  • jQuery: How to position one element relative to another?

    - by paul
    I have a hidden DIV which contains a toolbar-like menu. I have a number of DIVs which are enabled to show the menu DIV when the mouse hovers over them. Is there a built-in function which will move the menu DIV to the top right of the active (mouse hover) DIV? I'm looking for something like $(menu).position("topright", targetEl);

  • WPF format displayed text?

    - by Mark
    I have a column defined like this: <DataGridTextColumn Binding="{Binding Path=FileSizeBytes, Mode=OneWay}" Header="Size" IsReadOnly="True" /> But instead of displaying the file size as a big number, I'd like to display units, but still have it sort by the actual FileSizeBytes. Is there some way I can run it through a function or something before displaying it?

  • PHP array performance

    - by dfo
    Hi, this is my first question on Stackoverflow, please bear with me. I'm testing an algorithm for 2d bin packing and I've chosen PHP to mock it up as it's my bread-and-butter language nowadays. As you can see on http://themworks.com/pack_v0.2/oopack.php?ol=1 it works pretty well, but you need to wait around 10-20 seconds for 100 rectangles to pack. For some hard to handle sets it would hit the php's 30s runtime limit. I did some profiling and it shows that most of the time my script goes through different parts of a small 2d array with 0's and 1's in it. It either checks if certain cell equals to 0/1 or sets it to 0/1. It can do such operations million times and each times it takes few microseconds. I guess I could use an array of booleans in a statically typed language and things would be faster. Or even make an array of 1 bit values. I'm thinking of converting the whole thing to some compiled language. Is PHP just not good for it? If I do need to convert it to let's say C++, how good are the automatic converters? My script is just a lot of for loops with basic arrays and objects manipulations. Thank you! Edit. This function gets called more than any other. It reads few properties of a very simple object, and goes through a very small part of a smallish array to check if there's any element not equal to 0. function fits($bin, $file, $x, $y) { $flag = true; $xw = $x + $file->get_width();; $yh = $y + $file->get_height(); for ($i = $x; $i < $xw; $i++) { for ($j = $y; $j < $yh; $j++) { if ($bin[$i][$j] !== 0) { $flag = false; break; } } if (!$flag) break; } return $flag; }

  • jquery animate - dead simple

    - by danit
    All I want to do is on .click() is .animate #slip, essentially Im changing the css at the moment from top: 10px to top: 0px Instead of it being quite clunky i'd like to animate the movement on the change of CSS. Currently use .toggleClass to achieve this: $("#div1").click(function() { $("#div2t").toggleClass('min'); });

  • makecontext segfault?

    - by cdietschrun
    I am working on a homework assignment that will be due in the next semester. It requires us to implement our own context switching/thread library using the ucontext API. The professor provides code that does it, but before a thread returns, he manually does some work and calls an ISR that finds another thread to use and swapcontexts to it or if none are left, exits. The point of the assignment is to use the uc_link field of the context so that when it hits a return it takes care of the work. I've created a function (type void/void args) that just does the work the functions did before (clean up and then calls ISR). The professor said he wanted this. So all that's left is to do a makecontext somewhere along the way on the context in the uc_link field so that it runs my thread, right? Well, when I do makecontext on seemingly any combination of ucontext_t's and function, I get a segfault and gdb provides no help.. I can skip the makecontext and my program exist 'normally' when it hits a return in the threads I created because (presumably) the uc_link field is not properly setup (which is what I'm trying to do). I also can't find anything on why makecontext would segfault. Can anyone help? stack2.ss_sp = (void *)(malloc(STACKSIZE)); if(stack2.ss_sp == NULL){ printf("thread failed to get stack space\n"); exit(8); } stack2.ss_size = STACKSIZE; stack2.ss_flags = 0; if(getcontext(&main_context) == -1){ perror("getcontext in t_init, rtn_env"); exit(5); } //main_context.uc_stack = t_state[i].mystk; main_context.uc_stack = stack2; main_context.uc_link = 0; makecontext(&main_context, (void (*)(void))thread_rtn, 0); I've also tried just thread_rtn, &thread_rtn and other things. thread_rtn is declared as void thread_rtn(void). later, in each thread. run_env is of type ucontext_t: ... t_state[i].run_env.uc_link = &main_context;

  • Why does this crash: stringByAppendingFormat

    - by Emil
    Hey. My code crashes at this function (at the stringByAppendingFormat: with error objc_msgSend() selector name: stringByAppendingFormat). This is that line: // imagesPath = ...iPhone Simulator/4.0/Applications/NUMBERS/Documents/images UIImage *image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:[imagesPath stringByAppendingFormat:@"/%d.png", [[self.postsArrayID objectAtIndex:row] intValue]]]; Could it have something to do with the retaining of objects? Thanks :)

  • Geometric Mean: is there a built-in?

    - by doug
    i tried to find a built-in for geometric mean but couldn't. (Obviously a built-in isn't going to save me any time while working in the shell, nor do i suspect there's any difference in accuracy; for scripts i try to use built-ins as often as possible, where the (cumulative) performance gain is often noticeable. In case there isn't one (which i doubt is the case) here's mine. gm_mean = function(a){prod(a)^(1/length(a))}

  • how to update newly exposed area of a scrolled widget

    - by yan bellavance
    I have setAttribute(Qt::WA_OpaquePaintEvent,true) on a widget. From a mouseMoveEvent, I scroll the widget. Now what I need to do is to update the newly exposed area, but it seems that doing this from the paintevent function create an artifact because there is a delay created when the user keeps scrolling. In other words, the widget seems to have scrolled again between the call to scrool and the call or end of paintevent. For example, while the paint event is trying to draw the desired area, the widget is still scrolling

  • what is the probability that the next random number will equal current one?

    - by I__
    if i do this in a worksheet: =RAND() i also specified that i want only 2 decimal places and for example let's say that rand() = 0.07 what is the probability that when i call this function again i will get 0.07 ?? i know that ideally if we assume 100% randomness, the answer would be 1/ (10 * 10) because there are only 100 possible combinations, but what would it be according to the way excel generates a random number?

  • C++ static array leading to memory leak?

    - by MDonovin
    Lets say I have something like... void foo() { char c[100]; printf("this function does nothing useful"); } When foo is called, it creates the array on the stack, and when it goes out of scope, is the memory deallocated automatically? Or is c destroyed, but the memory remains allocated, with no way to access it/get it back except restarting the computer?
