  • Help w/ Sluggish "rake cucumber"

    I've been trying to debug some super slow performance in running my cucumber features. I've run various calls through ruby-prof and think I see the bottlenecks (not too familiar with using ruby-prof) but do not know the cause or more important the solution. I have a list of users and a list of groups, but I'd like to be able to have nesting of the groups: user "Eric" would be in "Users", "Web", and "Administrators". The problem is that I cannot drag a user to an empty <ul> in the list.

  • Sanitizing input for display in view when using simple_format

    Hi, I'm trying to figure out the right way to display comments such that newlines and links are displayed. I know that usually, you should display user-inputs only when escaping html with h(). That of course won't display newlines or links, so I found the simple_format and auto_link methods. What I am now doing is: simple_format(santize(auto_link(comment.text))) Is this the right way to do this, and is it still safe from XSS attacks? Thanks! Eric

    I was looking to write/get a visual studio add in. I want to be able to write descriptive log calls at the top and bottom of a function. like this log.debug("TheClass.TheMethod(string TheStringParam ="+TheStringParam+") - in"); log.debug("TheClass.TheMethod(string TheStringParam ="+TheStringParam+") - out"); Is there an adin that does this?   • How do I change an existing XCode target from dynamic to static?

    I'm working with an existing project that produces a dynamic library (Cocoa API). I'd rather generate a static library, but if I change the [Linking|Mach-O Type] field from "Dynamic Library" to "Static Library", both the Clean Project and Build Project complain that the target has an invalid MACH_O_TYPE value of 'staticlib'. Is there a straightforward way to get the build to produce a static .a file? Thanks, Eric

    One of my web services returns the list of ids of the the projects a person is owner of. That is, when I GET http://example.com/wsListProjects?user=eric I get back xml with the list of projects. However, when I specify user=xxx, who doesn't exist, I currently return a 404 response? Is this the correct response to return? Thanks.

    Hi guys, I'm trying to instanciate a constant NSString by concatanating other NSString instances. Here is what I'm doing in my implementation file : static NSString *const MY_CONST = @"TEST"; static NSString *const MY_CONCATENATE_CONST = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"STRING %@", MY_CONST]; It leads to the following compilation error : Initializer element is not constant I suppose this is because stringWithFormat doesn't return a constant NSString, but since there is no other way to concatenate strings in Obj-C, what am I supposed to do ?     We have some legacy string dates that I need to convert to actual dates that can be used to perform some date logic. Converting to a date object isn't a problem if I knew what the format were! That is, some people wrote 'dd month yy', othes 'mon d, yyyy', etc. So, I was wondering if anybody knew of a py module that attempts to guess date formats and rewrites them in a uniform way?   • PHP mail() function not delivering mail

    Hi there, I have a slight problem. I am using a working script (works on my testing account - shared server) to send a mail through PHP using the mail() function. I just got a dedicated server, and I haven't been able to get the function to work. I've spent the last 10 or so hours reading various documentations on BIND (for the SPF record), dovecot, sendmail and postfix trying various things to get this to work. There is clearly something that I am missing. So we know the PHP code works fine. All the headers are fine everything. We know this as it's a direct copy from my testing account. So the problem must arise somewhere in the server config. The path to sendmail is correct, and sendmail is (apparently) working fine. I've set up the script to now deliver "Sent" or "Error" based on the boolean result from the PHP mail() function. That is: if(mail($blah,$blah,$blah,$blah,$blah)) { echo "Sent"; } else { echo "Error";} And the result ALWAYS comes up as "Sent" - however, the email never arrives. Can someone suggest things to check, as I'm completely new to this (24 hours or so!). Thanks in advance. Ryan

  • Windows 7 pro remote desktop true multi monitor support patch or hack

    After hours of research the closest i came to any patch that could fix this was a concurrent sessions patch which is not what i want. I have two machines both windows 7 professional. Its not an option to upgrade either to ultimate as the computer being remoted is in another state at our corp office. I need Dual monitor support and would have used the multimon i:1 edit thing however the other tower is not Win 7 ultimate. I have read over and over how it is not supported except with ultimate and enterprise and 2008 server. What have they put into windows 7 ultimate that is not in Win 7 pro and how can i get it or patch Win 7 pro to give it the same functionality. I would have paid for a software patch had i been able to find it anywhere. Summary: I am looking for the ability to remote to a Win 7 pro computer with another Win 7 computer while being able to use Dual monitors. Is there anyone that has the skill or balls to help with this? Most Respectfully Ryan

  • How can I get an AdWords ad to show up for a specific term ASAP?

    I have a very specific situation... I have a client who has a site, backed by a celebrity, selling a comment product.... so imagine my site is all about "Martha Stewart used cars" (that's not it-- but you get the idea). My client wants to see their site show up ASAP in Google search results. While I'm waiting for organic search to kick in and recognize my site, index it properly, etc, I want to buy some adwords for keywords like "Martha Stewart used cars" and "Martha Stewart used car" and so forth and have the ads show up on the 1st page of search results. I've done this. The problem is that many, many other advertisers have set up ads on the keyword "used cars" so my Martha-specific ads never are shown. Even when I bid specifically on the keyword phrase "Martha Stewart used cars" and I enter that directly into Google, it doesn't show my ad. SO MY QUESTION.... how/what can I do to get my ads to show... or really, can I do anything else to get my client's site to show on the result page? (I'm not interested in anything black-hat or illegal; I'm just trying to throw some resources at this situation so when those folks looking SPECIFICALLY for "Martha Stewart used cars" will get to the site quickly.) thanks-- Eric

  • configure a Macbook Pro to use external monitor at boot (Debian Linux)

    In the spirit of reuse, I've installed Debian (version 6.0.5 "squeeze") on my wife’s old Macbook Pro (circa 2009 or so), to repurpose it for various tasks. The catch is the display is flaky. It will last a random amount of time, between 2 minutes and 2 hours, before freezing and graying out. This is a known issue with that generation of MBP. Fortunately it’s no problem for me, as I plan to use it with an external monitor anyway. Which brings us to the problem: How do I configure this thing to output to the external display by default, and hopefully disable the built-in LCD? The ideal solution would be to modify a setting in the EFI (BIOS), but I’m not holding out much hope for that. Next best thing would be a kernel option I can pass to the NVIDIA driver. What won’t work is a solution that doesn’t give me a display until X starts. I need to have console access, especially given that the built-in LCD is dying, and any day now might give out completely. So far I haven’t been able to find anything online. lspci says I’ve got an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M Help is much appreciated! Eric PS if this question is better suited to the Unix & Linux area, pls advise and I will move it.

  • _mask and Rails

    So I am trying to get the cancan gem to work with my rails 3 app and I've hit a problem. I tried to copy the code that Ryan Bates (the creator of the gem) used in his screen cast, but I get an error saying that roles_mask is not a method. I figure that the _mask method was removed from Ruby/Rails at some point, and I'm now wondering what is the replacement.     Hi, I am using dotnetCHARTING: the dll is installed in the GAC and referenced in my web.config (all versions appear to match). The project has a reference to the dll. web.config: <add assembly="dotnetCHARTING, Version=5.3.3540.17054, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=af2cd47db69d93bd"/> The site code compiles ok, but all aspx pages using the charting library complain that the Chart tag does not exist (warning that it might be a compile error). The aspx pages do not render the charts. Each page has a reference to the assembly: <%@ Register Assembly="dotnetCHARTING" Namespace="dotnetCHARTING" TagPrefix="dotnetCHARTING" %> Does anybody know what could be causing this?     Hi, I am trying to follow 'n tier app design' tutorials and they tell me to set the DataSet Project property from the Data Set Designer in VS, to split table adaptors and entities into seprate projects. I can't see that property! (I'm looking in the same place shown on the videos... all other properties match) Does anybody know why? What is the recommended way identify users of the app? I want to avoid using password, but windows identities. Anyone attempting to access the application is inside a trusted network.   • How to Add Serialized LINQ to SQL Entities to a Word 2007 Document

    I built a template-based document generator using the Open XML SDK (1.0), the Word 2007 Content Control Toolkit and LINQ to SQL (using the CodeSmith PLINQO templates). To do this, I serialized the LINQ to SQL entities to XML by retrieving the entity using DataLoadOptions specified in the source code. This works great, except that to initially populate the XML in my template, I currently have to copy and paste the XML from the Immediate window in VS2008 into the Content Control Toolkit, and it still has all the data from the current entity. I'm looking for two solutions: 1) Is this a good way to build a document generator with Word 2007? 1) How can I generate just the XML I need without the data? I've thought of creating an XSD and then creating an empty XML document, but wasn't sure how to do that programatically so that a business user can get the XML for the template. (That's not a requirement, just a nice-to-have.) Thanks for your feedback, Ryan
