• Is is possible to parse a web page from the client side for a large number of words and if so, how?

  I have a list of keywords, about 25,000 of them. I would like people who add a certain < script tag on their web page to have these keywords transformed into links. What would be the best way to go and achieve this? I have tried the simple javascript approach (an array with lots of elements and regexping/replacing each) and it obviously slows down the browser. I could always process the content server-side if there was a way, from the client, to send the page's content to a cross-domain server script (I'm partial to PHP but it could be anything) but I don't know of any way to do this. Any other working solution is also welcome.

• Compact web server with Lua support?

  Hello, I need to find a very compact, cross-platform web server that can run Lua scripts, ie. either a regular web server like Mongoose that will forward queries to a Lua program in eg. FastCGI, or a web server itself written in Lua which will save the need to provide a separate web server. I recently started learning about Lua so am still in the dark about what is available out there, save for the three I came accross: Barracuda Embedded Web Server http://barracudaserver.com/ba/doc/ Xavante - Lua HTTP 1.1 Web server http://keplerproject.github.com/xavante/ Haserl http://haserl.sourceforge.net/ If someone's already done this recently, what solution would you recommend along with any tutorial/article that would get me started?   ok. i have searched the internet and tried many things but nothing seems to work for me.. i am now getting upset of this datatables. I found 1 way which some ppl on net says works for them and it is giving me strange problem. if you see the image, when i use the function fnGetPosition, it just cross out.. i don't know why other users over net have no issue on it.. All i am trying to get is FormID, if there is any other way please help me get the ID.

• Connect two daemons in python

  What is the best way to connect two daemons in Python? I have daemon A and B. I'd like to receive data generated by B in A's module (maybe bidirectional). Both daemons support plugins, so I'd like to shut communication in plugins. What's the best and cross-platform way to do that? I know few mechanisms from low-level solutions - shared memory (C/C++), linux pipe, sockets (TCP/UDP), etc. and few high-level - queue (JMS, Rabbit), RPC. Both daemons should run on the same host, but obviously better approach is to abstract from connection type. What are typical solutions/libraries in python? I'm looking for an elegant and lightweight solution. I don't need external server, just two processes talking with each other. What should I use in python to do that?

  I'm trying to update my Silverlight 4 UI approx every 1/2 second with new data. I've hooked into a WCF service using net.tcp binding and issuing callbacks from the server. To make sure I get the data from the service as quickly as possible I've started up my proxy on a backround worker inside of my Silverlight App. My question is, how do I get the results from the callback and update the ObservableCollection that is bound to a datagird? I've tried a number of different ways and keep getting the dreaded cross-thread error.

• How to iterate over every property of an object in javascript?

  Is there a way to iterate over every property of an object using the Prototype JavaScript framework? Here's the situation: I am getting an AJAX response in JSON that looks something like this: {foo: 1, bar: 2, barobj: {75: true, 76: false, 85: true}} If I evaluate that json response in to a variable response, I want to be able to iterate over each property in the response.barobj object to see which indexes are true and which are false. Prototype has both Object.keys() and Object.values() but oddly seems to not have a simple Object.each() function! I could take the results of Object.keys() and Object.values() and cross-reference the other as I iterate through one, but that is such a hack that I am sure there is a proper way to do it!

  hello to all, my client wants to play a flash video in their website. just to make sure i understand correctly, i need to: 1. create an FLV file 2. use either some flv player or wrap the flv inside swf questions: 1. the player option - will visitor have to download /install it or is it install only once, in the website itself? any FREE player you can recommend the will ensure cross browser compatibility? swf option: will i need the flash application in order to do the wrapping? will i be able to later use something like flashobject library for the actual embedding? what are the main considerations for choosing between the two options , if indeed these are the options? any help would be highly appreciated. have a nice day and let's pray for a lot of goals today :-)

  This is a question to all web-developers working in the industry more than a few years. Today the server guy at my work told me that his browser didnt render a google font I used on a site properly, so I checked his browser - it was firefox 3.5. (google font Raleway).. This made me think.. I know for some of our sites its a requirement to support IE6 (larger corperate sites) but for the rest (personal sites) should I be looking at developing for all incrments of firefox, chrome, IE and safari???? Does your company still support IE6? My team and I have found that documenting our project (a development platform w/ API) with a wiki is both useful to us and useful to the users. Due to some organizational issues, we're forced to do multi-site development without network connectivity. We've switched to a DVCS (Mercurial) and had great success with this. The wiki documentation proves to be a problem as the central site is setup with MediaWiki. The offsite people have no way to access or edit the wiki. Is there any sort of wiki-style package which doesn't not require a server/database and will be useable in a DVCS environment? Update: Should be open-source and cross-platform

  I can't solve it: You are given 8 integers: A, B, C representing a line on a plane with equation A*x + B*y = C a, b, c representing another line x, y representing a point on a plane The two lines are not parallel therefore divide plane into 4 pieces. Point (x, y) lies inside of one these pieces. Problem: Write a fast algorithm that will find a point with integer coordinates in the same piece as (x,y) that is closest to the cross point of the two given lines. Note: This is not a homework, this is old Euler-type task that I have absolutely no idea how to approach. Update: You can assume that the 8 numbers on input are 32-bit signed integers. But you cannot assume that the solution will be 32 bit.

What I need to do is to perform some operations so that I can compare the two data entries in each 'row'. • Setting a Global Doctype

  Is it possible using PHP (I was thinking may the phpinfo file or a php.ini file) or an .htaccess file to set a doctype for an entire subdirectory? Basically, in a nutshell, I'm using a software that uses XSL templates to output data to a set of HTML files. Modifying the xsl:output tag to include the doctype breaks the template and therefore, does not work. Just adding the doctype in the XSL file, breaks it as well. I need the proper doctypes in place for my CSS to function properly, cross-browser. I realize that I could add the doctype to the HTML files after export but, I'm really striving to automate this process. Any thoughts?

• LINQ to SQL for tables across databases. Or View?

  I have a Message table and a User table. Both are in separate databases. There is a userID in the Message table that is used to join to the User table to find things like userName. How can I create this in LINQ to SQL? I can't seem to do a cross database join. Should I create a View in the database and use that instead? Will that work? What will happen to CRUD against it? E.g. if I delete a message - surely it won't delete the user? I'd imagine it would throw an error. What to do? I can't move the tables into the same database!

• How can I implement "real time" messaging on Google AppEngine?

  I'm creating a web application on Google AppEngine where I want the user to be notified a quickly as possible after certain events occour. The problem is similar to say a chat server in that I need something happening on one connection (someone is writing a message in a chat room) to propagate to a number of other connections (other people in that chat room gets the message). To get speedy updates from the server to the client I'm planning on using long polling with XmlHttpRequest, hoping that AppEngine won't interfere other than possibly restriing the timeout. The real problem however is efficient notification between connections on AppEngine. Is there any support for this type of cross connection notification on AppEngine that does not involve busy-waiting? The only tools I can think of to do this at all is either using the data storage (slow) or memcache (unreliable), and none of them would let me avoid busy-waiting. Note: I know about XMPP support on AppEngine. It's related, but I want a browser based solution, sending messages to the users by XMPP is not an option.

  Hey guys, I'm trying to get a live flash that lives on a webserver to talk to a local java server, that will live on the clients PC. I'm trying to achieve this with a socket connection. (port 6000) Now, at first flash was able to connect, but it just sends <policy-file-request/>. After this nothing happens. Now, some people at Kirupa suggested to send an cross-domain-policy xml as soon as any connection is established from the java side. http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=301625 However, my java server just throws the following: End Exception: java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: recv failed I've already spend a great amount of time on this subject, and was wondering if anyone here knows what to do?

• SDL versus GLFW?

  What are the pros and cons to each? It seems they serve the same purpose. I have a few demos with each and they seem about the same. Performance or cross platform wise, is one better than the other? The only thing I notice is that SDL seems to have more "helper" libraries (fonts, images, mixer, built in sound support, etc). On its site, GLFW claims to be more "OpenGL" focused, but still have to use a GLEW to get any newer OpenGL features (same with SDL). I guess I'm leaning towards using SDL now (more mature, more features, more community). Are there any reasons I've missed why GLFW stands out and I should use it instead of SDL?

• SQL Server pivots? some way to set column names to values within a row

  I am building a system of multiple trackers that are going to use a lot of the same columns so there is a table for the trackers, the tracker columns, then a cross reference for which columns go with which tracker, when a user inserts a tracker row the different column values are stored in multiple rows that share the same record id and store both the value and the name of the particular column. I need to find a way to dynamically change the column name of the value to be the column name that is stored in the same row. i.e. id | value | name ------------------ 23 | red | color 23 | fast | speed needs to look like this. id | color | speed ------------------ 23 | red | fast Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

  I've written an application in C++ that takes a complex binary file format and translates it into human-readable text. Having edited the text you can recompile it back into the binary file format. This would be more useful if the application's internal object model was scriptable. On Windows I'd expose the objects using COM or .Net but I want this to work on Linux. I could embed a scripting language but that's a fair bit of work, and limits users to the scripting language I choose. Ideally, I'm looking for some way of exposing a scriptable DOM from my application that is: Widely support in scripting languages (without writing language-specific wrappers) Cross-platform (but Linux support is most important) In-process (but this isn't essential)

  hello everyone i have a complex query to be written but cannot figure it out here are my tables Sales --one row for each sale made in the system SaleProducts --one row for each line in the invoice (similar to OrderDetails in NW) Deals --a list of possible deals/offers that a sale may be entitled to DealProducts --a list of quantities of products that must be purchased in order to get a deal now im trying to make a query which will tell me for each sale which deals he may get the relevant fields are: Sales: SaleID (PK) SaleProducts: SaleID (FK), ProductID (FK) Deals: DealID (PK) DealProducts: DealID(FK), ProductID(FK), Mandatories (int) for required qty i believe that i should be able to use some sort of cross join or outer join, but it aint working here is one sample (of about 30 things i tried) SELECT DealProducts.DealID, DealProducts.ProductID, DealProducts.Mandatories, viwSaleProductCount.SaleID, viwSaleProductCount.ProductCount FROM DealProducts LEFT OUTER JOIN viwSaleProductCount ON DealProducts.ProductID = viwSaleProductCount.ProductID GROUP BY DealProducts.DealID, DealProducts.ProductID, DealProducts.Mandatories, viwSaleProductCount.SaleID, viwSaleProductCount.ProductCount the problem is that it doesnt show any product deals that r not fullfiled (probably because of the productid join). i need that also sales that dont have the requiremnets show up, then i can filter out any saleid that exists in this query "where AmountBought thank you for your help

  specifically WM6x, winCE5x Now my current understanding from trawling the msdn etal is that the IMAPIAdviseSink::OnNotify callback can be made from any old thread; from (ce)mapi or perhaps even from a third-party service provider. Under WM6x, i cannot seem to coax an in-thread response by invoking HrThisThreadAdviseSink, since while this function is declared in mapiutil.h, a definition appears not to exist (in cemapi.lib or wherever??) ~But i notice that all the OnNotify callbacks i receive derive from windows messages that i am receiving on my thread (=looks to me like an in-thread implementation in any case under cemapi)... So, can anyone confirm that this is infact always the case -or am i just getting lucky right now? ah, i should add that my advise source is IMAPISession::Advise erm i should also say that i might have cross-posted this on the msdn forum -but they're mostly numptys over there,,

  My actual experience comes from PHP and Delphi(Borland) and recently also from Obj-C (iPhone sdk). In the past I also used Java, Python, VB 6 and some other scripting language. I would like to learn C++ because i need a standard tool for write compiled applications with good performance but i have no idea about witch environment i have to choose (Ex: Borland, Microsoft, Eclipse+MinGW, ...). Based those parameters: Most useful more opensource project or work requests Most standard not a proprietary versions Biggest community documentation, manuals, tutorials, forums... Better IDE add-ons, highlight, debug, cross platform, autocomplete... Easy setup A simple setup, to focus on learning the basics Actually I'm on OSX but I can use a VM if needed. • Using CouchDB to serve HTML.

  I'm trying to use CouchDB with HTML/standalone REST architecture. That is, no other app server other than CouchDB and ajax style javascript calling CouchDB. It looks like cross scripting is a problem. I was using Cloudkit/Tokyo Cabinet before and it seems like the needed callback function was screwing it up in the URL. Now I'm trying CouchDB and getting the same problem. Here are my questions: 1) Are these problems because the REST/JSON store like CouchDB or CloudKit is running on a different port from my web page? They're both run locally and called from "localhost". 2) Should I let CouchDB host my page and serve the HTML? 3) How do I do this? The documentation didnt seem so clear... Thanks, Alex
