  • receiving data from serialport stops when main form is minimized or moved

    Sir, I apologize if this is already covered somewhere. I did a search and find something which I have already implemented. I am developing an application which receives data from a device connected via serialport. I am using SerialPort datareceived event to capture data. I am to display data in text boxes of the main form. Data is received frequently. I used Timer to send command to the device, in response device send some data. Timer interval is 100 ms. In every 100 ms interval some command is sent and correspondingly data is received. I used Invoke function to update the GUI elements like TExtbox, labels etc. Everything is fine. All the elements are updating beautifully. But during receiving data if I make any change in main form like moving form, minimizing, maximizing, or clicking somewhere in the form, then data receiving stops. I couldnot find the reason why its happening ? I also changed the timer interval to 200,300,400,500 but same problem is there. Please tell me why its happening? And possible solution...     so the following converts big endians to little ones uint32_t ntoh32(uint32_t v) { return (v << 24) | ((v & 0x0000ff00) << 8) | ((v & 0x00ff0000) >> 8) | (v >> 24); } works. like a charm. I read 4 bytes from a big endian file into char v[4] and pass it into the above function as ntoh32 (* reinterpret_cast<uint32_t *> (v)) that doesn't work - because my compiler (VS 2005) automatically converts the big endian char[4] into a little endian uint32_t when I do the cast. AFAIK, this automatic conversion will not be portable, so I use uint32_t ntoh_4b(char v[]) { uint32_t a = 0; a |= (unsigned char)v[0]; a <<= 8; a |= (unsigned char)v[1]; a <<= 8; a |= (unsigned char)v[2]; a <<= 8; a |= (unsigned char)v[3]; return a; } yes the (unsigned char) is necessary. yes it is dog slow. there must be a better way. anyone ?

I would like to: use google's compiler.jar to minify my JS use yahoo's yui-compressor.jar to minify my CSS access a file and change a string so that header files like "global.css?v=21" get served the correct version deploy the app (sftp, mercurial or rsync?) omitting certain directories like "/userfiles" Can you guys put me on the right track to solve this?     I have the following jquery code that is looping through the returned json data, for some reason is it splitting the suburb by a space when being assigned as the value but not as the text, I cannot work out why this is happening.     I have a bit of a task before me. (DB2 Database) I need to create a table that will be a child table (is that what it is called in SQL?) I need it so that it has a foreign key constraint with my other table, so when the parent table is modified (record deleted) the child table also loses that record. Once I have the table, I also need to populate it with the data from the other table (if there is an easy way to UPDATE this). If you could point me in the right direction, this would help alot, as I do not even know what syntax to look for. Thanks in advance

    This is my first time I use MySQL as datastorage for my C# Application, as I've seen that there is no UNIQUEIDENTIFIER type as in SQL server I decieded to use INT with AUTO_INCREMENT, my problem is now if I execute a INSERT, how may I get the ID of the Record I just added. My quick and dirty solution has been to execute a SELECT MAX(ID) FROM table Statement. But this doesn't seem consistent. I belive there is a better solution something like mysql_insert_id() (PHP). Any Idea how to resolve this in C#?

    Given: two images of the same subject matter; the images have the same resolution, colour depth, and file format; the images differ in size and rotation; and two lists of (x, y) co-ordinates that correlate the images. I would like to know: How do you transform the larger image so that it visually aligns to the second image? (Optional.) What are the minimum number of points needed to get an accurate transformation? (Optional.) How far apart do the points need to be to get an accurate transformation? The transformation would need to rotate, scale, and possibly shear the larger image. Essentially, I want to create (or find) a program that does the following: Input two images (e.g., TIFFs). Click several anchor points on the small image. Click the several corresponding anchor points on the large image. Transform the large image such that it maps to the small image by aligning the anchor points. This would help align pictures of the same stellar object. (For example, a hand-drawn picture from 1855 mapped to a photograph taken by Hubble in 2000.) Many thanks in advance for any algorithms (preferably Java or similar pseudo-code), ideas or links to related open-source software packages.

    I'd need a class like std::auto_ptr for an array of unsigned char*, allocated with new[]. But auto_ptr only calls delete and not delete[], so i can't use it. I also need to have a function which creates and returns the array.     How can I get an iframe such that when it loads up, it loads up with the page inside scrolled down by a fixed amount (say 100px)? I have so far: <iframe src="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7459669.stm" scrolling="no" width=500px height=500px></iframe> but it loads up with the bbc.co.uk page inside at the top left when I actually want it to load up scrolled part way down (that is the page inside the iframe scrolled down, not the page containing the iframe). So right now I am using me of this: function checkpoints() { var postThis = 'checker.php?userid='+ $('#user_id_points').val(); $.post(postThis, function(data){ $(".vispoints").html(data).find(".vispoints1").fadeIn("slow") }); setTimeout(checkpoints, 5000); } This function repeats each 5 seconds (sending request each 5 seconds) and running the checker.php each 5 seconds, to show how many points you got. (checker.php echo out how many points you've got in a span class vispoints1). Now isnt there a smarter method doing this, instead of sending requests like this all the time.. I mean sites like facebook and that, they dont do like this to check if you e.g got a new friend request? Hope you can help me find a better method examples would be good too.
