  • Nested/Child TransactionScope Rollback

    - by Robert Wagner
I am trying to nest TransactionScopes (.net 4.0) as you would nest Transactions in SQL Server, however it looks like they operate differently. I want my child transactions to be able to rollback if they fail, but allow the parent transaction to decide whether to commit/rollback the whole operation. A greatly simplified example of what I am trying to do: static void Main(string[] args) { using(var scope = new TransactionScope()) // Trn A { // Insert Data A DoWork(true); DoWork(false); // Rollback or Commit } } // This class is a few layers down static void DoWork(bool fail) { using(var scope = new TransactionScope()) // Trn B { // Update Data A if(!fail) { scope.Complete(); } } } I can't use the Suppress or RequiresNew options as Trn B relies on data inserted by Trn A. If I do use those options, Trn B is blocked by Trn A. Any ideas how I would get it to work, or if it is even possible using the System.Transactions namespace? Thanks

  • Delphi Pascal - Using SetFilePointerEx and GetFileSizeEx, Getting Physical Media exact size when reading as a file

    - by SuicideClutchX2
    I am having trouble understanding how to delcare GetFileSizeEx and SetFilePointerEx in Delphi 2009 so that I can use them since they are not in the RTL or Windows.pas. I was able to compile with the following: function GetFileSizeEx(hFile: THandle; lpFileSizeHigh: Pointer): DWORD; external 'kernel32'; Then using GetFileSizeEx(PD, Pointer(DriveSize)); to get the size. But could not get it to work, the disk handle I am using is valid and I have had no problem reading the data or working under the 2gb mark with the older API's. GetFileSize of course returns 4294967295. I have had greater trouble trying to use SetFilePointerEx with the data types it uses. The overall project needs to read the data from a flash card, which is not a problem at all I can do this. My problem is that I can not find the length or size of the media I will be reading. I have code I have used in the past to do this with media under 2GB. But now that I need to read media over 2GB it is a problem. If you still dont understand I am dumping a card with all data including the boot record, etc. This is the code I would normally use to read from the physical disk to grab say the boot record and dump it to file: SetFilePointer(PD,0,nil,FILE_BEGIN); SetLength(Buffer,512); ReadFile(PD,Buffer[0],512,BytesReturned,nil); I just need to figure out how to find the end of an 8gb card and so on as well as being able to set a file pointer beyond the 2gb barrier. I guess any help in the external declarations as well as understand the values that SetFilePointerEx uses (I do not understand the whole High Low thing) would be of great help. var Form1: TForm1; function GetFileSizeEx(hFile: THandle; var FileSize: Int64): DWORD; stdcall; external 'kernel32'; implementation {$R *.dfm} function GetLD(Drive: Char): Cardinal; var Buffer : String; begin Buffer := Format('\\.\%s:',[Drive]); Result := CreateFile(PChar(Buffer),GENERIC_READ Or GENERIC_WRITE,FILE_SHARE_READ,nil,OPEN_EXISTING,0,0); If Result = INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE Then begin Result := CreateFile(PChar(Buffer),GENERIC_READ,FILE_SHARE_READ,nil,OPEN_EXISTING,0,0); end; end; function GetPD(Drive: Byte): Cardinal; var Buffer : String; begin If Drive = 0 Then begin Result := INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE; Exit; end; Buffer := Format('\\.\PHYSICALDRIVE%d',[Drive]); Result := CreateFile(PChar(Buffer),GENERIC_READ Or GENERIC_WRITE,FILE_SHARE_READ,nil,OPEN_EXISTING,0,0); If Result = INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE Then begin Result := CreateFile(PChar(Buffer),GENERIC_READ,FILE_SHARE_READ,nil,OPEN_EXISTING,0,0); end; end; function GetPhysicalDiskNumber(Drive: Char): Byte; var LD : DWORD; DiskExtents : PVolumeDiskExtents; DiskExtent : TDiskExtent; BytesReturned : Cardinal; begin Result := 0; LD := GetLD(Drive); If LD = INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE Then Exit; Try DiskExtents := AllocMem(Max_Path); DeviceIOControl(LD,IOCTL_VOLUME_GET_VOLUME_DISK_EXTENTS,nil,0,DiskExtents,Max_Path,BytesReturned,nil); If DiskExtents^.NumberOfDiskExtents > 0 Then begin DiskExtent := DiskExtents^.Extents[0]; Result := DiskExtent.DiskNumber; end; Finally CloseHandle(LD); end; end; procedure TForm1.Button1Click(Sender: TObject); var PD : DWORD; BytesReturned : Cardinal; Buffer : Array Of Byte; myFile: File; DriveSize: Int64; begin PD := GetPD(GetPhysicalDiskNumber(Edit1.Text[1])); If PD = INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE Then Exit; Try GetFileSizeEx(PD, DriveSize); //SetFilePointer(PD,0,nil,FILE_BEGIN); //etLength(Buffer,512); //ZeroMemory(@Buffer,SizeOf(Buffer)); //ReadFile(PD,Buffer[0],512,BytesReturned,nil); //AssignFile(myFile, 'StickDump.bin'); //ReWrite(myFile, 512); //BlockWrite(myFile, Buffer[0], 1); //CloseFile(myFile); Finally CloseHandle(PD); End; end;

  • Was Joel right about XML being slow?

    - by Will
A long time ago Joel explained how various every-day coding things were slow, and this led to XML as a data store being slow: http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/fog0000000319.html Are those every-day coding things - strcat and malloc - still slow in a std::string and dlmalloc world? What else has changed in modern processors and mainstream frameworks? And is XML still slow? You can't find an RDBMS that doesn't claim some kind of native XML support these days; haven't they got it faster - a single pass to index it for example - yet?

  • From actionscript to google's datastore through java.

    - by Jonathan
I'm working on a flash game written in pure actionscript 3.0 in Flex. I've just finished implementing replays for the game, but want to store the top 10 hiscores' replay data on my google-app-engine'd website. I'm using Java for the app-engine stuff in Eclipse in java but I have no idea how to deal with communicating to my java code from my actionscript code. I'll need to both read and write from actionscript - java - datastore. Does anyone have any experience with this? For note, I'm horribly noob with anything to do with web development. I hear you can pass arguments to a URL when calling it, comparable to command-line arguments on a desktop executable and if so then sending all the data as a large string would be doable... The question then would be how to call a url from AS3 code with additional data and then how to catch that on the java side. Thanks to anyone who can help. Jono

  • IIS7 Integrated Pipeline - Response.End not ending the request.

    - by MikeGurtzweiler
I have the following bit of code that worked as expected before we upgraded to Integrated Pipeline in IIS7. public void RedirectPermanently(string url, bool clearCookies) { Response.ClearContent(); Response.StatusCode = 301; Response.AppendHeader("Location", url); if(clearCookies) { Response.Cookies.Clear(); Response.Flush(); Response.End(); } } Previously when this method was executed, if clearCookies was true, the response would be sent to the client and request processing would end. Now under Integrated Pipeline Response.End() does not seem to end processing. The page continues running as if the method was never called. Big question is, why and what changed! Thanks.

  • WPF: Modifying CollectionView from Dispatcher still throws errors

    - by Dusda
    I have the following bit of code that modifies an observable collection of 'screens' whenever a user leaves. void OnUserLeft(int roomId, int userId, string username) { client.ClientDispatcher.Invoke( (Action<int>)((id) => { Console.WriteLine("Hello before the storm!"); var screensToCheck = client.Screens.Where(s => s.CpuId == id).ToList(); screensToCheck.Each(s => client.Screens.Remove(s)); Console.WriteLine("Hello there!"); }), userId); } This is wrapped in a call to the client's Dispatcher, supposedly to get past the threading issues related to CollectionViews. However, I still get the following exception: This type of CollectionView does not support changes to its SourceCollection from a thread different from the Dispatcher thread. The Dispatcher you see above is set in the WPF application's MainViewModel (we're using MVVM), like so: public Dispatcher ClientDispatcher { get { return Dispatcher.CurrentDispatcher; } }

  • Rails - MS-SQL Server problems (unixODBC, FreeTDS) on Mac 10.6

    - by TMB
Followed the instructions on the Rails wiki and have had success connecting to SQL Server 2000 with TSQL -- both with DSN-less and DNS connections. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.3. Wiki instructions here. Installed ruby-odbc, dbi (0.4.0), dbd-odbc (2.4.5), activerecord-sqlserver-adapter (2.3.5). In my database.yml (Rails 2.3.6): development: adapter: sqlserver mode: ODBC dsn: 'DRIVER=/usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so;TDS_Version=8.0;SERVER=mssql01.discountasp.net;DATABASE=DB_164368_dmusd;Port=1433;uid=DB_164368_dmusd_user;pwd=Schools77;' This yields the following error: ODBC::Error: S1090 (0) [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Invalid string or buffer length When I attempt to use a DSN connection, I get the following error: ODBC::Error: IM002 (0) [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified I have in fact verified that the FreeTDS driver (libtdsodbc.so) is installed and the path correct. Can anyone spot the error of my ways? Thanks in advance.

  • How to structure VB.NET windows forms applications

    - by Jon
What is the best way to structure a VB.NET windows forms application so that code can be reused and the app can be extended easily. I used to create lots of new forms. This lead to lots of repeated code and forms which did similar things. Now, for forms which do similar jobs, such as view/edit/delete items from a specific db table, I create a form with the required controls, have the form create an instance of a class with params such as a collection of the controls and a string containing the db table name. Then the individual controls call functions of the class. Advanced forms will inherit and extend this basic form class. 1) Has there already been work done in this area? 2) Are there books / articles available which discuss the options available on this topic? Thanks!

  • Relative Path To Absolute Path in VB .NET

Hi, I am writing a VB .NET console app where it spits takes relative path and spits out all file name, or error for invalid input. I am havinf trouble getting PhysicalPath from RelativePath Example: ` 1. I am in folder: C:\Documents and Settings\MehdiAnis.ULTIMATEBANGLA\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\SP_Sol\SP_Proj\bin\Debug My App SP.exe is also in the same folder I run: "SP.exe ..\" OutPut will be a list of all files in the folder of "C:\Documents and Settings\MehdiAnis.ULTIMATEBANGLA\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\SP_Sol\SP_Proj\bin" I run: "SP.exe ..\..\" OutPut will be a list of all files in the folder of "C:\Documents and Settings\MehdiAnis.ULTIMATEBANGLA\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\SP_Sol\SP_Proj" I run: "SP.exe ..\..\..\" OutPut will be a list of all files in the folder of "C:\Documents and Settings\MehdiAnis.ULTIMATEBANGLA\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\SP_Sol" ` Currently I am Handling 1 relative path, but not more than one: If Source.IndexOf("..\") = 0 Then Dim Sibling As String = Directory.GetParent(Directory.GetCurrentDirectory()).ToString()()) Source = Source.Replace("..\", Sibling) End If How can I easily handle multiple ..\ easily ? • PLINQ delayed execution

    - by tbischel
I'm trying to understand how parallelism might work using PLINQ, given delayed execution. Here is a simple example. string[] words = { "believe", "receipt", "relief", "field" }; bool result = words.AsParallel().Any(w => w.Contains("ei")); With LINQ, I would expect the execution to reach the "receipt" value and return true, without executing the query for rest of the values. If we do this in parallel, the evaluation of "relief" may have began before the result of "receipt" has returned. But once the query knows that "receipt" will cause a true result, will the other threads yield immediately? In my case, this is important because the "any" test may be very expensive, and I would want to free up the processors for execution of other tasks.

  • Self referencing symmetrical Hibernate Map Table using @ManyToMany

    - by sammichy
I have the following class public class ElementBean { private String link; private Set<ElementBean> connections; } I need to create a map table where elements are mapped to each other in a many-to-many symmetrical relationship. @ManyToMany(targetEntity=ElementBean.class) @JoinTable( name="element_elements", joinColumns=@JoinColumn(name="FROM_ELEMENT_ID", nullable=false), inverseJoinColumns=@JoinColumn(name="TO_ELEMENT_ID", nullable=false) ) public Set<ElementBean> getConnections() { return connections; } I have the following requirements When element A is added as a connection to Element B, then element B should become a connection of Element A. So A.getConnections() should return B and B.getConnections() should return A. I do not want to explicitly create 2 records one for mapping A to B and another for B to A. Is this possible?

  • Delphi: problem with httpcli (ICS) post method

It says: procedure TForm4.Button2Click(Sender: TObject); var Data : String; begin Data:='status=no'; HttpCli1.SendStream := TMemoryStream.Create; HttpCli1.SendStream.Write(Data[1], Length(Data)); HttpCli1.SendStream.Seek(0, 0); HttpCli1.RcvdStream := TMemoryStream.Create; HttpCli1.URL := Trim('http://server/something'); HttpCli1.PostAsync; end; But it fact, it sends not status=no but s.t.a.t.u I can't understand, where is the problem. Maybe someone can show an example, how to send POST request with the help of HttpCli component? PS I can't use Indy =)

  • Cannot bind text field to selected item in JTable in NetBeans

    - by titaniumdecoy
I am trying to use NetBeans to bind a JTextField to the selected element of a JTable. The JTable gets its data from an AbstractTableModel subclass which returns Cow objects. At present, each Cow object is displayed as a string through its toString method. The binding seems obvious but does not work; the bound value of the text field is always null. I bound the text property of the JTextField in NetBeans to: flowTable[${selectedElement.prefix}] This produces the following line of generated code: org.jdesktop.beansbinding.Binding binding = org.jdesktop.beansbinding.Bindings.createAutoBinding( org.jdesktop.beansbinding.AutoBinding.UpdateStrategy.READ_WRITE, flowTable, org.jdesktop.beansbinding.ELProperty.create("${selectedElement.prefix}"), courseNameTextField, org.jdesktop.beansbinding.BeanProperty.create("text")); What am I doing wrong?

  • Mapping Enums to Database with NHibernate/Castle ActiveRecord

    - by Mike
There's a few other posts on mapping Enums to the DB with ActiveRecord, but none of them answer my question. I have an enum called OrderState: public enum OrderState {InQueue, Ordered, Error, Cancelled} And I have the following property on the table: [Property(NotNull = true, SqlType = "orderstate", ColumnType = "DB.EnumMapper, WebSite")] public OrderState State { get { return state; } set { state = value; } } And I have the following type class: public class EnumMapper : NHibernate.Type.EnumStringType<OrderState> { public EnumMapper() { } public override NHibernate.SqlTypes.SqlType SqlType { get { return new NHibernate.SqlTypes.SqlType(DbType.Object); } } } Now this actually works the way I want, but the problem is I have tons of enums and I don't want to create a EnumMapper class for each one of them. Isn't there some way to just tell ActiveRecord to use DbType.Object for any enum? It seems to either want to be an integer or a string, but nothing else. This one's been driving me crazy for the last 2 hours.. Mike

  • Is it possible to tweak TStringField to work like TWideStringField in Delphi?

    - by mjustin
We want to use Unicode with Delphi 2009 and Interbase, and found that to switch the character encoding from WIN1252 to UNICODE_FSS we first have to replace all instances of TStringField with TWideStringField in all datamodules. For around 60 datamodules, we can not simply do this over one weekend. I can see only two options for a migration strategy: find a workaround which allows to use the existing TStringField fields without triggering the 'expected: TWideStringField' error or remove all persistent fields to avoid the string type conflict As far as I know the field types for persistent database fields are registered in some kind of class registry. Could we use this to make Delphi believe that a TStringField is ok for a Interbase character column with UNICODE_FSS encoding? Or can we use a commercial dbExpress driver which work with TStringField in both cases? See also my related question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2302670/delphi-dbexpress-and-interbase-unicode-migration-steps-and-risks
