  • How to handle build rule with unknown targets in OMake when target list generator is built

    - by Michael E
    I have a project which uses OMake for its build system, and I am trying to handle a rather tough corner case. I have some definition files and a tool which can take these definition files and create GraphViz files. There are two problems, though: Each definition file can produce multiple graphs, and the list of graphs it can produce is encoded in the file. My dump tool does have a -list option which lists all the graphs a definition file will produce. This dump tool is built in the source tree. I want this list available in the OMakefile so I can use other rules to convert the DOT files to SVG, and have a phony target depend on all the SVGs (goal: a single build command which builds SVG descriptions of all my graphs). If I only had the first problem, it would be easy - I would run the tool to build a list, and then use that list to build a target which invokes the dumper to output the GraphViz files. However, I am rather stuck on forcing the dump tool to be built before it is needed. If this were make, I would just run make recursively to build the dump tool. OMake does not allow recursive invocation, however, and the build function is only usable from osh. Any suggestions for a good solution to this problem?

  • Finding files with bash and copy to another location and reducing depth of folders

    - by Kevin F
    I'm trying to recover a mates hard drive, there is no structure what so ever so music and images are everywhere but in named folders sometimes 5 folders deep, I've managed to write a one-liner that finds the files and copies them to a mounted drive but it preserves the file structure completely. What I'm after is a bit of code that searches the drive and copies to another location and copies just the parent folder with the mp3/jpg files within and not the complete path. The other issue I have is the music is /folder/folder/folder/Artist/1.mp3..2.mp3..10.mp3 etc etc so I have to preserve the folder 'Artist' to give him any hope of finding his tracks again. What I have working currently: find /media/HP/ -name *.mp3 -fprintf /media/HP/MUSIC/Script.sh 'mkdir -p "/media/HP/MUSIC/%h" \n cp "%h/%f" "/media/HP/MUSIC/%h/"\n' I then run the script.sh and it does all the copying. Many Thanks

  • How do I change my current directory from a python script?

    - by misterloogs
    I'm trying to implement my own version of the 'cd' command that presents the user with a list of hard-coded directories to choose from, and the user has to enter a number corresponding to an entry in the list. The program, named my_cd.py for now, should then effectively 'cd' the user to the chosen directory. Example of how this should work: /some/directory $ my_cd.py 1) ~ 2) /bin/ 3) /usr Enter menu selection, or q to quit: 2 /bin $ Currently, I'm trying to 'cd' using os.chdir('dir'). However, this doesn't work, probably because my_cd.py is kicked off in its own child process. I tried wrapping the call to my_cd.py in a sourced bash script named my_cd.sh: #! /bin/bash function my_cd() { /path/to/my_cd.py } /some/directory $ . my_cd.sh $ my_cd ... shows list of dirs, but doesn't 'cd' in the interactive shell Any ideas on how I can get this to work? Is it possible to change my interactive shell's current directory from a python script?

  • How to develop on a branch in HG

    - by michael
    Hi, I would like to do some experimental work in a hg project. So I would like to create branch, commit to it. And if the experiment works, I can merge it back to main branch. In git, I can do $git branch experimental $git checkout experimental (edit file) $ git commit -a $ git checkout master I read http://stevelosh.com/blog/2009/08/a-guide-to-branching-in-mercurial/, it said ' hg branch feature'. But what is next? I don't follow. I appreciate if you can help. Thank you.

  • How to implement this UI

    - by Michael
    Just curious if the tab bar UI element in screenshots is some built in class or customized. If it is customized, then please give me a hint on what classes I might check to have something like that. The first screenshot is initial tab bar. When I tap on the last icon the tab bar smoothly(animated) resize itself as on second screenshot. If I press the edit button the icons are shaking(as on iPhone home) and I'm able to arrange them. first second

  • The best way to ensure only 1 copy of bash script is running?

    - by depesz
    What is the simplest/best way to ensure only 1 copy of given script is running - assuming it's bash on linux? At the moment I'm doing: ps -C script.name.sh > /dev/null 2>&1 || ./script.name.sh but it has several issues: it puts the check outside of script it doesn't let me run the same script from separate accounts - which I would like sometimes. -C checks only first 14 characters of process name Of course I can write my own pidfile handling, but I sense that there should be some simple way to do it.

  • Resolve bash variable containted in another variable

    - by kogut
    I have code like that: TEXT_TO_FILTER='I would like to replace this $var to proper value' var=variable All I want to get is: TEXT_AFTER_FILTERED="I'd like to replace this variable to proper value" So I did: TEXT_AFTER_FILTERED=`eval echo $TEXT_TO_FILTER` TEXT_AFTER_FILTERED=`eval echo $(eval echo $TEXT_TO_FILTER)` Or even more weirder things, but without any effects. I remember that someday I had similar problem and I did something like that: cat << EOF > tmp.sh echo $TEXT_TO_FILTER EOF chmod +x tmp.sh TEXT_AFTER_FILTERED=`. tmp.sh` But this solution seems to be to much complex. Have any of You heard about easier solution?

  • c# Lambda Expression built with LinqKit does not compile

    - by Frank Michael Kraft
    This lambda does not compile, but I do not understand why. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Linq.Expressions; using LinqKit; namespace ConsoleApplication2 { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { var barModel = new BarModel(); string id = "some"; Console.WriteLine(barModel.subFor(id).ToString()); // output: m => (True AndAlso (m.key == value(ConsoleApplication2.Bar`1+<>c__DisplayClass0[ConsoleApplication2.Model]).id)) Console.ReadKey(); var subworkitems = barModel.list.Where(barModel.subFor(id).Compile()); // Exception {"variable 'm' of type 'ConsoleApplication2.Model' referenced from scope '', but it is not defined"} Console.WriteLine(subworkitems.ToString()); Console.ReadKey(); } } class Bar<TModel> { public Bar(Expression<Func<TModel, string>> foreignKeyExpression) { _foreignKeyExpression = foreignKeyExpression; } private Expression<Func<TModel, string>> _foreignKeyExpression { get; set; } public Expression<Func<TModel, bool>> subFor(string id) { var ex = forTargetId(id); return ex; } public Expression<Func<TModel, bool>> forTargetId(String id) { var fc = _foreignKeyExpression; Expression<Func<TModel, bool>> predicate = m => true; var result = predicate.And(m => fc.Invoke(m) == id).Expand(); return result; } } class Model { public string key; public string value; } class BarModel : Bar<Model> { public List<Model> list; public BarModel() : base(m => m.key) { list = new List<Model>(); } } }

  • Detect Application Shutdown in C# NET?

    - by Michael Pfiffer
    I am writing a small console application (will be ran as a service) that basically starts a Java app when it is running, shuts itself down if the Java app closes, and shuts down the Java app if it closes. I think I have the first two working properly, but I don't know how to detect when the .NET application is shutting down so that I can shutdown the Java app prior to that happening. Google search just returns a bunch of stuff about detecting Windows shutting down. Can anyone tell me how I can handle that part and if the rest looks fine? namespace MinecraftDaemon { class Program { public static void LaunchMinecraft(String file, String memoryValue) { String memParams = "-Xmx" + memoryValue + "M" + " -Xms" + memoryValue + "M "; String args = memParams + "-jar " + file + " nogui"; ProcessStartInfo processInfo = new ProcessStartInfo("java.exe", args); processInfo.CreateNoWindow = true; processInfo.UseShellExecute = false; try { using (Process minecraftProcess = Process.Start(processInfo)) { minecraftProcess.WaitForExit(); } } catch { // Log Error } } static void Main(string[] args) { Arguments CommandLine = new Arguments(args); if (CommandLine["file"] != null && CommandLine["memory"] != null) { // Launch the Application LaunchMinecraft(CommandLine["file"], CommandLine["memory"]); } else { LaunchMinecraft("minecraft_server.jar", "1024"); } } } }

  • Is there any real world reason to use throw ex?

    - by Michael Stum
    In C#, throw ex is almost always wrong, as it resets the stack trace. I just wonder, is there any real world use for this? The only reason I can think of is to hide internals of your closed library, but that's a really weak reason. Apart from that, I've never encountered in the real world. Edit: I do mean throw ex, as in throwing the exact same exception that was caught but with an empty stacktrace, as in doing it exactly wrong. I know that throw ex has to exist as a language construct to allow throwing a different exception (throw new DifferentException("ex as innerException", ex)) and was just wondering if there is ever a situration where a throw ex is not wrong.

  • How to serialize a graph ?

    - by Michael
    This is an interview question: How to serialize a graph ? I saw this answer but I am not sure if this is enough. It looks like a very confusing "open question" and the candidates are probably expected to ask more questions about the requirements: what the nodes and edges are, how they are serialized themselves, is this graph weighted, directed, etc., how many nodes/edges are in the graph.What about the infrastructure ? Is it a plain file system or we should/can use a database ? So, how would you answer this question ?

  • Mac OS X Lion no longer recognizes environment.plist?

    - by Michael Irwin
    Just installed Lion today and my PATH env variable is no longer being set by ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist. Did something change? Can't seem to find any info on that or how to fix. Any ideas? Here's the contents of the PLIST: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>PATH</key> <string>/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/X11/bin:/Users/mdi/bin</string> </dict> </plist>

  • Finding mySQL duplicates, then merging data

    - by Michael Pasqualone
    I have a mySQL database with a tad under 2 million rows. The database is non-interactive, so efficiency isn't key. The (simplified) structure I have is: `id` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment `category` varchar(64) NOT NULL `productListing` varchar(256) NOT NULL Now the problem I would like to solve is, I want to find duplicates on productListing field, merge the data on the category field into a single result - deleting the duplicates. So given the following data: +----+-----------+---------------------------+ | id | category | productListing | +----+-----------+---------------------------+ | 1 | Category1 | productGroup1 | | 2 | Category2 | productGroup1 | | 3 | Category3 | anotherGroup9 | +----+-----------+---------------------------+ What I want to end up is with: +----+----------------------+---------------------------+ | id | category | productListing | +----+----------------------+---------------------------+ | 1 | Category1,Category2 | productGroup1 | | 3 | Category3 | anotherGroup9 | +----+----------------------+---------------------------+ What's the most efficient way to do this either in pure mySQL query or php?

  • Is there a way to wrap some local cache around a URLConnection

    - by Michael Neale
    I am using a URLConnection class - I want to be able to grab a stream to a given URL even if said URL is unavailable (ie cache the last known cope of the content on a URL, to some local file system dir) - now I have written this code a few times (never happy with it) and was wondering if there is something better out there that might be able to do this.

  • JavaScript: function returning NAN

    - by Michael
    I'm working on a codecademy.com lesson with instructions to write the calculateTotal function below. When I click run, it's returning NaN. Anyone know what's wrong with the calculateTotal function as I wrote it that's making it return NaN. Note, I understand that NaN means not a number... // runner times var carlos = [9.6,10.6,11.2,10.3,11.5]; var liu = [10.6,11.2,9.4,12.3,10.1]; var timothy = [12.2,11.8,12.5,10.9,11.1]; // declare your function calculateTotal here var calculateTotal = function(raceTimes){ var totalTime; for(i = 0; i < raceTimes.length; i++){ totalTime += raceTimes[i]; return totalTime; } }; var liuTotal = calculateTotal(liu); console.log(liuTotal);

  • 600 tables in DDBB

    - by Michael
    Hi all, I'm a very young software architect. Now I'm working in a very large and I have to lead a group of developers to rewrite all the mortgage system of the bank. I'm looking at database tables and I realize that there is no any data model, neither documentation. The worst part is that there are about 1000 tables in dev environment, and like 600 in production. I trust more the production environment, but anyway, what can I do? I mean, I can suicide me or something, but is there any good reverse engineering tool, so at least I could get the schema definition with the relations between tables and comments extracted from the fields? Can you advice me something? Thanks in advance.

  • Looking for a good C++/.net

    - by Michael Minerva
    I have recently started to feel that I need to greatly improve my C++ skills especially in the realm of .net. I graduated from a good four year university with a degree in computer science about 9 months ago and I have since been doing full time contract work for a small software company in my local area. Most of my work has been done using Java/lisp/cocoa/XML and before that most of my programming in my senior year was in java/C#. I did a decent amount of C++ in my Sophomore year and in my free time before that but I feel that my general knowledge of C++/.net is very lacking for the opportunities that are now coming my way. Can anyone recommend a good book that could help me get up too speed? I feel I do not need a very basic introduction to C++ but something that covers the fundamentals of .net would be good for me. So basically what I need is a book or books that would be good for a .net novice and a C++ developer who is just beyond novice. Also, a book that would help bein an interview by giving me a conversional understanding of C++ would be great. Thanks a lot!.

  • Non class files with Java Web Start

    - by Michael Munsey
    How do you distribute other files needed by your application that aren't in a jar file? For example, the application at http://www.javabeginner.com/java-swing/java-swing-shuffle-game . The download contains Shuffle.jar, Shuffle.bat, Score.dat, and an images folder with 3 images in it. I can see possibly putting the images directly in Shuffle.jar, but you wouldn't want to put Score.dat in the jar file because it changes. Is there somewhere you could identify this type of file in the jnlp?

  • Bash: Continue script if only one instance is running.

    - by Andrew
    Hello, now this is embarrassing. I'm writing quick script and I can't figure out why this statement don't work. if [ $(pidof -x test.sh | wc -w) -eq 1 ]; then echo Passed; fi I also tried using back-ticks instead of $() but it still wouldn't work. Can you see what is wrong with it? pidof -x test.sh | wc -w returns 1 if I run it inside of script, so I don't see any reason why basically if [ 1 -eq 1 ] wouldn't pass. Thanks a lot!

  • Is there a Java unit-test framework that auto-tests getters and setters?

    - by Michael Easter
    There is a well-known debate in Java (and other communities, I'm sure) whether or not trivial getter/setter methods should be tested. Usually, this is with respect to code coverage. Let's agree that this is an open debate, and not try to answer it here. There have been several blog posts on using Java reflection to auto-test such methods. Does any framework (e.g. jUnit) provide such a feature? e.g. An annotation that says "this test T should auto-test all the getters/setters on class C, because I assert that they are standard". It seems to me that it would add value, and if it were configurable, the 'debate' would be left as an option to the user.
