  • How can I selectively override a django .count() method

    - by Tom Viner
    I'm using postGresSQL and my main table has about 20,000 rows. Sometimes count() methods can take ages or even timeout. Mod.manager.filter(...).count() I need to selectively override the count() method depending on what filter has been applied. Just having a cache of results would be a great gain but I'd like to be able to say: if filter query is just {'enabled'=True} then return 20,000 without touching the db. Note: I can't prevent the call to .count() as it's inside django's pagination, which always does a count.

  • Most inappropriate function or variable names you have encountered?

    - by Andrioid
    I was reading through my daily doze of RSS when I noticed a link to the python compiler documentation where class names like assList, assName and assTuple exist. While starting names with 'ass' is perfectly acceptable to me, it just sparked this idea that there probably exist much better examples of this. Have you personally used or otherwise encountered any inappropriate function or variable names? Personally I have used 'crap' and 'moo' for temporary purposes, forgot them and at a later point they came too integrated for me to bother with fixing them.

  • Python method to remove iterability

    - by Debilski
    Suppose I have a function which can either take an iterable/iterator or a non-iterable as an argument. Iterability is checked with try: iter(arg). Depending whether the input is an iterable or not, the outcome of the method will be different. Not when I want to pass a non-iterable as iterable input, it is easy to do: I’ll just wrap it with a tuple. What do I do when I want to pass an iterable (a string for example) but want the function to take it as if it’s non-iterable? E.g. make that iter(str) fails.

  • How can I create a generic constructor? (ie. BaseClass.FromXml(<param>)

    - by SofaKng
    I'm not sure how to describe this but I'm trying to create a base class that contains a shared (factory) function called FromXml. I want this function to instantiate an object of the proper type and then fill it via an XmlDocument. For example, let's say I have something like this: Public Class XmlObject Public Shared Function FromXml(ByVal source as XmlDocument) As XmlObject // <need code to create SPECIFIC TYPE of object and return it End Function End Class Public Class CustomObject Inherits XmlObject End Class I'd like to be able to do something like this: Dim myObject As CustomObject = CustomObject.FromXml(source) Is this possible?

  • SVN Feature Branch Method

    - by Seth
    I am getting a SVN server setup and will be using the feature branch method. I plan on having 1+ branches making up a release tag. How do I merge (?) multiple branches into the release tag, while still maintaining diffs and such? I've given an example of our workflow below. Multiple devs pull to local Create feature branch Commit to branch Use branch to build QA (Here is where my question starts) I need to have all the branches for the next build to be put into a build tag to be used to build Production

  • Pattern or recommneded refactoring for method

    - by iKode
    I've written a method that looks like this: public TimeSlotList processTimeSlots (DateTime startDT, DateTime endDT, string bookingType, IList<Booking> normalBookings, GCalBookings GCalBookings, List<DateTime> otherApiBookings) { { ..... common process code ...... while (utcTimeSlotStart < endDT) { if (bookingType == "x") { //process normal bookings using IList<Booking> normalBookings } else if (bookingType == "y") { //process google call bookings using GCalBookings GCalBookings } else if (bookingType == "z" { //process other apibookings using List<DateTime> otherApiBookings } } } So I'm calling this from 3 different places, each time passing a different booking type, and each case passing the bookings I'm interested in processing, as well as 2 empty objects that aren't used for this booking type. I'm not able to get bookings all into the same datatype, which would make this easier and each booking type needs to be processed differently, so I'm not sure how I can improve this. Any ideas?

  • I can't set main Class variable in onCreate Method

    - by natrollus
    Main class has two variables that want to reach another class: public class MyClassA extends Activity { int i = 1; Button b1; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); this.i = 31; this.b1 = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btn1); ~~ } } Second class want to call variables in mainClass object: public class MyclassB implements OnClickListener{ MyClassA mainClass = new MyClassA(); Button btn = mainClass.b1; int n = mainClass.i; public void OnClick(View arg0){ Log.v("btn:",btn); Log.v("int:",n); } //btn returns null; //int returns 1; But onCreate method not set variables.. Why not set main class variables like this.i=31 ?

  • Passing an empty IEnumerable argument to a method

    - by avance70
    I have this method (simplified): void DoSomething(IEnumerable<int> numbers); And I invoke it like this: DoSomething(condition==true?results:new List<int>()); The variable results is formed with a LINQ select condition (IEnumerable). I was wondering is this List<int>() the best way (the fastest?) to pass an empty collection, or is new int[0] better? Or, something else would be faster, a Collection, etc.? In my example null wouldn't be ok.

  • Final enum in Thread's run() method

    - by portoalet
    Hi, Why is the Elvis elvis definition has to be final to be used inside the Thread run() method? Elvis elvis = Elvis.INSTANCE; // ----> should be final Elvis elvis = Elvis.INSTANCE elvis.sing(4); Thread t1 = new Thread( new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { elvis.sing(6); // --------> elvis has to be final to compile } } ); public enum Elvis { INSTANCE(2); Elvis() { this.x = new AtomicInteger(0); } Elvis(int x){ this.x = new AtomicInteger(x); } private AtomicInteger x = new AtomicInteger(0); public int getX() { return x.get(); } public void setX(int x) {this.x = new AtomicInteger(x);} public void sing(int x) { this.x = new AtomicInteger(x); System.out.println("Elvis singing.." + x); } }

  • Ruby not-empty? method

    - by klew
    I want to use expression: !([1,2,3] & [43,5]).empty? => false !([1,2,3] & [3,5]).empty? => true to check if two arrays contains at least one common value. And I wonder if there is a better way of doing it? Maybe something like: ([1,2,3] & [3,5]).non_empty? How to write non_empty? method?

  • mocking static method call to c# library class

    - by Joe
    This seems like an easy enough issue but I can't seem to find the keywords to effect my searches. I'm trying to unit test by mocking out all objects within this method call. I am able to do so to all of my own creations except for this one: public void MyFunc(MyVarClass myVar) { Image picture; ... picture = Image.FromStream(new MemoryStream(myVar.ImageStream)); ... } FromStream is a static call from the Image class (part of c#). So how can I refactor my code to mock this out because I really don't want to provide a image stream to the unit test.

  • What is the right way to pass class parameters to a method

    - by Schneider
    Let's suppose I have three classes A, B and C public class A { public int A1; public string A2; } public class B { public char B1; public double B2; public decimal B3; } public class C { public string DoSomething(A a, B b) { var a1 = a.A1; var b2 = b.B2; var b3 = b.B3; // DoSomething return string.Empty; } } If DoSomething() is using just some fields of the A and B classes, do you prefer to pass the whole object in parameters or create an intermediate class that has just the needed fields by the DoSomething method ?

  • What is the difference between type.__getattribute__ and object.__getattribute__?

  • POST serialized JSON object to a Coldfusion remote method instead of using FORM

    - by zarko.susnjar
    I have javascript object which consists of complex array of structures with nested structures of other javascript objects created dynamicaly on page etc. long story. I can't use form since my vars would be like 2_34_x_y_foo_bar_235423 due to the nature of UI. When I send that stringified object using GET .ajax request to a remote cfc method everything runs ok until JSON becomes 4000+ chars long, and usually it will be longer then that. When I use POST .ajax, I get 302 status and redirection to cfcexplorer. Is there some way I could "attach" object to a form and send my data as form submit, or some way to send JSON object as it is now using ajax call?

  • Updating Activity UI from Different Activity Method?

    - by stormin986
    I have a tab widget where one of the tabs is a chat-type feature. I want to update the chat data at an interval (variable depending on whether the chat tab is active or not). The best approach seemed to be using an AsyncTask in my main TabActivity class, as that would avoid any issues of the chat activity being destroyed while in the background, while an AsyncTask was running. I wanted to ensure that the Activity isn't destroyed and recreated, thus causing my AsyncTask to be unable to modify the actual active Activity's data. However, now that my AsyncTask is in the TabActivity activity, I don't have a direct way to call my Chat's ListAdapter notifyDataSetChanged() from my onPostExecute() method anymore. Is there a way to get a reference to a given Tab's current Activity from the TabHost/TabActivity? Or, alternatively, can I assume my chat activity will never be destroyed as a child activity of the TabActivity activity (well, never destroyed while the TabActivity is active at least), and then just put the AsyncTask in the Chat Activity?

  • Why are these lines being skipped? (java)

    Here's the relevant bit of the source code: class Dice { String name ; int x ; int[] sum ; ... public Dice (String name) { this.name = name ; this.x = 0 ; this.sum = new int[7] ; } ... public static void main (String[] arg) { Dice a1 = new Dice ("a1") ; printValues (a1) ; } public static void printDice (Dice Dice) { System.out.println (Dice.name) ; System.out.println ("value: "+Dice.x) ; printValues (Dice) ; } public static void printValues (Dice Dice) { for (int i = 0; i<Dice.sum.length; i++) System.out.println ("#of "+i+"'s: "+Dice.sum[i]) ; } } Here is the output: #of 0's: 0 #of 1's: 0 #of 2's: 0 #of 3's: 0 #of 4's: 0 #of 5's: 0 #of 6's: 0 Why didn't these two lines execute inside printDice: System.out.println (Dice.name) ; System.out.println ("value: "+Dice.x) ; if they had then i would expect to see "a1" and "Value: 0" printed at the top of the rows of #of's

  • Get SEO friendly URLS with Rails without mehtod_missing?

    - by tesmar
    Hi all, Currently we are using method_missing to catch for calls to SEO friendly actions in our controllers rather than creating actions for every conceivable value for a variable. What we want are URLS like this: /students/BobSmith and NOT /students/show/342 IS there a cleaner solution than method_missing? Thank you!

  • Call AppDelegate Method from Class

    - by golfromeo
    Basically, I need to call a method in my AppDelegate from one of my view controller classes. Currently, I'm doing the following: myAppDelegate *appDelegate = (myAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [appDelegate doMethod]; And including the myAppDelegate.h at the top of the .m file of the class: #import "myAppDelegate.h" When I run it, everything works... But I get the following warning: warning 'myAppDelegate' may not respond to '-doMethod' Is there another way that I should reference the app delegate? Thanks for any help in advance.

  • How do I configure multiple domain names on my IIS server? [closed]

    - by Dillie-O
    We have a few websites that we are running on one instance of IIS that need to be mapped for each of their domain names. For example. Site A has the domain name coolness.com Site B has the domain name 6to8Weeks.com Site C has the domain name PhatTech.com When I look at the "Web Site Identification" section of the IIS configuration window, I notice that I can specify an IP address and port, but if I click the Advanced button, I can also configure the site based on host header values as well. How do I configure each site in IIS? Ideally I would like them to all be able to listen to port 80, so I don't have weird URLs, but I'm not sure if I do this using headers, IP addresses, both, or something else.

  • Member function overloading/template specialization issue

    - by Ferruccio
    I've been trying to call the overloaded table::scan_index(std::string, ...) member function without success. For the sake of clarity, I have stripped out all non-relevant code. I have a class called table which has an overloaded/templated member function named scan_index() in order to handle strings as a special case. class table : boost::noncopyable { public: template <typename T> void scan_index(T val, std::function<bool (uint recno, T val)> callback) { // code } void scan_index(std::string val, std::function<bool (uint recno, std::string val)> callback) { // code } }; Then there is a hitlist class which has a number of templated member functions which call table::scan_index(T, ...) class hitlist { public: template <typename T> void eq(uint fieldno, T value) { table* index_table = db.get_index_table(fieldno); // code index_table->scan_index<T>(value, [&](uint recno, T n)->bool { // code }); } }; And, finally, the code which kicks it all off: hitlist hl; // code hl.eq<std::string>(*fieldno, p1.to_string()); The problem is that instead of calling table::scan_index(std::string, ...), it calls the templated version. I have tried using both overloading (as shown above) and a specialized function template (below), but nothing seems to work. After staring at this code for a few hours, I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Any ideas? template <> void scan_index<std::string>(std::string val, std::function<bool (uint recno, std::string val)> callback) { // code }
