  • Costs and Scope in developing a typical iphone application

    Iam new to iphone development and have been tasked to development a fairly simple iphone application. It would basically show listings of information eg accommodations, restaurants...around 8-9 different types. Drilling on one would show the details of it. These are dynamically sourced from a db (through an xml feed) that powers an existing website. Also users should have ability to save favourites and also an interactive google map showing locations of these places. Just would like to know how long would such an iphone application take to develop and what would it costs. As iam new to iphone dev, i do not know how big the scope is, any complications to anticipate, scope creep issues, and how much to charge. Want to give a reasonable estimate so that i dont overcharge.

  • How does an interpreter switch scope?

    I'm asking this because I'm relatively new to interpreter development and I wanted to know some basic concepts before reinventing the wheel. I thought of the values of all variables stored in an array which makes the current scope, upon entering a function the array is swapped and the original array put on some sort of stack. When leaving the function the top element of the "scope stack" is popped of and used again. Is this basically right? Isn't swapping arrays (which means moving around a lot of data) not very slow and therefore not used by modern interpreters?

    In my app, I use Groovy as a scripting language. To make things easier for my customers, I have a global scope where I define helper classes and constants. Currently, I need to run the script (which builds the global scope) every time a user script is executed: context = setupGroovy(); runScript( context, "global.groovy" ); // Can I avoid doing this step every time? runScript( context, "user.groovy" ); Is there a way to setup this global scope once and just tell the embedded script interpreter: "Look here if you can't find a variable"? That way, I could run the global script once. Note: Security is not an issue here but if you know a way to make sure the user can't modify the global scope, that's an additional plus.

  • Why does WebSharingAppDemo-CEProviderEndToEnd sample still need a client db connection after scope c

    I'm researching a way to build an n-tierd sync solution. From the WebSharingAppDemo-CEProviderEndToEnd sample it seems almost feasable however for some reason, the app will only sync if the client has a live SQL db connection. Can some one explain what I'm missing and how to sync without exposing SQL to the internet? The problem I'm experiencing is that when I provide a Relational sync provider that has an open SQL connection from the client, then it works fine but when I provide a Relational sync provider that has a closed but configured connection string, as in the example, I get an error from the WCF stating that the server did not receive the batch file. So what am I doing wrong?     I have three models (Book,Snippet,User) and I'd like to create a scope for where(:approved = true) I'm doing this so I can use the merit gem to define ranking based on count of approved. I'm thinking that writing this as a scope might be to complex but I don't know as I've just started leaning scopes. I've currently got this in my Book & Snippet Model: scope :approved, -> { where(approved: true) } I've playing around with this in my user model but I don't think it's correct: scope :approved, joins(:books && :snippets) Could anyone help start me off or give me some suggestions on what to read?

    Here is the mysterious: I have a scope which looks like this (in Image.rb) scope :moderate_all, delegates.where("moderation_flag = #{$moderation_flags[:not_moderated]}") Note that delegates is another scope that I am defining before moderate_all When I leave it like this, I can run my test that checks if an image has been "checked-out" it is not available anymore. I don't put the code of the test, because it does not matter actually. With this code, when I run "rake test" it fails, but if I do "ruby test/unit/image_test.rb" it works! I was thinking I am starting to have a bad day. Then I tried scope :moderate_all, lambda { delegates.where("moderation_flag = #{$moderation_flags[:not_moderated]}") } And "rake test" passes! So my problem is solved, but why?

    Hey, I have created a Class (subclass of NSObject) which will hold all my SQLs/dbConnections etc.. in a seperate viewcontroller, i have instantiated the SQL's class and performed some actions, all went trough OK. but. one of my methods in the SQL's class is a method defined as follows: -(NSString *)queryTable:(NSUInteger *)fieldnum //query from db, and assign the field value into "fieldName" dbEntity = fieldName; [fieldName release]; } sqlite3_finalize(statement); } return dbEntity; } dbEntity is defined as NSString, and i have set it as a nonatoimc-retain property @property (nonatomic,retain) NSString *dbEntity; when ever i call this method out from my viewController and debug step by step, i see that the method is running, it is quering from the db as expected, but when it passes the value into dbEntity the values in dbEntity are suddenly "out of scope" that is... if i browse this specific action: dbEntity = fieldName; i can see values inside fieldName, but see "out of scope" in dbEntity.   • How to scope access to a service to set of users, using OpenLDAP, and only OUs

    Okay, here goes. Solving this will solve several problems for me (as I can reapply this knowledge to several extant, similar problems), but luckily I have a very specific, concise problem to describe. Enough preamble. Our hosting partner is setting up VPN access for us and is connecting it to our LDAP server. They are using Cisco VPN, the docs on setting this up are here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/products_configuration_example09186a00808c3c45.shtml#maintask1 Specifically, note the screenshot in (5), under "ASDM" Now, I do NOT want to provide access to all of our users. I only want to provide access to our IT group. But I do not see a configuration option for LDAP groups on that web reference for the Cisco VPN. We are using: OpenLDAP 2.4 Static groups (i.e. "Group has the following members...") Single user OU, "ou=users,dc=mycompany,dc=com" Is it possible to provide an alias of some kind in OpenLDAP that creates another OU, "itusers", say, and lets me alias the members of that OU somehow? Something like: "cn=Jeff Silverman,ou=itusers,dc=mycompany,dc=com" is an alias for "cn=Jeff Silverman,ou=users,dc=mycompany,dc=com" And is NOT a separate, unique user account. Alternatively, should I just create a separate OU and manage it separately? It is a pain, but only 12-15 users will have to be managed that way, with two separate user accounts. But I hate this option - messy, unmanageable, unscalable. You know what I mean. I am open to any options. I've searched and read all over but I can't quite find an directly analagous example. I can't possibly be the only one who's had this problem! Thanks!

  • Google Earth - zoom like with a scope, rotate the camera

    I know it is possible to change a viewing altitude in Google Earth, but is it possible to zoom in/out as well, like with a telescope? I would like to preview what could be viewed from a particular lookout point, but without zoom in it seems very hard. Another feature which would be handy for the purpose: is it possible to turn the viewing direction around the camera, and not around the target?

  • JsLint 'out of scope' error

Is there something actually wrong with this code piece, as the variable is eventually hoisted to the top of the function anyways.

    I'm trying to compile this function from Learn You a Haskell for Great Good. removeNonUppercase st = [ c | c <- st, c `elem` ['A'..'Z']] by placing it into a removeNonUpperCase.hs file. It compiles fine, but when passing the argument: ghci> removeNonUppercase "Hahaha! Ahahaha!" the compiler says: <interactive>:1:0: Not in scope: 'removeNonUpperCase' Why?

    Hi, I am trying to compile my c program in ubuntu 9.10 (gcc 4.4.1). I am getting this error: Rect.cpp:344: error: ‘memset’ was not declared in this scope But the problem is I have already included in my cpp file: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> And the same program compiles fine under ubuntu 8.04 gcc 4.2.4). Please tell me what am i missing. Thank you.

  • "out of scope" error when iterating an NSMutableArray

    Why am I getting an "out of scope" error whenever I try to access the "url" variable in this loop? for(NSString *url in self.winnerImageURLs) { [mediaItemString appendFormat:@"{\"type\":\"image\",\"src\":\"%@\",\"href\":\"%@\"},", url, url]; } The class of very item in the "self.winnerImageURLs" NSMutableArray comes back as NSCFString so I'm not sure what the dealio is here. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong??? Thanks

  • Scope of Derived Tables in SQL Server

    I've been looking into SQL recently and exploring a bit. in regards to Temp Tables I have discovered 3 different temp table types: 1) CREATE TABLE #TempTable 2) DECLARE TABLE @TempTable 3) SELECT * FROM (SELECT * FROM Customers) AS TempTable Now I understand the scope behind the #TempTable and the @TempTable types, but what about the derived table as in example 3? Where does this derived table get stored? and if it is declared in 1 transaction, can a 2nd transaction access it, or is the scoping of Derived Tables that same as example 1 and 2?
