  • Are hashCodes unique for Strings?

    - by Batty
    Recently, I came across a piece of code, where Map<Integer, String> is used, where Integer(key) is hashCode of some string and String value corresponding to that. Is this right thing to do? Because now, equals will not be called for the String when calling get. (get is also done using hashCode() method on String object. Or, hashCode(s) are unique for unique Strings? I checked equals od String class. There is logic written for that. I am confused.

  • What exactly is GRASP's Controller about?

    - by devoured elysium
    What is the idea behind Grasp's Controller pattern? My current interpretation is that sometimes you want to achieve something that needs to use a couple of classes but none of those classes could or has access to the information needed to do it, so you create a new class that does the job, having references to all the needed classes(this is, could be the information expert). Is this a correct view of what Grasp's Controller is about? Generally when googling or SO'ing controller, I just get results about MVC's (and whatnot) which are topics that I don't understand about, so I'd like answers that don't assume I know ASP.NET's MVC or something :( Thanks

  • Should my DAOs (Database Entities) Directly match my UI Objects?

    - by scarpacci
    I am trying to figure out best practice for N-Tier application design. When designing the objects my UI needs and those that will be persisted in the DB some of my colleagues are suggesting that the objects be one in the same. This doesn't not feel right to me and I am ultimately looking for some best practice documentation to help me in this decision. I honestly do not understand why I would want to design this way given that other applications may want to interact with my Data Access Layer....or it is just ignorance or lack of understanding on my part. Any documentation, information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Just want to better understand these concepts and I am having a hard time finding some good information on the best practice for implementing these patterns (Or it is right in front of me on what I found and I didn't understand what was being outlined). Thanks, S

  • How to create a datastore.Text object out of an array of dynamically created Strings?

    - by Adrogans
    I am creating a Google App Engine server for a project where I receive a large quantity of data via an HTTP POST request. The data is separated into lines, with 200 characters per line. The number of lines can go into the hundreds, so 10's of thousands of characters total. What I want to do is concatenate all of those lines into a single Text object, since Strings have a maximum length of 500 characters but the Text object can be as large as 1MB. Here is what I thought of so far: public void doPost(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp) { ... String[] audioSampleData = new String[numberOfLines]; for (int i = 0; i < numberOfLines; i++) { audioSampleData[i] = req.getReader().readLine(); } com.google.appengine.api.datastore.Text textAudioSampleData = new Text(audioSampleData[0] + audioSampleData[1] + ...); ... } But as you can see, I don't know how to do this without knowing the number of lines before-hand. Is there a way for me to iterate through the String indexes within the Text constructor? I can't seem to find anything on that. Of note is that the Text object can't be modified after being created, and it must have a String as parameter for the constructor. (Documentation here) Is there any way to this? I need all of the data in the String array in one Text object. Many Thanks!

  • hibernate.properties classpath conflict

    - by Adam B
    I have a jar on the classpath which contains a hibernate.properties. This causes problems when my app starts because hibernate tries to use the settings from this file. Is there a way to explicitly specify the file that hibernate should look for, or tell it to ignore the properties file in the dependency jar?

  • Call OnDraw in another method, then "refresh" that call in ANOTHER method.

    - by Aidan
    Hey guys, Hopefully this will actually make sense and sorry if its a stupid / obvious question. Basically I'm calling the onDraw method like so... requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE); Preview mPreview = new Preview(this); DrawOnTop mDraw = new DrawOnTop(this); setContentView(mPreview); addContentView(mDraw, new LayoutParams (LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT)); You see I'm drawing it on top of a Camera view and the information being drawn is subject to change. I have a listener setup which will update the variables being drawn at the appropriate time but I now want to "refresh" this draw in that listener. How would I do such a thing?

  • Add list type to association

    - by teucer
    Hi All, I am using the eUML2 (Free version) plugin to draw a UML class diagram. Now, let's assume I have a class Person and a class Car. I want the class Person to have a member cars which is a List<Car>, i.e. private List<Car> cars = null. My question is how do I include this information in the class diagram? To be more precise, how do I include the type information for the List in the eUML2 association? Regards

  • Why is this removing all elements from my LinkedList?

    - by Brian
    Why is my remove method removing every element from my Doubly Linked List? If I take out that if/else statements then I can successfully remove middle elements, but elements at the head or tail of the list still remain. However, I added the if/else statements to take care of elements at the head and tail, unfortunately this method now removes every element in my list. What am I do wrong? public void remove(int n) { LinkEntry<E> remove_this = new LinkEntry<E>(); //if nothing comes before remove_this, set the head to equal the element after remove_this if (remove_this.previous == null) head = remove_this.next; //otherwise set the element before remove_this equal to the element after remove_this else remove_this.previous.next = remove_this.next; //if nothing comes after remove_this, set the tail equal to the element before remove_this if (remove_this.next == null) tail = remove_this.previous; //otherwise set the next element's previous pointer to the element before remove_this else remove_this.next.previous = remove_this.previous; //if remove_this is located in the middle of the list, enter this loop until it is //found, then remove it, closing the gap afterwards. int i = 0; for (remove_this = head; remove_this != null; remove_this = remove_this.next) { //if i == n, stop and delete 'remove_this' from the list if (i == n) { //set the previous element's next to the element that comes after remove_this remove_this.previous.next = remove_this.next; //set the element after remove_this' previous pointer to the element before remove_this remove_this.next.previous = remove_this.previous; break; } //if i != n, keep iterating through the list i++; } }

  • Need help to solve sharedPreference probem

    - by HFherasen
    I am working on this app where I have one EditText field where you can write somthing and then it get saved and added to a list(TextView). I save the content of the EditText in this way : saved += "*" + editTextFelt.getText().toString() + ". \n"; saved is a String. Everything works fine, I can even reload the app and it's still displayed in the TextView, but if i try to write somthing and save it everything that was there, now dissapear. anyone know why ? It's kind of confusing, and I have to get it to work! Thank's!! CODE: init Mehtod() sp = getSharedPreferences(fileName, 0); betaView = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.betaTextView); Ive got a button to send the text, and this is like: p ublic void onClick(View v) { switch(v.getId()){ case R.id.btnSend: saved += "*" + editTextFelt.getText().toString() + ". \n"; SharedPreferences.Editor editor = sp.edit(); editor.putString("SAVED", saved); editor.commit(); betaView.setText(sp.getString("SAVED", "Empty"));

  • Reference and Value confusion

    - by rgamber
    Hi I read this question on Stack overflow, and tried to do an example. I had the below code: public static void main(String[] args){ int i = 5; Integer I = new Integer(5); increasePrimitive(i); increaseObject(I); System.out.println(i); //Prints 5 - correct System.out.println(I); //Still prints 5 System.out.println(increaseObject2(I)); //Still prints 5 } public static void increasePrimitive(int n){ n++; } public static void increaseObject(Integer n){ n++; } public static int increaseObject2(Integer n){ return n++; } Does the increaseObject print 5 because the value of reference is changing inside that function? Am I right? I am confused why the increasedObject2 prints 5 and not 6. Can anyone please explain?

  • which loop is faster?

    - by Mansuro
    I have this loop for (it= someCollection.iterator; it.hasNext(); ) { //some code here } I changed it to: for (it= someCollection.iterator;; ) { if (!it.hasNext()) break; //some code here } The second code ran a little bit faster in unit tests in junit on eclipse. Is the second loop faster? I'm asking because the times given by Junit are not too exact, but they give an approximate value

  • question on reverse array

    - by davit-datuashvili
    we know algorithm how reverse array of n integers for (int i=0;i<n/2;i++){ swap(a[i],a[n-1-i]): } is this method better according the speed of algorithm or not because swap using xor is more fast then in other method here is code public class swap { public static void main(String[]args){ int a[]=new int[]{2,4,5,7,8,11,13,12,14,24}; System.out.println(" array at the begining:"); for (int i=0;i<a.length;i++){ System.out.println(a[i]); } for (int j=0;j<a.length/2;j++){ a[j]^=a[a.length-1-j]; a[a.length-1-j]^=a[j]; a[j]^=a[a.length-1-j]; } System.out.println("reversed array:"); for (int j=0;j<a.length;j++){ System.out.println(a[j]); } } } Result: array at the begining: 2 4 5 7 8 11 13 12 14 24 reversed array: 24 14 12 13 11 8 7 5 4 2

  • One log4j.xml - many scripts

    - by psed
    One of my utility jar files is used by different nix scripts, located in different categories. Problem: unable to initialize log4j framework (unable to find log4j.xml). Solution, that allows to configure logger correctly while launching jar classes by different scripts - usage of env vars and force configuring using DOMConfigurtor.configure(pathToConfXml) method. is it possible to avoid path hardcoding and configure logger inside of a script? Appreciate all your help. Thanks.

  • Renaming the argument name in JAX-WS

    - by user182944
    I created a web service using JAX-WS in RSA 7.5 and Websphere 7 using bottom-up approach. When I open the WSDL in SOAP UI, then the arguments section is appearing like this: <!--Optional--> <arg0> <empID>?</empId> </arg0> <!--Optional--> <arg1> <empName>?</empName> </arg1> <!--Optional--> <arg2> <empAddress>?</empAddress> </arg2> <!--Optional--> <arg3> <empCountry>?</empCountry> </arg3> The service method takes the above 4 elements as the parameters to return the employee details. 1) I want to rename this arg0, arg1, and so on with some valid names. 2) I want to remove the <!--optional--> present above the arg tags. (For removing the <!--optional--> from elements name, I used @XMLElement(required=true)). But I am not sure where exactly to use this annotation in this case :( Please help. Regards,
