing that would take some time to load. $('#calendar').fullCalendar({ theme: true, slotMinutes: 60, defaultView: 'month', lazyFetching: false, viewDisplay: function(view) { document.forms[0].elements['currentMonth'].value = view.title; alert('The new title of the view is ' + document.forms[0].elements['currentMonth'].value); }, events: <?php include('load_json_events.php'); ?> });

  • what is the most elegant way of showing first week in a month

    - by ooo
    In C#, i want to show the first week in a calendar (in a html table) and i am trying to figure out the most elegant algorithm to generate the right days. If the first day of the week is not Sunday, i want to show the days of preceding month (like you would see on a regular calendar). So, as an input you have a current month. In this case May. I want to generate this: Month: May <table> <tr> <th>S</th> <th>M</th> <th>T</th> <th>W</th> <th>TH</th> <th>F</th> <th>Sa</th> </tr> <tr> <td>25</td> <td>26</td> <td>27</td> <td>28</td> <td>29</td> <td>30</td> <td>1</td> </tr></table> so it should display something like this (ignore the alignment) S | M | T | W | Th | F | Sa | 25 - 26 - 27 - 28 - 29 - 30 - 1 given that each month would have the start of day be a different day of the week, i am trying to figure out an elegant way to get the values of this data using the DateTime object. I see it has a dayofweek property on a date. i am generating this table in C# on my server to pass down to a html page.

  • Given year, month and day, all in int, how would I generate an NSDate

    - by BU
    I think the solution is really simple, I just haven't come across it online. Suppose I am given int year, int month, int day, int hour, int min, int sec.. how do I generate NSDate out of it? I know we can use [NSDate initWithString:] but I think it gets complicated if month/day/hour/min/sec are one digit numbers. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Selecting records with specific month and year in SQL Server 2005

    - by John
    I want to list records with a particular month and year. The table name is 'Arrival' and 'date' is the field that stores the date that the record was added. This is to be done from a C# application. For example, if the user selects month as 'April' and year as '2009' in the application, it will list all the records that were added on April,2009. (I only need the query, hope I can figure out the rest :) )

  • Hover-to-click on jQuery UI datePicker 'next month' and 'prev month' not working

    - by user316727
    Hi there, I have a calendar which is meant to look much like the calendar in Outlook. There is a big field representing the hours in a day, and there is a date navigator. The navigator is the jQuery UI Datepicker. I want users to be able to navigate to a new day by clicking on a date in the datepicker, but also to be able to drag appointments over the datepicker and drop them on a specific date. I have that working now. I also want users, while they are dragging an appointment, to be able to move to next or previous month simply by hovering over the datepicker. So I've added a mouseenter and mouseleave event: one runs a setInterval function which sends a click every 1,5 seconds; the other cancels the interval function. This is where all sorts of things go wrong. As soon as one click has been triggered, the mouseleave function no longer works: in other words, the datepicker keeps flipping over to another month every 1,5 seconds. It seems that the datePicker interferes, or that the click event causes other things to go wrong. What can I do?

  • Jquery getJSON populate select menu question...

    - by Scott
    I am populating a select menu with getJSON. I am wondering if there's a way that I can use jQuery's .each function to bring in these values? Surely there must be an easier way to accomplish this...maybe? PHP file: <?php $queryMonth = "SELECT monthID, month FROM months"; $result = $db->query($queryMonth); while($rowMonth = $db->fetch_assoc($result)) : $data[] = $rowMonth; endwhile; echo json_encode($data); ?> The jQuery: $.getJSON('selectMenus.php', function(data){ $("select.month").append("<option value=" + data[0].monthID + ">" + data[0].month + "</option>"); $("select.month").append("<option value=" + data[1].monthID + ">" + data[1].month + "</option>"); $("select.month").append("<option value=" + data[2].monthID + ">" + data[2].month + "</option>"); $("select.month").append("<option value=" + data[3].monthID + ">" + data[3].month + "</option>"); $("select.month").append("<option value=" + data[4].monthID + ">" + data[4].month + "</option>"); $("select.month").append("<option value=" + data[5].monthID + ">" + data[5].month + "</option>"); $("select.month").append("<option value=" + data[6].monthID + ">" + data[6].month + "</option>"); $("select.month").append("<option value=" + data[7].monthID + ">" + data[7].month + "</option>"); $("select.month").append("<option value=" + data[8].monthID + ">" + data[8].month + "</option>"); $("select.month").append("<option value=" + data[9].monthID + ">" + data[9].month + "</option>"); $("select.month").append("<option value=" + data[10].monthID + ">" + data[10].month + "</option>"); $("select.month").append("<option value=" + data[11].monthID + ">" + data[11].month + "</option>"); }); my json output looks like this: [{"monthID":"1","month":"January"},{"monthID":"2","month":"February"},{"monthID":"3","month":"March"},{"monthID":"4","month":"April"},{"monthID":"5","month":"May"},{"monthID":"6","month":"June"},{"monthID":"7","month":"July"},{"monthID":"8","month":"August"},{"monthID":"9","month":"Septemeber"},{"monthID":"10","month":"October"},{"monthID":"11","month":"November"},{"monthID":"12","month":"December"}]

  • SQL SERVER – Validating If Date is Last Day of the Year, Month or Day

    - by Pinal Dave
    Here is one more question I recently received in an email- “Pinal, is there any ready made function which will display if the given date is the last day or the year, month or day? For example, if a date is the last day of the Year and last day of the month, I want to display Last Day of the Year and if a date is the last date of the month and last day of the week, I want to display the last day of the week. “ Well, very interesting question and there is no such function available for the same. However, here is the function I have written earlier for my personal use where I almost accomplish same task. -- Example of Year DECLARE @Day DATETIME SET @Day = '2014-12-31' SELECT CASE WHEN CAST(@Day AS DATE) = CAST(DATEADD(ms,-3,DATEADD(yy,0,DATEADD(yy,DATEDIFF(yy,0,@Day)+1,0))) AS DATE) THEN 'LastDayofYear' WHEN CAST(@Day AS DATE) = CAST(DATEADD(s,-1,DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(m,0,@Day)+1,0)) AS DATE) THEN 'LastDayofMonth' WHEN CAST(@Day AS DATE) = CAST(DATEADD(s,-1,DATEADD(wk, DATEDIFF(wk,0,@Day),0)) AS DATE) THEN 'LastDayofWeek' ELSE 'Day' END GO -- Example of Month DECLARE @Day DATETIME SET @Day = '2014-06-30' SELECT CASE WHEN CAST(@Day AS DATE) = CAST(DATEADD(ms,-3,DATEADD(yy,0,DATEADD(yy,DATEDIFF(yy,0,@Day)+1,0))) AS DATE) THEN 'LastDayofYear' WHEN CAST(@Day AS DATE) = CAST(DATEADD(s,-1,DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(m,0,@Day)+1,0)) AS DATE) THEN 'LastDayofMonth' WHEN CAST(@Day AS DATE) = CAST(DATEADD(s,-1,DATEADD(wk, DATEDIFF(wk,0,@Day),0)) AS DATE) THEN 'LastDayofWeek' ELSE 'Day' END GO -- Example of Month DECLARE @Day DATETIME SET @Day = '2014-05-04' SELECT CASE WHEN CAST(@Day AS DATE) = CAST(DATEADD(ms,-3,DATEADD(yy,0,DATEADD(yy,DATEDIFF(yy,0,@Day)+1,0))) AS DATE) THEN 'LastDayofYear' WHEN CAST(@Day AS DATE) = CAST(DATEADD(s,-1,DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(m,0,@Day)+1,0)) AS DATE) THEN 'LastDayofMonth' WHEN CAST(@Day AS DATE) = CAST(DATEADD(s,-1,DATEADD(wk, DATEDIFF(wk,0,@Day),0)) AS DATE) THEN 'LastDayofWeek' ELSE 'Day' END GO Let me know if you know any other smarter trick and we can post it here with due credit.
