• Excel 2007: Named ranges problems when linking workbooks

  I've 30+ workbooks each with 5 specific worksheets (formated the same). Each worksheet's data needs to be linked to a master workbook, so that I end up with 5 master workbooks and all the specific data in one long table format $A$2:$I$750. (Are you still with me? ;)) I don't have access to a database, so I'm having to link the sheets to their master workbook directly. I've highlighted the data I need; named the range; and then tried referencing this from my master workbook. I get the #Value error symbol when I try to link (=[WorkbookName]!MyNamedRange) to a cell that doesn't match the top left cell of my range. Example: MyNamedrange is always =$A$2:$I43$ on one specific sheet. On my master workbook it works if it's referenced at A2 but I get #Value if it's referenced A1, or A44. Any ideas? I'm trying to link my data in one continous table so I can run a pivot on it, and other things. Can it be done like this, or should I just copy and paste? I'm trying to keep things 'linked'so I do not need to spend time C&Ping all day. Many thanks Mike.

• Blinking power button

  A friend asked me to look at his Gateway DX4640 desktop. When he presses the power button, power goes to the mobo (NVIDIA nForce 630i MCP73PV, GeForce 7100 chipset) and the CPU fan starts spinning. The power button slowely blinks on and off (blue) and the screen briefly says no signal and then goes black. And nothing else; no post code beeps. My initial two conjectures were: 1. Vista was stuck in sleep/hibernation mode, or 2. A power off had left the mobo in a bad state. The fix for both is to: a) Unplug the AC power cord b) hold the power button for 30 second to fully discharge the mobo It didn't help. I left the system unplugged from AC power for an hour. No change. I am out of ideas. Has anybody seen anything like this before? What does a blinking blue power button mean? How can I get more data points to guide trouble shooting? --Thank you, --Mike

• Ubuntu init.d script not being called on startup

  I've got a script in ubuntu 9.04 in init.d that I've set to run on start on with update-rc.d using update-rc.d init_test defaults 99. • Access 2007: How can I make this EXPRESSION less complex?

  Access is telling me that my new expression is to complex. It used to work when we had 10 service levels, but now we have 19! Great! My expression is checking the COST of our services in the [PriceCharged] field and then assigning the appropriate HOURS [Servicelevel] when I perform a calculation to work out how much REVENUE each colleague has made when working for a client. The [EstimatedTime] field stores the actual hours each colleague has worked. [EstimatedTime]/[ServiceLevel]*[PriceCharged] Great. Below is the breakdown of my COST to HOURS expression. • Deployment Error: Silverlight 4.0 w/WCF RIA Services in ASP.NET MVC 2 App

  I've got an MVC 2 App with an RIA Services link to a Silverlight Application. On my local machine, all is well, but when I deploy to Discount ASP servers, neither the MVC controller nor the WCF RIA services called from silverlight function: A silverlight datagrid gets a load error: System.ServiceModel.DomainServices.Client.DomainOperationException: Load operation failed for query... The remote server returned an error NotFound. In the MVC page where I had a simple table that worked prior to adding an EF model and DomainDataSource, I now get the error: Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information. This is very similar to an issue I had before, but after upgrading from the betas of WCF/Silverlight 4, but the fix I had added there doesn't seem to work any longer. • WCF "DataContext accessed after Dispose"

  I have an application with numerous WCF services that make use of LINQ-To-SQL as the data access model. I am having lots of problems with the "DataContext accessed after Dispose" exception. I understand what this exception is and that it is occurring because I have not "initialised" the data that is trying to be accessed. I've read many articles that suggest that I called ToList() on any arrays before the parent object is returned by the service. My issue is that I am getting this exception and I don't know where it is originating from and therefore I don't know what hasn't been initialised. Can anyone advise how best to identify the root cause? (I have used the MS Service Trace Viewer and this doesn't seem to give me any further information)

  I'd like to roll a 2D numpy in python, except that I'd like pad the ends with zeros rather than roll the data as if its periodic. Specifically, the following code import numpy as np x = np.array([[1, 2, 3],[4, 5, 6]]) np.roll(x,1,axis=1) returns array([[3, 1, 2],[6, 4, 5]]) but what I would prefer is array([[0, 1, 2], [0, 4, 5]]) I could do this with a few awkward touchups, but I'm hoping that there's a way to do it with fast built-in commands. • DomainDataSource DataPager with silverlight 3 DataGrid & .Net RIA Services

  I have a simple datagrid example with silverlight 3, and am populating it with the .NET ria services using a DomainDataSource along with a DataPager declaratively (nothing in the code-behind), and am experiencing this problem: The LoadSize is 30, and the Page size is 15, and when the page is loaded, the 1st and 2nd page appear correctly, but when I go beyond the 2nd page, nothing shows up in the grid. This used to work in the silverlight 3 beta with the Mix 2009 preview of .NET Ria services, and I've got a really simple example and have verified that the Service on the web project gets called to load a new batch, but the grid doesn't show any data. Can anyone shed any light as to why grid displays data only for the initial load of data and not subsequent batches from the pager? • AdMob and UINavigationControllers

  I'm playing around with AdMob and I"m trying to get something going with an auto-rotating view inside a uinavigationcontroller. I have the ad at the top of the screen. Not sure if this is the right approach, but in my LoadView method I have: self.navigationController.view.frame = CGRectMake(0,48,320,432); The navbar appears below the ad. When I rotate the phone to landscape is there a way to get the navbar (which is now across the top) to be 432px wide so it doesn't get cut off under the ad? I tried writing a method that is called when the device orientation changes, but it seems like manipulating the view on the navigationcontroller screws things up for every orientation except portrait. The view keeps getting shorter until it disappears. Thanks, Howie

• Creating a (ClickOnce) setup for VSTO Outlook Add-in

  So I created an Outlook Add-in and used the click-once setup to deploy it. The setup runs fine when the user is administrator, but otherwise: no go. Running the setup with "run as..." and logging in as admin works, but than the add-in is installed under the admin, not the current user. The addin doesn't show up in outlook. Examine the registry keys in HKCU hive e.g. you will find two interesting registry keys that appear under your HKCU hive: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\TestKey registry key containing registry value TestValue You now also have HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\User Settings\TestPropagation registry key with Count value set to 1 But on my machine, the keys are not created... What can I try next?

  Is it possible to set the BorderBrush property in a style, to the value of the BorderBrush property of an instance of another control?   Hi I've embedded several views in a library so that I can re-use across projects using this method which works OK: http://www.wynia.org/wordpress/2008/12/aspnet-mvc-plugins/ But one view usings a Javascript file. I've tried marking this as an embedded resource and adding it AssemblyInfo.cs and then referencing this resource using <%= ClientScript.GetWebResourceUrl(this.GetType(), "FullPath.FileName.js")%> This is literally displaying this output in the view WebResource.axd?d=nUxqfqAUQLabLU54W I think this is because Im trying to refer to an embedded resource from an embedded resource. Help appreciated as Im going round in circles.. Steve

  I am rewriting my website with codeigniter and have something I want to do but not sure it is possible. I have a gallery on my site powered by the Flickr API. Any ideas?

• Cocoa - Enumerate mutable array, removing objects

  Hey there, I have a mutable array that contains mutable dictionaries with strings for the keys latitude, longitude and id. Some of the latitude and longitude values are the same and I want to remove the duplicates from the array so I only have one object per location. I can enumerate my array and using a second enumeration review each object to find objects that have different ids, but the same latitude and longitude, but if I try to remove the object, I'm muting the array during enumeration. Is there any way to remove objects from an array while enumerating so I only enumerate the current set of objects as the array is updated? Hope this question makes sense. Thanks, Howie

• What is all this stuff in the CKEditor folder?

  A while ago I downloaded the latest version (3.1) of the CKEditor text editor. The directory name was ckeditor and I deleted the ckeditor/_source and ckeditor/_samples sub-directories, then I referenced the ckeditor.js file in my html pages, like so : <script type="text/javascript" src="ckeditor/ckeditor.js"></script> this works well. To make config changes, I have been modifying the ckeditor/config.js file. However, as of late, I have been reading various web resources that say 'do not delete the _source' folder and other such ominous messages. What is this _source folder? What is all the stuff at the root of the ckeditor folder? and, What is safe to remove from the folder?

• WCF - Passing CurrentPrincipal in the Header

  I have a WCF service that needs to know the Principal of the calling user. In the constructor of the service I have: Principal = OperationContext.Current.IncomingMessageHeaders.GetHeader<MyPrincipal>("myPrincipal", "ns"); and in the calling code I have something like: using (var factory = new ChannelFactory<IMyService>(localBinding, endpoint)) { var proxy = factory.CreateChannel(); using (var scope = new OperationContextScope((IContextChannel)proxy)) { var customHeader = MessageHeader.CreateHeader("myPrincipal", "ns", Thread.CurrentPrincipal); OperationContext.Current.OutgoingMessageHeaders.Add(customHeader); newList = proxy.CreateList(); } } This all works fine. My question is, how can I avoid having to wrap all proxy method calls in the using (var scope...{ [create header and add to OperationContext]? Could I create a custom ChannelFactory that will handle adding the myPrincipal header to the operation context? Something like that would save a whole load of copy/paste which I'd rather not do but I'm not sure how to achieve it:) Thanks

  Hey there, I never seem to get this right. I've got a method that returns a mutable array. What is the proper way to return the array and avoid potential memory leaks? If I plan to store the results locally inside another view controller, does that affect the way the array should be returned? Lastly, what if it's just an non-mutable array? • UIButton Origin and Device Orientation

  Hey there, I might be crazy, but for some reason this problem is stumping me. I have a view controller that is set to auto rotate to orientation. Inside I've got two subviews. One is a uibutton. All I want is for my button's origin to stay locked to the bottom-left in portrait and bottom-right in landscape (so it basically stays in the same place). It should also stay in place for portrait upside down and landscape right. Any ideas? Thanks, Howie

• NSNumberFormatter crashing iPhone SDK 4.0b2

  Hey there, I've got an app that's been in the app store for a while and functions perfectly on OS 3.1 - 3.13. However, when tested on 4.0b2 I noticed that it crashes in the same place every time, but only on the device, never on the simulator. I'm using a 3GS to test. On loadView I initialize an NSNumberFormatter object which is declared and retained in the interface so I have access to it everywhere. In my method I call it several times to convert string values into nsnumbers to be stored in a mutable dictionary. Here's an example: [myDictionary setObject:[myStyleFormatter numberFromString:@"1"] forKey:@"hours"]; [myDictionary setObject:[myStyleFormatter numberFromString:@"30"] forKey:@"minutes"]; [myDictionary setObject:[myStyleFormatter numberFromString:@"10"] forKey:@"seconds"]; For some reason it crashes as soon as it tries to set hours. The error is "attempt to insert nil value (key: hours)" Have I been doing something wrong all along? Has the api changed for 4.0b2? Thanks, Howie

• Advanced Django query with subselects and custom JOINS

  I have been investigating this number theoretic function (found in the Height model) and I need to query for things based on the prime factorization of the primary key, or id. I have created a model for Factors of the id which maintains all of the prime factors. class Height(models.Model): b = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) c = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) d = models.FloatField(null=True, blank=True) class Factors(models.Model): height = models.ForeignKey(Height, null=True, blank=True) factor = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) degree = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) prime_id = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) For example, if id=24, then the associated entries in the factors table would be height_id=24,factor=2,degree=3,prime_id=0 height_id=24,factor=3,degree=1,prime_id=1 the prime_id keep track of the relative order of the primes. Now let p < q < r < s all be prime numbers and a,b,c,d be positive integers. Then I want to be able to query for all Heights of the form id=(p**a)*(q**b)*(r**c)*(s**d). Now this is simple in the case that all of p,q,r,s,a,b,c,d are known in that I can just run Height.objects.get(id=(p**a)*(q**b)*(r**c)*(s**d)) But I need to be able to query for something like (2**a)*(3**2)*(r**c)*(s**d) where r,s,a,d are unknown and all Heights of such form will be returned. Furthermore, not all of the rows in Height will have exactly four prime factors, so I need to make sure that I am not matching rows of the form id=(p**a)*(q**b)*(r**c)*(s**d)*(t**e)... From what I can tell, the following MySQL query accomplishes this, but I would like to do it through the Django ORM. I also don't know if this MySQL query is the proper way to go about doing things.
