• What is the best way to make a game timer in Actionscript 3?

  I have built an online game system that depends on a timer that records how long it took a player to complete a challenge. It needs to be accurate to the millisecond. Their time is stored in a SQL database. The problem is that when I use the Timer class, some players are ending up getting scores in the database of less than a second. (which is impossible, as most challenges would take at least 11 seconds to complete even in a perfect situation.) What I have found is that if a player has too many browser windows open, and/or a slow computer, the flash game slows down actually affecting the timer speed itself. The timer is 'spinning' on screen so you can physically see the numbers slowing down. It is frustrating that I cannot just open a second thread or do something to allow flash to keep accurate time regardless of whatever else is going on in the program. Any ideas?

  I'm trying to make a query that grabs a single row from an SQL database and updates it. TableA AId AValue TableB BId AId BValue Ok, so TableA and TableB are linked by AId. I want to select a row in TableB based on AValue using a join. The following query is what I have and only grabs a value from TableB based on AId, I just don't know how to grab a row from TableB using AValue. • Get the sum by comparing between two tables

  I have to tables ProdBiscuit As tb and StockData As sd , I have to get the sum of the quantity in StockData (quantite) with the condition of if (sd.status0 AND sd.prodid = tb.id AND sd.matcuisine = 3) Here is my sql query SELECT tb.id, tb.nom, tb.proddate, tb.qty, tb.stockrecno FROM ProdBiscuit AS tb JOIN (SELECT id, prodid, matcuisine, status, SUM(quantite) AS rq FROM StockData) AS sd ON (tb.id = sd.prodid AND sd.status > 0 AND sd.matcuisine = 3) LIMIT 25 OFFSET @Myid This gives me no rows at all ? There is only 3 rows in ProdBiscuit and 11 rows in Stockdata and there is only 2 rows in StockData good with the condition. And as shown in the picture there is only two rows which give the condition. What is wrong in my query ? PS: The green lines on the image shows the condition in my query.

  hey guys I'm trying to use ip2country technique to show my users'flags simple thing to do is to write a sql statement and show users from session table and then query to see if their ip is in what range and show their flags it simple but dengerous becuase when showing 300 users online and fetching from session table and then query once again ip2country table to get the flags there will be surelly memory overusage problem now i wrote a query to make it in one query : SELECT s.session_ip,ipc.* FROM session s left join ip2country ipc ON ipc.ip_lo<=s.session_ip AND ipc.ip_hi>=s.session_ip WHERE s.session_time > '".( time() - 60) )."' now its clear above query is wrong cause ips saved in ip2country table is long string 1000013824 and ips saved in session table are real ip e.g. 193.169.0.0 now i know how to convert from ip to long in php ip2long() but is there any command in mysql to do it with out building another query !?

However, if I use SQL Profiler I see no UPDATE or INSERT queries coming in, and as a result none of my attached objects are being saved.

  I have a number of tables containing some basic (business related) mapping data. What's the most simple way to load the data from those tables, then save the modified values back. (all data should be replaced in the tables) An ORM is out of question as I would like to avoid creating domain objects for each table. The actual editing of the data is not an issue. (it is exported into Excel where the data is edited, then the file is uploaded with the modified data) The technology is .NET 3.5 (ASP.NET MVC) and SQL Server 2005. Thanks.

• No mapping for LONGVARCHAR in Hibernate 3.2

  I am running Hibernate 3.2.0 with MySQL 5.1. After updating the group_concat_max_len in MySQL (because of a group_concat query that was exceeding the default value), I got the following exception when executing a SQLQuery with a group_concat clause: "No Dialect mapping for JDBC type: -1" -1 is the java.sql.Types value for LONGVARCHAR. Evidently, increasing the group_concat_max_len value causes calls to group_concat to return a LONGVARCHAR value. This appears to be an instance of this bug: http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/hibernate/browse/HHH-3892 I guess there is a fix for this issue in Hibernate 3.5, but that is still a development version, so I am hesitant to put it into production, and don't know if it would cause issues for other parts of my code base. I could also just use JDBC queries, but then I have to replace every instance of a SQLQuery with a group_concat clause. Any other suggestions?

• Efficient retrieval of lists over WebServices

  I have a WCF WebService that uses LINQ and EF to connect to an SQL database. I have an ASP.NET MVC front end that collects its data from the webservice. It currently has functions such as List<Customer> GetCustomers(); As the number of customers increases massively the amount of data being passed increases also reducing efficiency. What is the best way to "page data" across WebServices etc. My current idea is to implement a crude paging system such as List<Customer> GetCustomers(int start, int length); This, however, means I would have to replicate such code for all functions returning List types. It is unfortunate that I cannot use LINQ as it would be much nicer. Does anyone have any advice or ideas of patterns to implement that would be "as nice as possible" Thanks

  Hello guys.. I have data which is starting from 0 in my database. My php will add 1 or -1 to the data depending on the user's input. My problem is that if data is 0 and a user try to subtract 1. The data become 4294967295 which is the maximum value of INT data type. Are there anyways to make the data stays in 0 even when the user asks for -1?   Google app engine has smart feature named back references and I usually iterate them where the traditional SQL's computed column need to be used. (I guess back-referencing force reload sub entities. Please consider that there are more properties should be computed for each force/unit-groups and I don't want to save these collective properties to each entities. :)

• UI to allow 700+ multiple choices

  In my desktop .NET application I have written(for internal use) where I need to allow my users to apply diagnosis's to a Member Plan. There are currently 700 in the system and growing. I need to allow them to add multiple diapnosis's at once. I currently am allowing this through a combo check list box. This works but is INSANELY unweildly for both myself and the users. What I am looking for is a how I could go about displaying these to the users. Ideally I would need to show two criteria for each each as well. Diagnosis Name and Diagnosis Code Ideas? How would you tackle this? I am using .Net 3.5sp1 and SQL 2005 for the backend. I don't care if the solution is WPF or Winforms.

  Arrrg!I am running into what i feel is a dumb issue with a simple script i'm writing in powershell. I am invoking a sql command that is calling a stored proc, with the results i put it a array. The results look something like this: Status ProcessStartTime ProcessEndTime ------ ---------------- -------------- Expired May 22 2010 8:31PM May 22 2010 8:32PM What i'm trying to do is if($s.Contains("Expired")) , report failed. Simple...? :( Problem i'm running into is it looks like Contains method is not being loaded as i get an error like this: Method invocation failed because [System.Object[]] doesn't contain a method named 'Contains'. I can get it to work with using ID variables but I would like to sort by popular posts. AND status='1' ORDER BY views_monthly DESC LIMIT 9" So the problem that I am having is it shows the first 9 just fine. When it gets to the point where views_monthly = 0 then it just loads the same 9 post over again. How do it get it to switch to using ID when it reaches Views_monthly = 0 and load fresh posts?
