• Implementing a plugin interface

- by James P.
What's a good way of adding a plugin interface such that it's possible to have optional components? I'm aware of the Class.forName() approach (used with JDBC for example) but there is also dynamic class loading.

• getHeaderField("WWW-Authenticate") giving improper value in J2ME

- by kehers
I'm building a client for an api that uses http digest access authentication for authentication. I have studied the rfc to know the setup the required response headers and this works well on my emulator. Problem however is when I test on my phone (nokia E5), I found out that getting the www-authenticate header from the returned headers doesnt get the full value
// c = (HttpConnection) Connector.open(url) and other declarations String digest = c.getHeaderField("WWW-Authenticate"); System.out.println(digest); // gives only: Digest //no realm, qop and others
I'm I doing something wrong or it is from the phone? What are my other options?

• How do I compare a string in an array to a string?

- by user1641312
EDIT: IT'S FIXED, THANKS FOR THE HELP! So basically I have an array of strings, a question and an answer public static String[][] triviaData = { {"Question2", "Answer1"}, {"Question2", "Answer2"}, {"Question3", "Answer3"}, }; And I am trying to make a method that validates an entered input, lets call the entered input enteredAnswer. enteredAnswer is stored as a String. I am trying to validate that the enteredAnswer is the same as the second index of the array. if (enteredAnswer.equalsIgnoreCase(triviaData[Config.CurrentQuestion][1])) { This is the code I tried, but I get the error "Cannot invoke equalsIgnoreCase(String) on the array type String[]" I am a beginner programmer so if you could help me out it would be highly appreciated. Thanks. enteredAnswer is stored as public String[] enteredAnswer;

• Non-empty list with null elements returned from Hibernate query

- by John
Hi, I'm new to hibernate so not sure if this is an expected behaviour, anyway: Session session = (Session)entityManager.getDelegate(); Criteria criteria = session.createCriteria(myRequest.class); criteria.add(Restrictions.eq("username", username)); criteria.setProjection(Projections.max("accesscount")); List<myRequest> results = criteria.list(); The returned results is a non-empty list with a single null element. I can't think of any reason why it should behave this way, any idea if this is the expected behaviour or have I done something wrong? System is on hibernate/Syabse. Thanks.

• Hibernate and mssql inner join rowcount

- by ez2sarang
I am struggling with Hibernate Criteria. My aim is to create the following request using Hibernate Criteria : select count(*) as y0_ from PInterface this_ inner join Product product2_ on this_.product_id=product2_.id where this_.product_interface_type_id=? Here is my code: @Entity @Table(name = "PInterface") public class PInterface { @Id @GeneratedValue @Column(name = "id", nullable = false, insertable = false, updatable = false) private int id; @Column(name = "product_id") private int productId; @Column(name = "product_interface_type_id") private int type; @ManyToOne(optional=false) @JoinColumn(name = "product_id", referencedColumnName = "id", insertable=false, updatable=false) private Product product; } @Entity @Table(name = "Product") public class Product { @Id @GeneratedValue @Column(name = "id", nullable = false, insertable = false, updatable = false) private int id; private String name; } //Criteria is : Object criteria = sessionFactory.getCurrentSession() .createCriteria(PInterface.class) .add(Restrictions.eq("type", 1)) .setProjection(Projections.rowCount()) .uniqueResult() ; However, the results ... select count(*) as y0_ from PInterface this_ where this_.product_interface_type_id=? Where Inner join? Thank you for help!

• What are the scenarios in which case a new class will be loaded?

- by GK
That is when you have any jar file attached to you your class path. then as far as i know any class from the jar is loaded for the first time when, when you create any object of that type. or If you are accessing any static member or method of that class. or when you load that by using Class.forName() method. So are there any other ways of loading a class for the first time?

• Finding an odd perfect number

- by Coin Bird
I wrote these two methods to determine if a number is perfect. My prof wants me to combine them to find out if there is an odd perfect number. I know there isn't one(that is known), but I need to actually write the code to prove that. The issue is with my main method. I tested the two test methods. I tried debugging and it gets stuck on the number 5, though I can't figure out why. Here is my code: public class Lab6 { public static void main (String[]args) { int testNum = 3; while (testNum != sum_of_divisors(testNum) && testNum%2 != 0) testNum++; } public static int sum_of_divisors(int numDiv) { int count = 1; int totalDivisors = 0; while (count < numDiv) if (numDiv%count == 0) { totalDivisors = totalDivisors + count; count++; } else count++; return totalDivisors; } public static boolean is_perfect(int numPerfect) { int count = 1; int totalPerfect = 0; while (totalPerfect < numPerfect) { totalPerfect = totalPerfect + count; count++; } if (numPerfect == totalPerfect) return true; else return false; } }

• starting index from 1 not from 0

- by M.H
My question is simple (I think it is silly too) ,how can I start the index in an ArrayList from 1 instead of 0 ? is this possible directly (I mean is there a code for this ) ?. Actually a friend asked me this question today, first I thought that it is a silly question but after a while I thought if there is a direct way to do that and decided to ask it to you (maybe you have some brilliant ideas :) )

• Quickest and most efficient method to search top 3 numbers?

- by Donal Rafferty
I currently have an array of around 8 - 10 numbers that changes on a periodic basis. So around every 5 - 10 seconds the numbers get updated. I need to get the top 3 numbers in the array every 10 seconds. This is all done on a mobile device. At the minute I iterate through the array 3 times and each time I take out the three highest numbers and place them in three previously declared variables. My question is what should I look to do to increase speed and efficiency in this instance?
