  • How are variables bound to the body of a define_method?

    - by Chris
While trying to brush up my Ruby skills I keep running across this case which I can't figure out an explanation for by just reading the API docs. An explanation would be greatly appreciated. Here's the example code: for name in [ :new, :create, :destroy ] define_method("test_#{name}") do puts name end end What I want/expect to happen is that the name variable will be bound to the block given to define_method and that when #test_new is called it will output "new". Instead each defined method outputs "destroy" -- the last value assigned to the name variable. What am I misunderstanding about define_method and its blocks? Thanks!

  • How do you use FastInfoset with JAXWS?

    - by Chris Kessel
I've got code that looks like it should be correct based on what I can find, but the spewed output doesn't indicate that it's using FastInfoset. My understanding is the Accept should indicate it can accept Fastinfoset and the response would actually use it, meaning it's not text/xml as the response type. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I've scoured with Google and I'm having a hard time finding much detail on how to use FastInfoset at all. JaxWsProxyFactoryBean factory = new JaxWsProxyFactoryBean(); factory.getInInterceptors().add(new LoggingInInterceptor()); factory.getOutInterceptors().add(new LoggingOutInterceptor()); factory.setServiceClass( C360Server.class); factory.setAddress("http://localhost:8501/cxfcontroller/cl_v5"); C360Server client = (C360Server)factory.create(); ((BindingProvider)client).getRequestContext().put( "com.sun.xml.ws.client.ContentNegotiation", "optimistic"); C360Request requestTrans = new C360Request(); ... code to fill in the request ... C360Response response = client.findContacts( requestTrans ); The logging doesn't seem to indicate FastInfoset is even attempted though: INFO: Outbound Message --------------------------- ID: 1 Address: http://localhost:8501/cxfcontroller/cl_v5 Encoding: UTF-8 Content-Type: text/xml Headers: {SOAPAction=[""], Authorization=[Basic cWFfc3VwZXI6cWFfc3VwZXI=], Accept=[*/*]} Payload: <soap:Envelope xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"><soap:Body><ns1:findContacts>...bunch of xml deleted for brevity...</ns1:findContacts></soap:Body></soap:Envelope> -------------------------------------- May 17, 2010 3:23:45 PM org.apache.cxf.interceptor.LoggingInInterceptor logging INFO: Inbound Message ---------------------------- ID: 1 Response-Code: 200 Encoding: UTF-8 Content-Type: text/xml; charset=utf-8 Headers: {content-type=[text/xml; charset=utf-8], Content-Length=[611], Server=[Jetty(6.1.x)]} Payload: <soap:Envelope xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"><soap:Body><ns1:findContactsResponse>...bunch of xml spew deleted for brevity...</ns1:findContactsResponse></soap:Body></soap:Envelope> -------------------------------------- Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? • Browser Not Reading Entire XML File

    - by Chris
I have an XML file that is written by a PHP script. The data for the XML file is gathered from several different RSS feeds. The PHP script is invoked every 5 minutes by a Cron Job. The PHP Script takes maybe 5-10 seconds to write the XML File. Here's the problem: After the XML file is written, I can open it through DreamWeaver and read everything just fine - but when I enter the XML File's URL into my Web Browser (IE or Firefox), I get a "XML Parsing Error: not well-formed" Error in the Browser. When I do View Source in the Browser, the XML file appears incomplete - but when I open the file directly off the server, it is complete. Anyone know what's going on here?

  • How to remove htmlentities() values from the database?

    - by Chris
Long before I knew anything - not that I know much even now - I desgined a web app in php which inserted data in my mysql database after running the values through htmlentities(). I eventually came to my senses and removed this step and stuck it in the output rather than input and went on my merry way. However I've since had to revisit some of this old data and unfortunately I have an issue, when it's displayed on the screen I'm getting values displayed which are effectively htmlentitied twice. So, is there a mysql or phpmyadmin way of changing all the older, affected rows back into their relevant characters or will I have to write a script to read each row, decode and update all 17 million rows in 12 tables?

  • MySQL Sub-query.. Doesn't provide proper information after 3 entries into table.

    - by Chris Keefer
After I get 3 rows in my forum_threads table this no longer does it's job; to organize a list of active forum threads and put the most recently responded-to thread at the top of the list, followed by second most recent posted-to thread, followed by third, fourth, etc. Like I said, the query works wonders up until there is a fourth row added to forum_threads. SELECT forum_threads.*, forum_posts.thread_id FROM forum_threads INNER JOIN (SELECT MAX(id) AS id, thread_id as thread_id FROM forum_posts group by thread_id order by id DESC) forum_posts ON forum_threads.id = forum_posts.thread_id

  • Advanced search functionality

    - by Chris
I have a website with a jQuery based autocomplete search functionality which works great. Currently though I have just one search box for all categories, what I want is for someone to be able to type in, say for example, dorian gray dvd (in any order) which will search for dorian gray within the dvd category. What this will require then is a bit of magic on the server side to figure out if any of the words are category keywords, and then limit the search by that. What is the best (and quickest) way to do this in PHP / MySQL? I currently have a few trains of thought Search the category table for matches and perhaps order the results by that. Or split up the search terms into an array and separately search the categories for that for a match. Another thought I just had is to concat the category title to the dvd title in the database and match against that, or something similar... but this sounds computationally expensive? Any advice?

  • Formatting numbers with significant figures in C#

    - by Chris Farmer
I have some decimal data that I am pushing into a SharePoint list where it is to be viewed. I'd like to restrict the number of significant figures displayed in the result data based on my knowledge of the specific calculation. Sometimes it'll be 3, so 12345 will become 12300 and 0.012345 will become 0.0123. Occasionally it will be 4 or 5. Is there any convenient way to handle this?

  • Objective-c garbage collection

    - by Chris
If garbage collection is not required: - (void) awakeFromNib{ //Create the NSStatusBar and set its length statusItem = [[[NSStatusBar systemStatusBar] statusItemWithLength:NSSquareStatusItemLength] retain]; ... Do I have to release that? And if I do, would that be in a finalize method or dealloc method? If garbage collection is required, then is the retain call above ignored automatically?

  • 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method addEventListener

    - by Chris
I'm going through some AS3 training, but I'm getting a weird error... I'm trying to add an event listener to the end of a motion tween in AS. I've created a tween, highlighted the frames, right clicked and copied the tween as AS and pasted it into the movie clip (I think there's a better way to do this, but I'm not sure what it is...) When I try to add the listener to the end of that code, I get the error. Here's my code. import fl.motion.AnimatorFactory; import fl.motion.MotionBase; import fl.motion.Motion; import flash.filters.*; import flash.geom.Point; import fl.motion.MotionEvent; import fl.events.*; var __motion_Enemy_3:MotionBase; if(__motion_Enemy_3 == null) { __motion_Enemy_3 = new Motion(); __motion_Enemy_3.duration = 30; // Call overrideTargetTransform to prevent the scale, skew, // or rotation values from being made relative to the target // object's original transform. // __motion_Enemy_3.overrideTargetTransform(); // The following calls to addPropertyArray assign data values // for each tweened property. • Determining CPU usage in WinCE

    - by Chris
I want to be able to get the current % CPU usage in a C++ program running under Wince. I found this link that states where the source code is but I cannot find it in my platform builder installation - I expect this is because it isn't the Windows Automotive platform. Does anyone know where I can find this source code or (even better) know how I can get this information directly? i.e. what DLL / function calls to make etc.

  • Cakephp Search Plugin: DateTime Range

    - by Chris
I am trying to search a model by dates using the CakePHP Search plugin The idea is: The user enters a date of a flight and the engine returns all flights within +- one day of that. My form: <?php echo $form->create('Flight', array( 'url' => array_merge(array('action' => 'find'), $this->params['pass']) )); echo $form->input('departure', array('div' => false, 'dateFormat' => 'DMY','timeFormat' => 'NONE')); echo $form->submit(__('Search', true), array('div' => false)); echo $form->end(); ?> My flight model: public $filterArgs = array( array('name' => 'departure', 'type' => 'expression', 'method' => 'makeRangeCondition', 'field' => 'ABS((TO_Days(Flight.departure))-( TO_Days(?))) < 2') ); The controller: public $presetVars = array( array('field' => 'departure', 'type' => 'expression') ); public function find() { $this->Prg->commonProcess(); $this->paginate['conditions'] = $this->Flight->parseCriteria($this->passedArgs); $this->set('flights', $this->paginate()); } When I try to search, the values for departure are packed in an array; Array ([departure] => Array ) And the filterArgs(...) function doesn't seem to understand this. What is the correct way to do this?

  • mod rewrite, title slugs and htaccess

    - by chris
I have been taken in to provide some seo guidance on a website which has been running since 2005. My problem is i want to use clean urls. The code that handles the url is hidden away in some class file.. and with over a few thousand lines of code its a struggle to rewrite it. So I'm think, I have gone through all the products and created a slug for them as a field in the product table. Is it possible to do something like an intermediate file for htaccess. Some thing like 1./clean-slug-comes-in/ 2.htaccess catches this and uses slug.php to find the relevant product id for the slug. 3.Then product.php?id=(ID.found.from.2) is loaded?

  • Need help optimizing a NHibernate criteria query that uses Restrictions.In(..)

    - by Chris F
    I'm trying to figure out if there's a way I can do the following strictly using Criteria and DetachedCriteria via a subquery or some other way that is more optimal. NameGuidDto is nothing more than a lightweight object that has string and Guid properties. public IList<NameGuidDto> GetByManager(Employee manager) { // First, grab all of the Customers where the employee is a backup manager. // Access customers that are primarily managed via manager.ManagedCustomers. // I need this list to pass to Restrictions.In(..) below, but can I do it better? Guid[] customerIds = new Guid[manager.BackedCustomers.Count]; int count = 0; foreach (Customer customer in manager.BackedCustomers) { customerIds[count++] = customer.Id; } ICriteria criteria = Session.CreateCriteria(typeof(Customer)) .Add(Restrictions.Disjunction() .Add(Restrictions.Eq("Manager", manager)) .Add(Restrictions.In("Id", customerIds))) .SetProjection(Projections.ProjectionList() .Add(Projections.Property("Name"), "Name") .Add(Projections.Property("Id"), "Guid")) // Transform results to NameGuidDto criteria.SetResultTransformer(Transformers.AliasToBean(typeof(NameGuidDto))); return criteria.List<NameGuidDto>(); }

  • Building out a well-structured service layer

    - by Chris Stewart
First, I want to say that it has been awhile since I've gotten into the kind of detail I am at currently. Lately, I've been very much in the SharePoint world and my entire thought process was focused there for quite some time. I'm very glad to be creating databases again, writing "lower level" code to deal with data access, and so forth. I'm working on a very simple web application and taking the opportunity to reacquaint myself with the way I used to structure my projects and various layers of code. For instance, I might have created something like this the last time I went about building something basic from scratch: - MyProject/ -- Domain/ --- Impl/ ---- Person -- Model/ --- IPersonRepository --- Impl/ ---- PersonRepository : IPersonRepository -- Services --- IPersonService --- Impl/ ---- PersonService : IPersonService That would have been the project I did the real work in, and then referenced in the ASP.NET project. My approach was very much inspired by what I saw from the CodeCampServer project as at that time ASP.NET MVC was still very new and it was the only open project I could find actively being developed, and by solid people at that. What ways are you going about structuring your projects and code, when it comes to a general problem you're working on? Certainly various problems can put constraints on this, but assume it's a basic problem without specific needs that affect the structure and layout of your code.

  • jquery sortable with regexp

    - by Chris Lively
    I am trying to figure out the right regexp to match on list item id's. For example: <ul id="MyList" class="connectedSortable"> <li id="id=1-32">Item 1</li> <li id="id=2_23">Item 2</li> <li id="id=3">Item 3</li> <li id="id=4">Item 4</li> <li id="id=5">Item 5</li> <li id="id=6">Item 6</li> </ul> On the serialize method, I want it to pull everything after the equal sign (=) $(function () { $("#MyList, #OtherList").sortable({ connectWith: '.connectedSortable', update: function () { $("#MyListOrder").val($("#MyList").sortable('serialize', { regexp: '/(.+)[=](.+)/)' })); } }).disableSelection(); }); I tried the above, but that didn't quite work. My regexp expression is wrong and I don't know what it should be. Ideas?

  • NHibernate correct way to reattach cached entity to different session

    - by Chris Marisic
I'm using NHibernate to query a list of objects from my database. After I get the list of objects over them I iterate over the list of objects and apply a distance approximation algorithm to find the nearest object. I consider this function of getting the list of objects and apply the algorithm over them to be a heavy operation so I cache the object which I find from the algorithm in HttpRuntime.Cache. After this point whenever I'm given the supplied input again I can just directly pull the object from Cache instead of having to hit the database and traverse the list. My object is a complex object that has collections attached to it, inside the query where I return the full list of objects I don't bring back any of the sub collections eagerly so when I read my cached object I need lazy loading to work correctly to be able to display the object fully. Originally I tried using this to re-associate my cached object back to a new session _session.Lock(obj, LockMode.None); However when accessing the page concurrently from another instance I get the error Illegal attempt to associate a collection with two open sessions I then tried something different with _session.Merge(obj); However watching the output of this in NHProf shows that it is deleting and re-associating my object's contained collections with my object, which is not what I want although it seems to work fine. What is the correct way to do this? Neither of these seem to be right.

  • How do I correctly reference georss: point in my xsd?

    - by Chris Hinch
I am putting together an XSD schema to describe an existing GeoRSS feed, but I am stumbling trying to use the external georss.xsd to validate an element of type georss:point. I've reduced the problem to the smallest components thusly: XML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <this> <apoint>45.256 -71.92</apoint> </this> XSD: <xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:georss="http://www.georss.org/georss"> <xs:import namespace="http://www.georss.org/georss" schemaLocation="http://georss.org/xml/1.1/georss.xsd"/> <xs:element name="this"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="apoint" type="georss:point"/> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:schema> If I make apoint type "xs: string" instead of "georss: point", the XML validates happily against the XSD, but as soon as I reference an imported type (georss: point), my XML validator (Notepad++ | XML Tools) "cannot parse the schema". What am I doing wrong?

  • What is happening in Crockford's object creation technique?

    - by Chris Noe
There are only 3 lines of code, and yet I'm having trouble fully grasping this: Object.create = function (o) { function F() {} F.prototype = o; return new F(); }; newObject = Object.create(oldObject); (from Prototypal Inheritance) 1) Object.create() starts out by creating an empty function called F. I'm thinking that a function is a kind of object. Where is this F object being stored? Globally I guess. 2) Next our oldObject, passed in as o, becomes the prototype of function F. Function (i.e., object) F now "inherits" from our oldObject, in the sense that name resolution will route through it. Good, but I'm curious what the default prototype is for an object, Object? Is that also true for a function-object? 3) Finally, F is instantiated and returned, becoming our newObject. Is the "new" operation strictly necessary here? Doesn't F already provide what we need, or is there a critical difference between function-objects and non-function-objects? Clearly it won't be possible to have a constructor function using this technique. What happens the next time Object.create() is called? Is global function F overwritten? Surely it is not reused, because that would alter previously configured objects. And what happens if multiple threads call Object.create(), is there any sort of synchronization to prevent race conditions on F?

  • php request variables assigning $_GEt

    - by chris
if you take a look at a previous question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2690742/mod-rewrite-title-slugs-and-htaccess I am using the solution that Col. Shrapnel proposed- but when i assign values to $_GET in the actual file and not from a request the code doesnt work. It defaults away from the file as if the $_GET variables are not set The code I have come up with is- if(!empty($_GET['cat'])){ $_GET['target'] = "category"; if(isset($_GET['page'])){ $_GET['pageID'] = $_GET['page']; } $URL_query = "SELECT category_id FROM cats WHERE slug = '".$_GET['cat']."';"; $URL_result = mysql_query($URL_query); $URL_array = mysql_fetch_array($URL_result); $_GET['category_id'] = $URL_array['category_id']; }elseif($_GET['product']){ $_GET['target'] = "product"; $URL_query = "SELECT product_id FROM products WHERE slug = '".$_GET['product']."';"; $URL_result = mysql_query($URL_query); $URL_array = mysql_fetch_array($URL_result); print_r($URL_array); $_GET['product_id'] = $URL_array['product_id']; The original variable string that im trying to represent is /cart.php?Target=product&product_id=16142&category_id=249 And i'm trying to build the query string variables with code and including cart.php so i can use cleaner URL's So I have product/product-title-with-clean-url/ going to slug.php?product=slug Then the slug searches the db for a record with the matching slug and returns the product_id as in the code above. Then built the query string and include cart.php

Thanks for looking. All helpful answers/comments are up voted. In php, you can use NOW() like this: mysql_query("INSERT INTO tablename (id, value, time_created) VALUES ('{$id}', '{$value}', NOW())"); How can I do the same thing in PDO. When I bind like this, I get an error: $stmt->bindParam(':time_added', NOW(), PDO::PARAM_STR); Is it the PDO:PARAM_STR?
