  • Accounts in Work Items after migration to TFS 2010 and to new domain

    Lately I’ve been doing some tests on migrating our TFS 2008 installation to TFS 2010, coupled with a machine and domain change. One particular topic that was tricky is user accounts. We installed first a new machine with TFS 2010 and then migrated the projects in the old server. The work items were migrated with the projects. Great, but if I try to edit one of the old work items I cannot save it anymore because some fields contain old user names (ex. OLDDOMAIN\user) which are not known in the new domain (it should be NEWDOMAIN\user). The errors look like this: When I correct the ‘Assigned To’ field value, I get another error regarding another field: Before TFS 2010, we had TFSUsers power tool. It allow you to map an old user name to a new user name. This is not available anymore because WI fields with user accounts are now synchronized with AD display names changes (explained here). The correct way to go about this in TFS 2010 is to use TFSConfig Identities before adding the new domain accounts into the TFS groups (documented here). So, too late for us. I’ve found a (tedious) workaround to change those old account in work items in order to allow people to keep working with them. 1. Install TFS 2010 power tools 2. Export WIT from your project (VS | Tools | Process Editor | Work Item Types). Save the definition, for example: Original_MyProject_Task.xml 3. Copy the xml (NoReadOnly_MyProject_Task.xml) and edit it. From the field definition of ‘Activated By’, ‘Closed By’ and ‘Resolved By’, remove the following:        <WHENNOTCHANGED field="System.State">           <READONLY />         </WHENNOTCHANGED> 4. Import WIT in VS. Choose the new file (NoReadOnly_MyProject_Task.xml) and import it in MyProject 5. Open all tasks in Excel (flat list). Display the following columns: Asssigned To Activated By Closed By Resolved By Change the user accounts to the new ones (I usually sort each column alphabetically to make it easier). 6. Publish. If you get a conflict on a field, tough luck. You will have to manually choose “Local version” for each work item. I told you it was a tedious process. 7. Import original WIT (Original_MyProject_Task.xml) in MyProject. We only changed the WI definition so that we could change some fields. The original definition should be put back. And what about these other fields? Created By Authorized As These fields are not editable by definition (VS | Tools | Process Editor | Work Item Fields Explorer), even if they are not marked as read-only in the WIT. You can leave the old values. It doesn’t seem to matter to TFS. The other four fields are editable by definition, so only the WIT readonly rule prevents us from changing them.   • Updating Pages after migration of website

    My web site was coded in Coldfusion and over the years has obtained a good ranking. I recently migrated the front-end to a Wordpress site and wanted to know what is ideal way of updating Google and the various search engines of of the updates. For example, the home page of index.cfm is no longer valid since it's index.php. I've submitted an updated sitemap.xml file to Google. I'm sure my site will slip some while the search engines re-index my site but I'd like to try and minimize this as much as possible with the holidays coming up (my site is a service oriented site that caters to people who travel during the holidays). Right now, the old .cfm pages are still online but are re-routed to the appropriate Wordpress page (for example, about.cfm is now routed to /about/ using a cflocation tag.). Not sure if I should pull down the .cfm pages all together or leave them in place until the new pages are picked up by the search engines. Any advice would be helpful.

    I developed a client/server application with PowerBuilder in the past for medical clinics and done maintenance for it until now. Now, some clients are asking me to develop a release for Mac/Linux and need some advice about what programming language/technology is best suited for it and the learning curve. It’s not a very very big program but I’m the only developer and have done it in my spare time. PowerBuilder is very productive for this kind of projects (database centric), but it’s not multiplatform and it’s hard to sell PowerBuilder application now days (web, .NET, java sells a lot better with his marketing). My programming skills: - I studied C and C++ in the past (university) but never used it on real projects - Have some Java experience but not in desktop applications - Some experience with Ruby on Rails for web projects - Good skills with PowerBuilder and C# (.NET) (there are my main developing languages) My first dilemma is if I change the desktop application to a web interface, but I think the user will lose some user-experience, and some doctors don’t have a clinic (they are alone at home with my software). I think installing a web application (with webserver) for one user will be overwhelming. If I continue developing desktop application, what is at the moment a good framework/toolset to learn having my skills? Somebody has had similar experiences? A lot of thanks

  • Web migration of a VB6 system with VWG

    Brinks Bolivia eSAC System (Customer Service) allows to register all different kinds of contacts for a customer; addition to maintaining an updated status of each service or customer request, to have accurate information and perform the appropriate procedures for all applications. The system was originally developed in VB6 and since web access was essential it was offered via Citrix. Since the application's performance was a critical issue as well as the need to offer the system without specific installations the company looked for a solution that would solve those drawbacks of using Citrix. Searching for a solution that would allow it to offer the eSAC system over the web without the need for specific client installations and provide sufficient performance levels even when there is limited bandwidth lead Brinks to a decision to migrate their VB6 Customer Service system to to Visual WebGui. "Developing on Visual WebGui we were able to migrate the system to web environment and even add new features in less time which allows us to offer it over a standard web browser with better performance and no installations as was required with Citrix," concluded Alexander Cuellar.   • Code base migration - old versioning system to modern

    Our current code base is contained in a versioning system that is old and outdated (Visual Sourcesafe 5.0, mid 1990's), and contains a mix of packages that are no longer used, ones that are being used but no longer updated, and newer code. It is also a mix of 4 languages, and includes libraries for some of our systems (Such as Dialogic, Sun Tzu {clipper}) implementations. This breaks down into the following categories: Legacy code - No longer used (Systems that have been retired or replaced, etc) Legacy code - In current use (No intentions for upgrades or minor bug fixes, only major fixes if needed) Current code - In current use, and will be used for future versions/development Support libraries - For both legacy and current code (Some of the legacy libraries are no longer available as well) We would like to migrate this to a newer versioning system as we will be adding more developers, and expanding the reach to include remote programmers. When migrating, how do you structure it? Do you just perform a dump of all the data and then import it into the new system, or do you segregate according to type before you bring it into the new system? Do you set up a separate area for libraries, or keep them with the relevant packages? Do you separate by language, system, both? A general outline and methodology is fine, it doesn't need to be broken down to individual program level.

    I am planning to do two things on several large (several gigs) and old (several years) repositories: Move from bzr to git without losing the commit history. Restructure all the repositories either using bzr or git. This will involve moving files/directories from one repository to another with its change history. Doing both at once would be foolish (I think!) but I am not sure which one should be done first. Any suggestions? Anything I should watch out for when migrating/restructuring?

    When you are creating BI template through application the RTF template information will stored in XDO_LOBS table.Column LOB_CODE will store the template short code,ie the link between the template and lob. When you migrate the template through java oracle.apps.xdo.oa.util.XDOLoader make sure the rtf file name and template short code are same.Otherwise the rtf will not get attached. Eg:  Source Instance Template Short Code : XXCUST_TEMPLATE RTF Name: XXCUST_TEMPLATE_1.rtf When you migrate the above details through  XDOLoader the rtf will not get attached to template in destination instance.So make sure RTF Name should be XXCUST_TEMPLATE.

  • Migration a database from 32bit to 64bit

    Database migrations from an 32bit environment to an 64bit environment keeping the same platform architecture (e.g. moving an Oracle 10.2.0.5 database from MS Windows XP 32bit to MS Windows Server 2003 64bit) does not happen that often anymore. But still we see them getting done. And there are a few things to note when doing such a move. First of all the important question is:Will you upgrade your database as part of this move - Yes or No? If you say "Yes" then you are almost done with that topic as we will take care of that bitnes move during the upgrade. The only thing you have to take care is OLAP in case you are using OLAP Option with Analytic Workspaces (AW) by yourself. Those store data in Binary LOBs - and in order to move AWs from 32bit to 64bit you have to export your AWs prior to the move - and import them later on. People who don't use OLAP don't have to take care on this. But if you say "No" (meaning: no upgrade actions involved - you keep your database version) then you have to make sure to invalidate all packages and stored code in the database before you shutdown your database in the 32bit environment and prior to moving it over. And the same rule as above for OLAP applies once you use the OLAP Option. In the source environment: startup upgrade;    -- [or startup migrate; -- for Oracle 9i] @?/rdbms/admin/utlirp.sqlshutdown immediate In the destination environment: startup upgrade @?/olap/admin/xumuts.plb --Only if OLAP Option is installed@?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql The script utlirp.sql will invalidate all packages and stored code, utlrp.sql will recompile - and xumuts.plb will rebuild the OLAP Analytic Workspaces in case you have the OLAP Option installed.

  • Website migration is not working for all computers

    We got 2 servers on same network, Server-A and Server-B. On Server-A (widows server 2003), we have IIS 5.2 and our website was hosted on it few month ago (about 7-8 months). We bought a new server, Server-B (Windows Server 2008) with IIS 7.5 and copied our old website on this new machine. On our router, we forward the port 80 to Server-B. The Server-A is still on because we need to access some old data by our old website. I would like to access it with it's internal Ip (192.168.1.xxx/mywebsite) On my Windows 7 computer, if I write www.example.com or example.com (without www.), I'm being redirected to Server-B and I can see our new interface. On some Windows Vista computer, example.com (without www.) redirect to Server-B, but if I write www.example.com, I'm still on Server-A. In our website code (on Server-B), we sometimes redirect with a "www." so this is causing some error because we are trying to access a webpage that exist on Server-B but not Server-A and because the www.example I compared 2 computers with Vista Home on them and Internet Options looks the same. I cannot figure why this is happening

    First of all, I'm new to Drupal and the work I have to do is some kind of too hard. My old colleague (webmaster) had a server with a multisite Drupal 6 installation. Sites and their dirs were (e.g.) Sites Site directory b.a.mycompany.com /drupal_install_dir/sites/b.a.mycompany.com c.a.mycompany.com /drupal_install_dir/sites/c.a.mycompany.com d.a.mycompany.com /drupal_install_dir/sites/d.a.mycompany.com Unluckily my colleague moved and server hdd aren't in my hands: all I have is a backup of /drupal_install_dir and three sql dumps (one for each site). I had to restore three sites, but changing them as z.mycompany.com/b z.mycompany.com/c z.mycompany.com/d Beeing a sysadmin, I Extracted tar.gz backup file under wwwroot (let's call full path to extracted directory /new_install_dir) Restored three databases Created mysql users and give them correct GRANTS on databases Then (trying to restore at least first site) I changed /new_install_dir/sites/settings.php putting correct database connection data and new basepath. But there is no way I can see my new site, simply it doesn't work. Watching /var/log/apache2/error.log I saw Drupal searching for main drupal database; so I created that db too setting user and grants, but dump file is empty. Well, now I can run something like install.php or update.php, but my site is not shown. Is there something I can do? Do I have to walk another way? Consider I searched the web, but I'm not able to find a guide that can help me for my problem. Ah, I forgot: before producing the backup, my colleague set site in maintenance mode. When I try to run z.mycompany.com/?q=user (trying to login) nothing happens. I'm really stuck...

I have the same username and group set, of course, but... So, where is this peruser launchd tool configured, so that I can disable the daemons that are causing this error message?

  • IMAP email migration from Apptix to Office 365

    I am having issues setting up a migration from Apptix to Office 365 of 41 users in my company. I've found a couple guides on the Microsoft website about how to do it (Thank you Google) but I keep coming up with problems. I am trying to set up a mailbox migration through IMAP to get all of my users' emails over to Office 365 before we make the transition over from Apptix. One of the forums suggested using IMAP, since a CSV file can be uploaded to Office 365 and it will check for incoming mail for each user every 24 hours. My problem is that when I do this, I just get errors.   • Domain and TS migration

    The migration steps outlined by Microsoft in the ts migration seem to deal with moving TS to a different server on the same domain and call for adding the licensing service to another system, move the licenses and then put TS on whatever server you want. However with migrating the domain as well I don't have any place to move the TS server to. So my thought was to simply re-activate my licenses on the new server using the same method as a new TS setup. My question is essentially will this work the way I think it will or will the MS activation clearing house deny the new server? Is there a procedure to follow that "deactivates" the licenses on a server so that the clearing house knows there are some free? (FWIW I can look up the license information through the eopen website and have access to the original license doc.)

    I have a number of classes that look like this: class Foo(val:BasicData) extends Bar(val) { val helper = new Helper(val) val derived1 = helper.getDerived1Value() val derived2 = helper.getDerived2Value() } ...except that I don't want to hold onto an instance of "helper" beyond the end of the constructor. In Java, I'd do something like this: public class Foo { final Derived derived1, derived2; public Foo(BasicData val) { Helper helper = new Helper(val); derived1 = helper.getDerived1Value(); derived2 = helper.getDerived2Value(); } } So how do I do something like that in Scala? I'm aware of creating a helper object of the same name of the class with an apply method: I was hoping for something slightly more succinct.
