    On Mac OS X, you can create a zip archive from the Finder by selecting some files and selecting "Compress" from the contextual menu or the File menu. Unfortunately, the resulting file is not identical to the archive created by the zip command (with the default options). This distinction matters to at least one service operated by Apple, which fails to accept archives created with the zip command. Having to create archives manually is preventing me from fully automating my release build process. How can I create a zip archive in the correct format within a shell script?

  • Cannot copy files from external hard drive to desktop hard drive in Window 7

    I'm trying to copy some old files from one of my external hard-drives to the hard drive of my desktop PC. Some files can not be copied but giving the error like 'Cannot read from source file or disk'. Those files are videos files (.DAT, .VOB, .MPG) and I watched them all the way through with no issues so the files aren't corrupted. I'm running Windows 7, with admin permissions. Could any one let me know the reason and a solution?

    I knew that WebLogic had this small ZIP distribution, of only 184M, but what I didn't know was that it is so easy to install it on Linux machines, specially for development purposes, that I thought I had to blog about it. You may want to check this blog, where I found the missing part on this how to, but I'm blogging this again because I wanted to put it in a simpler way, straight to the point. And if you are looking for a how to for Mac, check Arun Gupta's post.  So, here's the step-by-step: 1 - Download the ZIP distribution (don't worry if your system is x86_64)Don't forget to accept the OTN Free Developer License Agreement! 2 - Choose where to install your WebLogic server and your domain, and set as your MW_HOME environment variableI will use /opt/middleware/weblogic for this how to export MW_HOME=/opt/middleware/weblogicMake sure this path exists in your system. 'mydomains' will be used to keep your WebLogic domain. mkdir -p $MW_HOME/mydomain 3 - If you don't have your JAVA_HOME environment variable still configured, do it.     I'm writing a ASP.NET application to process user submitted zip files and limiting my extraction of files from it to only the extensions I want. I've heard of infected zip files attached to emails and I was wondering if I should be concerned about extracting data from infected zip files in my application. I don't plan on executing the content inside of the zip file, but will opening and extracting from an infected zip file cause the file to execute a virus even if I'm not executing any content inside of the zip file?

  • Using ZLib unit to compress files vs using ZipForge

    There are many questions on zipping in Delphi, anyway this is not a duplicate. I am using ZipForge for zip/unzip capability in my application. Currently I use 2 features of ZipForge: 1) zip and unzip (!) 2) password protect the archives Now I am removing the password from all the archives so I need only to zip and unzip files. I zip them just for minimizing bandwith when uploading/downloading files from the server. So my idea is to process all files once for unzipping them (with password) and rezipping them without password. I have nothing against ZipForge, anyway it is an extra component, every time I upgrade to a newest Delphi version I have to wait for the new IDE support and moreover the more components the more problems during the installation. So since what I do is very simple I'd like to replace ZipForge with 2 simple functinos using the ZLib unit. I found (and tested) the functions here on Torry's. What do you think of using Zlib unit? Do you see any potential problem that I would not have with ZipForge? Can you comment on speed?

  • Is there a way to determine the original size or file count of a 7-zip archive?

    I know that when I compress an archive with the 7za utility, it gives me stats like the number of files processed and the amount of bytes processed (the original size of the data). Is it possible, using the commandline (on linux) or some programming language, to determine: the original size of an archive, before it was compressed? the number of files/directories contained within an archive? The answer might be "no, just decompress the whole archive and do counting/sizing then", but it would be useful to know if there was a faster/less space-greedy way.

  • Merging `Program Files` and `Program Files (x86)` folders in Windows 7 64-bit

    Windows 7 64-bit version installs 32-bit programs to Program Files (x86) folder, and 64-bit programs to Program Files folder. Of course, Microsoft must have a reason for doing that, but as a user I don't find it handy to have 2 separate program folders. Is there any way to merge those folders into one (preferably, Program Files) without corrupting installed programs? And would it be a problem to install 32-bit applications into Program Files folder?
