• Sqlite3 Database versus populating Arrays

  hi, I am working on a program that requires me to input values for 12 objects, each with 4 arrays, each with 100 values. (4800) values. The 4 arrays represent possible outcomes based on 2 boolean values... i.e. YY, YN, NN, NY and the 100 values to the array are what I want to extract based on another inputted variable. I previously have all possible outcomes in a csv file, and have imported these into sqlite where I can query then for the value using sql. However, It has been suggested to me that sqlite database is not the way to go, and instead I should populate using arrays hardcoded. Which would be better during run time and for memory management?

  Hello: I am trying to connect to a MySQL database server (remote), but I can't. I am using an user with grant privileges (not root user). The error message is the following: Can't obtain database list from the server. Access denied for user 'myuser'@'mypcname' (using password: YES) "myuser" is an user I created with grant access. This user allows me to connect locally to every database. I am using the same software versions in both hosts: MySQL Server 4.1 (server) and EMS SQL Manager 2005 for MySQL, edition 3.7.0.1 (client). The point is that I need to connect to the remote server using a different user, not root user. So, how to make the connection? Thanks.

• Rails migrations: Undo default setting for a column

  Hi Stack Overflow Community! I have the problem, that I have an migration in Rails that sets up a default setting for a column, like this example: def self.up add_column :column_name, :bought_at, :datetime, :default => Time.now end Suppose, I like to drop that default settings in a later migration, how do I do that with using rails migrations? My current workaround is the execution of a custom sql command in the rails migration, like this: def self.up execute 'alter table column_name alter bought_at drop default' end But I don't like this approach, because I am now dependent on how the underlying database is interpreting this command. In case of a change of the database this query perhaps might not work anymore and the migration would be broken. So, is there a way to express the undo of a default setting for a column in rails? My report needs two tables 1 one gives detailed view.(dataset 1) 2 one below that gives a summary table (data should come from the calculations based on the data in 1 table) I am using a temporary table for the dataset one. What are the methods to get calculated result for dataset 2. I wrote 2 procedures for each. since first table is a temporary one i am not getting result for second dataset. Wht can be the options. • How come, diffrent text files become diffrent sizes after compression ?

  I have file of some random text size = 27 gb and after compression it becomes 40 mb or so. And a 3.5 GB sql file become 45 Mb after compression. But a 109 mb text file become 72 mb after compression so what can be wrong with it. Why so less compressed, it must 10 mb or so , or i am missing something . All files as i can see is English text only and and some grammar symbols (/ , . - = + etc) Can you tell why ? If not can you tell how can i super compress a text file ? I can code in PHP , np in that.

• Bound a treeview control to user-defined complex type using EF 4

  Hi, I use Asp.net, SQL 2008 and EF 4. I need display hierarchy data in a treeview control, Data is stored in a DB that use HierarchyId. Unfortunately, EF4 doesn't support HierarchyId. So in this case, I thought to have a stored procedure that deals with my hierarchy and return a result set back to EF that EF4 can turn into a collection of user-defined complex type that can then be bound directly to the treeview control. I imported a SPROC in EF 4 using Import Function and now I have a Complex DataType called: CategoryHierarchy_Result An image of my Model: Here some data from the Complex Type (in a GridView for example GridView1.DataSource = context.CategoryHierarchy(1);): My questions is: How to display my data from my Complex Type in a TreeView Control, showing a Tree structure that respect CategoryNodeString? • I need to generate credit card surrogates (tokens) that are format preserving.

  For an eCommerce application I need to take a credit card and use the real card for passing through to a payment gateway but I need to store, and return to the transaction initiator, a surrogate that is format preserving. Specifically, this means: 1) The number of digits in the surrogate is the same as the real card number (PAN). 2) The issuer type part of the card -- the initial 1,2 or 4 digits remains the same in the surrogate as in the original PAN. 3) The final 4 digits of the surrogate remain the same (for customer service purposes.) 4) The surrogate passes the Luhn mod10 check for a syntactially valid credit card. I can readily handle requirements 1-3 but #4 has me completely stumped! The final implementation will be either t-sql or c#. Any ideas?

  I have 3 models sites, user_favorites and users. Relevant relationships: class Site < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :users, :through => :user_favorites class UserFavorite < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user, :counter_cache => true belongs_to :site end class User < ActiveRecord:Base has_many :user_favorites has_many :sites, :through => :user_favorites All of that works just fine. I'd like to add a new attribute to the Site model to indicate which user created it. I don't believe this constitutes a has_and_belongs_to_many scenario. A site has many users through user_favorites but I want it to belong to a single user reflecting the owner/creator. I'm wondering what the ORM best practice is for this. SQL wise I'd just use different joins depending on what I was trying to query with a created_by FK in Site. Sorry if I'm missing something basic here. Thanks

• NHibernate - get List<long> representing primary keys?

  I have a situation where I definitely don't want to get the whole domain object. Basically, the entity has a primary key of long (.NET)/bigint(sql server 2005). I simply need to pass the primary key to an external system which will access the database directly - and since the list of ids could be large, I don't want to rehydrate the entire domain object just to get the Id. In linq2sql, I could accomplish this with a projection, but I am restricted to NHibernate 1.2.1.4000, which doesn't support Linq. Is there a way to accomplish this using NHibernate 1.2.1.4000? (I am open to using a named-query if that will work)

This is somewhat achievable using the SQLCriterion expression Expression.Sql("? like {alias}.[Property] + '.%'", value, NHibernateUtil.String); However, in the case of class inheritance, {alias} is replaced with the incorrect alias for the column. Example (these classes are stored in separate tables): public abstract class Parent { public virtual string Property { get; set; } } public class Child : Parent { } The above query executed with Child as the root type will replace {alias} with the alias to the Child table rather than the Parent table. This results in an invalid column exception. I need to execute a like statement as above where the property exists on the parent table rather than on the root type table.

  I'm querying an underlying PostgreSQL database using Pandas 0.8. Pandas is returning the DataFrame properly but the underlying timestamp column in my database is being returned as a generic "object" type in Pandas. As I would eventually like to seasonal normalization of my data I am curious as to how to convert this generic "object" column to something that is appropriate for analysis. • Are there any web application frameworks usable with .NET 2.0?

  Apologies if this has been asked many, many times before - I'm afraid I couldn't find any satisfactory answers. I'm stuck in an environment (a bank) where, although we have VS 2008 on the development machines, production machines are locked down to the .Net framework 2.0 and SQL Server 2005. Are there any modern application frameworks that I could employ? I've looked at things like Spring.NET, PureMVC and ASP.NET MVC (S#arp Arch?), but I don't really have the luxury of time to investigate in depth. I don't want to initiate a war over which framework might be best, I just want to know if there are any I can actually use.

  A lot of companies use CMS software that updates on the regular, often they are security fixes, implying that the previous version have security vulnerabilities. But most clients never upgrade this, or even the CMS has been modified so that an update would break the site. Are there sites that document these exploits, and instruct how to test for them? Or does this information not even get published? (in order not to have people try to exploit them) Also is there a generic php/js based check list to prevent hack attempts? • What database is a good progression from MS Access for Coldfusion?

  All my (home) CF learning has so far been done using Access as a database, and as far as the DB goes I "get it". There's no database server, and no need to log on to the database or anything, and setting up table relationships is easy and visual. Oh and its essentially free to deploy. However, I'm now working on an application that's likely to be used across several businesses and probably up to 50 concurrent users. I've heard that Access really isn't up to multi user use or production use on an app. What would you recommend as more suitable, preferably easy to grasp, with minimal tweeking needed for my SQL (I used a tool to convert to MySQL and it certainly handles concatenation differently, I dont want to have to do too much debugging), visual interface available, scalable, backupable, and whatever else I need that I don't yet know I need!

AND c = ?"; $params = array('bee', 'see'); Here I would like to replace the instances of ? with the corresponding ordered array elements, as so: SELECT * FROM a WHERE b = 'bee' and c = 'see' I see that this might be done using preg_replace_callback, but is this the fastest way or am I missing something obvious?

  Php/my sql newbie question. I have a database I've imported into my local phpmyadmin. However it seems I can't access it from my a php application. The connection string seems right and when i try to authenticate user credentials to access database information, no problems. However authenticate everyone and knows when i put in fake credentials. Still it won't pull any other information from the database. For instance, once a users login they should see something like, "Hello username"... that kind of thing. At this point I see "Hello" without the username. Any ideas what i might be missing?

• Kohana v3, escape illegal characters?

  Quick question, does Kohana (version 3) automatically escape data that is passed into ORM::factory..... (and everywhere else that has to do with the database)? For example: $thread = ORM::factory('thread', $this->request->param('id')); Would the data passed in the second argument be auto-escaped before it goes in the SQL query or do I have to manually do it? Probably a stupid question and it's better to be safe than sorry, but yeah... I usually do manually escape the data, but I want to know if Kohana does this for me? Thanks

• Why does SQLite not bring back any results from my database

• MySQL Conventions?

  Hi There, I just moved my website to a new server (Shared to VPS) I expected errors, and the only error that is really puzzling me is this SQL statement. echo mysql_query("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users_online_now") This returns nothing! And if I try the mysql_num_rows, it returns mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource.. If I query another table though eg: echo mysql_query("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users") It works fine. I'm guessing it's something to do with the naming of the table? It worked fine on my previous host, is there some setting I should modify?
