  • SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script not allowed to access directory owned by uid

    I am running a dedicated server with multiple websites. I have created a global directory for common scripts for all websites, rather than repeating them in every website directory. How can I make this global directory accessible for all website. I am getting following error. Warning: require_once() [function.require-once]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is XXXX is not allowed to access /vhosts/globallibrary/Zend/Application.php owned by uid XXXX I have change the ownership of global directory for X website. so it works fine for X website. latter I added another website Y Now I am getting the same error again. If I change the CHOWN for Y website then X website will have the same error. I don't want to disable the safemode restriction. Is there a work around, so that this global dir will be accessible by all website. I am getting following error in my browser when I try to access global directory. Global directory is on same level as all other websites. Is this a good practice to enable safemode for websites?

  • Can't login to Windows server 2008 (as any user, not even locally, not in safe mode but I have right credentials)

    Just from nowhere I can't login to my Windows server 2008 machine. All the services like FTP server or webserver (which I'm actually not using, just remote desktop and FTP) are running. Whatever credentials I try (even/especialy administrator), it always says Unknown Username or bad password. I have already tried hard turn off/on and safe mode without luck. Also I already tried type in login name as SERVER NAME\user or Workgroup\user (every case sensitive scenario), still says I have wrong login. Usually we are using remote desktop to access the machine but local access over KVM doesn't work either. Now I'm lock out of any control or any way to do something. There's just logon screen preceding by ctrl+alt+del to login alert. Without me able to login I can't actually try to fix anything. Can't find much more on Internet except the SERVER NAME\user thing. Reinstall would be the last resort but I can't let things this way for much longer anyway. This server is vital. If it would be any help, I think automatic Windows updates are turned off and there were no updates or newly installed software for last couple years and just few soft restarts, non of them recently. It happened during it's runtime while all other services were still up and running, so this couldn't be just some Windows nasty screw up during boot or something. What could have possibly changed? What are my options now?

  • Why do I get Detached Entity exception when upgrading Spring Boot 1.1.4 to 1.1.5

    On updating Spring Boot from 1.1.4 to 1.1.5 a simple web application started generating detached entity exceptions. Specifically, a post authentication inteceptor that bumped number of visits was causing the problem. A quick check of loaded dependencies showed that Spring Data has been updated from 1.6.1 to 1.6.2 and a further check of the change log shows a couple of issues relating to optimistic locking, version fields and JPA issues that have been fixed. Well I am using a version field and it starts out as Null following recommendation to not set in the specification. I have produced a very simple test scenario where I get detached entity exceptions if the version field starts as null or zero. If I create an entity with version 1 however then I do not get these exceptions. Is this expected behaviour or is there still something amiss? Below is the test scenario I have for this condition. In the scenario the service layer that has been annotated @Transactional. Each test case makes multiple calls to the service layer - the tests are working with detached entities as this is the scenario I am working with in the full blown application. The test case comprises four tests: Test 1 - versionNullCausesAnExceptionOnUpdate() In this test the version field in the detached object is Null. This is how I would usually create the object prior to passing to the service. This test fails with a Detached Entity exception. I would have expected this test to pass. If there is a flaw in the test then the rest of the scenario is probably moot. Test 2 - versionZeroCausesExceptionOnUpdate() In this test I have set the version to value Long(0L). This is an edge case test and included because I found reference to Zero values being used for version field in the Spring Data change log. This test fails with a Detached Entity exception. Of interest simply because the following two tests pass leaving this as an anomaly. Test 3 - versionOneDoesNotCausesExceptionOnUpdate() In this test the version field is set to value Long(1L). Not something I would usually do, but considering the notes in the Spring Data change log I decided to give it a go. This test passes. Would not usually set the version field, but this looks like a work-around until I figure out why the first test is failing. Test 4 - versionOneDoesNotCausesExceptionWithMultipleUpdates() Encouraged by the result of test 3 I pushed the scenario a step further and perform multiple updates on the entity that started life with a version of Long(1L). This test passes. Reinforcement that this may be a useable work-around.   • Is it safe to use random Unicode for complex delimiter sequences in strings?

    Question: In terms of program stability and ensuring that the system will actually operate, how safe is it to use chars like ¦, § or ‡ for complex delimiter sequences in strings? Can I reliable believe that I won't run into any issues in a program reading these incorrectly? I am working in a system, using C# code, in which I have to store a fairly complex set of information within a single string. The readability of this string is only necessary on the computer side, end-users should only ever see the information after it has been parsed by the appropriate methods. Because some of the data in these strings will be collections of variable size, I use different delimiters to identify what parts of the string correspond to a certain tier of organization. There are enough cases that the standard sets of ;, |, and similar ilk have been exhausted. I considered two-char delimiters, like ;# or ;|, but I felt that it would be very inefficient. There probably isn't that large of a performance difference in storing with one char versus two chars, but when I have the option of picking the smaller option, it just feels wrong to pick the larger one. So finally, I considered using the set of characters like the double dagger and section. They only take up one char, and they are definitely not going to show up in the actual text that I'll be storing, so they won't be confused for anything. But character encoding is finicky. While the visibility to the end user is meaningless (since they, in fact, won't see it), I became recently concerned about how the programs in the system will read it. The string is stored in one database, while a separate program is responsible for both encoding and decoding the string into different object types for the rest of the application to work with. And if something is expected to be written one way, is possibly written another, then maybe the whole system will fail and I can't really let that happen. So is it safe to use these kind of chars for background delimiters?

  • Is it safe to read regular expressions from a file?

    Assuming a Perl script that allows users to specify several text filter expressions in a config file, is there a safe way to let them enter regular expressions as well, without the possibility of unintended side effects or code execution? Without actually parsing the regexes and checking them for problematic constructs, that is. There won't be any substitution, only matching. As an aside, is there a way to test if the specified regex is valid before actually using it? I'd like to issue warnings if something like /foo (bar/ was entered. Thanks, Z. I've since found out that the following dangerous constructs will only be evaluated in regexes if the use re 'eval' pragma is used: (?{code}) (??{code}) ${code} @{code} The default is no re 'eval'; so unless I'm missing something, it should be safe to read regular expressions from a file, with the only check being the eval/catch posted by Axeman.   • How do I make my ArrayList Thread-Safe? Another approach to problem in Java?

    I have an ArrayList that I want to use to hold RaceCar objects that extend the Thread class as soon as they are finished executing. A class, called Race, handles this ArrayList using a callback method that the RaceCar object calls when it is finished executing. The callback method, addFinisher(RaceCar finisher), adds the RaceCar object to the ArrayList. This is supposed to give the order in which the Threads finish executing. I know that ArrayList isn't synchronized and thus isn't thread-safe. I tried using the Collections.synchronizedCollection(c Collection) method by passing in a new ArrayList and assigning the returned Collection to an ArrayList. What I am doing is deleting values from it while the iterator 'dx' is running through it. Here is what I expect from the code : Iteration versus element being pointed to (*): 0: [*0, 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36] 1: [0, *1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36] ( delete 2nd and 5th element after this iteration ) 2: [0, 4, *9, 25, 36] 3: [0, 4, 9, *25, 36] ( delete -1th element after this iteration ) 4: [0, 4, 9, 25*] ( as the iterator points to nothing/end of list, the loop terminates ) .. and here is what I get: [0, 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36] 0 1 9 25 [0, 4, 9, 25] As you can see - what I expect is what I get - which is contrary to the behaviour I have had from other languages in such a scenario. Hence - I wanted to ask you if there is some rule like "the iterator becomes invalid if you mutate its space during iteration" in Python? Is it safe ( documented behaviour? ) in Python to do stuff like this?

    Almost all of my JUnit tests are written with the following signature: public void testSomething() throws Exception My reasoning is that I can focus on what I'm testing rather than exception handling which JUnit appears to give me for free. But am I missing anything by doing this? Is it against best practice? Would I gain anything by explicitly catching specific exceptions in my test and then fail()'ing on them?

Because in my application, with these exceptions I need to update the various status Like: if network failure occurs Status will be "unable to connect webservice" so I can try after sometime later.   • Parallelism in .NET – Part 13, Introducing the Task class

    Once we’ve used a task-based decomposition to decompose a problem, we need a clean abstraction usable to implement the resulting decomposition.  Given that task decomposition is founded upon defining discrete tasks, .NET 4 has introduced a new API for dealing with task related issues, the aptly named Task class. The Task class is a wrapper for a delegate representing a single, discrete task within your decomposition.  We will go into various methods of construction for tasks later, but, when reduced to its fundamentals, an instance of a Task is nothing more than a wrapper around a delegate with some utility functionality added.  In order to fully understand the Task class within the new Task Parallel Library, it is important to realize that a task really is just a delegate – nothing more.  In particular, note that I never mentioned threading or parallelism in my description of a Task.  Although the Task class exists in the new System.Threading.Tasks namespace: Tasks are not directly related to threads or multithreading. Of course, Task instances will typically be used in our implementation of concurrency within an application, but the Task class itself does not provide the concurrency used.  The Task API supports using Tasks in an entirely single threaded, synchronous manner. Tasks are very much like standard delegates.  You can execute a task synchronously via Task.RunSynchronously(), or you can use Task.Start() to schedule a task to run, typically asynchronously.  This is very similar to using delegate.Invoke to execute a delegate synchronously, or using delegate.BeginInvoke to execute it asynchronously. The Task class adds some nice functionality on top of a standard delegate which improves usability in both synchronous and multithreaded environments. The first addition provided by Task is a means of handling cancellation via the new unified cancellation mechanism of .NET 4.  If the wrapped delegate within a Task raises an OperationCanceledException during it’s operation, which is typically generated via calling ThrowIfCancellationRequested on a CancellationToken, or if the CancellationToken used to construct a Task instance is flagged as canceled, the Task’s IsCanceled property will be set to true automatically.  This provides a clean way to determine whether a Task has been canceled, often without requiring specific exception handling. Tasks also provide a clean API which can be used for waiting on a task.  Although the Task class explicitly implements IAsyncResult, Tasks provide a nicer usage model than the traditional .NET Asynchronous Programming Model.  Instead of needing to track an IAsyncResult handle, you can just directly call Task.Wait() to block until a Task has completed.  Overloads exist for providing a timeout, a CancellationToken, or both to prevent waiting indefinitely.  In addition, the Task class provides static methods for waiting on multiple tasks – Task.WaitAll and Task.WaitAny, again with overloads providing time out options.  This provides a very simple, clean API for waiting on single or multiple tasks. Note that we had two separate tasks, each of which raised two distinctly different types of exceptions.  We can handle this cleanly, with very little code, in a much nicer manner than the Asynchronous Programming API.  We no longer need to handle TargetInvocationException or worry about implementing the Event-based Asynchronous Pattern properly by setting the AsyncCompletedEventArgs.Error property.  Instead, we just raise our exception as normal, and handle AggregateException in a single location in our calling code.

  • Need help with PHP web app bootstrapping error potentially related to Zend [migrated]

    I am trying to get a program called OpenFISMA running on an Ubuntu AMI in AWS. The app is not really coded on the Ubuntu platform, but I am in my comfort zone there, and have tried both CentOS and OpenSUSE (both are sort of "native" for the app) for getting it working with the same or worse results. So, why not just get it working on Ubuntu? Anyway, the app is found here: www.openfisma.org and an install guide is found here: https://openfisma.atlassian.net/wiki/display/030100/Installation+Guide The install guide kind of sucks. It doesn't list dependencies in any coherent way or provide much of any detail (does not even mention Zend once on the entire page) so I've done a lot of work to divine the information I do have. I am going to the login page for the first time, and there should be some sort of bootstrapping occurring when I load the page. (I am not a programmer so I have no idea what it is doing there.)     Had an issue calling WCF service today. The following exception was being thrown when service was called:WebHost failed to process a request. Sender Information: System.ServiceModel.ServiceHostingEnvironment+HostingManager/35320229 Exception: System.ServiceModel.ServiceActivationException: The service '/InteliChartVendorCommunication/VendorService.svc' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation.  The exception message is: Security settings for this service require 'Basic' Authentication but it is not enabled for the IIS application that hosts this service..Ensured Basic authentication was indeed enabled in IIS before getting stumped on what actual issue could be. Turns out it was CustomErrors setting. Value was set to "off" vs "Off". Would have expected different exception from .NET (i.e. web.config parse exception) but it works now either way.

    AFAIK, a lot of C++ projects don't allow exceptions and deny them in coding guidelines. I have a lot of reasons, for example, exception is hard to handle correctly if your binary needs to be compiled by separate and different compilers. But it doesn't fully convince me, there is a lot of projects which are just using one compiler. Compared to C++, exceptions are heavily used in C# and Java and the reason can only be that exception are not bringing enough benefit. One point is debugbility in practice. Exception can not get the call stack in C++ code, but in C# and Java you can get the call stack from exception, it is significant and makes debugging easier. No-callstack is not the fault of the exception, it is the language difference, but it impacts the exception usage. So what's the reason that exceptions are frowned upon in c++ programs?

  • Is it safe to change the 'Security.salt' line to a more lengthy string {64 hex key}

    Hi everyone, I have changed the Configure::write('Security.salt', '############'); value in the file config/core.php file to a '256-bit hex key'. Is it safe or a good practice to change these lines for every different installation of cakephp application or shall I revert back to the original ? I also changed the Configure::write('Security.cipherSeed','7927237598237592759727'); to a different one of more length. Please throw some light on this. Thanks
