• after enabling mod ssl apache stops listening on port 80

  I have an ubuntu 12.04 server with zend server CE installed. I now wanted to enable https but after the first steps according to the documentation, 'a2enmod ssl' and 'apache service restart', apache does not listen on 443 but neither on 80, according to netstat -tap | grep http(s)! • Asterisk Outgoing CDR Logging To Mysql

  Trying to utilize the cdr logging (to mysql) using custom fields. The problem I am facing is only when an outbound call is placed, during inbound calls the custom field I am able to log no problem. The reason I am having an issue is because the custom cdr field I need is a unique value for each user on the system. sip.conf ... ... But above it you can see for the Oubound section of the dialplan I have been stumped on how I would be able to tell the dialplan which agent_id is making the outbound call. My Question: how to take the agent_id=[11] & agent_id=[12] and agent_id=[13] and agent_id=[14] etc and use that as a custom field for cdr on outbound calls?

• Static file download from browser breaking in varnish but works fine in Apache

  I would at first like to thank everyone at serverfault for this great website and I also come to this site while searching in google for various server related issues and setups. I also have an issue today and so I am posting here and hope that the seniors would help me out. I had setup a website on a dedicated server a few days ago and I used Varnish 3 as the frontend to Apache2 on a Debian Lenny server as the traffic was a bit high. There are several static file downloads of around 10-20 MB in size in the website. The website looked fine in the last few days after I setup. I was checking from a 5mbps + broadband connection and the file downloads were also completed in seconds and working fine. But today I realized that on a slow internet connection the file downloads were breaking off. When I tried to download the files from the website using a browser then it broke off after a minute or so. It kept on happening again and again and so it had nothing to do with the internet connection. The internet connection was around 512 kbps and so it was not dial up level speed too but decent speed where files should easily download though not that fast. Then I thought of trying out with the apache backend port and used the port number to check out if the problem occurs. But then on adding the apache port in the static file download url, the files got downloaded easily and did not break even once. I tried it several times to make sure that it was not a coincidence but every time I was using the apache port in the file download url then it was downloading fine while it was breaking each time with the normal link which was routed through Varnish I suppose. So, it seems Varnish has somehow resulted in the broken file downloads. Could anyone give any idea as to why it is happening and how to fix the problem. For more clarification, take this example: Apache backend set on port 8008, Varnish frontend set on port 80 Now when I download say http://mywebsite.com/directory/filename.extension Then the download breaks off after a minute or so. I cannot be sure it is due to the time or size though and I am just assuming. May be some other reason too. But when I download using: http://mywebsite.com:8008/directory/filename.extension Then the file download does not break at all and it gets download fine. So, it seems that varnish is somehow creating the file download breaking and not apache. Does anybody have any idea as to why it is happening and how can it be fixed. Any help would be highly appreciated.   My first question on here on SF so please forgive me if I manage to bork the post. :) Anyways, I'm using mod_rewrite on one of my machines with a simple rule that redirects to a webapp on another machine. I'm also setting the header 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' on both machines. The problem is that when I hit the rewrite rule, I loose the 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header setting.   I am trying to get Apache Solr to work on Redhat6 and Tomcat6 (using these instructions), but get this error when browsing to the admin section, http://localhost:8080/solr-example/admin: HTTP Status 404 - missing core name in path type Status report message missing core name in path description The requested resource (missing core name in path) is not available. http://localhost:8080/solr-example loads fine, with a link to "Solr Admin." My setup is as follows: tomcat6: /etc/tomcat6 Solr: /app/solr/example I have a solr-example.xml in /etc/tomcat6/Catalina/localhost/, which reads: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Context docBase="/app/solr/example/apache-solr-3.4.0.war" debug="0" crossContext="true"> <Environment name="solr/home" type="java.lang.String" value="/app/solr/example" override="true"/> </Context> I don't see anything in the logs (/var/log/tomcat6) ... only entires in catalina.out are regarding the starting and stopping of tomcat6. My questions are: 1.What else do I need to do to get "Solr Admin" to work under Tomcat? 2.Where are these "cores" supposed to be specified? • Low-cost, Flexible Log Aggregation [closed]

  I'm starting to have quite the collection of Ubuntu VMs that I must manage. I'm starting to investigate Puppet for managing the configuration of all of them, and apticron to let me know what's out of date. But the issue I feel I should deal with sooner than later is log aggregation. I'd like to stay in the free/open source realm for now, seeing that we don't have much budget for something like splunk yet. In addition to syslog, I would like to collect application specific logs (We are running different apps on different machines, from nginx+passenger for rails, to Apache+Tomcat for java, to PHP for expression engine, and mysql/postgresql database server), so that we can analyze the relavent data. For now, I'm just looking to get all the logs one place.

  I'm trying to figure out how to make Squid proxy log to MySQL. I know ACL order is pretty important but I'm not sure if I understand exactly what ACLs are or do, it's difficult to explain, but hopefully you'll see where I'm going with this as you read! Oftentimes, it even places empty rows in to the MySQL table. The file-based logs in /var/log/squid3/access.log are correct but many of the rows in the access logs are missing from the MySQL logs. I can't help but think it's down to the order I'm putting lines in because I want to log everything to MySQL, unauthenticated requests, blocked requests, which category blocked a specific request. The reason I want this in MySQL is because I'm trying to have everything managed via a custom web-based frontend and want to avoid using any shell commands and access to system log files if I can help it. The end result is to make it as easy as possible to maintain without keeping staff waiting on the phone whilst I add a new rule and reload the server! Hopefully someone can help me out here because this is very much a learning experience for me and I'm pretty stumped. Many thanks in advance for any help!

  I have a meteor application running on port 3000. I can successfully connect to the program with www.myurl.com:3000, but would rather connect to it via www.myurl.com/myappname. How do I configure Apache to send port 3000 to www.myurl.com/myapp?

• Installing Tomcat on CentOS 5

  Disclaimer: I am not a server admin, I am a windows user that has lead a life of sinful installation wizards and drag and drop I'm attempting to install Tomcat on CentOS 5 hosted by a MediaTemple dedicated virtual server. I basically followed this guide: Installed jpackage and configured the yum.repo.d jpackage file to set enabled=1 Used yum to install java (yum install java) Downloaded the binary distribution of tomcat with "wget http://archive.apache.org/dist/tomcat/tomcat-6/v6.0.14/bin/apache-tomcat-6.0.14.tar.gz" set JAVA_HOME to point at the jdk location I found with "export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0/" I gunzip/untar the Tomcat files and run ./startup.sh to start the Tomcat server. That is supposed to put the Tomcat server at myserver.com:8080 - however, I just get a could not contact host error when I try to browse to it (or when I try 'curl localhost:8080' from SSH) After I type ./startup.sh, here is the console output: [root@myserver bin]# ./startup.sh Using CATALINA_BASE: /root/apache-tomcat-6.0.14 Using CATALINA_HOME: /root/apache-tomcat-6.0.14 Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /root/apache-tomcat-6.0.14/temp Using JRE_HOME: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0/ [root@myserver bin]# Is there a step I have missed here? • Determining currently-serving files in IIS 7

  serverfault showed me this topic, and I think I want to do the same thing, but in IIS, not Apache. I have a "dashboard" application I'm building and I want it to show what files are currently being served by IIS. They'll mostly all be large files. I believe that the ILogScripting COM Interface would have been one good place to start, but it's not available in IIS 7, and it relies on the underlying IIS logs for its data. And therein, I believe, lies my problem. How do I make IIS put in, essentially, two log entries, one as the request begins, and one when the connection is closed? Also, it looks like IIS doesn't "commit" log entries as they're occuring, in "real-time". There's some kind of delay/batch-job. That will cause a problem for me too. Or do I need to do something in isapi instead?

• 404 Not Found for a PL script that exists!

  Hello all, I make a GET request to a CGI script and I get a 404 error. However, I am 100% sure that script is present and it has permissions: -rwxr-xr-x 1 apache apache 6520 Sep 7 03:01 uu_ini_status_audios.pl The request URL is: http://mysite.com/cgi-bin/uu_ini_status_audios.pl?tmp_sid=893facacc5dc392ad0f4c91e6a9e8d40&rnd_id=0.12266222834382812 The error I get: The requested URL /cgi-bin/uu_ini_status_audios.pl was not found on this server. This use to work for me before, but I think it stopped working after I restarted apache so maybe it means its a configuration I changed?? I checked the error logs for apache and php and nothing useful was found to help me with my problem! I appreciate any help on this!

• when to use squid on server side?

  so i have set up apache serving my php pages. i read about squid but don't understand why/how i should use it to speed up my web server. from what i've learned squid is located in same network (or another) and caches content requested by the web browsers, and then when another web browser wants a same page, squid returns that page cached locally, so it never sends a request to the apache server (faster response time for the client, and reduced load for the server). so it seems that squid is for the client side (web browser), and has nothing to do with the server side (apache). but then some people tell others how they have speeded up apache using squid. so im confused. could squid be used on the server side too? and how will it work?
