  • Video Player/Library for Ubuntu with ratings and thumbs

    - by greggannicott
Hi. I've just made the switch to Ubuntu on my main PC and I've been looking for a media player that can: Play all the usual video formats Rate (and ideally, tag) each file Display thumbnails for each file Other than that there isn't much I'm after. Banshee comes close, but doesn't display thumbnails. I've Google'd lots but I'm running out of search terms to try. Does anyone have any suggestions? Cheers!

  • Ubuntu Server on live Internet

    - by vaibhav
I just installed Ubuntu Server 12.04 in an office machine with openSSH, DNS and LAMP Server. I also made the IP static and I can access the server in my office premises easily, but when I try to access my server from my home it is not working. I know I have to make some changes and need to install some firewall (I had just gone through with a couple of posts) but I guess an expert advise will save my time here.

  • Ubuntu 9.10 Virtual Machine does not respond in VMWare Fusion

    - by mgpyone
I've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 Edition in VMWare Fusion; the host is Mac OS X. I installed it successfully and I was even able to use. After shutting it down and reopening it, it no longer works. Here's what I see: I've checked the Virtual Machine settings. It appears as running. I waited for a long time, but there no response yet. Is there anything I can do apart from reinstalling it?

  • Weird cyrillic characters behavior after uploading to Ubuntu production server

    - by maxt3r
When i upload my rails app via SFTP to production server which is running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS all cyrillic characters in my files look like this: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/347209/chars.png As you can see, only parts of words are broken. And because of this rails app doesn't start with syntax error. Also i'm getting errors like ActionView::Template::Error (incompatible character encodings: ASCII-8BIT and UTF-8)

I have an Ubuntu Virtualbox guest with two network interface, eth0 (NAT) and eth1 (bridged). I want to connect to a PPTP VPN using eth1, but I don't know how to specify which interface to use. If i just try: sudo pon myvpn nodetach It fails with: Using interface ppp0 Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/1 Modem hangup Connection terminated. • Ubuntu 9.10 Server (minimal virtual machine) partitioning

    - by John
I am setting up a generic Ubuntu server and am trying to figure out the (best) way to partition the machine. Again, this is just a generic one: The default drive is 20GB. Some guides show: Separate /home, /usr, /var and /tmp partitions Another one suggested something like this: / 4GB /boot 512MB /tmp 1GB /home 5GB /usr 5GB /var 5GB What is the best way to accomplish this?
