    I have a laptop which occasionally uses Ethernet and most of the time WiFi. Now I want to forward a port in the router so that it always points to my current IP. I'm likely to get different IPs from time to time and I can't really use a dedicated IP for the machine since the IPs are assigned by MAC address and the wireless card has a different MAC address than the Ethernet port. I'm using a NetGear CG3100 router.

  • HP Cue-Scanning Flow component freezes

    I am trying to scan with an HP network scanner (actually E6500 all-in-one). Whenever I try to scan, it starts up a flash screen with HP Scanning written all over it, which proceeds to do nothing. Digging in, I found that the process that gets stuck is hpqkygrp.exe, aka "HP CUE-Scanning Flow Component". This happened when I tried scanning from onenote or from the HP Solution Center. However, it seems that scanning from Windows' Fax and Scan utility works fine. As a (probably related) side-note, scanning directly from the scanner (using the buttons on its panel) doesn't work either. How can I keep this process from getting stuck?

The problem is this user does not have access to read/write to the specified java tmp directory (specified by the system). This means that every time the application tries to create a tmp file an IOException is thrown. Is there any way to make a java application that need access to the tmp directory run as a service without: Creating a new user specifically for the purspose Specifying a new tmp directory (which you will have to clean up yourself)

  • OS X - forwarding external port to local loopback address

    I have an HTTP service bound to port 8000 that I want to access from another computing on the network, but I can't seem to connect using the external IP address of the machine (e.g. 192.168.0.105). I've checked the OS X firewall isn't running, so I'm assuming the issue is the service is only bound to the IP address 127.0.0.1, and not the external IP address. What would be the easiest way to temporarily forward external connections on port 8000 to 127.0.0.1:8000?

  • IIS7 80 port outside doesn't work

    I have created web site, added to IIS 7, in the binding set up host name as "mysite.com". (here "mysite.com" is my registered domain that points to my IP address) So when I assigned port 8095 and open site as mysite.com:8095 it succesfully opens on my local pc and outsite my network pc, but if I set up port 80 there, http://mysite.com opens only on my pc, but not in outside pc. Firewall is disabled. How to resolve that problem, please help!?

NOTE: I came to know that "only the application which owns the connected socket should close it, which will happen when the application terminates." The scenario is like this: Login node A can be accessed from outside Compute node B that running the service can be accessed from A but not from outside. I want to set up iptables so that a request for the service on B from outside can be accessed through A. A has two ethernet ports: Internal eth0, with ip internal_A and External eth1, with ip external_A. B has 1 ethernet port, internal eth0. let's say its ip is internal_B The service listens to internal_B:5900. We open external_A:10000 for user access. I configure my iptables with the following commands: echo 1> /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward /sbin/iptables -P FORWARD ACCEPT /sbin/iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -j MASQUERADE /sbin/iptables -A PREROUTING -p tcp -t nat --dport 10000 -j DNAT --to-destination interal_B:5900 /sbin/iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -t nat -d external_A --dport 10000 -j DNAT --to-destination internal_B:5900 But it didn't work.   • MySQL port 3306 blocked in csf yet can still telnet to port 3306 from external host

    We have a Centos 6 VPS that was recently migrated to a new machine within the same web hosting company. It's running WHM/cPanel and has csf/lfd installed. csf is set up with mostly vanilla config. I'm no iptables expert, csf has not let me down before. If a port isn't in the TCP_IN list, it should be blocked on the firewall by iptables. My problem is that I can telnet to port 3306 from an external host, yet I think iptables ought to be blocking 3306 because of csf's rules. We are now failing a security check because of this open port. (this output is obfuscated to protect the innocent: www.ourhost.com is the host with the firewall problem) [root@nickfenwick log]# telnet www.ourhost.com 3306 Trying 158.255.45.107... Connected to www.ourhost.com. Escape character is '^]'. HHost 'nickfenwick.com' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL serverConnection closed by foreign host. So the connection is established, and MySQL refuses the connection due to its configuration. I need the network connection to be refused at the firewall level, before it reaches MySQL.   • Port forwarding on D-Link DIR-615 super-slow, useless

    Hello I have replaced my old router with DIR-615 from D-Link, and now the port forwarding is so slow it makes the router practically useless. Accessing the router itself (admin UI) is without issues, no delay whatsoever. But when I try to access a service on another computer in the network the requests take minutes and minutes. (E.g. I can see source of my GWT-app main page, but loading additional CSS and JS files takes years.) If anyone could recommend any further diagnostics I should do to figure out what is happening it would be great. Few notes: happens with more services (web-app on Tomcat, viewing directory index via Apache) it does not make a difference whether the service is hosted on wired or wireless PC accessing the service on a localhost works fine turning off firewall on the target PC does not make difference either (makes sense) when I replace this router with the old one (both 192.168.1.1) everything works fine I see nothing suspicious in the router's log I believe I have the latest firmware (4.11) DIR-615 sucks, it already died once completely Regards Jarda Z.

    I have a powered 7 port hub connected to my Ubuntu box and it does nothing. The devices (zip drive and web cam) work direct, but aren't recognized through the hub. This worked fine in Windows 7. I can't prove it is the OS because this is a new motherboard and processor. Any advice?   • One codebase - lots of hosted services (similar to a basecamp style service) - planning structure

    We have built a service (PHP Based) for a client, and are now looking to offer it to other clients as a hosted service. For this example, think of it like a hosted forum service, where a client signs up on our site, and is given a subdomain or can use their own domain, and the code picks up the domain, checks it against a 'master' users table, and then loads the content as needed. I'm trying to work out the best way of handling multiple clients. At the moment I can only think of two options that would work: Option 1 - Have 1 set of database tables, but on each table have a column called 'siteid' - this would mean every query has to check the siteid. This would effectively work with just 1 codebase, and 1 database. Option 2 - Have 1 'master' database with all the core stuff such as the client details and their domain. Then when the systen checks the domain, it pulls the clients database details (username/password/dbname) from a table, and loads a second database. The issue here is security of the mysql server details, however it does have the benefit that they are running their own database instead of sharing one. Which option would I be better taking here, and why? Ideally I want it to be fairly easy to convert the 'standalone' script to the 'multi-domain' script as we're on a tight deadline.

    I'm trying to install gitosis on a Server (hosted by OVH and running Ubuntu server 11.04). I've done it a few times and never had any problems. But this time I have something very wired when I simply try to clone gitosis. [root@ovks-1:~/]#git clone git://eagain.net/gitosis.git Cloning into gitosis... eagain.net[0: 208.78.102.120]: errno=Connection refused fatal: unable to connect a socket (Connection refused) zsh: exit 128 git clone git://eagain.net/gitosis.git Based on my searches it looks like the port 9418 is closed. But I don't understand, a server by definition shouldn't have any closed port and I can't find a way to see if they are. So how can I check is a port is open and how can I open it if closed?     I have a domain that i bought from DynDNS. I pointed the domain at my ip adress so i can run servers. The problem I have is that I don't live near the server computer... Can I use an ssh tunnel? As I understand it, this will let me access to my servers. I want the remote computer to direct traffic from port 8080 over the ssh tunnel to the ssh client, being my laptop's port 80. Is this possible?
