    In this tutorial, I will demonstrate how to use the MultiHandleSlider extender to select and display both the year and the month in a range. This control eliminates the need to use four DropDownlist controls to hold the range values and the need for a validation control. Then we will use the Column Chart to display number of cars on Sesame Street based on the selected range values. This chart allows the user to drill down into the details for the selected car brands.

  • AJAX spreadsheet editor interfaced to own website

    My website has records that are tables. I would like for my users to be able to edit these records in an easy way. Currently they download a .csv-file, edit it in their favourite spreadsheet, and upload it again. But this often fails (they upload in wrong format or edit fields that they are not supposed to touch). I would therefore like to present the users with an editor directly on the website. So just like you can have WYSIWYG editors in CMSes for text I would like to have it for spreadsheets. One solution would be to interface my website with GoogleDoc and have the users edit the files using GoogleDoc's spreadsheet, and some how get the sheet back when they are done, but I do not know if this is possible at all.

  • Ajaxing a link in a table

    I have a table of results in an ASP.Net MVC page where the last column is an View Details link. I want to have the user click the View Details link and an AJAX method be called to open the results in floating dialog. What I am struggling with is how to link the AJAX call to the link in the results table. I was using a link which embedded the ~/ControllerName/ViewDetails/InstanceId link directly in it. Clicking it took the user to a new page and it is this behaviour I want to replace with an AJAX call and a dialog window. Now I want to attach a jQuery handler to the link to trigger the AJAX call and I can't see how to do this other than write an jQuery handler for each row in the results table. There must be a way to mark the link as an ViewDetails link (using a class?) and attach the jQuery click handler to all instances of type class ViewDetails.

  • Comments show up in database, but only show up on my index page after a refresh.

    Hi, I have AJAX, PHP, jquery, and mySQL in this very simple website I'm trying to make. All there is is a text area that sends data to the database and uses ajax\jquery to display that data onto the index page. For some reason though, I press submit and the data goes to the database, but I have to refresh the page myself to see that data on the page. I'm assuming that the problem has to do with my AJAX JQuery or even some mistake in the index. Also, when I type the text into the text area and press submit, the text remains in the textarea until I refresh the page. Haha, sorry if this is such a noob question.. I'm trying to learn.     I just started working on an application that is build on the Struts2 framework. I am coming from a .Net application with lot of Ajax features like dimming the rest of the site and show dialog box 'please wait while X is happening' ...auto complete and such other ajax features. I searched google for Ajax plugins for Struts2 but did not find anything that looks like it would be worth it. Is my only option to use jquery and its plugins? Is this a pattern that some of you have seen also? Hopefully Java applications are not dead soon because of its inability to cope with ajax...compared to .Net

  • Jquery tabs and forms

    Hi, this may be a weird problem but I’m not sure the best way to go about it.. I am using JQuery ajax tabs. The tab section is dynamic so multiple tabs can be added, as the content is loaded via Ajax the same content can be loaded into different tabs. The other important detail is that i am using the Cache option so the tabs maintain state. Now problems arise when more than one tab has been loaded. It looks like HTML items such as forms and divs now have duplicated id's within the DOM, so Ajax queries can no longer distinguish between the elements.. The result is that any JavaScript/Ajax breaks. Does anyone have any suggestions for way to tackle such a problem? Thanks in advance..

    Hi all, I read some paragraphs in a book saying that it is not possible to do a partial postback for web, even AJAX is employed. Ajax will postback everything and update only ajaxfied controls. However, on pages I made using ajax, I used Fiddler to monitor the transportation. I found when the page initial load, it loaded everything include pictures .... However, when I click a button and do a ajax postback. I can only see the some data were loaded.... Looks like it doesn't need to reload the whole page again. I don't know if what I see is correct? Or the book I read is correct? Thank you guys.

  • Why does jquery leak memory so badly?

    This is kind of a follow-up to a question I posted last week: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2429056/simple-jquery-ajax-call-leaks-memory-in-ie I love the jquery syntax and all of its nice features, but I've been having trouble with a page that automatically updates table cells via ajax calls leaking memory. So I created two simple test pages for experimenting. Both pages do an ajax call every .1 seconds. After each successful ajax call, a counter is incremented and the DOM is updated. The script stops after 1000 cycles. One uses jquery for both the ajax call and to update the DOM. The other uses the Yahoo API for the ajax and does a document.getElementById(...).innerHTML to update the DOM. The jquery version leaks memory badly. Running in drip (on XP Home with IE7), it starts at 9MB and finishes at about 48MB, with memory growing linearly the whole time. If I comment out the line that updates the DOM, it still finishes at 32MB, suggesting that even simple DOM updates leak a significant amount of memory. The non-jquery version starts and finishes at about 9MB, regardless of whether it updates the DOM. Does anyone have a good explanation of what is causing jquery to leak so badly? Am I missing something obvious? Is there a circular reference that I'm not aware of? Or does jquery just have some serious memory issues?   • Adding HTML to the DOM through the client.

    Hi all Just wanted your views on the most efficient way to render content on demand, the reason this has come to light is that I'm maintaining a AA compliant website and we recently added video to it, and one of the techniques to avoid invalidation was to add the HTML for the video to the DOM after the page has loaded - which is fine and working ok. However, I found 2 possible techniques and I would appreciate some views, the one I'm currently using is an AJAX call that returns the HTML, the other technique is a hidden field that contains the HTML - I'm presently using the former. The main reason I'm asking the question is because there may be times when this particular control is also requested via an AJAX call, so I would end up with back-to-back AJAX calls, which seems a bit inefficient to me. I hope this makes sense, are there any better techniques to achieve this? Am I worrying too much over the consecutive AJAX calls? Thanks

    O, so i have a 'live search' ajax search, which currently runs an sql search (via ajax) on each key up. What i would prefer is to: run an sql search after a key has not been pressed for say 800 milliseconds . So i want to have a timer that is started on key up, if the timer reaches 800ms then the ajax is called, if a new keyup event occurs the timer is restarted how would i do this?
