• Getting website data into Adobe InDesign

  I'd like our magazine team to be able to download website data in a file that Adobe InDesign can read. They can then import/open the file, make a few tweaks, and cut out a vast deal of repetitive manual labour (they currently use copy&paste for a few hours). After a brief Google I note that v2 of InDesign can import/export XML so perhaps that is my best bet? Are there any alternatives, and can anyone offer any advice on them? I am using a PC, and the magazine team are on Macs; testing will be tiresome I fear. The data we wish to format is fairly simple - a title followed by a short chunk of text (repeated about 50 times, say). I'll ask about importing images later. Thanks for your help. I will return to Google now, but it would be great if anyone can point me in a more specific direction first!

• Exception declared on ANTLR grammar rule ignored

  I have a tree parser that's doing semantic analysis on the AST generated by my parser. It has a rule declared as follows: transitionDefinition throws WorkflowStateNotFoundException: /* ... */ This compiles just fine and matches the rule syntax at the ANTLR Wiki but my exception is never declared so the Java compiler complains about undeclared exceptions. ./tool/src/main/antlr3/org/antlr/grammar/v3/ANTLRv3.g shows that it's building a tree (but I'm not actually positive if it's the v2 or v3 grammar that ANTLR 3.2 is using): throwsSpec : 'throws' id ( ',' id )* -> ^('throws' id+) ; I know I can make it a runtime exception, but I'd like to use my exception hierarchy. Am I doing something wrong or should that syntax work?

• SharePoint 2010 and VS 2010 - which releases work well?

  I'm having a hard time finding a combination of sharepoint and vs releases that work well together. So far I have tried: SP 4730 & VS RTM SP 4747 & VS RC SP 4763 (Debug RTM ish) & VS RC All of these had issues in one or both products. I'm now reverting to SP 4747 & VS RTM. Has anyone else found a combo that works well? Specifically, I'm creating a service application with some sync framework goodness. I get errors when deploying from vs or running the powershell cmdlets to deploy and provision stuff. Thanks

  I'm supporting a ASP.NET v2.0 app installed on a Windows 2003 SP3 Enterprise on a quad core 8G machine running on .NET 2.0 SP1. before enabling the config, ran "tasklist /m mscorwks.dll" Image Name PID Modules w3wp.exe 7888 mscorwks.dll add under section in web.config ran IISRESET, rebooted server too ran "tasklist /m mscorsvr.dll" INFO: No tasks are running which match the specified criteria. ran "tasklist /m mscorwks.dll" Image Name PID Modules w3wp.exe 6251 mscorwks.dll It seems like gcServer is not taking effect. Are there any additional settings/ configurations necessary to get it working?

But If I have a script that runs for a long time, and I try to open another page to the same server, the second page waits till my first page finishes. This behavior happens to me on Linux and PC. • Does a version control database storage engine exist?

  I was just wondering if a storage engine type existed that allowed you to do version control on row level contents. For instance, if I have a simple table with ID, name, value, and ID is the PK, I could see that row 354 started as (354, "zak", "test")v1 then was updated to be (354, "zak", "this is version 2 of the value")v2 , and could see a change history on the row with something like select history (value) where ID = 354. It's kind of an esoteric thing, but it would beat having to keep writing these separate history tables and functions every time a change is made...

• Using makecert for Development SSL

  Here's my situation: I'm trying to create a SSL certificate that will be installed on all developer's machine's, along with two internal servers (everything is non-production). What do I need to do to create a certificate that can be installed in all of these places? Right now I've got something along these lines, using the makecert application in Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SDK\v2.0\Bin: makecert -r -pe -n "CN=MySite.com Dev" -b 01/01/2000 -e 01/01/2033 -eku 1.3.6.1.5.5.7.3.1 -ss Root -sr localMachine -sky exchange -sp "Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider" -sy 12 mycert.cer However, I'm not sure as to how to place this .cer file on the other computers, and when I install it on my local machine IIS, everytime I visit a page via https:, I get the security prompt (even after I've installed the certificate). Has anyone done this before?

• Make SQL Server 2005 accessible via Internet

  I have an application that runs on a client's server built on a SQL Server 2005 database. We have now developed an ASP.NET v2 application which connects to this database. This web application will be hosted on an ISP's server but needs to access the SQL Server database on the client's server. The client's server has a firewall and so forth so I assume it should be possible to make the SQL Server accessible via the Internet but of course I am woriied about security. Can someone point me to some best practices to achieve this.

• my windows forms application throws filenotfoundexception when run on another machine

  Hi, I have created a windows forms application using vs2008. when i copy the bin folder over to another machine and try to run it the applicaiton throws a filenotfoundexception error. Ive looked at the references files used in the project and each file points to either c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727... c:\Program Files\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.5... c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Visual Basic Power Packs\1.1... i have verified that these directories exist on the other machines that cause the error. the two machines that i have tried it on and that throw there error are Windows XP WITHOUT VS2008 installed and Windows 7 with VS2008 installed I tried on two machine that DID work which are Windows XP with VS2008 and and my development machine Windows 7 with VS2008 Could anyone provide me with some insight on this issue Thanks

• How to get predecessor and successors from an adjacency matrix

  Hi I am am trying to complete an assignment, where it is ok to consult the online community. I have to create a graph class that ultimately can do Breadth First Search and Depth First Search. I have been able to implement those algorithms successfully however another requirement is to be able to get the successors and predecessors and detect if two vertices are either predecessors or successors for each other. I'm having trouble thinking of a way to do this. • fd.seek() IOError: [Errno 22] Invalid argument

  My Python Interpreter (v2.6.5) raises the above error in the following codepart: fd = open("some_filename", "r") fd.seek(-2, os.SEEK_END) #same happens if you exchange the second arg. w/ 2 data=fd.read(2); last call is fd.seek() Traceback (most recent call last): File "bot.py", line 250, in <module> fd.seek(iterator, os.SEEK_END); IOError: [Errno 22] Invalid argument The strange thing with this is that the exception occurs just when executing my entire code, not if only the specific part with the file opening. At the runtime of this part of code, the opened file definitely exists, disk is not full, the variable "iterator" contains a correct value like in the first codeblock. What could be my mistake? • Wordpress + VMware CSS path problem

  I posted a similar question earlier today but this question is clearer. I want to locally develop my Wordpress websites (on my Mac) and test them in Internet Explorer (6,7,8) on Windows XP. I can get the MAMP welcome screen to show in Windows XP, so I know VMWare is doing it's thing. The local URL for my site (on my Mac) is: URL (http://d3creative:8888/) But the local URL under VMware/Internet Explorer is: URL (http://192.168.2.1:8888/d3creative/) This is the only way I can get it to show up, problem is all the CSS styles are referencing the local Mac URL (http://d3creative:8888/) So understandably the CSS isn't showing up. Is there a way to tell Windows that "http://192.168.2.1:8888/d3creative/" should equal "http://d3creative:8888/" I've tried editing the "hosts" file within in Windows XP and I've rebooted after making any changes, but nothing is working. My software: MAMP Pro (v1.8.2) Wordpress (v2.8.6) Windows XP (SP3) Internet Explorer (6, 7, 8) Any help would be much appreciated. Stephen Meehan

• SDK for writing DVD's

  I need to add DVD writing functionality to an application I'm working on. However it needs to be able to write out files that are being grabbed "live" from a camera, over a long period of time. I can't wait until all the files are captured before I start writing them to the DVD, I need to write them out in chunks as I go along. I've looked at IMAPI v2, but the main problems seems to be that you need to point it to all the files you plan to write out to disk before you start the burning process. I know it has to concept of "sessions", which means you can write to the DVD in several parts, before you finally "close" it. But I was wondering if there were any other DVD writing SDK's that allow you to be constantly writing files to a DVD and in particular files that are only in memory. It would be more efficient if I didn't have to write the captured images out to hard before they are burned to DVD. The solution needs to work under .NET on Windows XP and vista

  I can't seem to call this executable correctly in my psake deploy script. If I do this: exec { "$ArchiverOutputDir\NServiceBus.Host.exe /install" } It simply outputs this (and is clearly not calling the executable - just outputting the value of that expression): c:\ReloDotNet2_ServiceEndpoints\Archiver\NServiceBus.Host.exe /install But if I do this: exec { c:\ReloDotNet2_ServiceEndpoints\Archiver\NServiceBus.Host.exe /install } I get the expected output from the executable. How do I correctly call an executable with a variable in the path to the executable in psake? If this is actually a PowerShell issue, please feel free to correct the question to reflect that insight. (like if the table is for handphones, then it will be BRAND, 3G-ENABLED, PRICE, COLOR, WAVELENGTH, etc) how could I design a general schema that allows this? Right now I am planning on doing: table(ID, KEY, VALUE) This allows arbitary number of columns, but for the query, I am using SELECT ID FROM table WHERE (KEY=X1 AND VALUE=V1) AND (KEY=X2 AND VALUE=V2), .. which returns an empty set. Can someone recommend a good solution to this? Note that the number of columns WILL change regularly

• Problem deploying GWT project with a servlet that invoke an EJB

  I have a simple GWT project in Eclipse, it has a servlet that calls an EJB and everything works fine when I run it in hosted mode from Eclipse. MyProject +- src +- JRE System Library +- GWT SDK +- Apache Geronimo v2.2 +- myEJB.jar +- openejb.jar -- war -- +- images -- +- myproject -- +- WEB-INF I'm not sure what is the best way to deploy it, but what I did is create a .war file from the "war" folder of the project then deploy it to the server. Communication between client and server works fine but I get an error when I try to do JNDI look up for the EJB within the servlet. The error I get is something like "JNDI error, cannot find FooManagerRemote" Things works fine in hosted mode so I'm pretty sure that I din't deploy it correctly.

• Run Exchange Management Shell cmdlets from Visual Basic/C#/.NET app

  Goal: Provide a web service using Visual Basic or C# or .NET that interacts with the Exchange Management Shell, sending it commands to run cmdlets, and return the results as XML. (Note that we could use any lanaguage to write the service, but since it is a Windows Box and we have Visual Studio 2008, it seemed like easiest solution would be just use it to create a VB/.NET web service. Indeed, it was quite easy to do so, just point and click.) Problem: How to run an Exchange Management Shell cmdlet from the web service, e.g, Get-DistributionGroupMember "Live Presidents" Seems that we should be able to create a PowerShell script that runs the cmdlet, and be able to call that from the command line, and thus just call it from within the program. Does this sound correct? If so how would I go about this? Thanks. Answer can be language agnostic, but Visual Basic would probably be best since that is what I loaded the test web service up in.

• Apache rewrite to add a directory to REQUEST_URI not working on localhost running wamp.

  I'm running wamp on Vista (Apache v2.2.11) and have projects setup such that http://localhost/projectx is the base directory for projectx. Now, I want that requests for http://localhost/projectx/somepage/extra will rewrite to http://localhost/projectx/PUBLIC/somepage/extra To that end I have a file in C:\wamp\www\projectx\.htacces that is this simple: RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /projectx RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/PUBLIC RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /PUBLIC$1 [L] I can't for the life of me figure out why this doesn't work. The error I'm getting is "The requested URL /PUBLIC was not found on this server". Thanks.
