  • Safely transfer files from pc with internet connection to lan without allowing any other form of communication

    - by Hugh Quenneville
In the company that I work there are computers that are connected to the Internet and computers that are connected to a Local Area Network. The LAN is considered a "safe zone" and the files that reside there should never be copied/moved to a computer that has Internet Access. So, now, if we want to download an installer for an application for example, we download it in a pc that has Internet Access and then move it using a "secure USB stick" to the Local Area Network. Is there a way to create an "safe, one-way connection" between a computer with Internet access and a computer from the LAN? This practically means that only files from the computer with the Internet access can be copied/moved to the LAN. In addition to that, if you want to transfer files you would have to provide your security credentials for the network (so, that only users with the appropriate access levels will be able to transfer files). Is it possible to create something like that and make it completely safe (or at least "equally safe" with the USB method that we currently use) or the fact that the computer with Internet access is connected with a wire to the LAN is a security risk by itself? NOTE: the LAN setup involves 2 Windows 2003 servers with Active Directory, Web servers and pretty much all the services that you would expect to find in a Windows network.

  • How to minimize the risk of employees spreading critical information? [closed]

    - by Industrial
What's common sense when it comes to minimising the risk of employees spreading critical information to rivalling companies? As of today, it's clear that not even the US government and military can be sure that their data stays safely within their doors. Thereby I understand that my question probably instead should be written as "What is common sense to make it harder for employees to spread business critical information?" If anyone would want to spread information, they will find a way. That's the way life work and always has. If we make the scenario a bit more realistic by narrowing our workforce by assuming we only have regular John Does onboard and not Linux-loving sysadmins , what should be good precautions to at least make it harder for the employees to send business-critical information to the competition? As far as I can tell, there's a few obvious solutions that clearly has both pros and cons: Block services such as Dropbox and similar, preventing anyone to send gigabytes of data through the wire. Ensure that only files below a set size can be sent as email (?) Setup VLANs between departments to make it harder for kleptomaniacs and curious people to snoop around. Plug all removable media units - CD/DVD, Floppy drives and USB Make sure that no configurations to hardware can be made (?) Monitor network traffic for non-linear events (how?) What is realistic to do in a real world? How does big companies handle this? Sure, we can take the former employer to court and sue, but by then the damage has already been caused... Thanks a lot

  • Iptables state tracking

    - by complexgeek
Hi there. I've just taken over administration of a fairly complex firewall ruleset for a firewall box running Fedora Core 12, and there's one thing about it that is puzzling me. When I run nmap on the gateway from outside the network, I see all the expected services, but also sunrpc on port 111. The INPUT chain has DEFAULT DROP set, and there is no rule allowing port 111. As best I can tell (watching the packet counters before/during/after the scan) it's being allowed by the rule: "-m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT" but I don't understand why a brand new TCP connection would be considered RELATED or ESTABLISHED. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. • some HTTPS sites getting blocked on one machine in network

    - by shadowfoxmi
I have a few computers connected to the internet via a router. I have been having some trouble with this one Windows 7 desktop. I can browse most of the sites without any trouble but some sites where the sign in page switches to a secure connection (https), the page does not load. It's not all of the sites though. I'm able to sign into gmail and a few other services that I know use https . The sites I'm having trouble with; yahoo's sign in page and the one that I have been using to test across different systems, http://iforgot.apple.com (which switchs to https) ;this particular site, i can access from other computers on the network and my phone. I only have windows firewall running and AVG. I even tried to stopping windows firewall but it did not help. Everything was fine last week. All I have installed in the past week is VOIP softwares namely skype, ooVoo and windows live messenger. I'm not sure how to find out what's being blocked and why and how to unblock it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • 3 Server, is this a cluster scenario?

    - by HornedBeast
Hello, At the moment I have one Ubuntu server, 9.10, running with a simple Samba share, a mail server, DNS server and DHCP server. Mostly its just there for file sharing and email server. I also have 2 other servers that are exactly the same hardware and spec as the first, which have an rsync set up to retrieve the shared folders and backs them up. However, if the first server goes down, all of our shares disappear along with our mail and the system must be rebuilt. Also I tend to find if people are downloading a large amount from the file server, no-one can access there emails - especially in the morning when everyone is signing in at once. Would it be more beneficial for me to have all 3 servers, all running the same services, doing the same thing with some sort of cluster with load balancing? In short, how can I get the best out of my 3 hardware servers? I'm not really sure where to begin looking, or how to go about such a setup where 3 servers are all identical, but perhaps one acts as the main load balancer?? If someone can point me in the right direction, or if this simply sounds like one of those Enterprise Cloud's that is now a default setup in Ubuntu Server 9.10+, then I'll go down that route. Cheers in advance. Andy

  • VMWare server: virtual machine start-up reaches 95% and hangs

    - by Magsol
This problem cropped up today, after updating my eVGA motherboard's chipset in order to try and fix an unrelated issue. After installing the chipset update (contained SATA and Ethernet drivers), every time I've tried to start my Ubuntu VM, it reaches 95% in the web interface and then just hangs. I'm using VMWare Server 2.0.2, running it within Windows 7 64-bit. I haven't had any issues up until now, and I suspect it has something to do with the chipset update. I've already tried reinstalling VMWare itself, removing the VM from the inventory and re-adding it, and neither has proved successful. I'm also not sure how to kill the VMware server process itself once the start-up hangs; I've only been able to try again by rebooting (as none of the VMWare Services listed kill the server process itself). Any insights? Edit: Uhhh...as an addendum: I have a cron job set up on my Ubuntu VM that runs every 20 minutes. The VM is still listed in the VMWare web interface as at 95% of startup, and the start/stop buttons are still disabled, but the cronjob just ran. I also tested SSH, and I was able to tunnel into the Ubuntu VM as well. Now I'm really confused. Edit #2: I just started a thread on the VMWare Server support forums on this same topic. Hopefully between the two communities, we can come up with an answer: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/251033 Edit #3: In lieu of a specific fix, I've switched over to VirtualBox, and all is working just fine.

  • How to use Ninject with XNA?

    - by Rosarch
I'm having difficulty integrating Ninject with XNA. static class Program { /** * The main entry point for the application. */ static void Main(string[] args) { IKernel kernel = new StandardKernel(NinjectModuleManager.GetModules()); CachedContentLoader content = kernel.Get<CachedContentLoader>(); // stack overflow here MasterEngine game = kernel.Get<MasterEngine>(); game.Run(); } } // constructor for the game public MasterEngine(IKernel kernel) : base(kernel) { this.inputReader = kernel.Get<IInputReader>(); graphicsDeviceManager = kernel.Get<GraphicsDeviceManager>(); Components.Add(kernel.Get<GamerServicesComponent>()); // Tell the loader to look for all files relative to the "Content" directory. • Form contents not showing in email

    - by fmz
    This is a followup to a question I posted yesterday. I thought everything was working fine, but today, I am not getting any results in the email from the drop down field. Here is the form code in question: <label for="purpose"><span class="required">*</span> Purpose</label> <select id="purpose" name="purpose" style="width: 300px; height:35px;"> <option value="" selected="selected">-- Select One --</option> <option value="I am interested in your services">I am interested in your services!</option> <option value="I am interested in a partnership">I am interested in a partnership!</option> <option value="I am interested in a job">I am interested in a job!</option> </select> It is then processed in PHP and should output the selected option to an email, however the Reason for Contact line always comes through with nothing in it. Here is the PHP code: <?php if(!$_POST) exit; $name = $_POST['name']; $company = $_POST['company']; $email = $_POST['email']; $phone = $_POST['phone']; $purpose = $_POST['purpose']; $comments = $_POST['comments']; $verify = $_POST['verify']; if(trim($name) == '') { echo '<div class="error_message">Attention! You must enter your name.</div>'; exit(); } else if(trim($email) == '') { echo '<div class="error_message">Attention! Please enter a valid email address.</div>'; exit(); } else if(trim($phone) == '') { echo '<div class="error_message">Attention!   • Unable to get HTTPS MEX endpoint to work

    - by Rahul
    I have been trying to configure WCF to work with Azure ACS. This WCF configuration has 2 bugs: It does not publish MEX end point. It does not invoke custom behaviour extension. (It just stopped doing that after I made some changes which I can't remember) What could be possibly wrong here? <configuration> <configSections> <section name="microsoft.identityModel" type="Microsoft.IdentityModel.Configuration.MicrosoftIdentityModelSection, Microsoft.IdentityModel, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" /> </configSections> <location path="FederationMetadata"> <system.web> <authorization> <allow users="*" /> </authorization> </system.web> </location> <system.web> <compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.0"> <assemblies> <add assembly="Microsoft.IdentityModel, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" /> </assemblies> </compilation> </system.web> <system.serviceModel> <services> <service name="production" behaviorConfiguration="AccessServiceBehavior"> <endpoint contract="IMetadataExchange" binding="mexHttpsBinding" address="mex" /> <endpoint address="" binding="customBinding" contract="Samples.RoleBasedAccessControl.Service.IService1" bindingConfiguration="serviceBinding" /> </service> </services> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="AccessServiceBehavior"> <federatedServiceHostConfiguration /> <sessionExtension/> <useRequestHeadersForMetadataAddress> <defaultPorts> <add scheme="http" port="8000" /> <add scheme="https" port="8443" /> </defaultPorts> </useRequestHeadersForMetadataAddress> <!-- To avoid disclosing metadata information, set the value below to false and remove the metadata endpoint above before deployment --> <serviceMetadata httpsGetEnabled="true" /> <!-- To receive exception details in faults for debugging purposes, set the value below to true. There is more code involved for checking token validation, but in my opinion at least MEX should get published and CreateBehavior() should get invoked in order for me to proceed further.

  • How to implement Google Maps new version of API v2

    - by bapatla
Hi every one I came to know that google maps has deprecated its previous version API v1 and introduced a new version of google maps API v2. I tried out one example by following some links in google any how i am pretty sure that i got the api key correctly by providing the exact hash key code and managed to get the correct api key. Now i managed to write some code as well but when i tried to execute the code i am getting the errors please help me to solve this here is my code and i even tried the sample codes provided by google play services an i got the same problem this is the sample that i have done by referring some links in google main activity package com.example.apv; import • Rails link to PDF version of show.html.erb

    - by Danny McClelland
Hi Everyone, I have created a pdf version of our rails application using the Prawn plugin, the page in question is part of the Kase model - the link to the kase is /kases/1 and the link to the pdf version is /kases/1.pdf. How can I add a link within the show.html.erb to the PDF file so whichever page is being viewed it updates the URL to the correct case id? <% content_for :header do -%> <%=h @kase.jobno %> | <%=h @kase.casesubject %> <% end -%> <!-- #START SIDEBAR --> <% content_for :sidebar do -%> <% if @kase.avatar.exists? then %> <%= image_tag @kase.avatar.url %> <% else %> <p style="font-size:smaller"> You can upload an icon for this case that will display here. • Entry lvl. COBOL Control Breaks

    - by Kyle Benzle
I'm working in COBOL with a double control break to print a hospital record. The input is one record per line, with, hospital info first, then patient info. There are multiple records per hospital, and multiple services per patient. The idea is, using a double control break, to print one hospital name, then all the patients from that hospital. Then print the patient name just once for all services, like the below. I'm having trouble with my output, and am hoping someone can help me get it in order. I am using AccuCobol to compile experts-exchange does not allow .cob and .dat so the extentions were changed to .txt The files are: the .cob lab5b.cob the input / output: lab5bin.dat, lab5bout.dat The assignment: http://www.cse.ohio-state.edu/~sgomori/314/lab5.html Hospital Number: 001 Hospital Name: Mount Carmel 00001 Griese, Brian Ear Infection 08/24/1999 300.00 Diaper Rash 09/05/1999 25.00 Frontal Labotomy 09/25/1999 25,000.00 Rear Labotomy 09/26/1999 25,000.00 Central Labotomy 09/28/1999 24,999.99 The total amount owed for this patient is: $.......... • Bi-directional WCF Client-Server Communication

    - by Bill
I have been working for weeks on creating a client/server to control a music-server application located on the server-side that is controlled by several client apps located across the LAN. I've been successful in getting the client-side to communicate with the Server, sending commands to operate the music-server, and through the use of callbacks, reply to the clients so that all of the client UI's can be appropriately updated. My problem is however, that I unable to figure-out how to broadcast other messages that need to be sent from the server app to the clients. I was hoping to utilize the callback method; however I have not been able to access it from the server side. Do I need to modify or create another contract that provides for communication from the server to the clients? Does the binding require modification? As I mentioned earlier, I have truly been working on this for weeks (which is beginning to feel like 'years'), and hope to get this last piece of the application working. Would someone please steer me in the right direction? Hi guys, I have a custom component: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <s:Group xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"> <fx:Declarations> </fx:Declarations> <fx:Script> <![CDATA[ [Bindable] public var label:String = "don't know"; [Bindable] public var imageName:String = "x.gif"; ]]> </fx:Script> <s:HGroup paddingLeft="8" paddingTop="8" paddingRight="8" paddingBottom="8"> <mx:Image id="img" source="assets/{imageName}" /> <s:Label text="{label}"/> </s:HGroup> </s:Group> and a custom render, which will be used in my DataGrid: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <s:MXDataGridItemRenderer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" focusEnabled="true" xmlns:components="components.*"> <s:VGroup> <components:Person label="{dataGridListData.label}"> </components:Person> </s:VGroup> </s:MXDataGridItemRenderer> This is my application: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" minWidth="955" minHeight="600" xmlns:services="services.*"> <s:layout> <s:VerticalLayout/> </s:layout> <fx:Script> <![CDATA[ import mx.collections.ArrayCollection; import mx.controls.Alert; import mx.controls.Image; import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent; import mx.utils.ArrayUtil; ]]> </fx:Script> <fx:Declarations> <fx:XMLList id="employees"> <employee> <name>Christina Coenraets</name> <phone>555-219-2270</phone> <email>[email protected]</email> <active>true</active> <image>assets/001.png</image> </employee> <employee> <name>Joanne Wall</name> <phone>555-219-2012</phone> <email>[email protected]</email> <active>true</active> <image>assets/002.png</image> </employee> <employee> <name>Maurice Smith</name> <phone>555-219-2012</phone> <email>[email protected]</email> <active>false</active> <image>assets/003.png</image> </employee> <employee> <name>Mary Jones</name> <phone>555-219-2000</phone> <email>[email protected]</email> <active>true</active> <image>assets/004.png</image> </employee> </fx:XMLList> </fx:Declarations> <s:HGroup> <mx:DataGrid dataProvider="{employees}" width="100%" dropEnabled="true"> <mx:columns> <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Employee Name" dataField="name"/> <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Email" dataField="email"/> <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Image" dataField="image" itemRenderer="renderers.render1"/> </mx:columns> </mx:DataGrid> <s:List dragEnabled="true" dragMoveEnabled="false"> <s:dataProvider> <s:ArrayCollection> <fx:String>aaa</fx:String> <fx:String>bbb</fx:String> <fx:String>ccc</fx:String> <fx:String>ddd</fx:String> </s:ArrayCollection> </s:dataProvider> </s:List> </s:HGroup> </s:Application> Now what I want to do is let the user drag an one or more item from the left List component and drop at the third column of the DataGrid, then using the dragged data to create another <components:Person /> object. So in the final result, maybe the first line contains just one <components:Person /> object at the third column, the second line contains two <components:Person /> object at the third column and so on. Can this be implemented in Flex? How? Great thanks.

  • Flash and Google Maps - Only Last Icon showing

    - by Peter
I have a simple Map and geocoding sample in Flash using CS4 The problem is simple - I can retrieve a short list from the google search api, but when I try to generate the icons on the map using a loop, only the last icon is displayed. (ignore the house icon, it is generated earlier) I feel I am missing something or made a stupid AS3 mistake (like treating it as if it was c#) - or even a stupid wood-for-the-trees mistake. The problem is in the last line of the code. I have added all my code just in case somebody else can find a use for it - lord knows it took me a great while to figure this out :) It runs here (also, if anybody has an idea why the icon is slightly in the wrong place on render, but corrects if you move the map - please let me know) Any help would be great. Thanks. • Binary to Ascii and back again

    - by rross
    I'm trying to interface with a hardware device via the serial port. When I use software like Portmon to see the messages they look like this: 42 21 21 21 21 41 45 21 26 21 29 21 26 59 5F 41 30 21 2B 21 27 42 21 21 21 21 41 47 21 27 21 28 21 27 59 5D 41 32 21 2A 21 28 When I run them thru a hex to ascii converter the commands don't make sense. Are these messages in fact something different than hex? My hope was to see the messages the device is passing and emulate them using c#. What can I do to find out exactly what the messages are?

  • Adding a self-signed certificate to iphone Simulator?

    - by jr
I have a self-signed certificate at the endpoint of my API. I'm trying to test some things using the simulator but am getting "untrusted server certificate". I have tried to use safari on the simulator to download the .crt file, but that doesn't seem to work. Where does iPhone Simulator get its keychain from? How can I add a trusted certificate so my application will work? UPDATE I got it to work by creating a CA and then adding a CA certificate using the iPhone provisioning tool. Then I was able to have a certificate signed by that CA certificate on the API server and the NSConnection just worked. I was not able to get it to work using a self-signed certificate for some reason. I need to re-attempt this using the provisioning software. My real question is how do I get this to work on the simulator? I would think that the simulator uses the keychain of the actual computer.

  • Using FileReadFields with Wonderware

    - by hypoxide
I suppose this is a long shot considering how few Wonderware questions I've seen on here, but anyway... The FileReadFields function in Wonderware is supposed to parse a CSV file into memory tags. There are no debug messages when stuff doesn't work in Wonderware (not my choice of HMI software, that's for sure), so I have no idea why this isn't working: FileReadFields("C:\NASA\Sample.csv", 0, Profile_Setup_Name, 1); Everything is cased correctly and the file is not in-use. I can't figure out how to make it work.

  • What's the best C# recommendation engine or framework?

    - by cDima
Is there anyway to use the examples for the "My Media" Microsoft research project? My Media is a "dynamic personalization and recommendation software framework toolkit" ( http://www.mymediaproject.org ), but out of the box it doesn't provide a sample database (only a LINQ-to-SQL .dbml schema), I don't believe it will be easy to re-create by hand. I was hoping to understand recommendation engines and machine learning with this C#/.Net as a testbed, but without a simple quick start or db it seems impractical. Any suggestions? (I guess it's time to switch to Java with Apache's Mahout, Weka or something similar?)

  • How to install plugins on Eclipse.

    - by Metz
Hi, i know there already are other questions like this, but i could't find anything useful. And it's becoming such a painful issue.. I was trying to install ObjectAid on Eclipse 3.5.1. So, lets google, http://www.objectaid.com shows up. i added it to the repository list, then checked ObjectAid UML Explorer. It says: Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found. Software being installed: ObjectAid Class Diagram 0.9.86 (com.objectaid.uml.feature.group 0.9.86) Missing requirement: ObjectAid Class Diagram 0.9.86 (com.objectaid.uml.feature.group 0.9.86) requires 'org.eclipse.draw2d 0.0.0' I've had a look into /opt/eclipse/plugins and i've found org.eclipse.draw2d_3.5.2.v20091126-1908, but i coudnt figure out how to install it. The operating system is Ubuntu. Thanks for any help.

  • How to ThinApp a Database Application & SQL Server 2005

    - by dandan78
To make it easier for potential clients to try out our software without having to go to the trouble of installing SQL Server, a test database, setting up an ODBC connection and so on, we want to package the whole thing with VMWare ThinApp. Ideally, there'd be a single executable and all the user would have to do is run it. I've been reading up on ThinApp on the VMWare website but am still unsure how to go about doing this. Is the correct approach to put SQL Server and the application in separate packages, reverting to a clean version of the virtual enviroment prior to each packaging? That seems somewhat problematic because the app needs the DBMS to run, as well as an ODBC connection. Like I said, we'd prefer to go with a single package (package = executable?), but two executables are also acceptable if an alternative can't be found. I realize that the same result can probably be achieved by way of a custom SQL Server Express installation but ThinApp looks like a better and more elegant solution.
