• How to do validation on both client and server side for a service which is a store procedure(return a complex type)

  Hi I am doing Silverlight 4 In my database, I have a store procedure(having two parameters) which returns rows (with extra fields). So i have to make a complex type for those rows on my Models. And Making a service to call that function import store procedure. The RIA will automatically create a matching Entity(to the complex type) and an operation for me. However, I don't know how to validation the parameters of the operation on both client and server side. For example, the parameter must be an integer only (and greater than 10) or datetime only. below is my xaml code. I am using DomainDataSource control and don't know how to validate the two field parameter.It has two TextBox to let the user types in the value of parameters.   I have a web service that is working fine in one environment but not in another. The web service gets document meta data from SharePoint, it running on a server where I cant debug but with logging I confirmed that the method enters and exits successfully. • How do you build a Request-Response service using Asyncore in Python?

  I have a 3rd-party protocol module (SNMP) that is built on top of asyncore. The asyncore interface is used to process response messages. What is the proper technique to design a client that generate the request-side of the protocol, while the asyncore main loop is running. I can think of two options right now: Use the loop,timeout parameters of asyncore.loop() to allow my client program time to send the appropriate request. Create a client asyncore dispatcher that will be executed in the same asyncore processing loop as the receiver. What is the best option? I'm working on the 2nd solution, cause the protocol API does not give me direct access to the asyncore parameters. Please correct me if I've misunderstood the proper technique for utilizing asyncore.

• alternatives to System.Diagnostics.Process.Start when command is too long

  I have some code which is generating a rather long command that is being sent to System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(). The call fails with a Win32Exception, message "The filename or extension is too long". The path to the program itself is not very long, but the parameters passed in are quite long. I am calling the version where an instance of ProcessStartInfo is passed as the parameter, and in this case its the ProcessStartInfo.Arguments .Field that is very long. (other parameters: CreateNoWindow = true, UseShellExecute = false, RedirectStandardError = true). It looks like the exception is coming from a call to win32 function CreateProcess. Does anyone have an idea of another way to start the process?

• How to Obtain Data to Pre-Populate Forms.

  The objective is to have a form reflect user's defined constraints on a search. At first, I relied entirely upon server-side scripting to achieve this; recently I tried to shift the functionality to JavaScript. On the server side, the search parameters are stored in a ColdFusion struct which makes it particularly convenient to have the data JSON'ed and sent to the client. Then it's just a matter of separately iterating over 'checkable' and text fields to reflect the user's search parameters; jQuery proved to be exceptionally effective in simplifying the workload. One observable difference lies in performance. The second method appeared to be somewhat slower and didn't work in IE8. Evidently, the returned JSON'ed struct was seen as an empty object. I'm sure it can be fixed, though before spending any more time with it, I'm curious to hear how others would approach the task. I'd gladly appreciate any suggestions. --Stan

  I have a endpoint mapping a webservice which is used to insert in the dabatabase some keywords: @Transactional(readOnly = false,isolation= Isolation.SERIALIZABLE) public Source saveKW(...). The input is a request. I would like to add an interceptor on the method in order to validate the parameters. this one will read some values from the DB. i would like that this interceptor is EMBED in the transaction declared for the endpoint (or this opposite). In other words, i want them to be in the same transaction. Ideally im looking for something like this with annotation: @Transactional(readOnly = false,isolation= Isolation.SERIALIZABLE) @validator("KeyWordValidaor.class") public Source saveKW(...) where KeyWordValidaor will be class validating the parameters. Have you any idea or short examples to implements this like this way or in a other real way?

  After researching this online, I've only found solutions that don't apply to my problem, so please bear with me. Code snippet: typedef my_map_t<int const *, float> _test; my_map_t::const_iterator not_found = my_map_t::end(); if (_test.find(&iKeyValue) == not_found) { _test[iKeyValue] = 4 + 5; // not the actual code, but here for simplicity } The compiler complains that there's an ambiguous call to my_map_t::end(). This makes sense, because the only difference is the return type. Output: error C2668: 'std::_Tree<_Traits>::end' : ambiguous call to overloaded function Normally you can disambiguate the call by casting the parameters, but end() has no parameters. Any ideas?

• What are the default values for arch and code options when using nvcc?

  When compiling your CUDA code, you have to select for which architecture your code is being generated. nvcc provides two parameters to specify this architecture, basically: arch specifies the virtual arquictecture, which can be compute_10, compute_11, etc. code specifies the real architecture, which can be sm_10, sm_11, etc. So a command like this: nvcc x.cu -arch=compute_13 -code=sm_13 Will generate 'cubin' code for devices with 1.3 compute capability. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Which I would like to know is which are the default values for these two parameters? Which is the default architecture that nvcc uses when no value for arch or code is specified?

  I have a web app with a giant Google Map in it. As users pan and zoom around on the map, points are dynamically loaded through AJAX call which include the viewport bounds (NE and SW corner coordinates) and some other assorted parameters. How do I cache these request for points? The problem is that the parameters are highly variable and (worst) not discrete i.e. floats with a lots of decimal places. I'm using ASP.NET-MVC/C#/LINQ2SQL/SQL-Server but the problem is not tied to that platform.   I have a ListView displays information about an object. When I click a ListView Item, I open an Activity that let's me manipulate parameters of the object held in the adapter. These parameters are updated and stored remotely. When I return to the ListView (via the back button), I want to update the ListView Item that I clicked originally by requesting the parameter values from the remote server. I am currently doing this up updating the entire ListView by clearing it and rebuilding it. How do I reference the ListView Item so that I can update the data for that item only? Thanks, Jason

  I need to implement a web app, but instead of using relational database I need to use different SOAP Web Services as a back-end. An important part of application only calls web services and displays the result. Since Web Services are clearly defined in form of Operation: In parameters and Return Type it seems to me that basic GUI could be easily constructed just like in the case of scaffolding based on Domain Entities. For example in case of SearchProducts web service operation I need to enter search parameters as input, so the search page can be constructed. Operation will return a list of products, so I need a page that will display this list in some kind of table. Is there already some library in grails that let you achieve this. If not, how would you go about creating one?

• Do i *have* to use ObservableCollection in Silverlight WCF client?

  When accessing Silverlight in WCF you get proxies generated with ObservableCollection Thats fine when you're databinding, but a little clumsy when you're just calling a method. For instance the following service method : [OperationContract] public SearchOrdersMsgOut SearchOrders(ShippingStatusType[] shippingStatuses, string[] orderId) { } gets generated with ObservableCollection. What! They're just parameters. Why would I ever want to 'observe' them? I'm fine if I have to do this - but it seems like there should be a way to force simple array structures when I know I'm never databinding - especially on input messages. I'd much rather do this : searchCriteria.PaymentStatus = new [] { PaymentStatusType.PaymentFailed, PaymentStatusType.Unpaid }; than this : searchCriteria.PaymentStatus = new ObservableCollection<PaymentStatusType> { PaymentStatusType.PaymentFailed, PaymentStatusType.Unpaid }; Is there a way? PS. I do actually use a SearchCriteria object for my search criteria - but I simplified for this example wondering if parameters were handled differently.

I'm trying to extend this code but I want to know if it's efficient or not (and how much this influences the speed) to encapsulate all the parameters in a struct like this struct PGTO { int len; double x,y,z ; double *acoefs } and then access the parameters in the function.
