  I want to generate a hash code for a file. Using C# I would do something like this then store the value in a database. byte[] b = File.ReadAllBytes(@"C:\image.jpg"); string hash = ComputeHash(b); Now, if i use say a Java program that implements the same hashing alogorithm (Md5), can i expect the hash values to be the equal to the value generated in C#? What if i execute the java program from different environments, Windows, Linux or Mac?

• Problems with CloseMainWindow() to close a Windows Explorer window

I´m facing a problem when trying to close a Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) window through another application, using the "Process.CloseMainWindow()" method; because it doesn´t close the Explorer window, it tries to close the full Windows (Operative System), by the way, Windows XP. • Why does Java's TreeSet not specify that its type parameter must extend Comparable?

  e.g. The code below throws a ClassCastException when the second Object is added to the TreeSet. Couldn't TreeSet have been written so that the type parameter can only be a Comparable type? i.e. TreeSet would not compile because Object is not Comparable. • How do I access a asp.net session variable from APP_CODE??

  I have seen lots of posts here and elsewhere stating that one can access session variables from app_code. I want to access an already created session. this code errors out because of a null exception. string myFile = HttpContext.Current.Session["UploadedFile"]; this creates a null session variable. System.Web.SessionState.HttpSessionState Session = HttpContext.Current.Session; It looks like I can create a new session variable but not access an already created one. Anyone have any idea what might be giving me problems?

  Hello, Let's say I've a class myClass which has few properties, such as property1, property2, perperty3, etc. Now, I'd like to populate an array with each of those properties so that, I can access each of them through its index. Is there an automatic way of doing so? • How do you do dynamic script evaluation in C#?

  What is the state of dynamic code evaluation in C#? For a very advanced feature of an app I'm working on, I'd like the users to be able to enter a line of C# code that should evaluate to a boolean. Something like: DateTime.Now.Hours > 12 && DateTime.Now.Hours < 14 I want to dynamically eval this string and capture the result as a boolean. I tried Microsoft.JScript.Eval.JScriptEvaluate, and this worked, but it's technically deprecated and it only works with Javascript (not ideal, but workable). Additionally, I'd like to be able to push objects into the script engine so that they can be used in the evaluation. Some resources I find mentioned dynamically compiling assemblies, but this is more overhead than I think I want to deal with. So, what is the state of dynamic script evaluation in C#? Is it possible, or am I out of luck?

  SQL injection that actually runs a SQL command is one thing. But injecting data that doesn't actually run a harmful query but that might tell you something valuable about the database, is that considered SQL injection? Or is it just used as part to construct a valid SQL injection? An example could be set rs = conn.execute("select headline from pressReleases where categoryID = " & cdbl(request("id")) ) Passing this a string that could not be turned into a numeric value would cause Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d' Type mismatch: 'cdbl' which would tell you that the column in question only accepts numeric data and is thus probably of type integer or similar. I seem to find this in a lot of pages discussing SQL injection, but don't really get an answer if this in itself is considered SQL injection. The reason for my question is that I have a scanning tool that report a SQL injection vulnerability and reports a VBScript runtime error '800a000d' as the reason for the finding.

  Hi all, I am new to WCF i am using constructor in my WCF service.svc.cs file....It throws this error when i use the constructor The service type provided could not be loaded as a service because it does not have a default (parameter-less) constructor. To fix the problem, add a default constructor to the type, or pass an instance of the type to the host. When i remove the constructor its working fine....But its compulsory that i have to use constructor... • Strategies for Error Handling in .NET Web Services

  I have a fairly substantial library of web services built in .NET that I use as a data model for our company web sites. In most .NET applications I use the Global ASAX file for profiling, logging, and creating bug reports for all exceptions thrown by the application. Global ASAX isn't available for web services so I'm curious as to what other strategies people have come up with to work around this limitation.   I've got two questions (of which at least one is regarding RTTI in D2010 and dynamic instancing) I was reading what appears to be the foils for a conference talk by Barry Kelly, and found on p. 13 something that looked really interesting: TRTTIConstructor.Invoke. In an adjacent bullet point, on finds "Dynamically construct instances without needing virtual constructors and metaclasses". This seems like a great feature (and exactly what I need, btw)! However, when I look in the D2010 docs (ms-help://embarcadero.rs2010/vcl/Rtti.html), I can't find it. Did it get revoked? What is the minimal way of creating an instance of a class, provided the class name is stored in a string?

• DB2 load partitioned data in parallel

  I have a 10-node DB2 9.5 database, with raw data on each machine (ie node1:/scratch/data/dataset.1 node2:/scratch/data/dataset.2 ... node10:/scratch/data/dataset.10 There is no shared NFS mount - none of my machines could handle all of the datasets combined. each line of a dataset file is a long string of text, column delimited. The first column is the key. I don't know the hash function that DB2 will use, so dataset is not pre-partitioned. Short of renaming all of my files, is there any way to get DB2 to load them all in parallel? I'm trying to do something like load from '/scratch/data/dataset' of del modified by coldel| fastparse messages /dev/null replace into TESTDB.data_table part_file_location '/scratch/data'; but I have no idea how to suggest to db2 that it should look for dataset.1 on the first node, etc.

  Hi, I'm now working on my output of the feeds I'm taking in from some site. What I'm currently doing is Time, and i want it to be displayed in a maybe, little be special way.. like this.. today, 14:12 yesterday, 15:34 27/12, 15:24 i have this in my code = news.entry_published.strftime("%d/%m, %H:%M") That gives me an error saying undefined method `strftime' for "2010-12-30 19:26:00.000000":String And it dosn't do what i want with the days.. Edit: - @date = DateTime.strptime(news.entry_published, "%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S") = @date.strftime("%d/%m, %H:%M") Now works, and gives this output 30/12, 19:26 But i still have to check if it is today, yesterday or just another day. Here are the values in the tables: For CustomerAddress: 1001, El Paso, USA 1002, Paris, France 1003, Essen, Germany For CustomerTransactions: 98, 1001, Phillip 99, 1001, NULL 100, 1001, NULL 101, 1003, Carmen 102, 1003, Carmen 103, 1003, Lola 104, 1003, NULL 105, 1002, NULL I'm trying to join both tables and have the following result set: 1001, El Paso, USA, Phillip 1002, Paris, France, (empty string) 1003, Essen, Germany, Carmen 1003, Essen, Germany, Lola It seems like a simple join but I'm having trouble coming up with the above result set. • strerror_r returns trash when I manually set errno during testing

  During testing I have a mock object which sets errno = ETIMEDOUT; The object I'm testing sees the error and calls strerror_r to get back an error string: if (ret) { if (ret == EAI_SYSTEM) { char err[128]; strerror_r(errno, err, 128); err_string.assign(err); } else { err_string.assign(gai_strerror(ret)); } return ret; } I don't understand why strerror_r is returning trash. I even tried calling strerror_r(ETIMEDOUT, err, 128) directly and still got trash. I must be missing something. It seems I'm getting the gnu version of the function not the posix one, but that shouldn't make any difference in this case.

This is the spirit of what I'm trying to do: public void DoSomething() { // ... • Auto-hide JMenuBar

  When i run the code above the frame's menu bar come up when the mouse moves to the upper part of the window. • JavaScript data formatting/pretty printer

  I'm trying to find a way to 'pretty print' a JavaScript data structure in a human-readable form for debugging. I have a rather big and complicated data structure being stored in JS and I need to write some code to manipulate it. In order to work out what I'm doing and where I'm going wrong, what I really need is to be able to see the data structure in its entirety, and update it whenever I make changes through the UI. All of this stuff I can handle myself, apart from finding a nice way to dump a JavaScript data structure to a human-readable string. JSON would do, but it really needs to be nicely formatted and indented. I'd usually use Firebug's excellent DOM dumping stuff for this, but I really need to be able to see the entire structure at once, which doesn't seem to be possible in Firebug. Any suggestions welcome, thanks in advance.

  Hi all, I am trying to get started with JSON in Python, but it seems that I misunderstand something in the JSON concept. I followed the google api example, which works fine. But when I change the code to a lower level in the JSON response (as shown below, where I try to get access to the location), I get the following error message for code below: Traceback (most recent call last): File "geoCode.py", line 11, in test = json.dumps([s['location'] for s in jsonResponse['results']], indent=3) KeyError: 'location' How can I get access to lower information level in the JSON file in python? Do I have to go to a higher level and search the result string? That seems very weird to me?   I have a DataTable (instance named: TimeTable) whose DefaultView (instance named: TimeTableView) I am trying to use to filter based on a date. Column clock_in contains an ISO8601 formatted string. I would like to select all the rows in this DataTable/DefaultView between 2009-10-08T08:22:02Z and 2009-10-08T20:22:02Z. What would I have to filter on this criteria? I tried: TimeTableView = TimeTable.DefaultView; TimeTableView.RowFilter = "clock_in >= #2009-10-08T08:22:02Z# and #2009-10-08T20:22:02Z#"; This is not working for me. Am I operating on the wrong object or is my filter syntax wrong?

• Best way to parse command line arguments in C#

  When building console applications that take parameters, you can use the arguments passed to Main(string[] args). In the past I've simply indexed/looped that array and done a few regular expressions to extract the values. However, when the commands get more complicated, the parsing can get pretty ugly. More recently, I built the world's simplest Backus-Naur Form parser in C# to parse the arguments. It does the job, but it also feels like overkill. So I'm interested in: Libraries that you use Patterns that you use Assume the commands always adhere to common standards such as answered here.
