• Problems installing GIT on Ubuntu through SSH

  I'm having trouble installing git using this command: sudo apt-get install git-core It's giving me the problems below and I'm not quite sure how to get this to work correctly. I try running sudo apt-get update and after it just gives me problems. If anyone knows how to solve this or a possible way of getting GIT on your machine differently it would be of much help. I've never had a problem with using apt-get. I do not understand how proxy_read_timeout could affect connection at so early stage (before accept). I would expect 200 here. Please explain! proxy_send_timeout - I am not sure if my approach to test proxy_send_timeout is correct - i think i still do not understand this parameter correctly. After all, delay between accept and read does not force proxy_send_timeout. proxy_read_timeout - it seems to be pretty straightforward. Setting delay between read and write does the job. So I guess my assumptions are wrong and probably I do not understand proxy_connect and proxy_send timeouts properly. Can some explain them to me using above test if possible (or modifying if required).

• How to enable gzip HTTP compression on Windows Azure dynamic content

  Hi all, I've been trying unsuccessfully to enable gzip HTTP compression on my Windows Azure hosted WCF Restful service which returns JSON only from GET and POST requests. I have tried so many things that I would have a hard time listing all of them, and I now realise I have been working with conflicting information (regarding old version of azure etc) so think it best to start with a clean slate! I am working with Visual Studio 2008, using the February 2010 tools for Visual Studio. So, according to the following link, HTTP compression has now been enabled .. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff436045.aspx ... and I've used the advice at the following page (the URL compression advice only), but I get no compression. http://blog.smarx.com/posts/iis-compression-in-windows-azure <urlCompression doStaticCompression="true" doDynamicCompression="false" dynamicCompressionBeforeCache="true" /> It doesn't help that I don't know what the difference is between urlCompression and httpCompression. I've tried to find out but to no avail! Could the fact that the tools for Visual Studio were released before the version of Azure which supports compression be a problem? I read somewhere that with the latest tools, you can choose which version of Azure OS you want to use when you publish ... but I don't know if that's true, and if it is, I can't find where to choose. Could I be using a pre-http enabled version? I've also tried blowery http compression module, but no results. Does any one have any up-to-date advice on how to achieve this? i.e. advice that relates to the current version of the Azure OS. Cheers! Steven

  I have deployed the default asp.net mvc 4 web api project to my windows server 2008 RC and am experiensing some issues with calling the web api actions. I'm quite new in the server/iis configuration part. I can open the home page, but the API part doesnt work.   I have just started to work with F5's Big-IP and I have a question about iRules and HTTP redirects. We are moving to offload our SSL from our web servers and onto the F5, our application as it stands enforces a number of pages on our site to only run in HTTPS. I want to move this from the APP and onto the F5 but I have not been able to figure our how, so as an example I would want anyone trying to login in to be forced to use HTTPS e.g. http://"mysite"/login.aspx = https://"mysite"/login.aspx. I have done some google searches that have come up with some good info on this but I have yet to find what I am looking for, if anyone has done this and wishes to share this with me that would be great

I specifically need to setup a public DNS server and would like to know which would be the cheapest datacenter with the minimum configuration of a server to make it work... i'm not looking to create an openDNS like service which handles millions of queries, but what is the minimum i'll need if i wanted to do that ?? • PHP FastCGI HTTP Error 500 on Windows 7

  I've just installed PHP (5.3.1) and MySQL (5.1.44) on my development machine. Then I used the Web Platform Installer to install a copy of Joomla and Drupal. However, when I tried to browse either site application, I get a HTTP Error 500: Module FastCgiModule Notification ExecuteRequestHandler Handler PHP_via_FastCGI Error Code 0x00000000 Requested URL http://localhost:808/drupal/index.php Physical Path D:\Projects\drupal\index.php Logon Method Anonymous Logon User Anonymous PHPInfo.php reports that FastCGI is configured (not sure if that is significant). Sure the fact that PHPInfo.php reports anything is perhaps an indication that PHP itself is working...? I'm struggling to know where to look for a solution... Each application appears to be configure similarly to my other [ASP/ASP.NET] applications.

• Apache2 Virtual Host with ScriptAlias returning 403

  I am trying to reference my libs directory which is a sibling directory to my DocumentRoot. I am using the following ScriptAlias to try to accomplish this. • Remote Desktop, Host: 2008, Client: Windows 7, The remote computer requires Network Level Authentica

  Hi, today I accidently changed one option of Teminal Services, I checked "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication". After that, I can't connect to my server any more. The error says: The remote computer requires Network Level Authentication, which your computer does not support. But my client pcs(both home and at office) are running Windows 7, as far as I know, it shoud support NLA; And in About dialog of Remote Desktop Connection there says "Supports Network Level Authentication". My server is running Windows Server 2008, placed in IDC center; I could connect to it before I change the settings. All other sevices(like IIS, SQL Server) are running normally. For clients, I tried two PCs running Windows 7, and two virtual windows XP machine running in Virtual PC and Virtual Box, all of them gives the same error message. Is there a way I can make things right without go to IDC which is far away? Thanks.

• automysqlbackup not working weirdly on shared host

  I'm on HostGator and I have not-root-level SSH access. I manually setup automysqlbackup in a /home/user/automysqlbackup folder. Created a file called runbackup in the same folder, chmod +x'ed it. The content : /home/user/automysqlbackup/automysqlbackup /home/user/automysqlbackup/myserver.conf Now, when I run ./runbackup from shell, no email is sent. I've setup a daily cron job. The crontab line reads - 24 06 * * * /home/user/automysqlbackup/runbackup When the crontab is run, I do get an email, but, the subject is WARNING: Error Reported - MySQL Backup Log and SQL Files for localhost - 012-03-19_06h24m The email does have an attachment, but it just has the SQL for creating tables. No data in the several rows at all. I don't know what wrong I'm doing and this is freaking me out! I tried writing a custom script as well, using this guide, but mutt doesn't send email, then. The OS used by HostGator is CentOS.

• Changing subnet-mask of class-c network host to 255.255.0.0

  We have a existing class-c network with IP address range 11.22.33.44/24 (just for example). My domain controller has been configured within this subnet. So all servers within this subnet have subnet mask configured to 255.255.255.0. Now we have got a new subnet with IP address 11.22.88.99/24 (note that only last 2 octets have changed). I want all new hosts in this new subnet to join my existing DC. For this we have configured firewall properly so allow this. (so there is no issue with firewall). But initially I was not able to join hosts in new subnet in existing domain. Later I doubted on subnet mask used in domain controller (255.255.255.0) and for testing purpose I changed it to 255.255.0.0, it worked like charm, i was able to join subnet-2 hosts in subnet-1 domain. Now i am wondering whether it will be good practice to change subnet mask of a class-c network to 255.255.0.0? Can any issues arise due to this? Experts please provide your opinion.

  BACKGROUND INFO: My Old Workstation Host: 32bit Ubuntu 9.04 running Sun Virtual Box 3.x hosting Windows-XP VM Guest for Windows Software app development (VS2008, etc) My New Workstation Host: 64bit Windows7 running VMWare Workstation 7 to host 32bit Ubuntu 9.10 for linux project work. NEEDS: I need to get my original Sun-VBox Windows-XP Guest running on my new Windows7 Workstation either imported into VMWare or running on the Windows version of Sun-Virtual box (I have the VM-Guest Backed up and copied to the new computer data drive. PROBLEM: I don't need to run VM's from Both Virtual-Machine Software packages at the same time... but I do need to run some older Virtual-Machines from Sun-Virtualbox on the same 64bit Windows7 host until I can migrate those VM's to VMWare. Before switching from Linux HOST to Windows HOST, I ensured to export the VirtualBox VM to an OVF "appliance" with intentions of importing into VMWare Workstation 7.. but VMWare gives me an error stating it can't import it QUESTION: Will installing Sun Virtual Box bash or interfere with my VMWare installtion?

Is there a way I can have some sort of DNS capability inside my network as well so I can refer to these machines with a name? I think this would be a common problem in most households (running a few computers) and I think there might be some simple solutions out there. This would be something most routers should support out of the box - but why don't they? Can anyone recommend some of these or an easy way to accomplish this?

  A few minutes ago I signed up at a new webhost. I have yet to move my sites over. Upon initial SSH connection, I checked the load and memory usage, they do seem rather higher than I would like: # uptime 12:06:51 up 71 days, 23:23, 1 user, load average: 9.02, 9.49, 9.45 # free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 33014800 31927192 1087608 0 2384812 17729816 -/+ buffers/cache: 11812564 21202236 Swap: 16787916 8584 16779332 Is that a bit to packed? I'm only paying about $5 USD per month, so I don't expect <0.1 loads, but ~10 is worrisome. Is it not? • How do I host multiple independent, secured SharePoint sites (WSS 3.0) without using Active Director

  I have a SharePoint site set up on one of my networks to service Active Directory users. To be clear, this is a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 installation running on Windows Server 2003 Standard. It is not an option to upgrade the server or SharePoint version. Management would like to create several new sites, one for each of a handful of clients. These sites will be used like "dropboxes" or FTP sites so that my company can make large files available to outside contacts, and vice versa. Here are my requirements: I do not want to have to create Active Directory accounts for each external contact. If possible, I would like to store the external usernames and passwords in a database that I can write a small GUI for so that management can handle adding their own external contacts. Each client site must be sandboxed from each other and from my main company SharePoint site. I would like to keep everything running on port 80 and be able to access the sites as either clientname.mycompany.com or www.mycompany.com/clientname If anybody has ever done this I would really appreciate hearing about any lessons you learned and suggestions for how to set this up. • VMWare Fusion - Cannot communicate between Host Mac and Virtual Mac running on same machine [migrated]

  I'm running a "virtual" Mac OS machine on a Mac running VMWare Fusion. The Virtual Mac is setup with Bridged Networking, and has its own separate IP address. The outside world can connect to either the Mac itself or the virtual Mac via their respective IP addresses just fine, this works great! The problem... the Mac itself cannot connect to the virtual Mac's IP address, nor can the virtual Mac connect to the real Mac's IP address. Some things I've read mention something about enabling VMCI, but I have no idea how to do this, or if this is even the correct solution. Any suggestions?

• How to shutdown VMware Fusion virtual machine on host shutdown

  I have a Mac mini running Mavericks server. I installed the Atmail server + webmail vm [a linux centos distribution] in VMware Fusion Professional 6 with the VMware Tools addon. It works flawlessly. I've set it to start on boot and that works very reliably. However I've been looking for a way to also safely and gracefully shut it down whenever OS X shuts down for whatever reason. The Mac is connected to a UPS and configured to perform an automatic shutdown in case the battery starts running low so that's no additional problem. Now the first thing I did was to go into Fusion's prefs and select "Power off the vm" when closing it. However I noticed that for some arcane reason closing the vm window would actually forcibly power off the vm: so then I found this post that showed me how to change the default power options and I managed to have the vm cleanly shutdown when closing its window or quitting Fusion altogether. At this point I was hoping to have solved the problem but as it turns out upon invoking system shutdown OS X doesn't wait for the vm to shutdown and terminates Fusion before it has a chance to do so. At this point I started looking for a way to automate the process of shutting down the guest os via some advanced setting but had no luck in doing so. That's when I found a command to shut the vm down: vmrun and it worked. The only thing left was to find out a way to execute this script on os x shutdown and giving it a little time to power off completely. However this turned out to be a nightmare: I spent hours looking through several ways to do this with Startup Items, rc.shutdown, cron, launchd, etc... but none of them worked the way I had configured them. I have to say that I found very limited information on using launchd for a shutdown script execution and I know it's the latest thing in the OS X world so I'm hoping someone out there among you will be able to help me out with this. I still think this is an extremely basic feature to ask for and I was really surprised to find this little documentation on so many different aspects of this problem. Is Fusion too basic of an application for this? I really hope someone can help. Thank you very much in advance.
