  • Ubuntu 12.04 on VMware Player loses network configuration

    I've been having this issue for 2 weeks now with my VMware Player-hosted Ubuntu 12.04. I only use it for my LAMP stack. I've had no issues with it before until about 2 weeks ago when it almost always (once per day at least) loses its network configuration. On boot it shows: Waiting for network configuration... Waiting up to 60 more seconds for network configuration... Booting system without full network configuration... Then when I do ifconfig -a it doesn't show an IP Address and couldn't get online. The only resolutions I've found so far was either to reinstall VMware Tools or use the VMware Player installer and choose Repair. This is frustrating to me because even when the issue was resolved after doing either of the steps I mentioned, the IP Address gets changed. Then I'd have to update the Remote Configuration of my IDE (Netbeans) and my database manager. What could possible cause this? Please help. Thank you. Additional details: I'm using a laptop with Windows 7 and connected to the office WiFi, which is unrestricted as far as I know. Thanks again.

  • IIS login / logout interferes with media player

    So I'm listening to music with Windows Media Player, going insane because the music randomly stops playback every so often. I finally notice that it correlates with instances of csrss, winlogon, and logonui repeatedly starting and quitting. I finally tracked that down to IIS repeatedly logging on and off due to WebDAV requests going through my user account (my laptop syncing up with OneNote over WebDAV). I see tons of spam in my security event log for the logins. I am surprised that IIS needs to log in this much. This has only been happening for a couple of months. I'm not sure where the actual problem lies - with IIS, or Media Player, or what, so I figured I'd try and find out if the IIS login behavior is actually abnormal. Is it normal for IIS to log in this much? And is it normal for that to keep spawning winlogon, csrss, and logonui every second or so? I see a constant stream of logon events in the event log every few seconds presumably while OneNote is syncing. Logon (id = 1, source = laptop), Special Logon (id = 1, sets up privileges), Special Logon (id = 1, seems to set up the same privileges), Logon (id = 2, same laptop), Logoff (id = 2), Logoff (id = 1) The DefaultAppPool (only one apparently in use) has its idle timeout set to 20 minutes, and load user profile set to false. Not sure what other settings (if any) might be relevant.

  • Vmware player change dhcp server settings

    I have a Windows Server 2003 running from a Vmware player on Win 7 box. The idea is to test Windows Deployment service in the virtual network. Is it possible to configure the vmware dhcp server with WDS related stuff(option 66, 67)? I found a few references where people were using the vnetlib.exe to start, stop the dhcp serverchange the subnet mask etc - but there's no info on how to get set the dhcp server options. DHCP config from the virtual network editor I do have the Workstation, without the license for it. In the Virtual network Editor, the DHCP settings for the network I'm using, only allows me to set the subnetmask, IP ranges and stuff like that. But not the dhcp options. DHCP server on the WDS server Authorizing the DHCP server in the guest WDS server fails. The VMware player can run its own dhcp server fro the virtual network with out any authorization from the Active directory - can I do the same, with Win dhcp server in the guest Win Server? ~~~~~ Can I authorize W2K8 DHCP server for private network, even when prohibited in enterprise network? says we have to run a third party dhcp server... :/.

  • Window Media Player issues two requests for the audio on web page

    I'm using Windows Media Player in a web page. I have version 11 installed so that is the version I'm testing with right now. The player is embedded on the page with this HTML: <OBJECT id='MS_mediaPlayer' width="400" height="45" classid='CLSID:6BF52A52-394A-11D3-B153-00C04F79FAA6' codebase='http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=5,1,52,701' standby='Loading Microsoft Windows Media Player components...' type='application/x-oleobject'> <param name='autoStart' value="false"> <param name='uiMode' value="invisible"> <param name='loop' value="false"> </OBJECT> I'm calling in JavaScript: MS_mediaPlayer.URL = "SomeAudioFile.mp3" MS_mediaPlayer.controls.play(); When I look at Fiddler I can see that the player actually downloads "SomeAudioFile.mp3" twice. Is there some setting I have wrong? I was trying to set the "autoPlay" to true and avoid calling "play()". Got the same result - two downloads. UPDATE: The first request's user-agent is "Windows-Media-Player/11.0.5721.5268". The second has "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; GTB6; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.648; .NET CLR 3.5.21022; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729)". Looks like the browser is running the same request the second time. No Idea why Any ideas? UPDATE (4/1/10): Still no solution. I debugged the JS thoroughly and there is only one call to MediaPlayer.URL='.....' to set the audio file. Nothing else triggers the media player to load the file and there is no other place referencing the audio file on the page. One other interesting fact is that this doesn't happen (the double loading of the audio) when I run the browser locally on my development web server. But other remote requests to the same web server generate the double audio loading. I believe I eliminated any correlation with specific IE version or media player version. This happens with IE6-8 and WM9-12

  • OpenGL camera moves faster than player

    I have a side scroller game made in OpenGL, and I'm trying to center the player in the viewport when he moves. I know how to do it: cameraX = Width / 2 / TileSize - playerPosX cameraY = Height / 2 / TileSize - playerPosY However, I have a problem. The player and "camera" move, but the player moves faster than the "camera" scrolls. So, the player can actually move out of the screen. Some code, this is how I translate the camera: public Camera(){ } public void update(Player p){ glTranslatef(-p.getPos().x - Main.WIDTH / 64 / 2, -p.getPos().y - Main.HEIGHT / 64 / 2, 1); } Here's how I move the player: public void update(){ if(Keyboard.isKeyDown(Keyboard.KEY_D)){ this.move(MOVESPEED, 0); } if(Keyboard.isKeyDown(Keyboard.KEY_A)){ this.move(-MOVESPEED, 0); } } The move method: public void move(float x, float y){ this.getPos().set(this.getPos().x + x, this.getPos().y + y); } And then after I move the player, I update the player's geometry, which shouldn't matter. What am I doing wrong here, this seems like such a simple problem, yet it doesn't work!

  • Rotate a Video 90 degrees with VLC or Windows Live Movie Maker

    Have you ever captured video with your cell phone or camcorder only to discover when you play it back on your computer that the video is rotated 90 degrees? Or maybe you shot it that way on purpose because you preferred portrait style to a landscape view? Before you go straining your neck or flipping your monitor on it’s side to watch your video, we’ll show you a few easier methods. If you simply want to rotate the video while you watch it, we’ll show you how to accomplish that with VLC Media Player. If you want to convert the video so it is rotated permanently, we’ll show you how to do that with Windows Live Movie Maker and output your video as a WMV file. Rotate and Watch a Video in VLC Download, install, and run VLC Media Player. (See download link below)   Open your video file by going to Media  > Open File… and browsing for your file. Or, by just dragging and dropping your video onto the VLC player.   Choose Tools from the Menu bar and select Effects and Filters. On the Video Effects tab, tick the Transform checkbox and choose your degrees of rotation. The video is rotated counter-clockwise, so to rotate clockwise 90 degrees you’ll want to choose Rotate by 270 degrees.   Now you can enjoy your video the way it was intended to be viewed. Rotate and Convert the Video with Windows Live Movie Maker Starting with Windows 7, Windows Movie Maker no longer comes pre-installed with the OS. It’s now part of the Windows Live suite that is available as a separate, free download for Windows 7 and Vista. (Windows XP is not supported) You can find the link to our detailed instruction on how to install Windows Live at the end of the article. To add your video files to Windows Movie Maker, click on Add videos and photos on the Home tab, or drag and drop the video into the blank area on the right side of the application. Next, you’ll need to rotate the video. Staying on the Home tab, click on the Rotate right 90° or Rotate left 90°.   You’ll see your video is now oriented properly on the left.   To save and convert your video to WMV format, click the Movie Maker tab just to the left of the Home tab. Hover your cursor over Save movie, and then select your output settings. You also have the option to burn directly to DVD. Browse for a location to save it and rename the output file if you’d like. Click Save. You’ll be notified when the file is complete. Now you’ll have your video properly oriented in WMV file format.   These are two rather easy ways to accomplish rotating your video. Unfortunately, Windows Live Movie Maker doesn’t give you a lot of  options for output. If you want to output to a file, your only choice is WMV format or DVD.   • Take Snapshots of Your Favorite Movie Scenes in VLC

    Have you ever wanted to grab a screenshot of your favorite TV or movie scene? Today we’ll show you how to do so with VLC Media Player. If you don’t have it already, download and install the latest version of VLC (link below). Start playing your movie, and to grab a snapshot, select Video from the menu and click Snapshot.   When you take a snapshot, by default a preview is displayed at the top left and the folder where the file is saved is briefly displayed on the screen. If you enable the Advanced Controls, you can take a snapshot with a click of a button, and advance the video frame by frame to get a more accurate shot. To enable the Advanced Controls, select View and Advanced Controls.   You’ll see the Advanced Controls buttons appear below the slider. Now just click on the Snapshot button to grab an image.   You can more easily control the frame you wish to grab by pressing the Frame by Frame button. You can pause the movie when it is near the perfect spot for your snapshot, and then press the Frame by Frame button to advance a single frame at a time. By default, the snapshots are saved as PNG files in your My Pictures folder in Windows. You can change those setting in the Preferences. First, you’ll need to select All under Show settings at the bottom. Then click on Video on the left. Scroll down a bit and you’ll see the Snapshot section. Here you can change the format from PNG to JPG, change the directory to which the snapshots are stored, turn on and off the preview, and change the filename prefix. Click Save when finished.   Now you have nice screenshots of your favorite movie to display as you wish…such as a Desktop Background!   VLC is an excellent media player that runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. In addition to playing almost any media file, it also makes grabbing screenshots of your videos a breeze. Want to know more about VLC?   • Windows Media Player Object with Video_TS Files - No Sound Anymore

    I copied a bunch of my DVDs (yes, owned) to a drive and created a basic webpage to be able to search and play them. I am using the code at the bottom to create a Windows Media Player object and then play the video. The video files are pulled off the DVD in the original format so each movie has files like this: VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_0.IFO VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_01_2.VOB VTS_01_3.VOB VTS_01_4.VOB VTS_01_5.VOB VTS_01_6.VOB This all worked great until just recently. On my dev machine, I can play the videos but now, all of a sudden, there is no sound. I have tried the following but no luck: The video is not muted and the sound is at 50% Under the sound icon, under mixer, I checked IE and it is fine Sound works fine using another program, says WinAmp Opening Windows Media Player directly from the Start Menu and then playing the same movie works fine and I get sound I ensured that the option in IE to play sound on websites is checked I can play sound on other people's websites where they have embedded WMP files I tried resetting all of the IE settings on the Advanced tab in IE I tried my website, with my code below on another computer, AND IT WORKS FINE! I tried copying the media files listed above from the computer that works fine to my dev computer and it still doesn't work. If I try using a ".wmv" file, the sound does work By the way, I am using Win7 with IE8. As you can see, this is driving me crazy! Why would it stop working on my one computer and the same code and files work fine on another computer? I can get a list of content on the NAS device, but when I press play, it does not play, but displays the text path of the media file itself. In short it does not play streamed content, whereas the same content I am able to play using Windows based Internet Explorer. I meed a media player to work with embedded linux....

  • Windows Media Player - always show Current Time/Total Time

    I'm using Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7. When I open a video file then it by default only shows the current position (time). If I click on it once then it changes to format Current Time / Total Time Is there any way to make this format permanent (registry hack/some setting I have not noticed)? Right now every time I close WMP and open another file it's back to the default (only current time) setting.

  • VMWare Player: how to avoid always-on-top of other windows

    This question seems a little bit related, but not fully (I'm not using two monitors nor full-screen mode). I'm running VMWare Player 2.5.4 on Windows XP in normal window mode. Unfortunately, if I switch to other applications, VMWare remains the front-most window. I can avoid it by clicking the other application's title bar or if it pops up a dialog, but how can I avoid VMWare's "always-on-top"-mode completely?

  • How to right click and play audio folder on Windows Media Player 12

    It's always been hard for me to add a music folder with subfolders to Windows Media Player's playlist. I double click a file in the folder (or click on WMP shortcut), WMP opens, and I drag the other files or folders manually to the playlist. Isn't there an option to add a right-click context menu item that can automatically add all audio contents in a folder (with subfolders) to WMP playlist?
