  • Performing selectors on main thread with NSInvocation

    I want to perform animation on main thread (cause UIKit objects are not thread-safe), but prepare it in some separate thread.   • iphone - using NSInvocation: constant value

    I am dealing with an old iPhone OS 2.x project and I want to keep compatibility, while designing for 3.x. I am using NSInvocation, is a code like this NSInvocation* invoc = [NSInvocation invocationWithMethodSignature: [cell methodSignatureForSelector: @selector(initWithStyle:reuseIdentifier:)]]; [invoc setTarget:cell]; [invoc setSelector:@selector(initWithStyle:reuseIdentifier:)]; int arg2 = UITableViewCellStyleDefault; //???? [invoc setArgument:&arg2 atIndex:2]; [invoc setArgument:&identificadorNormal atIndex:3]; [invoc invoke]; to call 3.0 APIs on 2.0. I am having a problem on the line I marked with question marks. The problem there is that I am trying to assing to arg2, a constant that has not been defined in OS 2.0. As everything with NSInvocation is to do stuff indirectly to avoid compiler errors, how do I set this constant to a variable in an indirect way? Some sort of performSelector "assign value to variable"... is that possible? thanks for any help.

  • What's better practice: objc_msgSendv or NSInvocation?

    So I'm working on something in obj-c (I'd rather not say what) where I need to be able to call arbitrary methods on arbitrary objects with arbitrary variables. The first two are easy enough to do, but I am unsure how to do the variable arguments. To be clear, this is not about a function/method receiving variable arguments, but about sending them. I have found two ways to do this: objc_msgSendv (and its variants) in the objective-c runtime, and NSInvocation. NSInvocation seems easier and more like it's the 'best practice', but objc_msgSendv sounds like it should be faster, and I need to do this many, many times over, with completely different messages each time. Which one should I choose? Is objc_msgSendv taboo for a good reason? (the docs say not to call the objc_msgsend functions.) P.S. I know the types of all the arguments, and not all of them are id-s Also, (not part of the main question,) there doesn't appear to be a way to message super from objc_msgSendv, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that in NSInvocation either, so any help on that would be great too.

  • NSInvocation: object does not implement methodSignatureForSelector

    I have this weird crash that only happens when running the app on the device (doesn't happen in the Simulator). It seems like the problem surfaces out of nowhere, as I haven't changed anything on that particular class. I had the very same issue a few days ago, and I ended up fixing it by duplicating the class, renaming it, and changing the referenced class — I haven't changed a single bit of code. So I'm trying to understand why it's doing this. I've read somewhere that usually you get this console error when the object isn't a subclass of NSObject (but it is!). Here's the exact console error message: *** NSInvocation: warning: object 0x679e0 of class 'FFProximityPickerView' does not implement methodSignatureForSelector: -- trouble ahead *** NSInvocation: warning: object 0x679e0 of class 'FFProximityPickerView' does not implement doesNotRecognizeSelector: -- abort And then it crashes. I'd be very thankful for anyone who can help me on this.

  • Fault exception trashes a register causing a crash in [NSInvocation invoke]

    I have an NSOperation which fetches some objects from a core data persistent store and sums up a few totals. Sometimes an object is deleted while the operation in in progress, so a core data fault exception occurs. I try/catch the exception while summing to ignore it because I just want to skip objects that cannot be faulted in. However, when one of these fault exceptions occurs (and I swallow it) there is a crash after the invocation returns in [NSInvocation invoke]. It's a bad memory access when dereferencing the value in r10 which according to GDB on a successful run points to one of these: (gdb) x 0x38388348 0x38388348 <OBJC_IVAR_$_NSInvocation._retdata>: 0x00000008 If a fault exception occured a value of 0x02 is in the register which causes the crash. A quick google search tells me that r10 should be saved by the callee, meaning it is not being restored by whatever code is changing it when this exception occurs. Can anybody explain this? I'm not an expert when it comes to these kinds of low-level details

  • How to troubleshoot deallocation of object in uitableview?

    I have a table view with tall cells. About 300 in height. The cells are custom and have an associated nib. In cellForRowAtIndexPath, I access an object in an array using indexPath.row. The object has properties, which I assign to labels on the custom cell. This works fine for the first two cells. Once I scroll enough for the third cell to get created, the app crashes.   • iPhone: Using dispatch_after to mimick NSTimer

    Don't know a whole lot about blocks. How would you go about mimicking a repeating NSTimer with dispatch_after? My problem is that I want to "pause" a timer when the app moves to the background, but subclassing NSTimer does not seem to work. I tried something which seems to work. I cannot judge its performance implications or whether it could be greatly optimized.   • Does iPhone libffi require jailbreak?

    Hi, I'd like to write an app-store-approvable app for the iPhone OS which uses libffi. Is this allowed? I am capable of rewriting all of the parts that use it with things like NSInvocation without too much trouble, but would prefer libffi. So my question is: would apps that use libffi be accepted to the app store?

    I'm experiencing crashes of an app that uses UIWebView. Usually it's when page is not fully loaded and UIWebView is sent stopLoading selector. Or when UIWebView fully loaded page. The provisions look in order, and the app builds to my iphone 3gs just fine. The app used to build just fine to my ipod touch, so I'm flustered what could have changed and wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what might be causing this issue. The build logs are below. I have two choices.   • Javascript style objects in Objective-C

    Background: I use a ton of NSDictionary objects in my iPhone and iPad code. I'm sick of the verbose way of getting/setting keys to these state dictionaries. So a little bit of an experiment: I just created a class I call Remap. Remap will take any arbitrary set[VariableName]:(NSObject *) obj selector and forward that message to a function that will insert obj into an internal NSMutableDictionary under the key [vairableName]. Remap will also take any (zero argument) arbitrary [variableName] selector and return the NSObject mapped in the NSMutableDictionary under the key [variableName]. e.g. Remap * remap = [[Remap alloc] init]; NSNumber * testNumber = [NSNumber numberWithInt:46]; [remap setTestNumber:testNumber]; testNumber = [remap testNumber]; [remap setTestString:@"test string"]; NSString * testString = [remap testString]; NSMutableDictionary * testDict = [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObject:testNumber forKey:@"testNumber"]; [remap setTestDict:testDict]; testDict = [remap testDict]; where none of the properties testNumber, testString, or testDict are actually defined in Remap. The crazy thing? It works... My only question is how can I disable the "may not respond to " warnings for JUST accesses to Remap? P.S. : I'll probably end up scrapping this and going with macros since message forwarding is quite inefficient... but aside from that does anyone see other problems with Remap?   • Undefined symbols after installing new xcode 3.2.3 build

    I want to move to the new XCode 3.2.3 GM Seed build for development, but when I bring up my project I get 'base sdk missing' because my project is set to use iPhone SDK 3.0. If I change 'base SDK' to iPhone 3.2 or 4.0 and then compile I get a lot of errors that I don't understand. I dumped a few of them below. Can anyone tell me what I am missing? Also, can someone confirm that if I choose 'base sdk' of iPhone 3.2 or 4.0 that I can still choose 'target device' of iPhone 3.0 and not force my customers to install the new SDK. I really don't want to be the app that forces my customers to upgrade their OS. Thanks!
