  I'm n00ber than any n00b you ever seen, so bear with me... I just downloaded wubi and installed ubuntu 12.10 along with Windows 7 on the same HDD. Linux works fine, but doesnt show files from drive C (on which it is installed). I really need C as it contains all my files. I did df -h in the terminal. It does show the drive. /dev/sda2 577G 220G 358G 38% /host Now I tried to mount the drive sudo mount /dev/sda2 and got the response mount: /dev/sda2 already mounted or /host busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda2 is already mounted on /host I dont know what that means. The drive doesnt show up in HOME FOLDER. What am i supposed to do now?

(I asked a guy there what to do after it said there was already a computer named "Dell(omitted)" logged on.) I've never been at a wifi spot that you had to log into before. I didn't even notice what the computer's name was before. My question is what are the most common default computer names. I'm curious. How often does this sort of problem happen? (I read via Google that Redhat linux default to "localhost" and Toshiba laptops default to "Toshiba.") Somebody probably keeps statistics. (I was referred here from serverfault.com) Thanks

  First of all, I'm a total Linux noob. I was running the latest version of Ubuntu but eventually I wasn't able to boot no more, the Ubuntu logo appeared and then it was only a blinking white bar indefinitely, without charging. Now, my problem is the following. I want to do a fresh install and I am trying to recover my latest files from the HDD using the Ubuntu live CD. I click on the HDD and obtain the following I honestly don't really know whats going on. Looking at disks I have this... Can anyone help me out? Cheers.

• Fix: Cant Change or Remove Visual Studio 2008 from DVD

  If you installed Visual Studio 2008 on a 64-bit operating system, you may have trouble when you try ad add or remove functionality by inserting the disk (or remounting the ISO image).  I believe this is because of the path used to install the 32-bit Visual Studio program.  When you run the setup.exe off of the disk, you get this: Clicking on Change or Remove Visual Studio 2008 brings up this dialog: But not long after it appears, it disappears to be replaced with: Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Setup A problem has been encountered while loading the setup components.  Canceling setup. FIX: Use Add or Remove Programs Launch the Add or Remove Programs dialog in Windows, and find Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Suite ENU (or whichever SKU you installed).  Click Uninstall/Change.  From here you should be able to change your installed components of Visual Studio successfully: Thanks to Brendan for the tip! • Cant install ubuntu 12.10?

  I believe i have tried every trick in the book but Ubuntu just wont install. Windows has no issue with it. I burned a DVD of Ubuntu 12.10 and it has passed all checks, but i keep getting different errors while installing. Mainly while "Creating the Partition in dev" and some times during "Copying files". The errors are: Errno 30, Errno 33, Installer crashed, failed to create partition etc... I have Intel core 2 duo 2.66Ghz, 4gb ram and ASrock motherboard. I really want to install Ubuntu 12.10 and 12.10 only! Also Should i prefer 32bit or 64bit? I have burned a 32bit version. Thank you

Is the "domain name" updated by using the hostname command? If so, which config file(s) are updated when using the hostname command? If not, how do I change my servers' domain name? My current /etc/hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost 67.228.178.164 mrspock.example-old.com mrspock My current /etc/hostname: mrspock $ hostname -f mrspock.example-old.com I need to update hostname -f to be mrspock.example-new.com.

• MacBook 5,1 - cant change brightness on 12.04

  I'm a total newbie to Ubuntu and recently decided to give it a go on my early 2009 Alu MacBook. For about a week now I've been trying to get the brightness controls to work. I've tried the following: Brightness controls doesn't work on a MacBook Pro 5.5 (ubuntu 12.04 LTS) https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro5-5/Precise#LCD None of it seems to work. Next option was to try the Nvidia-bl-dkms drivers, but aftert installing the Mactel PPA I just get this: Reading package lists... DoneBuilding dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package nvidia-bl-dkms Any help would be much appreciated as my eyes are going to fall out soon with the brightness maxed out.

• Making HTML5 videos stored on AWS S3 **difficult** to download (because I cant make it impossible)

  I am building a website that hosts video's stored on AWS's S3 service. The videos are played thru a HTML5 player we have built. Ive just been asked to make sure "nobody can steal our video's". Now I know that if you really don't want something stolen, don't put it up on the internet. However I just need to secure these videos as good as possible, the videos need to at the very least resist someone going thru the source code and trying to download them manually. One option available to me is to completely rebuild the video player in flash. This is not ideal, for several reasons, notably because I would also then have to build an App for mobile devices to be able to view this site. So I am looking for other options. I have heard about using a token to make the file available only during certain times. I have heard of using a separate file to serve the videos that sits between the HTML5 page and the video file. I am also having a look at IAM, the Secure AWS Access Control, in the hopes AWS can solve this problem for me. Can anyone here recommend any of these options? Or perhaps suggest other options available to me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Cant burn the iso file on disc and usb will not startup

  I am having very big problems trying to get this going for my old laptop. I tried burning the iso image with 5 different iso burning programs and none of the disks worked none started up. Then I tried to do the USB way used the program that puts it on the usb for you it starts up on my laptop fine but will not start up on my compaq presario 2178cl. If any1 can help me with this problem I would be much appreciative ty for your time.

  I had ubuntu installed for a few weeks now untill it had a kernel update and i canceled the wifi driver because it didnt worked, since then i wasent able to boot into ubuntu. I tryed to boot from livecd but it didnt worked either. I was able to succssecfuly install windows 7 64 bit now and also format my hard drive but i dont like windows and when i tryed to install ubunru again to still didnt worked. Please help me!   I created a LiveUSB of Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS using Pendrive Linux. -Created a separate 30GB partition using Windows 8 Disk Management -Disabled Secure Boot (Didn't find an option to disable EFI boot) -Disabled Fast Startup The laptop starts the GRUB menu shows up but it doesn't go beyond that no matter what option i choose. After choosing any option the screen goes blank but the power is still on i can see the power light. But when i try to browse a php page its not loading. What will be the problem?? Is it legal/good practice to sell already expired domains as-is, or would most domain selling companies also extend the expiration date by an extra year. It wouldn't be such a big deal, however domains with this particular TLD cost $89/year to renew.

• How do you name/brand software?

  I am working on an application that is brand new. We have been using an internal name up to this point, but it's not very imaginative and is definitely not good from a branding standpoint. I have been tasked to come up with a name for the software. I am really struggling with this as every name I have thought about really doesn't seem to do the software justice. I have tried acronyms, mythology names, scientific names, etc. I may be being a bit picky, but I feel like the name should just hit me when its right. Here are my requirements: The name has to be easy to say (and hopefully catchy). The name has to relate back to what the software does. The name has to be able to be branded. (For example, vivid imagery, tagline, etc.) So, although I can't give the specifics of the software, I was hoping the brains here could provide some insight as to how I should go about naming/branding a piece of software?

When parking the domain the isp automatically added this which works although displays anotherdomain name.
