  • Fedora 12 How to Force a Display to Load on Boot even when no Monitor is Attached

    When booting Fedora 12 with no monitor connected, if I connect a monitor later it gives a no signal error. I think it is set to auto-detect if a monitor is connected or not and load a display based of that. Since it initially detects no monitor no display is loaded. What I would like to do is have it act as if a monitor was always connected and provide the display signal always. I don't know if this is the issue or not but if you know how I might be able to fix this issue so that I can connect a monitor whenever I feel like it without having to restart that would be best. Thanks for the help! :D

  • Can't login into Fedora 14 (XFCE) desktop. For the second time.

    Hello. I'm experiencing a problem with my Fedora 14 XFCE spin, which doesn't seem to let me pass the login screen: I enter my password for my user record, authentication passes (no 'Authentication Failure' message, which was when I tried to login as 'root' without root login enabled), and the screen becomes black (command line) for a couple of seconds and (voila!) my login screen emerges again. I did nothing to cause that, it just suddenly logged me out when I was editing window manager settings via XFCE's built-in GUI utility (choosing window decorations style, from the listbox on the left) For the first time, I had to boot from live CD and do a fresh install, but I don't really want to do that again :) Is there some way to repair this (maybe login via command line and reset window manager settings, I don't know really)?   • Accessing IPv6 router interface from a minimal Fedora installation?

    I've recently installed Fedora 16 and am trying to set up a simple apache server. The only problem I've run into so far is that I'm unable to access my router's web interface from any box on my network. It assigns addresses via dhcp, and the router always responds to a ping. The server is also picking up an IP from the router on the proper subnet. Now, all I really need to do is forward a port, however I am receiving "Unable to connect" through the web interfaces and "connection refused" via telnet. What are my options, and how might I go about troubleshooting this? Will I need the server's ip to be static in order to change these settings? The router is a "Netopia" model, if that helps.

    I have big problem with creating service in new way - by systemctl (systemd.service) in Fedora 16. I wonna to create very simple service for minidlna server. I have created new file called minidlna.service in /lib/systemd/system/ and here is how it's looks like: [Unit] Description=Mini DLNA [Service] Type=oneshot ExecStart=/usr/sbin/minidlna [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target Unfortunately systemctl status minidlna.service prints: Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/minidlna.service; enabled) Active: inactive (dead) since Sat, 03 Dec 2011 20:49:23 +0100; 9s ago Main PID: 1580 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) CGroup: name=systemd:/system/minidlna.service Any ideas how to fix it?   • My Logitech G35 headphones aren't very loud on Linux (fedora 14) why?

    I have recently purchased a set of G35 headphones. They seem to be very loud when I use them on Windows, but when I try and use them on Fedora 14, they are very quiet and I can't seem to make them louder. I have obviously checked the sound settings in Gnome, and they are all up full. I have got ALSA-mixer installed but seems to make no difference. There doesn't seem to be any specific drivers for these headphones for Linux. Anyone know how to make them go a bit louder?

    Hi, I need gcc 4.3 running alongside the shipped 4.4 on an FC13 machine. I can't do the VM solution discussed at http://serverfault.com/questions/88445/how-to-install-old-versions-of-gcc-on-fedora-12 since I need hardware access (CUDA computations on the graphics card). There's no compat-gcc-43 package (only compat-gcc-34). So I've built gcc by hand and am now trying to decide how to "install" it. Could anyone confirm that this was my only option, and/or suggest a best practice for how to manage the side-by-side gcc versions?

  • How do you add more space to a Fedora (LVM) partition?

    In a nutshell, i have a VM that ran out of space. I increased the size of the VM's harddrive to be 4 times bigger but the OS partition is still only using 1x the space. I need to change the LVM partition to take up the extra 4x space but I don't know how to extend the LVM partition. (NOTE: To make the screenshots given below I had to boot from a live-cd for gnome-partition-manager (aka gparted). Very unfortunately gparted is only able to "detect LVM" and can't do any LVM operations.) Here is what "gparted" shows. Please notice that the "resize" option is not available: The Problem: I can't find good directions<1 on how to grow the LVM partition via GUI or command-line! How do you grow a LVM partition that was created by the default Fedora install? If you are giving command line directions. Please explain what each line of commands does.
