  • WCF Service error received when using TCP: "The message could not be dispatched..."

    - by StM
I am new to creating WCF services. I have created a WCF web service in VS2008 that is running on IIS 7. When I use http the service works perfectly. When I configure the service for TCP and run I get the following error message. There was a communication problem. The message could not be dispatched because the service at the endpoint address 'net:tcp://elec:9090/CoordinateIdTool_Tcp/IdToolService.svc is unavailable for the protocol of the address. I have searched a lot of forums, including this one, for a resolution but nothing has worked. Everything appears to be set up correctly on IIS 7. WAS has been set up to run. The default web site has a net.tcp binding and the application has net.tcp under the enabled protocols. I am including what I think is the important part of the web.config from the host project and also the app.config from the client project I am using to test the service. Hopefully someone can spot my error. Thanks in advance for any help or recommendations that anyone can provide. • Data Access Layer in ASP.Net: Where do I create the Connection?

    - by atticae
If I want to create a 3-Layer ASP.Net application (Presentation Layer, Business Layer, Data Access Layer), where is the best place to create the Connection objects? So far I used a helper class in my Presentation Layer to create an IDbCommand from the ConnectionString in the web.config on each page and passed it on to the DAL classes/methods. Now I am not so sure, if this part shouldn't also be included in the DAL somehow, because it obviously is part of the Data Access. The DAL is in a separately compilated project, so I dont have access to the web.config and cannot access the connection string (right?). What is the best practice here?

  • Should we create Virtual Machine environment so a consultant can develop in similiar environment?

    - by ChrisNel52
This is a large project and currently there are only 3 developers working on it. We have some money in the budget to contract development help from a software consulting firm. However, because the location of our business it would be beneficial if the consultant could do their development off-site. Also, our company policy doesn't allow contract help to VPN into our network, so that is not an option. My question is, would it be a good idea to create a Virtual Machine that copies our internal environment (particularly our database and WCF service) and give the consultant the Virtual Machine image so that they can replicate the environment at their place of work? I haven't worked much with Virtual Machines, so I'm not sure if this is a good idea or if there are huge obstacles that I'm not thinking of. If anyone has ever done anything like this, it would be great to hear the pros/cons. Any help would be appreciated.

  • asp.net ajax progress counter

    - by xt_20
Hi all, I have a small C# ASP.NET app, and want to include an Ajax progress counter. The architecture is currently like this: Web Application -- calls a class that does the upload For example, in default.aspx, I call : FileHelper fh = new FileHelper() fh.MoveFiles(file) I have an Ajax control that fires when the above is called. This is a control that resides on the website class/project. How do I update the progress counter from the Filehelper class? (I don't think calling the control directly would work as it would be a circular reference) Also how do I continuously update the counter? Thanks all

  • Why is it not possible to call RegFree COM and .NET from the VB IDE (VB6 & VBA)?

    - by DangerMouse
Hi I have an example project with works when called from compiled VB6 but not from the IDE or from Excel's VBE. There are 3 DLLs QA.DLL, QB.DLL, QAW.DLL. QA is written in C#.NET, QB and QAW are written in VB6. QAW is a COM wrapper of QA. In the calling code I create an Activation Context and load a manifest file. All works fine from the exe created with VB6, but not in debug mode in VB6 or in Excel's VBA. I have the full example in zip. Any ideas what it is that is different about the IDE call and why it doesn't work? Many Thx -- DM

  • Is there a strategy to back-port C# code?

    - by ianmayo
Hi all, I intend using the Argotic framework in support of a .Net Atom server. Unfortunately my target server (over which I have no control) only has .Net 1.1 - any the Argotic library is only in .Net 2 and 3.5. So, I now need to back-port the code to 1.1. Can anybody provide any strategic tips for this undertaking? I'm aware of the merits of using Unit Tests to verify the ported code (here). should I be looking for automated tools? should I just import the code into VS2003 .Net 1.1 project and work through the compiler warnings? Any tips appreciated. cheers, Ian

  • Translate imperative control flow with break-s/continue-s to haskell

    - by dorserg
Consider the following imperative code which finds the largest palindrome among products of 3-digit numbers (yes, it's the one of the first tasks from "Project of [outstanding mathematician of 18th century]" site): curmax = 0 for i in range(999,100): for j in range(999,100): if ((i*j) < curmax): break if (pal(i*j)): curmax = i*j break print curmax As I'm learning Haskell currently, my question is, how do you translate this (and basically any imperative construct that contains something more complex than just plain iteration, e.g. breaks, continues, temporary variables and all this) to Haskell? My version is maxpal i curmax | i < 100 = curmax | otherwise = maxpal (i-1) (innerloop 999) where innerloop j | (j < 100) || (p < curmax) = curmax | pal p = p | otherwise = innerloop (j-1) where p = i*j main = print $ maxpal 999 0 but this looks like we're still in imperative uglytown. So what could you advise, what are the approaches of dealing with such cases FP-style?

  • Flex 3 Regular Expression Problem

    - by Tommy
I've written a url validator for a project I am working on. For my requirements it works great, except when the last part for the url goes longer than 22 characters it breaks. My expression: /((https?):\/\/)([^\s.]+.)+([^\s.]+)(:\d+\/\S+)/i It expects input that looks like "http(s)://hostname:port/location". When I give it the input: https://demo10:443/111112222233333444445 it works, but if I pass the input https://demo10:443/1111122222333334444455 it breaks. You can test it out easily at http://ryanswanson.com/regexp/#start. Oddly, I can't reproduce the problem with just the relevant (I would think) part /(:\d+\/\S+)/i. I can have as many characters after the required / and it works great. Any ideas or known bugs?

  • iPhone CGContext: drawing two lines with two different colors

    - by phonecoddy
I am having some troubles using the CGContext with an iPhone app. I am trying to draw several lines with different colors, but all the lines always end up having to color, which was used last. I tried several approaches I could think of, but haven't been lucky. I set up a small sample project to deal with that issue. This is my code, I use in the drawRect method. I am trying to draw a red and a blue line: - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect{ NSLog(@"drawrect!"); CGContextRef bluecontext = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); CGContextSetLineWidth(bluecontext, 2.0); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(bluecontext, [UIColor blueColor].CGColor); CGContextMoveToPoint(bluecontext, 1, 1); CGContextAddLineToPoint(bluecontext, 100, 100); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(bluecontext, [UIColor redColor].CGColor); CGContextAddLineToPoint(bluecontext, 200, 100); CGContextStrokePath(bluecontext); } thanks for your help

  • File Explorer using Java - how to go about it?

    - by user299988
Hi, I am set to create a file explorer using Java. The aim is to emulate the behavior of the default explorer as closely as possible, whatever may be the underlying OS. I have done NO GUI programming in Java. I have looked-up Swing, SWT and JFace, and I am beginning my project with this tutorial: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/opensource/library/os-ecgui1/ I would like to know your opinions about the best approach to tackle this problem. If you could comment on complexity of coding, portability and OS-independence, and efficiency, it would be great. Is there anything else I should know? Do some other ways exist? Thanks a lot!

  • snprintf and Visual Studio 2010

    - by Andrew
I'm unfortunate enough to be stuck using VS 2010 for a project, and noticed the following code still doesn't build using the non-standards compliant compiler: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> int main (void) { char buffer[512]; snprintf(buffer, sizeof(buffer), "SomeString"); return 0; } (fails compilation with the error: C3861: 'snprintf': identifier not found) I remember this being the case way back with VS 2005 and am shocked to see it still hasn't been fixed. Does any one know if Microsoft has any plans to move their standard C libraries into the year 2010?

  • Test for external undefined references in Linux

    - by Charles
Is there a built in linux utility that I can use to test a newly compiled shared library for external undefined references? Gcc seems to be intelligent enough to check for undefined symbols in my own binary, but if the symbol is a reference to another library gcc does not check at link time. Instead I only get the message when I try to link to my new library from another program. It seems a little silly to get undefined reference messages in a library when I am compiling a different project so I want to know if I can do a check on all references internal and external when I build the library not when I link to it. Example error: make -C UnitTests debug make[1]: Entering directory `~/projects/Foo/UnitTests` g++ [ tons of objects ] -L../libbar/bin -lbar -o UnitTests libbar.so: undefined reference to `DoSomethingFromAnotherLibrary` collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[1]: *** [~/projects/Foo/UnitTests] Error 1

  • Best solution for language documentation.

    - by Simone Margaritelli
I'm developing a new object oriented scripting language and the project itself is quite ready for audience now, so i'm starting to think about a serious (not as "drafty" as it is right now) way of document its grammar, functions from standard library and standard library classes. I've looked a bit around and almost every language hash its own web application for the documentation, Python uses Sphinx for instance. Which is the best PHP (don't have the time/will to install mod_who_knows_what on my server) application to accomplish this? I've used mediawiki a bit but i found its tag system a little bit hard to use in this context. Thanks for your answers.

  • Using image resource in XAML markup?

    - by Jeff Dahmer
I'm trying to add little icons to my tabs in WPF but having trouble with how to set up the binding. <TabItem.Header> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Image Source="{Binding Source=prop:Resources.eye}" /> <Label VerticalAlignment="Center">Header</Label> </StackPanel> </TabItem.Header> The xmlns:prop is set up for the local project's Properties, I am pulling other values from it elsewhere so I know that the namespace works. The markup above compiles fine BUT I don't see the eye image in the tab. Also, is there any way to set this up into a template? I'm fairly new to XAML/WPF and each tab will have its own image...

  • I18n - JSF variable value translation

    - by Yurish
Hi! I am using Bundle Internationalization in my project. I have initialized bundle via <f:loadBundle basename="ui.all.bundles.AppResources_en" var="msg"/> When i need to translate some text, i am using a key to resourceBundle, to get a value of it, for example: #{msg.someText}. But, now i want to translate text, which key is a value of another variable. For example: I have variable String textToTransl. It`s value is status_booked. In my AppResources is defined, that status_booked means "It is booked!", so, when i am pointing it to #{msg.textToTransl} i need to see "It is booked!" How can i make it work?

  • GWT complex app, many screens. Architecture?

    - by Kurian
I'm making a GWT application which will have many screens. There will be a menu on the left and clicking a menu option will open the relevant module in the right side content area. Clicking on items in the content area will link to other modules that open in the same content area. How do I implement this architecture? How do I pass objects between the different content modules? How do I isolate each module into its own package? Can all of these be within the same Eclipse project? Anything else that should be considered?

  • Is it possible to dynamically set a static string during compile?

    - by LonnieBest
I'm trying to dynamically create a connection string during compile time: public static string ConnectionString { get { string connectionString = @"Data Source=" + myLibrary.common.GetExeDir() + @"\Database\db.sdf;"; return connectionString; } } I keep running into type initialisation errors. I was trying to avoid having to set the connection string for all applications that user my code library. The location of the database is different for each project that uses the library. I have code that can determine the correction string, but was wanting run it during compile time. Is this even possible?

  • C# String Resource Values as Enum String Part values?

    - by JL
Using VS2010 and .net V4.0 I would like to achieve the following: I already have 2 resource files in my project for 2 languages - English and Czech. I must say Resource Management in .net is excellent, I am suprised even to get code completion when implementing a String for example: string desc = Strings.ResourceManagerDesc This gets the string associated with the current culture of the thread. Now I am trying to create an Enum that can have the String portion of the Enum interpreted from the Strings resources. In the following way (This code DOES NOT WORK): public enum DownloadStatus { 1 = Strings.DownloadState_Complete, 2 = Strings.DownloadState_Failed, 3 = Strings.DownloadState_InProgress } This is a made up example, but you can see the point here. Since the above code won't work, is there a best practice way to achieve what I want?

  • How to estimate the quality of a web page?

    - by roddik
Hello, I'm doing a university project, that must gather and combine data on a user provided topic. The problem I've encountered is that Google search results for many terms are polluted with low quality autogenerated pages and if I use them, I can end up with wrong facts. How is it possible to estimate the quality/trustworthiness of a page? You may think "nah, Google engineers are working on the problem for 10 years and he's asking for a solution", but if you think about it, SE must provide up-to-date content and if it marks a good page as a bad one, users will be dissatisfied. I don't have such limitations, so if the algorithm accidentally marks as bad some good pages, that wouldn't be a problem.

  • Grouping DLL's for use in Executable

    - by Peter Turner
Is there a way to group a bunch of DLL's and still use them at run time (not zipped up). Sorry this question sounds terse and stupid, but I'm not sure what more to ask. I'll explain the situation though: We've had two standalone Windows Applications and now one of our Applications has swelled to such ungainly proportions that the other application cannot run outside of the scope of the first app. We want to maintain some of the encapsulation we had while letting the smaller program in on some of the bigger program's features. There is no problem in running the application, other than we don't want to send out all the 20-30 DLL's that the smaller project has.

  • How to define supported BlackBerry OS versions and models for application?

    - by Lyubomyr Dutko
After company wins a project it is usual to mention in contract what devices are supported and what OS versions are supported. But taking into account BlackBerry it appears sometimes to be tricky, as you can have the same device model, but two and(or) more different OS versions (or within same OS different package versions). And in this situation application may need to be updated. So the main question here is what is expected to be mentioned in contract? Could you please share some your experience of resolving such problems? So as a good example can be case of video playback issue on Storm: some issue exists on 5.0.0.XXX (network provider A) and doesn't exist on 5.0.0.YYY (network provider B), or could be following: 5.0.0.XXX1 (network provider A) - issue exist 5.0.0.XXX2 (network provider A) - issue doesn't exist The point here is to define some boundaries of development company responsibility

  • deploying flex on tomcat

    - by ron
Hello, I am using Flash builder 4 (SDK3.5) to create my flex program. I want to deploy this program and load it to a tomcat server. I configure my "flex server" root folder and other parameters in the project properties. The problem is, that i don't know how to make it generic. e.g. my friend's tomcat is installed in other directory on the computer. I know that in eclipse i can run the server and tomcat from the IDE. I can't see how i do it in Flash builder plugin for eclipse 4. There is a server configuration, but there isn't adapter for tomcat. Any ideas? thanks.

  • How to: Inline assembler in C++ (under Visual Studio 2010)

    - by toxic shock
I'm writing a performance-critical, number-crunching C++ project where 70% of the time is used by the 200 line core module. I'd like to optimize the core using inline assembly, but I'm completely new to this. I do, however, know some x86 assembly languages including the one used by GCC and NASM. All I know: I have to put the assembler instructions in _asm{} where I want them to be. Problem: I have no clue where to start. What is in which register at the moment my inline assembly comes into play?

  • Rails/mysql SUM distinct records - optimization

    - by pepernik
Hey. How would you optimize this SQL SELECT SUM(tmp.cost) FROM ( SELECT DISTINCT clients.id as client, countries.credits_cost AS cost FROM countries INNER JOIN clients ON clients.country_id = countries.id INNER JOIN clients_groups ON clients_groups.client_id=clients.id WHERE clients_groups.group_id IN (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) GROUP BY clients.id ) AS tmp; I'm using this example as part of my Ruby on Rails project. Note that my nested SQL (tmp) can have more then 10 milion records. You can split that in more SQLs if the performance is better. Should I add any indexes to make it quicker (i have it on IDs)?
