• libgdx draw issue and animation

• Is it reasonable to insist on reproducing every defect before diagnosing and fixing it?

  I work for a software product company. We have large enterprise customers who implement our product and we provide support to them. For example, if there is a defect, we provide patches, etc. In other words, It is a fairly typical setup. Recently, a ticket was issued and assigned to me regarding an exception that a customer found in a log file and that has to do with concurrent database access in a clustered implementation of our product. So the specific configuration of this customer may well be critical in the occurrence of this bug. All we got from the customer was their log file. The approach I proposed to my team was to attempt to reproduce the bug in a similar configuration setup as that of the customer and get a comparable log. However, they disagree with my approach saying that I should not need to reproduce the bug (as that is overly time-consuming and will require simulating a server cluster on VMs) and that I should simply "follow the code" to see where the thread- and/or transaction-unsafe code is and put the change working off of a simple local development, which is not a cluster implementation like the environment from which the occurrence of the bug originates. To me, working out of an abstract blueprint (program code) rather than a concrete, tangible, visible manifestation (runtime reproduction) seems like a difficult working environment (for a person of normal cognitive abilities and attention span), so I wanted to ask a general question: Is it reasonable to insist on reproducing every defect and debug it before diagnosing and fixing it? Or: If I am a senior developer, should I be able to read (multithreaded) code and create a mental picture of what it does in all use case scenarios rather than require to run the application, test different use case scenarios hands on, and step through the code line by line? Or am I a poor developer for demanding that kind of work environment? Is debugging for sissies? In my opinion, any fix submitted in response to an incident ticket should be tested in an environment simulated to be as close to the original environment as possible. How else can you know that it will really remedy the issue? It is like releasing a new model of a vehicle without crash testing it with a dummy to demonstrate that the air bags indeed work. Last but not least, if you agree with me: How should I talk with my team to convince them that my approach is reasonable, conservative and more bulletproof?

• Connection to Weblogic Server through ServiceMix fails

  I connect from a OSGi bundle deployed on Apache ServiceMix to a Weblogic Server to call some EJBs. The lookup happens with JNDI. In my unit test everything works fine. But when a deploy the bundle on ServiceMix a CommunicationException exception is raised on JNDI ContextFactory initialisation.   I get the following in the Error log when using the latest SoapUI 3.5. plugin in Eclipse Galileo on Ubuntu. Also, this seems to continually freeze Eclipse. I have tried a complete uninstall and restarting Eclipse with -clean argument to no avail. Has anyone encountered the same issue? Is there anything I can do to fix this?   I am developing a GMF application . In this situation , I start my workspace and load a file in the workspace . Then I close the workspace and then delete the file from the workspace . After that, I try to restart my application and restore the workspace . Of course , now since the file does not exist , there are going to be exceptions .   Whenever I put my component into COM+ and call CoCreateInstance() on the client the following happens: the runtime instantiates the objecs (calls IClassFactory::CreateInstance()) the runtime calls QueryInterface() for the interface specified in teh CoCreateInstance() call the runtime calls QueryInterface() for IdentityUnmarshal interface ({0000001b-0000-0000-c000-000000000046}) The only thing I can find is the declaration in comdef.h that there exists IdentityUnmarshal interface with that interface id. Is there any more information on it?

It was originally setup and working with postgreSQL 9.1, but I uninstalled 9.1 and installed and changed to 8.3 insure compatibility on a Heroku shared database setup.   I've read about each of these but I still don't understand how they all inter-operate, which are competing technologies, or even really what each of them is distinctly. Flash, Air, Flex... Are these all "containers"/JVM-like runtime environments, in which ActionScript code runs? SWF,FLV,AIR... Are these competing file formats which a Flash, Air or Flex runtime environment executes? ActionScript is a C-like language which compiles to SWF, FLV or AIR files? Sorry, with all the marketing around these terms, some of which are used interchangeably, I am quite lost. Suppose I wanted to write an AIR application... what would that entail? Writing ActionScript, compiling it to a SWF, and then installing the AIR runtime to execute it? How's that different than Flash? If I want to play AIR applications do I need a separate AIR runtime or does Flash execute AIR apps?

And am I correct in assuming this is the cause of my problems? We also ran a memory overload test and can trigger an OutOfMemoryException which is caught in Application_Error. We are trying to determine whether the virtual memory limit is causing the recycling. We have added GC.GetTotalMemory(false) throughout the code, but this is for all of .Net, not just our App´s pool, correct? We've also tried var oPerfCounter = new PerformanceCounter(); oPerfCounter.CategoryName = "Process"; oPerfCounter.CounterName = "Virtual Bytes"; oPerfCounter.InstanceName = "iisExpress"; logger.Debug("Virtual Bytes: " + oPerfCounter.RawValue + " bytes"); but don't have permission in shared hosting. I've monitored the app on a dev server with the same requests that caused the recycles in production with ANTS Memory Profiler attached and can't seem to find a culprit. We have also run it with a debugger attached in dev to check for uncaught exceptions in spawned threads that might cause the app to abort. My questions are these: How can I effectively monitor memory usage in shared hosting to tell how much my application is consuming prior to an application recycle? Why are the Application_[End/OnEnd/Error] handlers in global.asax not being called? How else can I determine what is causing these recycles? Thanks.

  I have a C++ code compiled with Intel compiler, 32bit, in MS VC6 mode, so using either msvcrt.dll or msvcrtd.dll. The process makes heavy memory allocation and deallocation. I monitor the memory usage with WMI and look at VirtualSize and WorkingSetSize. with debug runtime (msvcrtd.dll): virtual constant 1.7GB, working constant 1.2GB with non-debug runtime (msvcrt.dll): virtual raising 1.7-- 2.1GB, working raising 1.2-1.4GB with non-debug runtime but under debugger (windbg): virtual constant 1.7GB, working constant At 2.1 GB virtual the process is crashing (as expected). But why would the virtual usage increase only with (non-debug) msvcrt.dll and only if not under debugger? In all cases compilation flags are identical, only runtime libs are different.

• Drag and Drop to explorer causing invalid FORMATETC (DV_E_FORMATETC) error

  I'm trying to use this excellent example to implement dropping virtual files into Windows Explorer. However, I'm stymied by this error. Towards the bottom, inside void System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComTypes.IDataObject.GetData(ref System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComTypes.FORMATETC formatetc, out System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComTypes.STGMEDIUM medium) on the first call to ((System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComTypes.IDataObject)this).GetDataHere(ref formatetc, ref medium); I'm getting back a DV_E_FORMATETC error. As far as I can tell, all the elements of the FORMATETC struct that are being passed in are valid: cfFormat is "Shell IDList Array" (-16141), ptd is 0, dwAspect is DVASPECT_CONTENT, lindex is -1, and tymed is TYMED_HGLOBAL. I'm kind of confused how there'd be a problem anyway, since this was generated by explorer. I know very little about COM interaction, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The idea is this: If a User has Excel Open, if he has the file I'm interested in open... get that Excel instance and do whatever I want to do... But I don't to close his File after I'm done... I want him to keep working on it, the problem is that when he closes Excel... The process keeps running... and running... and running after the user closes Excel with the X button... this is how I try to do it This piece is used to know if he has Excel open, and in the For I check for the file name I'm interested in.
