  • Git: get back my commited data from a messed up local repo

    I am a newbie to git so I think I made something stupid (will move back to hg soon ;-)) Assume I'm at version A and I commited a change but didn't want that. Now assume we have version B. I didn't found a good solution how to cleanly roll B back to A but went back to A via checkout and continued commiting - assume I have version C. A--->B \-->C Now the problem is that those commits were successfull (I can see the SHA's and the msg in .git/logs/HEAD) but the commits do not show up in the log and I couldn't push them to github. Before detecting the mess I checkout to 'master' ... and git rolled all back to B. How can I get my version C back or are my changes lost? Is this the same problem as described here? Please close. I posted it here. On stackoverflow seems to be more questions related to that ...

  • How to tunnel local port through proxy server?

    I have a non-proxy-aware program that I need to get working through an HTTP proxy server. The program (MYPROG) running on a machine I can configure at will (MYSRV) connects to a specific server (DESTSRV) on a specific port (DESTPRT). There is an existing HTTP proxy server (PROXYSRV:PROXYPRT) that will allow the traffic through if MYPROG was proxy-aware, but it isn't. Is there a way to listen locally on a specific port and forward the traffic through the proxy server? I can totally configure where MYPROG points to, so I could point it to MYSRV:4545 with the thought that some wonder program will redirect the data to DESTSRV:DESTPRT through PROXYSRV:PROXYPRT. I'm thinking IP Tables or netcat could do the trick if only I could figure them out... Thanks!

  • Mixing both local and nonlocal addresses on three switches

    I have four computers that have nonlocal addresses like 150.X.X.X. Now I also get another few computers that should be only accessible through a gateway (it will be computing cluster) and they addresses are 10.0.0.X. I also wanted to include those four older computers to this new cluster, but I want them to be accessible from internet on nonlocal addresses (so I would like to set up them on both 150.X.X.X and 10.0.0.X addresses - I've set up it as interface eth0:0 since I have only one NIC). Those new computers have their switch and old computers also have their own switch. Both of them are connected to another (third) switch. The problem is that those old computers see each other (I can ping them), and also new computers see each other, but I can't ping old computer from new computer and vice versa. However pinging on nonlocal adresses works as expected. I looked into switch configuration and didn't find anything useful. I have no idea what I missed here. Can somebody help? All computers have Ubuntu Server 10.04

  • Host PC can't see file-system on local VMWare VM

    I am running VMWare Workatation 8.0 on a Windows7 host, hosting a Windows7 VM. It's working fine except that the host cannot see the files on the VM when it's running. The VM is running locally on the host, not on the network. I found a page saying I simply need to share the folders on either side and the other can see them, but this isn't working. VMWare Workstation has a handy tool to share folders from the host drive to the VM, but I need the opposite - I have software installed on the host (for licensing reasons) which I need to use to work on files within the VM.

  • Cannot login SQL Server after changing machine name

    After installing and setting up new machines in a domain, we decided to rename one of them which had a SQL Server instance installed. So I changed the hostname, everything went fine regarding the domain but now, the server is logging a approximatively 2 SQL Server errors every 5 minutes and I cannot connect to the instance localy or from anywhere within the domain. Here is the error from the event log: SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c, state 14 while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. Reason: AcceptSecurityContext failed. The Windows error code indicates the cause of failure. The logon attempt failed [CLIENT: x.x.x.x] Concerning the instance, everything is started and restarted without any extra error.

  • Changing the name of a binary packaged application and its evoking command

    I have taken the source code of a large project, App A, and made many modifications to it to produce my version, App B. Both App A and App B compile cleanly on Debian and Red Hat and now I would like to build binary packages for both platforms. The last modification I need to make is ensuring App B can be installed alongside App A without any interference. I should be able to evoke both application-a and application-b in the terminal and have both be listed as separate software in whatever desktop environment is present. The projects have a debian/ folder (containing rules, control, etc.) and an rpm/ folder containing a SPEC file. Currently, building and installing the .rpm and .deb packages works except that App B is recognized as App A and therefore does not meet the aforementioned requirements. ldd shows the programs have the same exact dependencies and I am not able to pursue static linking of libraries. What modifications do I need to make to my project to achieve the desired outcome? Please be specific as I do not have much experience with the packaging process.

    I have some portable apps and when I download them they extract to a normal directory structure, but the structure includes a version number, How do I create a start-up shortcut to the program so it doesn’t break when the application is updated? For example: I can create a shortcut to “D:\PortableApp\V1\prog.exe” and place the shortcut into Startup items and it works fine. Now the program is updated to V1.1. How do I get the shortcut to update to “D:\PortableApp\V1.1\prog.exe”without manually updating the shortcut? Thanks in advance mikeparkie

    I use TextMate on Mac OS X to develop. The files I need to edit are on a Linux machine, and I have the Linux filesystem mounted on my Mac OS X. Opening the files and saving them in TextMate is not a problem. What I want to do (from my Mac OS X) is be able to... SSH <linux> cd <folder> mate <filename> I want that to open up the file in TextMate on my Mac OS X (thus, shifting focus from my Terminal.app to TextMate.app). How can I achieve this effect?

  • Domain name is bringing up wrong site

    I have a VPS that hosts several domains. I have set up Apache in the following manner: First VirtualHost /etc/apache2/sites-available/somedomain.com <VirtualHost somedomain.com:80> ServerName somedomain.com ServerAlias www.somedomain.com ... </VirtualHost> Second VirtualHost /etc/apache2/sites-available/someotherdomain.com <VirtualHost someotherdomain.com:80> ServerName someotherdomain.com ServerAlias www.someotherdomain.com ... </VirtualHost> Then I symlink the config files from sites-available to sites-enabled and all is well. I had a need to 'turn off' someotherdomain.com, so I removed the symlink to /etc/apache2/sites-available/someotherdomain.com from sites-enabled and the site no longer shows up... BUT typing someotherdomain.com into a web browser brings up somedomain.com!!! I need it to not resolve at all. Does somethiing need to be done in the VirtualHost to just automatically return a 500 or something along those lines. I really don't want people to reach one website from a different domain. Thanks!   • iPhone UIWebView local resources using Javascript and handling onorientationChange

    I'm trying to server HTML Javascript and CSS content from an iPhone application's local resources, and I'm having trouble handling onOrientationChange events and including external Javascript. I seem to be able to link in CSS properly but not javascript. I'm trying to use the following example of handling onOrientationChange (How to build an iPhone website) but I'm serving the webpage from my app's NSBundle mainBundle.   • How you remember by default functionality/class name etc of the platform

    Hello everyone, I am 8 months experienced guy, (B.tech in computer science) In my college time i used to create simple programs in c/c++/java. Simple programs like creating linked list/binary trees programs. frankly saying those college bullshit exercise.(I am from India so Engg colleges in india sucks except few like IIT's etc). In my college time apart from my college exercises i created some better programs/games like arachnoid, snake. We had 6 months internship in our college curriculum. I worked on asp.net. Basically the work was to create a website with some random functionality. After that in my job i worked on php and successfully deployed 4 projects. All having lot of functionality and i was the only team member in all the projects. Now i am learning ruby on rails as i switched to a new firm. I also have to work on android or iphone depending upon on what mobile technology i want to choose or i can work on both of the technologies. My project manager says take your time to learn things. we are not in hurry to place you in any project. Work on things by your self. take 3 4 months to learn. But i am not getting good pace. I am quite confident with php/asp etc but i dont able to grasp things in android. Although my c/c++ background is quite good, having a good logical mind. But i am not able to grasp the things in android. Even learning some basics of rails i found it wtf. Why i have make model name singular and table name plural.By default that action name and name of the file in view is same I just hate the word MAGIC mentioned more than 100 times in the book. (agile-web-development-with-rails) (I am talking about default functionality, I can over ride them that i know, so please dont debate on that) I not saying i am not getting the things. My point is remembering the default functionality is a pissing me off. Lots of classes. Lots of files . specify this thing here. That thing there. All these things (remember which class does what) require some time or i am missing something. For my point of view i am having all these problems cause previously i never used object oriented programming approach in php. (I NEVER USED, I AM NOT SAYING THET ARE NOT) How you people explain it. How you people suggest me to do. I am looking suggestions from some seniors.From seniors in my office.They says you good dude. But i dont know i am not geting confidence in the things. When they ask me anythings about the topics i cover. I give them good answers. So when i discuss this problem with them they says there is no problem just keep on working. And sorry for my poor english.

URL of Team Project Collection. /teamproject Required. Specifies the name of the team project. /processtemplate Required. Specifies that name of the process template. /webapplication The name of the SharePoint Web Application. Must also specify relativepath. /relativepath The path for the site relative to the root URL for the SharePoint Web Application. Must also specify webapplication. /validate Specifies that the user inputs are to be validated. If specified, only validation will be done and no portal setting will be changed. /verbose Switches on the verbose mode. I created a new Team Project in TFS 2010 Beta 1 and choose not to configure SharePoint during the creation of the Team Project. Of course I found out fairly quickly that a portal for TFS is very useful, especially the Iteration and the Product backlog workbooks and the dashboard reports. This blog describes how you can configure the sharepoint portal afterwards. Update: September 9th, 2009 Adding the portal afterwards is much easier as described below. Here are the steps Step 1: Create a new temporary project (with a SharePoint site for it). Open the Team Explorer Right click in the Team Explorer the root node (i.e. the project collection) Select "New team project" from the menu Walk throught he wizard and make sure you check the option to create the portal (which is by default checked) Step 2: Disable the site for the new project Open the Team Explorer Select the team project you created in step 1 In the menu click on Team -> Show Project Portal. In the menu click on Team -> Team Project Settings -> Portal Settings... The following dialog pops up Uncheck the option "Enable team project portal" Confirm the dialog with OK Step 3: Enable the site for the original one. Point it to the newly created site. Open the Team Explorer Select the team project you want to add the portal to In the menu open Team -> Team Project Settings -> Portal Settings... The same dialog as in step 2 pops up Check the option "Enable team project portal" Click on the "Configure URL" button The following dialog pops up   In the dialog select in the combobox of the web application the TFS server Enter in the Relative site path the text "sites/[Project Collection Name]/[Team Project Name created in step 1]" Confirm the "Specify an existing SharePoint Site" with OK Check the "Reports and dashboards refer to data for this team project" option Confirm the dialog "Project Portal Settings" with OK Step 4: Delete the temporary project you created. In Beta 1, I have found no way to delete a team project. Maybe it will be available in TFS 2010 Beta 2. Original post Step 1: Create new portal site Go to the sharepoint site of your project collection (/sites//default.aspx">/sites//default.aspx">http://<servername>/sites/<project_collection_name>/default.aspx) Click on the Site Actions at the left side of the screen and choose the option Site Settings In the site settings, choose the Sites and workspaces option Create a new site Enter the values for the Title, the description, the site address. And choose for the TFS2010 Agile Dashboard as template. Create the site, by clicking on the Create button Step 2: Integrate portal site with team project Open Visual Studio Open the Team Explorer (View -> Team Explorer) Select in the Team Explorer tool window the Team Project for which you are create a new portal Open the Project Portal Settings (Team -> Team Project Settings -> Portal Setings...) Check the Enable team project portal checkbox Click on Configure URL... You will get a new dialog as below Enter the url to the TFS server in the web application combobox And specify the relative site path: sites/<project collection>/<site name> Confirm with OK Check in the Project Portal Settings dialog the checkbox "Reports and dashboards refer to data for this team project" Confirm the settings with OK (this takes a while...) When you now browse to the portal, you will see that the dashboards are now showing up with the data for the current team project. Step 3: Download process template To get a copy of the documents that are default in a team project, we need to have a fresh set of files that are not attached to a team project yet. You can do that with the following steps. Start the Process Template Manager (Team -> Team Project Collection Settings -> Process Template Manager...) Choose the Agile process template and click on download Choose a folder to download Step 4: Add Product and Iteration backlog Go to the Team Explorer in Visual Studio Make sure the team project is in the list of team projects, and expand the team project Right click the Documents node, and choose New Document Library Enter "Shared Documents", and click on Add Right click the Shared Documents node and choose Upload Document Go the the file location where you stored the process template from step 3 and then navigate to the subdirectory "Agile Process Template 5.0\MSF for Agile Software Development v5.0\Windows SharePoint Services\Shared Documents\Project Management" Select in the Open Dialog the files "Iteration Backlog" and "Product Backlog", and click Open Step 5: Bind Iteration backlog workbook to the team project Right click on the "Iteration Backlog" file and select Edit, and confirm any warning messages Place your cursor in cell A1 of the Iteration backlog worksheet Switch to the Team ribbon and click New List. Click the Document Properties – Server drop down and select Advanced Properties. Switch to the Custom tab and add the following properties using the values you collected above.   • Do there exist programming languages where a variable can truly know its own name?

    In PHP and Python one can iterate over the local variables and, if there is only once choice where the value matches, you could say that you know what the variable's name is, but this does not always work. Machine code does not have variable names. C compiles to assembly and does not have any native reflection capabilities, so it would not know it's name. (Edit: per Anton's answer the pre-processor can know the variable's name). Do there exist programming languages where a variable would know it's name? It gets tricky if you do something like b = a and b does not become a copy of a but a reference to the same place. EDIT: Why in the world would you want this? I can think of one example: error checking that can survive automatic refactoring. Consider this C# snippet: private void CheckEnumStr(string paramName, string paramValue) { if (paramName != "pony" && paramName != "horse") { string exceptionMessage = String.Format( "Unexpected value '{0}' of the parameter named '{1}'.", paramValue, paramName); throw new ArgumentException(exceptionMessage); } } ... CheckEnumStr("a", a); // Var 'a' does not know its name - this will not survive naive auto-refactoring There are other libraries provided by Microsoft and others that allow to check for errors (sorry the names have escaped me). I have seen one library which with the help of closures/lambdas can accomplish error checking that can survive refactoring, but it does not feel idiomatic. This would be one reason why I might want a language where a variable knows its name.

    If I move the application resources to a UserControl resources everythgin runs groovy. I still don't understand why. I noticed that my application object MyApp did more than inherit from Application it loaded an XAML for the main template and connected all the plumbing.   • Wildcard mapping in IIS 7.0 not working

    I can't seem to get the ASP.NET engine to handle ALL wildcard mapping. When I try to make a request that is supposed to be handled by the asp.net engine, i get a 404 error from the StaticFile handler Here is the content of my web.config file.   • Committed JDO writes do not apply on local GAE HRD, or possibly reused transaction

    I'm using JDO 2.3 on app engine. I was using the Master/Slave datastore for local testing and recently switched over to using the HRD datastore for local testing, and parts of my app are breaking (which is to be expected). One part of the app that's breaking is where it sends a lot of writes quickly - that is because of the 1-second limit thing, it's failing with a concurrent modification exception. Okay, so that's also to be expected, so I have the browser retry the writes again later when they fail (maybe not the best hack but I'm just trying to get it working quickly). But a weird thing is happening. Some of the writes which should be succeeding (the ones that DON'T get the concurrent modification exception) are also failing, even though the commit phase completes and the request returns my success code. I can see from the log that the retried requests are working okay, but these other requests that seem to have committed on the first try are, I guess, never "applied." But from what I read about the Apply phase, writing again to that same entity should force the apply... but it doesn't. Code follows. Some things to note: I am attempting to use automatic JDO caching. So this is where JDO uses memcache under the covers. This doesn't actually work unless you wrap everything in a transaction. all the requests are doing is reading a string out of an entity, modifying part of the string, and saving that string back to the entity. If these requests weren't in transactions, you'd of course have the "dirty read" problem. But with transactions, isolation is supposed to be at the level of "serializable" so I don't see what's happening here. the entity being modified is a root entity (not in a group) I have cross-group transactions enabled Another weird thing is happening. If the concurrent modification thing happens, and I subsequently edit more than 5 more entities (this is the max for cross-group transactions), then nothing happens right away, but when I stop and restart the server I get "IllegalArgumentException: operating on too many entity groups in a single transaction". Could it be possible that the PMF is returning the same PersistenceManager every time, or the PM is reusing the same transaction every time? I don't see how I could possibly get the above error otherwise. The code inside the transaction just edits one root entity. I can't think of any other way that GAE would give me the "too many entity groups" error. Here's what I do: I create a Foo (root entity), do a bunch of concurrent operations on that Foo, and some fail and get retried, and some commit but don't apply (as described above). Then, I start creating more Foos, and do a few operations on those new Foos. If I only create four Foos, stopping and restarting app engine does NOT give me the IllegalArgumentException. However if I create five Foos (which is the limit for cross-group transactions), then when I stop and restart app engine, I do get the exception. So it seems that somehow these new Foos I am creating are counting toward the limit of 5 max entities per transaction, even though they are supposed to be handled by separate transactions. It's as if a transaction is still open and is being reused by the servlet when it handles the new requests for the 2nd through 5th Foos. EDIT2: it looks like the IllegalArgument thing is independent of the other bug. In other words, it always happens when I create five Foos, even if I don't get the concurrent modification exception. I don't know if it's a symptom of the same problem or if it's unrelated. EDIT3: I found out what was causing the (unrelated) IllegalArgumentException, it was a dumb mistake on my part. But the other issue is still happening. EDIT4: added pseudocode for the datastore access EDIT5: I am pretty sure I know why this is happening, but I will still award the bounty to anyone who can confirm it. Basically, I think the problem is that transactions are not really implemented in the local version of the datastore. Therefore, I get a dirty read when two transactions try to modify the record at the same time. In other words, A reads the data and B reads the data at the same time. A attempts to modify the data, and B attempts to modify a different part of the data. A writes to the datastore, then B writes, obliterating A's changes. Then B is "rolled back" by app engine, but since rollbacks are a no-op when running on the local datastore, B's changes stay, and A's do not. Meanwhile, since B is the thread that threw the exception, the client retries B, but does not retry A (since A was supposedly the transaction that succeeded).

  • What's the scope of a Python variable declared in an if statement?

    I'm new to Python, so this is probably a simple scoping question. The following code in a Python file (module) is confusing me slightly: if __name__ == '__main__': x = 1 print x In other languages I've worked in, this code would throw an exception, as the x variable is local to the if statement and should not exist outside of it. But this code executes, and prints 1. Can anyone explain this behavior? Are all variables declared in a module global/available to the entire module?

  • Unable to get project info and source control from a particular machine

    From one particular machine, accounts are unable to get tfs project info and source control via the visual studio tfs client. The connection with the tfs server is made but the project content remains empty. Web access is possible from this machine. Note: from all other machines everything works normally, so it must be a local machine issue. What might be misconfigured on this machine? Otherwise there seem to be no problems on this XP machine.
