  • NSInteger differences between CLI and GUI ?

    I've been building a framework and writing unit tests in GHUnit. One of my Framework's accessor methods returns an NSInteger. I assert the expected value in the tests like this: GHAssertEquals(1320, request.port, @"Port number should be 1320"); When running my tests with an AppKit UI based frontend this assertion passes. However, when I run my tests on the command line, it fails with a type-mismatch unless I type-cast my hard-coded 1320 as (NSInteger). What's causing the difference in the way the integer is being interpreted by the compiler? Is xcodebuild on the command line using a different data-type for hard coded integers?

    Hi. I'm having some trouble passing a number as an argument for a method: -(void) meth2:(int)next_int; And to call that method i need this: int next_int = 1; [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(meth2:) withObject:next_int waitUntilDone:NO]; //update next_int and call meth2 again at this point i get a "pointer from integer without a cast" error, and would happen the same with a NSInteger. A NSNumber is not useful because it's immutable and i need to change the value constantly. Any Idea how can i do this? Thanks.

  • Incorrect value for sum of two NSIntegers

    Hi everybody: I'm sure I'm missing something and the answer is very simple, but I can't seem to understand why this is happening. I'm trying to make an average of dates: NSInteger runningSum =0; NSInteger count=0; for (EventoData *event in self.events) { NSDate *dateFromString = [[NSDate alloc] init]; if (event.date != nil) { dateFromString = [dateFormatter dateFromString:event.date]; runningSum += (NSInteger)[dateFromString timeIntervalSince1970]; count += 1; } } if (count>0) { NSLog(@"average is: %@",[NSDate dateWithTimeIntervalSince1970:(NSInteger)((CGFloat)runningAverage/count)]); } Everything seems to work OK, except for runningSum += (NSInteger)[dateFromString timeIntervalSince1970], which gives an incorrect result. If I put a breakpoint when taking the average of two equal dates (2009-10-10, for example, which is a timeInterval of 1255125600), runningSum is -1784716096, instead of the expected 2510251200. I've tried using NSNumber and I get the same result. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Thanks! Antonio

    My application gets handed an NSString containing an unsigned int. NSString doesn't have an [myString unsignedIntegerValue]; method. I'd like to be able to take the value out of the string without mangling it, and then place it inside an NSNumber. I'm trying to do it like so: NSString *myUnsignedIntString = [self someMethodReturningAString]; NSInteger myInteger = [myUnsignedIntString integerValue]; NSNumber *myNSNumber = [NSNumber numberWithInteger:myInteger]; // ...put |myNumber| in an NSDictionary, time passes, pull it out later on... unsigned int myUnsignedInt = [myNSNumber unsignedIntValue]; Will the above potentially "cut off" the end of a large unsigned int since I had to convert it to NSInteger first? Or does it look OK to use? If it'll cut off the end of it, how about the following (a bit of a kludge I think)?     I have an situation where I get an NSDecimal, and I need an NSInteger. I do know it is a very small value (this is absolutely sure). It won't be bigger than 100. So It would be perfectly fine to cast it to NSInteger, no overflow would happen. How could this be done? There's just an -doubleValue method in NSDecimal.

  • UITableViewCell selected subview ghosts

    Hi all, I'm learning about the iPhone SDK and have an interesting exception with UITableViewCell subview management when a finger is pressed on some rows. The table is used to assign sounds to hand gestures -- swiping the phone in one of 3 directions triggers the sound to play. Selecting a row displays an action sheet with 4 options for sound assignment: left, down, right, and cancel. Sounds can be mapped to one, two, or three directions so any cell can have one of seven states: left, down, right, left and down, left and right, down and right, or left down and right. If a row is mapped to any of these seven states, a corresponding arrow or arrows are displayed within the bounds of the row as a subview. Arrows come and go as they should in a given screen and when scrolling around. However, after scrolling to a new batch of rows, only when I press my finger down on some (but not all) rows, does an arrow magically appear in the selected state background. When I lift my finger off the row, and the action sheet appears, the arrow disappears. After pressing any of the four buttons, I can't replicate this anymore. But it's really disorienting and confusing to see this arrow flash on screen because the selected row isn't assigned to anything. What haven't I thought to look into here?   • How to have two UIPickerViews together in one ViewController?

    I'm trying to put 2 UIPickerViews together in one ViewController. Each UIPickerView has different data arrays. I'm using interface builder to link the pickers up. I know I'll have to use separate delegates and dataSources but I can't seem to hook everything up with interface builder correctly. In Objective-C there some "special" types that are just maps to C primitives.   • UIPickerView and empty core data array

    I have a viewcontroller showing items from a core data entity. I also have a tableview listing records from the same entity. The table is editable, and the user could remove all the records. When this happens, the view controller holding the pickerview bombs because it's looking for records in an empty array. How to prevent this?   • Two PickerViews in save View issue?

    I'm trying to have 2 pickerviews in the same view. It works except for two things. If one pickerview has more rows than the other the app crashes when picking an item from the pickerview with more items. Also I created an NSLog for the pickerviews and the console shows that I'm picking two items at once when in fact i'm only dealing with one pickerview. I know it sounds a bit confusing but I'm including all the code.
